MMA March - Never Leave it in the Hands of the Guy Who Calculates the Scorecards

Been prepping for a voice over/singing audition with an agent in Burbank. It's tomorrow and if I do well it means I could get some great opportunities. It's been killing me being deprived of my MMA tho, I've been reading result for like the last 4 cards.

The best of luck to you, man. I hope the hard work pays off.

Thanks brother, it's been the one bright light in life while dealing with the bad back and if it actually pans out i'll be one happy mofo. ;)

What do you think about Lil Couture? I was pretty inpressed with him last night, he looked very solid against probably his toughest opponent yet and considering he's 18 months into his career he could do the Couture name proud. Sure he'll never be randy and he's not amazing but he can get there if he keeps it up.

He's got talent, that's for sure. He is very smooth on the ground and though his striking is still pretty awkward, it's coming along very well. I doubt he'll make huge waves in his career, but he'll always be entertaining. He'll probably be a fringe top 10 guy. Good enough to be a gatekeeper, but never really be a top 5 fighter.

Two things that really stick out to me, one being that he is a wrestler like Randy, but he always goes for the finish. He's constantly improving his position and attempting subs and we need more of that in MMA. Really makes me happy when somebody uses wrestling for more than laying on his opponent. The other thing that has caught my attention is that he isn't using his name to fight guys he isn't ready for. Based on his name, he probably could have fought a high level guy right from the start, but he knew he wasn't ready and has come up on challenger cards to get experience. Great move on his part and shows he has a good head on his shoulders and really wants to improve his skills.

I totally agree, he's definitely got his dad's natural wrestling skills and his striking is a bit akward but better every time he's in there. My favorite thing about his is what you said about how he uses his wrestling to constantly improve position and go for the finish, it's a blast to watch and I dare say part of what will make him great. I read a great interview with him about how people are saying he's getting special treatment because of who his dad is and he shot back about how he is in there busting his ass in the gym every day like everyone else and all he can do is keep fighting and winning.

Dont see how anybody can say he is getting special treatment. Not as if he's in the UFC fighting on the maincard. He's been on Challenger cards since he got signed to SF

If Diaz wants to come back then he will certainly fight at a high level. He is a great fighter and the uncrowned champion of the WW division. He won that fight, fucked up, and if he wants to come back then he can beat anyone in the division, with the possible exception of GSP. No doubt about that at all.

I'm the uncrowned champion of the light heavyweight division, which is to say, I AM NOT THE CHAMPION.

I thought it was strange too, maybe the they he should started even lower, but oh well. He's proven to be worthy and he's got that great Couture adittude. Not a shit talker and doesn't make bold proclamations, just says he's gonna go in and fight to the best of his abilities.

There's always that backyard brawl promotion that had such memorable battles as the battle of the guts, Tank Abbott vs Scott Ferrozzo 2.

That got robbed out of FOTY in my opinion. The amount of heart and perserverance displayed was so inspirational. They are two amazing role models and i couldnt be happier for them and the fight they put on.

Over the past week, Stephan Bonnar has really grown on me. I have a new sense of appreciation and am happy to add him to my list of favorite fighters. We need more Bonnar's in this sport.

Lower than challengers? Good lord, I didn't know such a thing existed.

Titan, NAAFS, MFC, etc....

I think Ryan Couture will have impossibly high standards to live up to, purely because of his last name. I kinda feel bad for him.

What is it that made you a fan?

I get what you're saying but I think he just has to be good, nobody expects him to do what his father did. If he can be a gatekeeper, be a memorable fighter and put on really entertaining fights then he'll be good.

On another note I read a bit on Sean McCorkle that not only made me think he's not as pathetic as I thought after the Struve and Morecraft losses. Just talked about how in those fights he didn't gas and it wasn't the talent level of his opponents but the stage of being in the co main event and the pressure, he's riding 5 straight 1st rnd subs since his release and if he can get focused I'd enjoy seeing him back. When he was actually winning while trash talking I loved the guy, hope he wins at Bellator friday.

Fans that truly know mixed martial arts won't have the expectations with Ryan Couture, but I fear that those expectations will come as the sport becomes more and more mainstream. It takes new fans a while to understand what's going on and the first thing they'll see is Couture and think, 'This guy should be awesome" and when he is just a very solid fighter, it'll be seen as less than impressive.

McCorkle has been fighting cans since leaving the UFC. It's kind of hard to judge where he's at. I saw one of those fights at an NAAFS show and he looked great, but he was fighting a can of the highest extent. He is a likable guy though, and I'd like to see him win too.

I've always thought Bonnar is kind of under-appreciated by an awful lot fans. He's always a game fighter and usually very entertaining. He fits the mid level 205 gatekeeper sport very, very well.

Ugh, get back on your Rascal, Timmy, and fuck off.

Sylvia said he would accept a contract that pays him only $5,000 to show up and another $5,000 to win, which is as low as a UFC contract gets. For that matter, Sylvia said he'd be willing to fight for free.

"If the UFC comes to me with an offer for $5,000 and $5,000 I would take it," Sylvia said. "I know that's very entry level money but I'd have an opportunity to win Knockout of the Night and make $50,000."

...

Sylvia said he currently weighs 295 pounds and would be able to get himself down to the UFC's heavyweight limit of 265 if the UFC gave him that chance. The only obstacle, Sylvia said, is that he doesn't think the UFC wants him.

So why not? Sylvia knows that the UFC is in the business of giving fans the fights the fans want to see, and he said he has reached out to fans through social media to ask him why they're not clamoring to see him in the Octagon again. He said some fans have told him he has a boring style, but he says the biggest problem is that fans don't know enough about him.

"I just want to know why, how come the fans don't like me," he said. "Basically it's because they don't know me."

And the best way for the fans to get to know Sylvia is for the UFC to promote him again. He'll be waiting by the phone.

NOBODY wants to see you fight, Tim, unless it's in a hilarious fight where you'd get KO'ed in 30 seconds by Shane Carwin.

Lol Nog got injured and is out of UFC on Fuel. Thiago Silva will step in against Gustafsson. It should still be a real good fight.

Yeah, except Silva will have all sorts of ring rust. He's never had particularly good cardio, it's likely to be worse than ever in this one.

I think Gustafsson will probably beat him, then get thrust into the upper tier of fighters he really isn't ready for yet.

He deserves a rematch because hes done so much for the UFC by never complaining when hes had to rematch, but they're clogging up the best division in MMA yet again

If BJ deserved a rematch than so does Frankie. Throwing my fandom away, it is kind of messing with Anthony Pettis for the second time though. Hopefully Pettis wins his next fight, and gets his title shot.

Also, Mark Hunt vs. Tim Sylvia. Make it happen, I would be thrilled to see Mark pound on Tim.
