NFL Week One LD - IT'S BAAAAAACCCCKKKKK!!!!!

Not to take away anything from Green Bay, they're a great team, but the Saints handed them that game tonight. Some bad play calls, plus our defense's IQ just being the shits, is why Green Bay won tonight.

However, I'm not even that disappointed. Green Bay has a fucking fantastic defense and the Saints made them look absolutely mediocre. Also, I don't know how anyone could watch tonight's game and not walk away knowing that Drew Brees is without a doubt the best Quarterback in the league.

All in all, I see a rematch between these two teams going down in the NFC Championship, only this time the result will be different.

Lastly, I <3 Darren Sproles. He was spectacular tonight, and I have a feeling it was only the beginning to a wonderful stint with the Saints.

Because Aaron Rodgers played just as good if not a little better and his team won the game.

Here's the difference: Aaron Rodgers did that against a BAD defense (really bad), and Brees did it to one of the best defenses in the league. And Brees still had better numbers.

It's a little early in the season to decide how good each teams defense is. Last year you'd be right but I've seen great defenses one year have a down year the next and vice versa. Brees may have thrown for more yards but he also threw 14 more passes. Rodgers had the better completion % and yards per attempt.

Also, Aaron Rodgers played nearly perfect. What's to say he wouldn't have put up similar numbers against an elite defense? Kind of like he did in the SB last year against the Steelers great defense.

EDIT: Remember I'm a Lions fan so I don't exactly have a GB bias.

There were 4 drives though where Green Bay had to punt, and 3 of them happened because of bad throws from Rodgers. Brees' 4 drives that ended prematurely though were on a fumble from a wide receiver, a failed 4th down conversion where a horrible play call was made, and 2 punts both being caused by him not having any protection on 3rd down. Pretty much every time Brees got his hands on the ball he put his team in a position to score... that's the perfect game. Drew also, once again, proved how clutch he is.

And the game against Steelers was a good one with some great plays from the wide receivers. Rodgers was very good in that game, but his numbers were nothing like tonight, and that's because the Saints defense absolutely SUCKS. And this is coming from a Saints fan who wants to blindly believe tonight was just a bad night, but after 3 atrocious preseason games and tonight, the Saints defense is just dreadful, bottom line. There's no fucking pass rush from the D-Line and our secondary (outside of Jenkins) could not be more incompetent.

Listen, I'm not trying to take anything away from Rodgers; in fact, I would put him #2 on my list of best QBs, but Brees is better and tonight, in my opinion, proved it.

I know. You just find any excuse you can to argue about sports. :icon_razz:

By the way, I put a lot of stock in Stafford by drafting him on my Fantasy Team. His preseason numbers were fucking mind-blowing... he better not let me down. ;)

He wasn't even the best QB in the game tonight.

Like I said to Big Sexy, Rodgers played against one of the worst defenses in the league, while Brees played against one of the best. And Brees still managed to have better numbers than Rodgers. To me, that's all I need to know to make my mind up on who is better between the two.

One of the best defenses in the league in the first game of the season. Tom Brady or Peyton Manning would have crushed that defense tonight.

No to mention Brees had more yards because he was playing from behind and had to keep throwing. Rodgers spent the majority of the 4th just handing off.

I'm a bit pissed at New Orleans though. The fuckers left me with -1 points for their shitty defense. I really should have paid attention to my roster.

Also where are you getting this "better numbers" from?

Comp %
Brees- 65%
Rodgers-77%

Yards
Brees- 419
Rodgers- 312

AVG
Brees- 8.6
Rodgers- 8.9

TDs
Brees- 3
Rodgers- 3

INTs
Brees- 0
Rodgers- 0

QB rating
Brees- 112.5
Rodgers- 132.1

The only category that Brees had better numbers Rodgers tonight was Yards, everything else was either even or in Rodgers favor, And even really the only reason Brees had more yards was because the Saints threw the ball more, GB had more rushing yards & attempts than NO. I not trying to take anything Brees he's one hell of a QB, and is probably my second favorite QB to watch right behind Rodgers, but tonight Rodgers was simply the better QB.

Brees QB rating for tonight- 112.5

Rodgers QB rating for tonight- 132.1

Ya know, just sayin'

Experts always say to never take the rating system seriously.

Nate's point here though is a good one...

That's true. Can't argue it.

This, however, is completely false:

One of the best defenses in the league in the first game of the season. Tom Brady or Peyton Manning would have crushed that defense tonight.

Not true at all, my man. Brees earned every fucking thing he got tonight. He was continuously under pressure and had to place the ball perfectly on his throws for his receivers to have a shot at getting it. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, could have put up the numbers Brees did tonight against Green Bay (ESPECIALLY when playing from behind ON THE ROAD), which is why I'm so gun-ho about this "Drew Brees is the best QB in the league" argument.

The Saints were behind all night long, and all because of Brees they had a shot to win the game. The guy is fucking remarkable.

Okay, ignoring the numbers argument since I've admitted that the bolded part of this statement is true and therefore I should not be using the stats game against Rodgers... my point still remains that Rodgers was at home against a fucking horrible defense, and Brees was on the road (one of the toughest crowds to play against) facing off against a top 5 defense in the league, and Brees still managed to have those kinds of numbers. That's why, ultimately, what Brees did tonight is way more impressive then what Rodgers did.

Why the FUCK would you pick New Orleans defense? Especially against the Packers.

Tonight was a major Catch 22 in my Fantasy Leagues. On the one hand, I'm happy with Brees tearing up the field because it gives me major points in the WZ league, but I also started Green Bay's defense which netted me a stellar 4 points. It's a shame, I meant to switch to Houston's defense too against a Manningless Colts. Additionally, the guy I'm facing in my other league has Brees as hist starter.

Lulz. Yeah I know. I wasn't paying attention to my Yahoo league and I let it slip through. This is my first time playing Fantasy, so go easy god damnit.

Your offensive coordinator should be fired for handing the ball off on the last play of the game. Payton should slap himself for allowing it, and Brees should kick his own ass for not calling an audible.
