WWE RAW LD 2/4/2012 - Hate; To Rise Above, or to Embrace?

In the end, Justin has the greatest sig i've ever seen, and one of my favorite athletes of all time has returned to wrestling. I could not be any happier than I am at this moment.

I doubt the match with Cena will be soon. Remember, Brock has done very limited training since he retired from the UFC. He had a hefty suspension after his last fight and will likely need some time to peak into prime shape. He'll be fed jobbers to get the rust off all while training like a complete beast. The guy isn't old and with his illness at bay, he will be just fine after some training.

Lesnar was one of the toughest guys on the planet. He beat the holy shit out of professional fighters for years. Him whipping Cena's ass will in no way hurt Cena.

Jesus, this whole you needz to put him over! shit is getting way out of hand.

Except that last time Lesnar fought he got the shit kicked out of him, he's been sick for like 2 years, and he's not nearly the same guy to the WWE Universe. Regardless, I get why WWE wanted him back because it's like the only big name you could get that would mean anything so they did it. I just fear that this could quickly become 1998 WCW in that you keep bringing in big names from years past to boost ratings short term while putting aside up and coming stars that could become huge long term. I hope I'm wrong but that's the fear.

Plus, I'm not making the argument because of that. I'm making it because I've never liked Lesnar and I'm not going to root for him to beat Cena.

I'm curious about how Lesnar will be booked and if he'll be a "full-time" wrestler. We all know Rocky isn't coming back for a few months, and we all know Brock isn't going to wrestle at every house show, but where is the balance for Brock?

... and, in real life, could still beat the absolute living fuck out of John Cena. People know that, and that will make Brock that much more of a threat. Maybe the biggest threat Cena could ever face.

The end result is that Cena lost to two guys he has no business losing to. That's the end result. After that, who gives a shit as that result, especially given the shape Lesnar looks to be in, would be WWE creative taking a massive dump on this generation. No Cena heel turn would be able to save the fact that a fat Lesnar beat Cena. If he can do it, what does that say about everyone else in this generation? And with that, how the fuck does Cena turning heel help that? Plus, outside of Brock and Rock, who the fuck as a face could match up with Cena the heel? MAYBE Orton and MAYBE Punk and that's it. Long term it's about the worst idea ever. Unless you think Zack Ryder can be a main event babyface by then........

The bolded part is the key here. I never suggested a Cena heel turn needs to be a long term thing.

The Rock returns. The fans win because they are treated to his special talents for a finite period of time. Dwayne wins because he gets a big payday, promotion for his movies, and gets his ego majorly stroked along the way. Cena will win as we will see.

Lesnar returns. Again the fans win for the same reason. Brock too gets a huge payday and some major ego feeding. Cena will win as we will see.

How will Cena win? Cena as a heel will draw. It will be interesting. It will re-energize his character and re-connect him to his fans. His edgier side will appeal to the fans he has lost over the last few years.

Ultimately, in the not too distant future, he will come to see the error of his ways, and he will turn back. It will be a huge story when super Cena return as the uber popular face. I think if you look at the big picture and think longer term, this scenario works really well for everyone. Especially all of us.

Psh, the hate is the biggest threat John Cena has ever faced. And he faces it on a day-to-day basis too.

Do you honestly think that will work? I don't. While his predecessors did turn, they quickly became "cool heels" as Hogan was Hollywood, Austin was funny with Vince and Angle, and Rock was funny with his concerts and Hurricane stuff. They were turned back because them being heels was ultimately stupid if they were going to try and get over as faces anyway. You could argue this on a lesser extent with R-Truth as he became a heel and quickly became hilarious so the fans wanted to cheer him. Cena won't do that. He's the type of guy that if he's going to do something, he's going to commit to it. He'd want to be the best heel possible. That said, I don't see how we win. You are saying he'd turn heel AFTER losing to Lesnar. Who would he face as a heel? Give me an idea of the feuds he'd have and maybe that could make sense. As it stands, it doesn't make an ounce of sense though and that's because there's really no way to book it short term unless Cena does what those before him does and doesn't take the turn seriously.

Fine, but that doesn't make Brock magically become the freak athlete he once was. This is wrestling and an MMA fight with Cena won't cut it. He'll have to bust out the shit he used to do and I don't think he'll be able to do it anymore. He's not the same athlete. Thus, people will "mark out" at the possibility of the match but the match itself could fall flat.

Either way, I don't have to like Lesnar. Reading his book was torture enough.

I think I found a new hobby. It is truly great fun to just watch people flip out every time they think Cena is going to turn heel and doesn't. I love it.

I can't quote since I'm on my old blackberry and everything is out of date, so...

Chrome, I'm not trying to be that guy but I'll feel bad for Cena if the right thing doesn't get done. He's beaten everyone but he never really had a star to wrestle. A legend needs to job to Cena. It's plain and simple. I want to enjoy this. I really do. And I did enjoy mania and raw. But I just want the Rock and Brock to do the right thing...

One way or another, they will. Rock will eventually lose to Cena, and if Cena and Brock are heading into some sort of feud, he will do the same... eventually. However, you must keep one thing in mind - no one wants to see this two massive stars come back and lose. That's a fact. Also, if they did come back and immediately jobbed to Cena, it wouldn't give us much to look forward to. WWE's on the unpredictability train right now, and so far, the surprises have been really good. Keep it up, Vinny.

Why does almost no one get the obvious? Cena beating these guys in a one and done does nothing for him. If anything it might make him less popular. They can actually put Cena over more by beating him.

Then we should probably have him lose in 2 minutes like HHH did to the Ultimate Warrior in 1996. Look how over that got him!
