MMA GSD For May - RIP Francisco, King of the Douchebags

Anyone else believe Maynard faked the injury so he could avoid having to fight Pettis, who was going to be Edgar's replacement?

I don't know about that, Maynard's a tough SOB.

He's really not all that tough (by "tough" MMA fighter standards, I mean). Nate Diaz tapped him out with the weakest Guillotine Choke I've ever seen.

Also, I'm sure Maynard just didn't want to risk that title shot. To me it just seems like too much of a coincidence for him to get injured right at the same time Edgar had to back out of the fight.

He was going to tough out the rib injury for the title shot, but wasn't game to tough it out for the Pettis fight. Poor Pettis getting fucked over left and right.

Except for the fact that he was promised a title shot. What has Miller done to deserve a title shot before the guy who was champion of a merged promotion? Hendo got to unify his Pride belts when he came over. Why should we deny Pettis the same opportunity? Miller needs a top 5 LW before talks of a title shot start.

Well the card is still stacked, but the buy rates will fall by a good 100 k me thinks. Good thing they have Rampage headlining though, casual fans love them an angry black man. As for fans of Hamill go...evne if he weren't deaf he'd hear no support for him.

"All of us are gonna make mistakes, it's how you deal with those mistakes that matter. You take a guy like Josh Barnett. This guy has tested positive three times and denies every one of them, says he didn't take them. He comes out with an interview last week saying, 'I don't care about anyone else. i only care about myself. I have some fans out there and whatever, but I'm not fighting for you, I'm fighting for me.' This is a guy who single-handedly put a company out of business and couldn't care less. He has no remorse. 'I don't care that you bought tickets to the fight. I don't care that Fedor flew all the way in from Russia and trained and spent his own money to do this. I don't care that this company Affliction believed in me and was allowing me to make a living before i put them out of business.' Those are the kind of guys I have zero tolerance for. And that's why he's not in the UFC and never will be."

He never shouldn't been promised a title shot, there's fight such as Miller who deserve it more than he does. Who the fuck has Pettis beat outside of Hnederson? No-one AT ALL. Miller's beaten 7 guys in a row- yes 7! And this isn't Pride, this is WEC! Miller's beaten anyone he's come across except the 2 champions. You're an idiot if you actually think Pettis has beaten better fighters than Miller. And I guess Guida deserves it more than Miller for beating Gomi, right?

No-one right now, should get the shit after Maynard other Miller.

Anyone else hear the story about Rampage slapping Rashad in a nightclub sometime after Page's fight with Machida? I was just reading a story about it and I can't tell if it's legit or not, but if it is then my god do I love Page even more.

Rashad is better than Page.

An argument could be made that that may be true, but then again Rashad got KO'ed in his first title defense, whereas Page actually defended the belt successfully.

Yea, because it's been said that Guida gets a title shot if he beats Pettis and everything.

I never said that Pettis beat better fighters than Miller. I said Miller hasn't fought top competition which is the truth. He deserves a top 5 fight? Yes. He deserves an immediate title shot? No. Why shouldn't Pettis have been promised a title shot? He was good enough to win the title in an organization so he should be given the chance to merge those belts. It's a simple concept. Champion comes to a new promotion with the belt, he merges the two. Pettis shouldn't get snuffed any more than he is already just because WEC wasn't as big as Pride. If Pettis beats Guida, Pettis will have two better wins in his last two fights than Miller has had in his career. More than enough to warrant a title shot.

Plus, Rashad BARELY beat an out-of-shape Rampage who was coming off a year long lay-off.

Here's my take on the Miller title shot situation: He does have an impressive streak going right now, made even more impressive by the fact that his only two losses are to the top two in the division. That definitely warrants at the very least a contender fight. The other side to the argument is also true though...he hasn't beat any top opponents. His biggest victory would be against one of three men: Bocek, Tibau or Danzig just on name value. None of those guys are pushovers, but none are even top 15. It could be argued that Edgar got a shot after beating Veach, but he also had Sherk and Griffin on his resume as well.

So it's tough to say who deserves a shot more, Miller or Pettis. I think Jim deserves one more based on opponents and streak but Pettis proves a very interesting challenger and if he himself can get past a two-dollar-steak-tough Guida then he should be right up there.

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen will not be meeting with the Nevada State Athletic Commission in May as originally planned. He instead finds himself under suspension again in California and will appear before the state’s athletic commission next week to appeal its recent decision.

Sonnen had been trying to regain his license to fight again in Nevada, thinking his time had been served in California.

When asked about Sonnen’s current status in Nevada, NSAC executive director Keith Kizer, in an e-mail response, directed MMAWeekly.com to the California State Athletic Commission.

CSAC executive director George Dodd revealed that Sonnen has recently been placed under indefinite administrative suspension by the commission. He will have a hearing on May 18 to appeal the commission’s decision.

“Chael completed his suspension for the athletic commission just recently, so he still had time on his license here in California, and what we did, we put him on a California State Administrative Suspension for the remainder of his license, until he appeared before the commission,” Dodd told MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday.

“We sent Chael a letter and he’s requested to appear in front of the commission to appeal his suspension. Currently, we have the date of May 18 for next week for his appeal of his current suspension.”

In explaining the suspension, Dodd indicated that Nevada has decided to uphold California’s ruling, honoring Sonnen’s current administrative suspension.

“It’s kind of like the (Antonio) Margarito hearing (in boxing), where we had him on an indefinite suspension. Each state can make a determination of what they want to do with him, but Nevada and a lot of other states work together, and they honor each other’s suspensions,” Dodd stated.

“They have chose to honor our suspension.”

The California State Athletic Commission originally ruled in December that Sonnen would be suspended for a total of six months with that suspension coming to a close in early March.

Dodd stated that Sonnen’s current administrative suspension is due to two factors, which the Team Quest fighter will respond to when he meets with the commission on May 18.

“It’s based off two things. One, his pleading guilty to his felony conviction up in Oregon, as well as possibly providing false testimony during his hearing back in December.”

Sonnen’s felony conviction stems from a charge of Federal money laundering. He was sentenced to 24 months of probation and a $10,000 fine, as well as having his real estate license revoked.

Dodd did not provide details of the alleged false testimony, but it likely stems from a statement Sonnen made during his original testimony with the California State Athletic Commission in December, when he referenced a conversation he stated he had with Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer about his testosterone therapy.

Later in his testimony, Sonnen clarified that it was actually his coach, Matt Lindland, that spoke to Kizer and not him directly, but the original statement has been bandied about in reports and may have caused some of Sonnen’s recent problems in gaining re-licensure in Nevada.

MMAWeekly.com attempted to contact Sonnen and his management team at MMA Incorporated, but they were unavailable for comment at the time of publication.

I mean, at least he gets to appeal the decision next week. Let's hold our tongues until the decision is final.

Pettis has ONLY fought one good fighter, THAT'S IT. Miller at least has beaten Oliviera, Tibeau and is on a larger winning streak and the fighters he's beaten are MUCH better than the guys Pettis has beaten. Consider the talents of that orginization before talking about a merger. A Guida win is very good but Miller should've gotten the fucking shot after he DESTROYED Shalrous, who was one of the best lightweights WEC had to offer. Miller deserves it more than Pettis, by a long shot.

Holy shit Guy, did you create that pic yourself?

No.

Also, holy shit this is going to rule... the winner of this fight will still need another win or two until getting a title shot, but regardless, what a great fight this is going to be. Very evenly matched in all facets of MMA, although I think I'd give Miller the edge for a better top game, and his new-found devastating power... he obliterated Kamal Shalorus, who is a tough son of a bitch after all.

Jim Miller's new lot in life may be testing the mettle of former WEC lightweights. After destroying Kamal Shalorus at UFC 128 many were calling for Miller to get a crack at the lightweight championship. After all, Miller had run off seven consecutive UFC wins and only Gray Maynard and Frankie Edgar hold wins over him.

With Edgar and Maynard injured and their third fight postponed, a title fight wasn't coming any time soon and it now appears that former WEC lightweight champion Ben Henderson is next. The Asbury Park Press breaks the news:

The Whippany-based mixed martial artist is expected to face former World Extreme Cagefighting champion Ben Henderson, sources close to the UFC confirmed to New Jersey Press Media late Tuesday.

The bout is scheduled for "UFC on Versus 5" on Aug. 14 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wis.

Henderson is coming off an impressively dominant victory over Mark Bocek at UFC 129 and the winner of this fight should be put right in line with the winner of Anthony Pettis vs. Clay Guida for a title shot.

Edit: Hahahaha wow. He went from showing up on the main card of a PPV as an unknown, killed the career of Gerald Harris, had to pull out of a fight against Alessio Sakara, and now he's cut.

Also, is getting fired by email better or worse than getting fired by FedEx?
Breaking: Maiquel Falcão cut by the UFC

Maiquel Falcao made his UFC debut with a win over previously undefeated Gerald Harris and was set to fight Tom Lawlor at UFC Rio, but he’s no longer a UFC fighter anymore. According to his manager Marcelo Brigadeiro, who sent an open letter to TATAME.com minutes ago, the promotion decided to end his contract due to some legal problems, when he got in a fight at his hometown, in 2002.

“Good night everyone,

We’ve received an e-mail from Joe Silva yesterday saying that the UFC decided to end Maiquel Falcão’s contract. They decided to do that because of some legal problems Maiquel got involved recently.
