WWE RAW LD 7/25/2011 - The King is Dead, Long Live the King

In storyline terms, why would Punk come back if he didn't have a contract? The WWE already has their new champion, they don't need him, so why put him on their show (again, in storyline terms) if they didn't have him under contract?

In storyline terms, he has to be under contract, otherwise things don't make sense.

to crown the real champion? Punk says he is the rightful champ, and has a point + the "real" WWE title.

Punk wants to stick it in their craw one more time that he is the best, and then leave forever?

perfect sense. very old school, as well.

Punk returning during the Rumble and winning it would rule. If he had to leave for a bit, that's how I want him to return.

I did think it was a bit quick to bring Punk back. I mean, it was 8 days ago. It looks like it'll be at Summerslam and I can see what their thinking is, but I'm not sure I agree with it.

you meeeaaannn take him out now at the height of his blazing hot heat, and have him return out of nowere to an amazing defeaning reaction>

As has been repeated, how do you keep this going? by taking him away, and providing a giant spike for WM.

He will probably be over ten times when he comes back. I mean, I can show countless examples of it happening. Hey there, Triple H from 2002 and 2007, how are you dude?
Punk's had like a month of this kind of momentum. Hardly comparable. This early in the game, you wanna work towards maintaining that heat at all costs rather than playing silly games to build towards a show that's going to draw no matter what.

What the FUCK is the Keystone Light guy doing back on my screen...what is going on man.

and he was, and they promised to utilize him better. So methinks he has commited to re-signing after some time off.
Where the heat he's gained of the course of two measly months could fade away, giving the gun shy decision makers justification for marginalizing him upon his return?

No. No. Punk's too smart for that.

By god....it was literally a commercial, complete with "don't drink and drive" warnings on the bottom of the screen and all. Crazy. When did WWE become Keystone Light's bitch?

I thought the segment was pretty amusing. At the very least we got to see Eve look sexy as hell, and I thought Keith Stone whipping up a tattoo in seconds flat was hilarious.

JIM ROSS! Yeah baby. I sincerely hope this is a PERMANENT addition/replacement to the commentary booth. Seriously.

I love me some JR, but if they plan on keeping Cole in the booth as well he NEEDS to drop the heel gimmick. It's unlistenable to hear him bitch out Ross everytime he opens his mouth

Fuck Jim Ross. Every time he gets brought back, it makes it that much harder for people to accept the current crop of commentators. How many times do we need to rip this fucking band-aid off?

So long as Jim Ross is alive and can speak English, he should be the god damn play by play man. That's his job until DEATH man.

Then, it's Scott Stanford's job. I demand it.

I hate to say it, but the WWE will be better when Jim Ross is dead.

Don't look at me like that. You people push me to this every time you have that knee-jerk reaction to the latest JR return.

The current crop aren't that bad are they? Cole's improved tremendously over the years and he's actually good when he does play-by-play rather than playing the heel character. And I love listening to Booker, it's not that he's good at commentary, atleast not yet, but the unintentional comedy scale is through the roof every Friday thanks to him.
King just sucks these days.

That would make Punk look dumb then. Did he really think they wouldn't get a champion to replace him? Not to mention, Punk has already beaten Cena, so he's has no reason to come back.

The only thing I could think of is a "Fired" match or a "3 month contract". But both of those are stretches, given the way the feud has played out already.

Better to have him on now than to have people forget about him. He's got heat right now, the WWE needs to play that out. If you hold him off, you don't get a proper Summerslam build, and fans will have forgotten the fact he's supposed have heat.

Agree completely. Especially since Ross is a terrible play-by-play man these days. His time was up 5 years ago. He was literally stumbling over himself tonight.

Makes perfect sense. Just not sure I'd have him back by Summerslam. However the problem there would be who else do they have. Kind of the only way they can go I guess.

So then he also realizes the only reason this is happening in the first place is a little knob slob to get him to re-sign, and it will run out of gas by Survivor Series?

You know, the shame of CM Punk coming back at the end of the show is that it's overshadowing the very good main-event that Cena won. I was surprised Mysterio controlled so much of the offense in the match, but I thought he and Cena did some very creative and entertaining things. I was quite pleased with both Mysterio matches tonight.

Not if someone important sees dollar signs on him. And a Cult of Personality like him will surely make someone a believer (if he hasn't already).

It was delicious. Mysterio-Cena in a main event is years overdue and it lived up to its potential. In addition, Mysterio winning world titles after people ran him down as a one hit wonder always thrills me.
