MMA GSD For May - RIP Francisco, King of the Douchebags

How the fuck does Clay Guida, if he beats Pettis deserve a title shot before Miller? That makes no fucking sense. And please beating Gomi warrants fuck all.

Last week it was revealed that Gus Johnson's contract with CBS had expired, and on Tuesday morning it was reported that Johnson has accepted a job at Fox. But that doesn't mean he's done as the voice of mixed martial arts on Showtime, the sister network of CBS.

Sources told MMAFighting.com that Johnson's contract with CBS was for basketball and football, and that his deal to call fights (both MMA and boxing) for Showtime was a separate contract. That contract is still in effect, and Johnson will call Saturday night's Andre Ward-Arthur Abraham boxing match for Showtime. Although Showtime hasn't yet announced who will broadcast its next MMA show (a June 18 Strikeforce card), Johnson is expected to call that event as well.

Theoretically, it's even possible that Johnson could be back on the CBS airwaves if CBS ever aired another Strikeforce fight: When Johnson called EliteXC and Strikeforce fights on CBS in the past, that was part of his Showtime deal. It's probably a long shot that we'd see Johnson back on CBS, however.

The news that Johnson is leaving CBS got a generally negative reaction from mainstream sports fans and the media, as Johnson is very popular as a college basketball broadcaster, and his style is a perfect fit for March Madness on CBS. But he's less popular among MMA fans, many of whom question whether he really gets the sport.

Still, Johnson is one of the few proponents of MMA among mainstream sports broadcasters. While HBO's lead boxing voice, Jim Lampley, rarely discusses MMA except to compare it unfavorably to boxing, Johnson spoke admiringly about MMA during Saturday night's Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley fight, at one point comparing and contrasting the striking styles of the two sports and noting that a punch Pacquiao threw was similar to an MMA Superman punch.

So Johnson remains an MMA fan himself, even if MMA fans are often critical of his work. And even though he's leaving CBS for boxing, his Showtime deal allows him to remain an MMA broadcaster as well.

It's great that Gus is a fan, but why is he so bad at broadcasting MMA and wrong all the time?

Yeah, it really is embarrassing. I'm surprised Strikeforce haven't taken the hint from the fans that NO-ONE likes Gus Johnson.

Pettis has ONLY fought one good fighter, THAT'S IT. Miller at least has beaten Oliviera, Tibeau and is on a larger winning streak and the fighters he's beaten are MUCH better than the guys Pettis has beaten. Consider the talents of that orginization before talking about a merger. A Guida win is very good but Miller should've gotten the fucking shot after he DESTROYED Shalrous, who was one of the best lightweights WEC had to offer. Miller deserves it more than Pettis, by a long shot.

FLAWS IN YOUR FUCKING LOGIC HOMEBOY.

Oliviera is a good prospect, not a huge win for anyone. Beating a prospect like that says more about Oliviera's need for some improvement more than the skills of the guys who beat him at this point. And Tibeau? Tough guy sure, but he's one of the most inconsistent lightweights out there. Anytime they've put him against a top ten or even just top 15 he's lost. Neither of these are impressive names honestly, at least not ones that will earn a title shot.

And you mention Shalorus as one of the best that the WEC had to offer. Sure that could be said, especially seeing who they've kept and haven't kept after the merger. But Shalorus wasn't a champion...Henderson was. So why does Miller get credit for beating Kamal but you are saying Pettis beating Henderson for the WEC's LW Championship isn't worthy of credit...I hope you see what you're saying here is bullshit. Not to mention Miller didn't DESTROY Kamal, there were many points where it was competitive. He ended it in brutal fashion sure, but it wasn't a mismatch. If Pettis beats Guida, he has gotten a bigger win than Miller ever has.

Usually I stay away from MMAth but there is something here to think about...Miller barely got past Bocek. He earned the win, but it was definitely close. Henderson just owned Bocek last month. Pettis beat Henderson. Clearly these never work picking a surefire winner, but it's still something to think about.

Chester is on my ignore list, so I can't respond. Anyways, Hardy/Lytle on for UFC on Versus. Should be a fucking war.

Man, they aren't letting up on Hardy. They should really give him a tune up fight so he can get back in the groove since they definitely want to keep him around for the UK cards. I don't want to see Lytle lose again either, though I think he would take this one.

I love the Hardy/Lytle fight so much. Not a big Hardy fan but with Lytle involved my interest increases. Should be a fucking war and a lot of fun to watch.

Man, I just looked over UFC 131... what a god awful card. Usually they stack up Lesnar cards, but Jesus... now that Lesnar is out, there is zero reason to order this show.

UFC 131 should REALLY be for free, especially since UFC 130 got fucked.

UFC 132 is incredibly stacked, though. It's just a shame we have to wait all the way to fucking July to get a decent UFC show. Thank God for Strikeforce's June show (and Dream's show as well), which is as stacked of card as Strikeforce has ever put on. Hopefully they air more than 4 fights, though.

Jon... you're the Bellator fanboy 'round these parts, how well do you think Hector Lombard would do in the UFC Middleweight Division?
