MMA GSD For February - Where Vitor Laments His Foot Fetish

I've always had a thing against Kid Yamamoto because I thought his win over Genki Sudo was fucking bullshit.

Have you seen any Genki Sudo yet, Jon? If not, check the video below out. He's the most entertaining, charismatic fighter in MMA history, bar none.

People can talk about his weak chin all they want but there is no denying he is one tough bastard to continually come back from these rough KO's. He definitely has the warriors spirit, he just needs to really readjust his fighting style before he gets seriously hurt.

Well he should've put those weak chin rumors to rest in the Silva fight. He took some good shots from Silva. The last fight was just his fault for leaving his hands down and cornering himself against the cage.

I had heard the name before but had never seen any clips. I loved it. I could definitely become a fan of that guy. To bad the UFC didn't keep him around. It was a video like that that got me into Kid as well. Also, that kneebar on Butterbean at the end was sick.

Not arguing that one bit, man. He fought a stupid fight and paid for it unfortunately. He really did a great job of taking some sick shots from Silva, though I do believe Sergei is a much better striker with more power, so that does play a factor.

The knockouts against Rogers, Fedor, and Sergei are understandable. I mean, I don't care who you are, if you take any of those guys' best shots, you're getting put down, period.

Arlovski though, in the 2nd fight against Sylvia... I mean, that was the weakest punch I've ever seen someone get knocked out by. It's always been that fight why I've thought of him having a glass jaw.

However, you're right... the Big Foot Silva fight showed that it's really not all that weak. It's just Arlovski needs to come to the realization that if he's in there with a powerful striker like Sergei or Rogers, then he should focus on taking the fight to the ground, rather than having a boxing match.

This is the video that got me into Kid. I just love all of his energy, even if he is a bit of a cunt.

Why is it Japenese fighters careers are underwhelming in the US? There's been plenty of Japenese stars with tons of hype but have disappointed when fighting in the UFC and Strikeforce. Is i the cage?

In the past it was due to weight classes. Japanese fighters did not cut weight. They strictly fought at their natural weight (this is why Sexyama hasn't been so successful in the UFC at this point; he should be fighting at Welterweight, without a doubt).

Recently it's been because Japanese fighters aren't used to the lay and pray style of wrestlers in MMA. Just look at Omigawa and Kid's recent fights... both were lost against pure wrestlers. In Japan, you cannot take someone down and lay there; you have to be active. Being active of course though makes it easier for your opponent to scramble back up or look for an opening for a submission attempt. Japanese fighters are used to those rules, so they don't necessarily train takedown defense. In Japan they know they can go full speed and not worry about being taken down and held throughout the entire duration of the fight.

And then you have someone like Shinya Aoki, where yes, it was the cage why he looked so awful. For a strictly BJJ guy like him, a cage is just too big for him to ever get down an awesome wrestler like Gilbert Melendez. The Cage was also the reason why Gomi lost to Florian (at least why he lost the first two rounds).

I have no doubt though that Gomi will bounce back, as will Omigawa and Kid. Also, don't forget about Yushin Okami... I'm not his biggest fan, but he's definitely been the most successful Japanese fighter in the states.

Big fan of Kid, but it killed me to see that fight. He was a good wrestler, but he just looked bad. Hopefully he comes back better than ever. As for Shinya I hope he stays in Japan in a ring because the cage just does not suit him. All we get to see is him butt scoot for 5 rounds in a cage/

Including the reasons jmt mentioned above about the lack of success that Japanese fighters have had stateside, I'd also want to add that the competition IS better here. I know everyone loved Pride and the time when Japan absolutely did have the best fighters in the world, but it's not true anymore. Guys like Gomi, Omigawa and Kid were great against the competition there but the fighters over there just aren't as well rounded. Wrestling obviously has a big part to play in that but being more well rounded DOES mean you are a better fighter. Maybe not in one area (few LW's have the striking power of Gomi) but overall. If Gomi and the rest can get with better camps they will do well.

Just for JMT. I came across this and man does it make me want my Bushido 9 DVD to get here all that much faster.

And I will also leave this here as well...

I have a question guys, can I call myself a real mma fan if I only really follow one weight class? I do like to see the big names fight, but really on the under card if it isn't heavyweight I kind of overlook it. I did amature wrestling in highschool at the heavyweight level and I've done some minor grappling training for heavyweights. But the only devision I can kind of get into anymore is the heavyweight devision. Becuase I can get up and yell hey dumb ass! Get your leg over to pass and get the side mount. Because I know thats what I would do if I was in their shoes.

I've kinda been that way for years now, I get all excited for the heavyweight centered fights. But after that its all kind of wow, I have no clue whats going on. Everything in the lowerweights just seems like different to me. The striking is different and the takedowns to. Idn just maybe its me going on for no reason but idn.

I wouldn't have a problem with that at all. It's kind of like boxing where you find a division you really enjoy and follow it. I wrestled in high school as well and I definitely enjoy watching the smaller guys fight a little more then the bigger guys, minus Light Heavyweights which is probably the best division in the UFC currently.

Haha... dude, I've had that video favorited on Youtube for like 4 years now, lol. Thanks for the thought, though.

Classic gif. Here's another epic one from that same segment:

Of course you can, man.

Fact is, most Americans only care about Heavyweights. It's why Brock Lesnar is the biggest draw in the sport, and why boxing isn't popular when there's not a dominate Heavyweight figure around. Most americans just have a problem believing in a bad ass that's smaller than regular man height/size. Of course, we're slowly progressing away from that (Manny Pacquiao is proof of that), but that standard is still there with most Americans, I believe.

Thanks guys, I have no problem thinking that smaller men can fight better than me or are better than the heavyweights. I just can never get into the fights, I wrestled and studied heavyweight wrestling videos so much that the moves just seem natural to me. But what I can never get into is the smaller men kind of do it different and I know in the division I was in that the moves they are doing are basically the same thing. I just can't you know get in it when I don't know what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about when a guy goes for a single leg in heavyweight, a weight and height factor is allways an issue. Because for the most part in most devisions the guys are right around the same weight and height, most of the time not all the time. Well if your a smaller heavyweight you could do a knee buckle with a single leg, or a push and go right to the ground and get guard.

I don't really know maybe I'm just overthinking it. I just know the heavyweight moves and stuff and how to pull them off better than I know the lighter weights. I know the moves for the most part are the same. But with the smaller weights so many different fighters have a different way of pulling off that move.

Well you said you were a Heavyweight in wrestling so of course your going to have a better grasp on what they are doing because you have experience with it. Just like I am a fan of the speed of the 135, 145, and 155 pounders because I had to use a lot of speed and I faced guys with a lot of speed. What you're saying makes sense man, at least to me.

Jesus Christ, REALLY M-1?

First there's Vladimir Voronov, and his theory on what happened, and it's a doozy: psychological technology and hypnosis.

"We believe that forbidden psychological technology was used," Voronov said in an interview with Lifesports.ru (translated by Fighter's Only). "It seems to us that not everything was right, and that certain technologies were used. Not ones that could be seen by the naked eye but psychological technologies that worked on both fighters at a distance.

"That is why during the fight Fedor was just not like himself. It seemed very strange behaviour from Fedor. He stepped into the ring and did everything exactly the opposite of what we practiced before the fight. We were all shocked! Fedor had never previously done such a thing.

"Now nearly a week passes, everything settles, and we understand why all this happened."

They didn't leave it at psychological technology either, as Lifesports consulted a teacher from "Russia's largest school of hypnosis."

"The human mind has enormous power of suggestion, it explains all sorts of curses, evil eye, etc” Nicholas Zakharkin said.

"Therefore, if a well-trained specialist is in the area of visual contact with Emelianenko, then he could convince him of anything and have any effect. If the hypnotist was set up and sat at a distance where he could meet eyes, he could make hypnotic influence without any big problems."

M-1 is such a joke. I just sit here and laugh at them. Also nothing beats the Overeem gif where he kicks the little girl whose holding the pad and she goes flying.
