MMA GSD For March - The Michael Bisping Appreciation Station

Fedor vs. Lesnar before the end of the year, no doubt. No way in hell Zuffa doesn't cash that thing in now before both fighters lose anymore luster.
do you think Dana would want to risk Lesnar? It may be a marquee matchup, but the loser of that is done, and Dana doesn't necessarily like Fedor. To risk losing Lesnar to a guy that Dana wouldn't want to begin with wouldn't be smart.

I know he loves Lesnar, but if Lesnar gets handled in his next fight, he'll lose credibility big time. Carwin nearly knocked him out, Velasquez handled him pretty good, and if JDS takes him out, you have to pull the trigger soon.

You guys need to realize that Dana doesn't hate "Fedor." Dana hates M-1 (much like most people) and he hates that he didn't have Fedor. That's what he hates. Dana talked a grip of shit about Kimbo until he had Kimbo. He talked a grip of shit about Shields until he had Shields. Dana talks shit about every fighter that he doesn't have until he gets them. Once he gets them they're the greatest fighter of all time.

For some reason I don't this all that crazy as everyone else seems to be. Shocking? Yes. But I really don't see how it will change anything. UFC is still one company and SF is another. Both have different guys in charge and unless Zuffa merges the two nothing will change what either company is doing.

yes, but is it really good business to keep both companies separate? Maybe in the short term, but eventually (much like WEC) I would think they will have to merge, unless they decide to use Strikeforce like an official Minor League for the UFC, and promote the best guys to the big time, and relegate the lower UFC guys to Strikeforce.

Yes, they owned WEC for years, but they also made WEC different by having different weight divisions then UFC (namely featherweight and bantamweight). How can they make Strikeforce different from UFC to warrant having 2 distinct companies?

True and that is definitely a good argument. I don't see SF staying SF forever. Eventually it will merge into the UFC. I just don't see that happening anytime soon. Also, WEC did have the same weight classes as the UFC for a long time, only near the end of their run did that take away their bigger weight classes and focus more on the smaller guys.

It will be interesting to see what happens from this point on. But, this just won't be a big deal to me until I actually see Nick Diaz, Reem, and Fedor in a UFC octagon. Just one fans view on this.

I will say it is shocking how fast this came about. They did an impressive job keeping this under wraps until now.

Make Strikeforce a place for up and comers and guys trying to get their careers back on track. Basically what it is now. Problem solved.

Strikeforce is dead after the Showtime deal expires anyway. Frank Shamrock must be shitting his pants right now, I love it.

yeah, but there's a big difference between what it currently is and what it could be if an official Minor League company.

Before, UFC doesn't control the Strikeforce roster, and can't pick and choose the best. Now with them all in the same company, they can pick and choose.

Yes, Strikeforce is a top indy company where UFC Castoffs and guys not good enough for UFC can ply their trade, but if it becomes officially a Minor League type deal, then they will all be working for UFC, and can literally fight their way into the company (and conversely fight their way out of the main company).

Ironically, Strikeforce is kinda like WCW was(except maybe they have better matchmaking). Maybe Dana won't screw up Strikeforce like Vince screwed up the Invasion. If UFC makes a cross promotional PPV with Brock Lesnar, GSP, 2 mid-level Strikeforce guys, and someone related to Dana White as Team Strikeforce in a best of 5 series Winner Take All PPV then he screwed it up...... (01 Survivor series joke)

Actually, a cross promotional PPV would be cool.

I love Zuffa, and Dana. I am so fucking happy. Hopefully SF folds, and the UFC gets Gil, Reem, Jacare, and Diaz. It's only a matter of time just like this purchase.

Women's MMA. Dana doesn't want to deal with it and StrikeForce already has an "established" division. That alone would be enough to separate it.

yeah, unless they make Strikeforce a 100% womens company, then it still doesn't make a difference. 1 different division doesn't make enough reason to keep an entire 2nd company. They need to offer a mostly different product (like WEC did with the lower weight-classes), or be an official Minor League for UFC, otherwise they'd be in direct competition with themselves, which won't help either company.

Not necessarily. They'd have a nitsche in StrikeForce which would make them different. Plus, you have to remember that there's still a deal with Showtime in place. If anything, which I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned, Zuffa will increase the regularity and validity of the StrikeForce brand. Now that Zuffa owns it, the Women's division becomes a lot more appealing because, whether people like them or not, Zuffa has shown an ability to promote and stabilize talent within a division. WEC operated very successfully as a promotion when purchase by the UFC. Fighters that won't do well in the UFC (Jacare, Noons, Gurgel, Arlovski, etc), but are still a big draw can help StrikeForce stabilize until Zuffa decides whether to blend or operate them independently for a long term basis. People aren't going to "not watch" StrikeForce simply because they're owned by Zuffa and not blended anymore than they didn't watch WEC. If anything, more people will tune in because Dana will make sure the fights are properly promoted and put out there. StikeForce heavily lacked in this area. Zuffa will fix that problem majorly.

Thats's one of the first things I said about them owning SF, the marketing and promoting well be much better.

There won't be any type of merge for a few years, unless Zuffa/UFC make a deal with Showtime.

There will be no merger until Dana White/Zuffa absolutely juices all he can out of the current Strikeforce that is together. He could use it as like a developmental type of promotion. Guys who have lost three in a row instead of being cut directly, they could drop down into Strikeforce or something along those lines. But man there is nothing to complain about this is just awesome for us, as fans.

I knew Bisping was a big earner in the UFC, but holy shit, number 2?!?

I can't wait for UFC 129. That looks like it will be the best PPV the UFC has ever put on. We already know how good the atmosphere will be with GSP at home.

I figured Bisping would be up there. Surprised with Liddell, and Mirko so high though as well as Serra.

Liddell made 500k for the Franklin fight, his only in 2010. I'm sure it was just a flat rate, no win bonus if he had won. I don't think Mirko is that big of a surprise, he fought 3 times and won twice. I think Mirko gets like 75k to show plus another 75k if he wins, he also had the 85k bonus for SOTN. Serra is a surprise though.

Mirko didn't beat top competition though. He had an embarrassing fight against Mir, and a ugly fight against Barry. Frankie Edgar is 40th, and he beat BJ twice! Jeez that sucks.

It doesn't matter who you fight, or how you look in it, what matters is what your contract is said to pay you. It would be different if they were paid on a fight by fight basis.

I understand that. I however do not understand how he was being paid so much. Again Frankie Edgar made $192,000 for winning two title fights, and Mirko made $400,000+ for three fights with one loss. I don't think he is worth that much to be completely honest, but then again this is the same company paying Tito $250,000 for a loss.

I see where your're coming from. Don't forget though that that's just what's reported and people like Edgar probably got a cut for performance based, like you said beating BJ twice, just stuff under the table, or worked differently.

You also need to realize that Cro-Cop causes people to buy fights. Not so much anymore, but he did and, to a certain extent, still does.

Edgar is still very young in his career. He will eventually start selling fights. Not to mention that I'm pretty he got FOTN bonuses for his last 3 fights and backstage bonuses.

People like Lesnar, GSP, Bisping, etc...make so much because they sell so much. When you see those names on a card, you're like, holy shit, I have to buy this card. Not to mention, I think the UFC does a better job of creating stacked cards with their bigger names.

Bones vs. Shogun is a really really good card.

Then you look at UFC 129 with Shields vs. GSP, it's got Aldo vs. Hominick, Couture vs. Machida, it fucking murders 128 with name draws alone.

GSP vs. Hardy had Mir vs. Carwin and Fitch vs. Saunders.

Look at UFC 112 Anderson vs. Maia, Edgar vs. Penn, Hughes vs. Gracie

It's like they load up certain cards to support their bigger names.

Mac Danzig vs. Donald Cerrone has been added to UFC 131.

Oh man, I can't wait to see Danzig fuck that cunt up.
