MMA GSD For October: Where Michael Bisping Still Makes "Toilet Store" Jokes.

Speaking of Chael, idk if you guys know they show Gold Rush Alaska on Discovery Channel, but i'm friends with the main man Todd Hoffman. Todd lives in Oregon and wouldn't you know it, he's buddies with Matt Lindland. We've talked about Matt and MMA a few times and he has offered to hook me up, I drive up to Oregon and I get hooked up with a month of free training with Matt, Chael and Yushin at Team Quest and I stay at Todd's while i'm up there. I am very very happy right now :)

That's good stuff JW. Always take training outside of your own gym, as it is always good to expand your knowledge as a fellow mixed martial artist. Also, with Chael, Yushin, and Mat, you will learn new things in all of the 3 main points (striking, wrestling, ground), as that is a great mix of guys to work with. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't/doesn't Chuck Liddell train there too, or am I thinking of The Pit?

To my knowledge, Liddell has never left The Pit and has never trained at Quest. Then again, I haven't read his book in a few years so I may be wrong.

I know Hendo trains at Quest, but I doubt he's with Lindland.

Nobody talking about the Bones/Machida fight on here. What's everybody's opinion?

Yeah Dan and Matt did run Team Quest together(Dan in Temecula,CA and Matt in Oregon) but they kinda hate each other and are fighting over team quest rights. Cool that I get to train where the likes of Couture,Henderson and Tanner spent so many hours getting ready for battle.

As for Machida-Jones it's very interesting, very interesting indeed. Just based on skill I'd go Machida but I don't know how he's gonna deal with Jon's reach and size.....I'll stick with Lyoto because I like him but don't be surprised if Jones does to him what he did go Shogun if he can cut him off or get him up against the cage.

Quick question for everyone here...

Which fight would you rather see from Nate Diaz next: vs. Joe Lauzon or vs. Anthony Pettis?

Also, I just read it someplace else, but how fucking awesome would it be if Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen went down on Fox?

Diaz vs. Lauzon would be great.

Silva vs. Sonnen free on fox would be incredible. I'm not missing that fight, but not having to pay 50$ for that would be great. Also, Sonnen's expected comments would be more publicized IMO due to it being FOX.

I also couldn't stand that Jose Aldo was talking about having Sonnen fighting Anderson in Brazil. The guy is an incredible fighter, but I really don't like him as a person (he's better than Florian though). Instead of saying something like "how great would it be to see the two fight in front of 100,000 Brazilian fans," why wouldn't he say whats really on his mind like "Anderson can get the home field advantage and take out Chael easily," or "just so I could see Sonnen getting shot." Really got angry when the media asked him so many questions.

Nate vs Pettis. Just my opinion although both fights are great. Cock, i'm not even going to comment on that post about Aldo...

Without a doubt I'd prefer to see Nate vs Joe, both would be good but I think the styles of these two make for a definite Fight Of The Night and maybe a finish bonus. Let go Diaz, that is alll.

Sonnen vs Silva at the Fox event? Sounds pretty bitchin, the way Chael hyped up the fight for then was getting me pretty pumped for yet another amazing Superbowl/UFC weekend but I want to see this fight asap and it would be an excellent match on the card that really makes UFC mainstream, fingers crossed so lets hope it happens.

By the way, I doubt that anyone aside from me cares about this, but Patrick Cote picked up his 3rd consecutive win since being released from the UFC after his loss to Tom Lawlor. Cote scored a first round TKO over fellow UFC vet Crafton Wallace, The Predator has had ups and downs in his career but he's still young and he's got one of the best chins in the sport and a cannon of a right hand to go along with it, hope to see him back again soon.

Always liked Cote. Kid had great heart, and was a great fighter. Was actually pretty sad seeing Silva take him apart. Hopefully the UFC re-signs him, as he does seem to be on a roll lately.

The video was GREAT.

On an unrelated note, and I'm about to prove JMT right, I've really grown to like Mayhem since TUF started. He's an excellent coach, and genuinely wants his guys to succeed. One of the best coaches.

Meanwhile, Bisping continues to be a huge douche and his "GET THE FOOK UP" coaching advice is pretty terrible.

Difference is, Tito was possibly the best coach in the history of TUF and Bitchping is 0-4. I'm loving me some Mayhem this season despite my previous disdain for him.

More than a decade has passed since Rickson Gracie competed in mixed martial arts, but the 52-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt still holds a prominent place in the minds and hearts of most hardcore fans. Gracie last fought at an event in Japan in May 2000, when he choked Pancrase co-founder Masakatsu Funaki unconscious with a rear-naked choke in a little less than 13 minutes. He walked away from the sport with a perfect 11-0 mark, with all 11 victories by way of submission.

In this exclusive interview with Sherdog.com, Gracie discussed the impact of UFC 134 on Brazil, his recent participation in the Bintang Black Belt Challenge -- a surfing championship for jiu-jitsu black belts -- and, perhaps most importantly, the state of the ground game in modern-day MMA.

Sherdog.com: Do you believe jiu-jitsu fighters are having trouble getting the fight on the ground in today’s MMA?
Gracie: I see it as a new race of fighter developing, something that’s been invented. There are no more style matchups. Now, everyone knows everything. It’s about the strengths of the individual. The time of fights was shortened, the weights were equalized and technology was incorporated into training. There is no more romanticism in seeing a smaller guy fight a bigger guy for two hours. Thinking of that, I believe jiu-jitsu has lost the capacity to be put into practice in today’s MMA, because it’s an art you have to wait for the right moment with. Now, MMA is a sport for the better-prepared fighter, the guy who can absorb more punches and still win. There’s still an admiration for the art by those who practice it, but there’s a decline in how it’s working in MMA. My motivation is completely focused on the concept. That’s where I believe I can make a difference: in making the shy kid feel normal, in making the weak woman believe she’s strong. I want people to have a sense of self-defense and a concept of the invisible power. That’s where jiu-jitsu will achieve its eternity.

Sherdog.com: You have taken part in many legendary events. Do you still have the desire to compete again?
Gracie: There’s always that longing to fight, but I’m motivated by everything I’ve done so far. Nowadays, I have responsibilities that motivate me more than trying to live something I’ve already lived. Today, my focus is on remembering the people of jiu-jitsu and the philosophy that comes with the practice. It’s not directed at competition but at self-defense, self-confidence, discipline and emotional control. The values you learn are priceless.

Sherdog.com: There is no one better than you to describe the importance of UFC 134. What was it like to see 15,000 people supporting Brazilian fighters?
Gracie: It was very nice -- a Brazilian night. Guys fought really well. [Antonio Rodrigo] “Minotauro” [Nogueira], Anderson [Silva], [Mauricio] “Shogun” [Rua] ... everyone had a good role. And to feel the emotion that you only can feel in Brazil, where you have this human warmth, was great. I enjoyed taking part in a night like that.

Sherdog.com: Among the Brazilian fighters who competed at UFC 134, who did you like best?
Gracie: The Brazilians had a great night. They were pushed by the crowd and were well-prepared. I loved Minotauro. He’s a lion of a veteran. He was well-prepared physically and mentally, and he shut a lot of people’s mouths. Anderson showed his skills, which was no surprise. I expected that. Thiago Tavares was great, as was [Rousimar] “Toquinho” [Palhares]. Everyone showed the desire to win, and I congratulate them.

Sherdog.com: The Americans invited you to sit on the first row at the HSBC Arena. Some people were worried that they would tout MMA as their creation. How important was it for you to see your father, Helio Gracie, recognized, along with yourself and your brothers, Rorion Gracie and Royce Gracie?
Gracie: It was fair recognition. They are developing a great work with marketing, but everything is our creation. It’s not only about Brazilian fighters but about the concept and the Brazilian spirit behind it. They’re not re-inventing the wheel, and we have the resources needed to make the same kind of show as they have. We have human material and an interested audience, and now we also have the media vehicles needed to integrate them. We can have a Brazilian UFC, which is more important than recognizing the actions of others.

Sherdog.com: How was the surfing championship?
Gracie: I lost this time, but it was very cool to see the fellowship and to be with my friends on the ocean. It’s incredible to be in such a beautiful place like Prainha surfing with friends. There are no winners or losers there.

Great interview with my idol, Rickson Gracie. Describes how he feels BJJ fits into today's fighting styles and talks about UFC 134. My dream is to meet him one day.

Vinny Magalhaes won via Rediculously awesome head kick last night. Really like the guy. Hopefully he heads back to the UFC.
