The {Original} Wrestlezone Tournament

If you read my entire post you'd realize I explained my reasoning, and no I'm not ignoring the stipulation, in fact I'm acknowledging the fact that realistically, Vince would do anything to avoid having Styles advance to the next round in HIS arena, but nice try.

Oh I see your method of voting now. Choosing the result of one specific match and choosing a winner based on that, huh? So just because Kane jobbed to Shane once he can't beat Owen? Well guess what? Kane's won a world championship, Owen never did. And In the confines of a steel cage how do you see Owen beating Kane? A guy like Owen Hart would hit and run on kane in order to be able to beat him and he can't do that in a cage. Kane is a bruiser and he would eat Owen alive inside of a cage.

Nash doesn't suck, he's accomplished a lot more in his career than Owen did and like Shockmaster said, people are underrating him because they've only seen the things he's done in his later years in WCW and his recent stuff in WWE and TNA. The truth is that he was a monster in his prime and he could beat him.

Read this from wikipedia about Nash's first run in WWE:

"On November 26, 1994, Diesel defeated Bob Backlund for the WWF Championship at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York in an eight-second squash match. Michaels was irate about his former bodyguard having beaten him to the WWF Championship, and was sufficiently motivated to go on to win the 1995 Royal Rumble, earning himself a title shot at WrestleMania XI. At WrestleMania XI on April 2, 1995, Nash, accompanied to ringside by actress Pamela Anderson, defeated Michaels to retain the title."

Nash wouldn't have squashed Backlund for the title at MSG and he wouldn't have beaten HBK at wrestlemania if he sucked.

And why would he beat him in the said match? 1 - HBK is a bleeder 2 - An ambulance match is not a casket match, you have to be able to beat down your opponent long enough to drag him to an ambulance and throw him in an ambulance and close it, which i don't see HBK being able to do to a much bigger Nash after bleeding profusely during the entire match and going through a No Holds Barred match with him.

Again, do you realize that ignoring the stipulation makes no sense? I didn't ignore it in my vote for Hogan, I explained that. But Professional wrestling isn't only about who could wrestle better, you need to consider all the intangibles. If you want to ignore all of that go watch boxing or amateur wrestling, we won't miss you.

Been lackin lately, here are my picks you guys.

The Wrestlezone Tournament - Round 4
WCW Region - Atlanta, GA

I Quit Match
Ric Flair vs. Chris Jericho - Hard as hell match up, the first of undoubtedly many to come. Jericho is one of the best of the last fifteen years easily, but Flair in his prime was an absolute techincal masterpiece. The guy knew more about wrestling than half of the guys do today. After a long and tough battle that sees both men pulling out all stops, I see Flair barely being able to take this one over Jericho. Kind of disappointing in a way, because although Flair is the better technical wrestler, I've always seen Jericho as the better all around wrestler (let the hatemail begin).
Winner: Ric Flair

2 Out of 3 Falls Match
The Rock vs. Christian Cage - Another tough as nails match up, one that I see being a lot closer than alot of people think. Cage will get the first fall in a shocker to the fans, but the Rock's amazing stamina will prove the biggest factor here, as he will be able to take out Cage with two straight falls in a hellacious match up.
Winner: The Rock

Inferno Match
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Chris Benoit - God damnit, I knew something stupid like this would happen. Inferno matches really only work for 'Taker, Kane, and Japanese hardcore extremists. If this were any sort of submission match up, Benoit would take this match in the upset over the fan favorite Austin, but given the unpredictability of this kind of match, Austin will be able to take this one easier than you might think. The uberfans riot at the thought of Benoit being sent home this early, but unfortunately thats the way it goes.
Winner: Stone Cold Steve Austin

Casket Match
Lex Luger vs. Brock Lesnar - The oddest match up of the round except for the Inferno stips, this is also a dream match for me. You got the two most steroid fueled overhyped wrestling disappointments of all time in the same ring. Luger in his prime against Lesnar in his prime is how you gotta think about this one, and in that case, I see Lesnar taking it easily. Lesnar was truly fantastic in his prime, but quickly faded into absolute crap after his first year or two in the WWE. Same with Luger.
Winner: Brock Lesnar

TNA Region - iMPACT! Zone, Orlando, FL
Biker Chain Match
Jeff Jarrett vs. The Big Show - Yet again another lucky draw for the Big Show. He should never have passed Steamboat in the last round if it wasn't for the chokeslam stipulation, and this time being tied to a smaller guy like Jarrett is going to again favor his size. Show takes this one after a good ten minutes of action that sees Jarrett leave his own promotion's hometown in a fuss.
Winner: The Big Show

Briefcase On a Pole Match
Booker T vs. Rick Rude - Another tough match up here. Originally I was sure I was going with Booker T, as his aerial offense would help in a match involving grabbing something off a pole, but than I thought of Rude's heyday. Absolute wrestling god right there, I can see him breaking Booker's aerial offense by working on his legs before climbing up to grab the briefcase which rightfully is his (after all, he did carry a briefcase around for a long time there didn't he?)
Winner: Rick Rude

Ultimate Submission Match
Triple H vs. Vader - Another tough match up and one that people are unjustly calling a bad match. HHH versus Vader sounds like a dream match to me personally, and you can expect an all out brawl in this one with ridiculious violence. Vader would take this one if it were a match he'd be able to showcase his power in, but given Triple H's very little known technical skills (yes, he does have them) he takes this one in what seems like a bit of an upset to me. Maybe not.
Winner: Triple H

30 Minute Iron Man Match
Rob Van Dam vs. Eddie Guerrero - An absolute classic here. This match is going to have the fans chanting "This Is Awesome!" for almost the entire match. All the stops get pulled out here as both men try to prove their excellence. RVD scores the advantage early with two rapid fire pinfalls after the Rolling Thunder and 5 Star Frog splash before Guerrero scores two falls of his own, one with the Boston Crab submission and the other with his own version of the frog splash. The time limit runs out and we go into overtime as the fans are absolutely rioting by this point with the awesome quality of this match. Finally, RVD grabs a chair and hits the Van Terminator without a thought in his head, and the ref calls for the bell and the DQ finish. The crowd is pissed at the finish, but one cannot deny that the better man has won. Atleast, IMO the better man has won. RVD's style was revolutionary when he first came into the biz, but Guerrero was truly one of the three or four best of all time. Helluva match here.
Winner: Eddie Guerrero

So we're looking at probably
Ric Flair vs. The Rock
Stone Cold vs. Brock Lesnar
The Big Show vs. Rick Rude
Triple H vs. Eddie Guerrero

Awesome...

I'll be back with my other picks later.

Here we go with my picks!!!

WWE Region

Match 1
Hulk Hogan vs. AJ Styles
Has Hogan ever wrestled a ladder match? AJ has the speed but this is how I see it going down. Hulk does what he does and Hulks up, gives AJ the big boot and goes for the leg drop and AJ barely moves out of the way and kicks Hogan out of the ring and runs up to grab the case an go on!

Match 2
Sting vs. Terry Funk
In just about any match but this I'd pick Sting. Even with this stip I could see Sting winning but Funk is so sadistic that he'll do anything and I mean anything to win. With his prime body and being in his element, he wins. Funk moves on.

Match 3
Bret Hart vs. Kurt Angle
I'd love to see this match but we never will because Hart can't ever wrestle again. I see Angle, Angle Slamming Hart through the table. I'd pick Angle for just about any stip. I think he's technically superior.

Match 4
Undertaker vs. Bam Bam Bigelow
Undertaker easy.

ECW Region

Match 5
Harley Race vs Raven
Ok the stip here makes no difference. There's no advantage at all. Both are completely exhausted after there last match but I think Raven is fresher because he only had one opponent, while Race had 2. I think while Race is lifting the blindfold, Raven will already have his lifted while the ref is distracted by the flock and NAIL race with a HUGE ddt to knock him out.

Match 6
Owen Hart vs. Kane
When I think of Kane in his prime, I think when he first came out in the WWE with the mask and the mistique. He was brutal as hell and I think Owen would keep up but Kane would use the cage like Owen has never seen. I see Kane launching Hart into the cage over and over until Hart is bleeding and then hitting the chokeslam.

Match 7
Shane Douglas vs. Tazz
This is a toss-up but I think Tazz will pull it out.

Match 8
HBK vs. Kevin Nash
HBK bleeds faster and more than just about anyone in the business so I think Nash takes First Blood to go up 1-0 but when HBK tastes his own blood, he goes crazy and pummels Nash in the No Holds Barred portion of the match. Going into the third match, there both exhausted and bloodied and this is where I think HBK's stamina comes in and leads him to stuffing Nash into the back of the ambulance.

This leads to:
AJ Styles vs. Terry Funk
Kurt Angle vs. The Undertaker (good match)
Raven vs. Kane (this one will be interesting)
Tazz vs. HBK (I think Tazz's long run is over)

I didn't think that I was going to see such strong cases for the Hulkster. I want to change my vote!

One thing I'm suprised to see is that everyone thinks that Taker is going to beat Bam Bam Bigelow so easily. You guys do remember who Bam Bam is right? The man can move and I think he would take Taker to the limit. I think this is going to be one hell of a match with Taker coming out on top, but by no means, in an easy match.

Holy tap dancing christ, this is the best round of matches by far ever.

The Wrestlezone Tournament - Round 4
WWE Region
Ladder Match
Hulk Hogan vs. AJ Styles - If you vote Hogan, than you are blinded by your liking of Hogan. And thats okay, because Hogan is a classic star who could never be replicated. But in a ladder match Hogan doesn't stand a freakin chance, Styles takes this one easily in the biggest upset of the tourny so far.
Winner: AJ Styles

Sadistic Madness Match
Sting vs. Terry Funk - Possible match of all time here. This one goes on for a good hour before either man is busted open. If this were a technical or scientific mach I'd be all about Sting despite my love for the Funker, but in a hardcore match like this one, you have to go with the Icon himself, Funk. Expect barbed wire, thumbtacks, flaming chairs and branding irons in one of the best matches, ever.
Winner: Terry Funk

Tables Match
Bret Hart vs. Kurt Angle - The oddest match choice imaginable, everyone was hoping for the ultimate submission match here. Angle is a wrestling god, he really is, and it hurts me to say this, but he won't ever be on the same level as Bret Hart. Hart is truly the wrestler's wrestler.
Winner: Bret Hart

Regular Rules Match
The Undertaker vs. Bam Bam Bigelow - Bam Bam puts up a good fight, but 'Taker in his prime takes this one easily.
Winner: The Undertaker

ECW Region
Blindfold Match
Harley Race vs. Raven - Given a regular match, Race takes this one rather easily, but I may be in the minority here in saying that Race wouldn't stand a chance blindfolded in the ECW arena. That's Raven's turf, and Race will be lucky to last ten minutes before some ECW alum comes out to help Raven and end this match, in a huuuuuuge upset that sees the ECW fans throw off the shadows of the old wrestling age and usher in a new one.
Winner: Raven

Steel Cage Match
Owen Hart vs. Kane - Another tough as hell match up. Kane has got the power advantage, but he was never very good in a cage (see his matches with X-Pac), whereas Owen Hart was a master of the cage match, a little known fact. Given his success against his brother in the cage, I'm going with Owen on this one. Maybe I'm a little biased by my love for Owen, but I see him taking this one in yet another upset.
Winner: Owen Hart

Clockwork Orange House of Fun Match
The Franchise Shane Douglas vs. Taz - This is about as much a classic ECW match as you can get. Given Shane's failure to beat Taz in his past, I see Taz taking this one in a rather hellacious battle. Expect tons of bloodshed here.
Winner: Taz

3 Stages of Hell Match
Stage One: First Blood
Stage Two: No Holds Barred
Stage Three (If Needed): Ambulance Match

Shawn Michaels vs. Kevin Nash - A hell of a match here. I thought 3 stages of hell was being saved for the next round? Guess not, this match would be fucking amazing. Expect a drag down fist fight turned into battle of best friends. Nash splits open HBK in the first match, but in the second we see HBK get the sweet chin music for the victory. Finally, in the ambulance match we see Nash pounding a chair over HBK's head next to the ambulance. Nash turns around to tell the ref to get off his back, turns back around and HBK hits him with the sweet chin music against the chair to his face, sending him flying into the ambulance and ending the match.
Winner: Shawn Michaels

So we've got
AJ Styles vs. Terry Funk (Two of my all time favorites...damnit it sucks to see AJ go)
Bret Hart vs. The Undertaker
Raven vs. Owen Hart
Taz vs. Shawn Michaels (Dream match)

Theres bound to be so much controversy in this round...long live the wrestlezone tournament!

Thank the Lord. Thank the freaking Lord. The world's worst wrestler says goodbye. Prax is right on a lot of things, but come on. AJ may be a little over-rated, sure, but at least he knows more than one leg-drop, one boot and one right hand. Goodbye Mr Hogan.

Hey Shockmaster(great work on d tourney by d way), im kinda nu 2 this thing but what is d clockwork orange house of fun match????

Is it sum kinda hardcore match???

And to every1 else.....
Y is there so many people dissin hogan???
He couldnt b that bad. I mean he did win at least 12 world championships......so give him a break.
Yea i know its a ladder match but hes a legend.
He's got my vote anyways

Like I said before, if you were Vince would you want AJ styles advancing at MSG or the Hulkster? ;)

Thank you, someone with some common sense around here ;)

A House of Fun match is a TNA specialty match. It's a steel cage except there are weapons attached to the cage.

Thanks Prax.

And i couldnt agree more with u

Ya i had a real hard time with a lot of the Hogan v. AJ match types, and with it landing on the Ladder match, I had to go with AJ. I love Hogan to death, even though he is an arrogant asshole, but I cheer him everytime he comes out. And really with the creation of the whole Mr. McMahon persona, I think McMahon would screw Hogan the first chance he got. I could see Hogan reaching for the Briefcase and good ole Vinnie Mac with a low blow. They don't like each other and have never seen eye to eye recently, that's just my take.

Xfear brought up something interesting, but we'll only have one day to decide upon it. Should we drop the Scaffold Match and put the 3 Stages of Hell in it's place. I know a lot of people don't like the Scaffold Match Idea, so I'm open to changing it if you want. But we only have one day to decide that.

Ok, results for today.
WCW Region. The Georgia Dome

Match 1: A terrific matchup between two men that can control the crowd and two submission style wrestlers. This match between Flair and Jericho could go back and forth for a good 30 minutes before anyone finally takes the advantage. In the end, the Steel Cage match for Jericho finally takes a toll on his body, and Ric Flair makes Jericho utter those two words, I quit. Ric Flair advances with 65% of the vote.

Match 2: A man that really has dominated his way to this point, being the Rock, and a man that has had nothing but controversy follow him in his latest victory, Christian Cage. A Few years ago in a WWE ring this is a squash, but Cage has done enough to start turning some heads the last few years to gain himself some notoriety. Christian Cage somehow manages to beat the Rock Don Muraco and Round 3, and yes, Christian Cage manages to beat another guy named the Rock, in a huge Shocker, Christian Cage gets the win. Oh wait, it's 2 out of 3 falls, The Rock wins with 82% of the vote.

Match 3: An Inferno match was a little anti-climatic with the likes of Steve Austin and Chris Benoit. Much to my suprise watching the results coming in, Benoit took a huge lead, one I felt that was goign to be overcome. It evened out and finally, Steve Austin catches Chris Benoit on fire and moves onto the next round. Austin with 63%.

Match 4: Talk about two guys that are almost mirror images of one another. I remember the big stink a few summers ago was Brock coming back to face Batista, that has nothing on this matchup. Luger in his prime was an animal, Luger post career is just a murdering animal, but that's another issue. In this match no one gets a power advantage, but in the end, Lesnar proves that he is probably a little more scary then Luger, and he shuts the Casket Lid on Luger's Tournament Run. Brock with 78% of the vote.

So now we head further South to the Impact Zone in Orlando, Fl.
Match 5: Poor Jeff Jarret, had everything going in his favor. His Arena, his ring, his crowd, and bam, a giant 7 foot road block stands in his way to winning this tournament. How about the Big Show. Could this man get any luckier with his draws so far in this tournament. I think everyone realizes show isn't the greatest in ring performer, but his size and his very good moveset for a man his size, have garnered him respect I didn't think the IWC had for him. Like said before, being tied with a 10 foot biker chain to the big show is a death sentance. You could put Triple H or HBK up against him, and I still think Show walks out relatively easily. The Big Show ends Double J's run and eliminates the first number one seed from the tournament. Show with 82% of the vote.

Match 6: I think this match would be the show stealer of the night. Booker T vs. Rick Rude in a Briefcase on a pole. I think both guys are very athletic, and both were very underappreciated, and in some extent, still are underappreciated. This match goes back and forth as expected, but in the end, Ravishing Rick Rude by the narrowist of margins, takes down Booker T with 51% of the vote.

Match 7: What a big ugly matchup. You know Big Van Vader and Triple H are just going to beat the hell out of each other for 30 minutes. Vader isn't goign to try any submissions, he's just going to beat you until you cry for mercy. The Game is the Game however, and he lives off of the other guy making one mistake, and then making them pay for it. You knwo at some point, Triple H takes out Vaders knee and it's just a matter of time before either the Indian Death Lock, or Figure Four are applied. On a sidenote, does anyone remember when HHH busted the IDL out at WM19 and JR acted like it was the most viscous move ever? A little bit of over selling, but hey. Triple H wins this thing easily with 90%.

Match 8: Final matchup of the evening sees RVD taking on Eddie Guerrero in a 30 minute Iron Man Matchup. I wonder how much RVD wrestlign edge to a near draw the night before weighed in on people's opinions. In a six sided Ring, Latino heat takes down the Whole F'n Show with 60% of the vote. I'm very suprised with this match, because I thought RVD was a dark horse in this thing, but Latino Heat has now made himself a very dangerous player.

So these are the new matchups for round 5.

WCW Region: Two match types. Match depends on Coin Flip. The Triple Tier Tower of Doom or the 60 Minute Iron Man Matchup.
The Nature Boy Ric Flair vs. The Rock
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Brock Lesnar

TNA Region: Two Match Types. Match Depends on Coin Flip. Ultimate X or Monster's Ball.
The Big Show vs. Ravishing Rick Rude
Triple H vs. Eddie Guerrero

It's getting down to the end guys. Remember the next round is the last round of gimmick matches, so people will no longer be able to hide behind those matches.

You guys do realize that Hogan not only has to climb up a ladder, but also has to lift his arms up above his head (doubt that could happen). It would take him multiple minutes to get up the ladder, time that Styles would recover, you guys sure do like Hogan, but I could just NEVER see him competing in, let alone winning a ladder match. Now if this was a match of who could do the least moves. Hogan would have my vote.

Haha, I love reading Hogan bashing. Again I mark out for the guy, but some of the stuff people say are great. Nothing brings the best in people in wrestling forums out like Hulk Hogan, John Cena, Batista, Kevin Nash, and the Montreal Screw Job. You talk about any of those, and you're bound to get a ton of great one liners.

Anyways, I'm thinking about holding the tag team one off until summerslam time. So mid July we'll start and go until a day or so before Summerslam. I've got something else in mind to pass the time until then. It'll be in honor of the new Horsemen DVD coming out, so some people are probably going to get where I'm going with this thing.

Overnite, you might want to repost the link to the Wikipedia page, because it's a good 10 pages back now. Keep the newcomers up to date with what has happened so far.

Ultimate X is hosing somebody. If Show gets it well he finnaly goes home if Trips gets it dont see how he wins against Guerro in his prime who would have been a moster at it. On the other hand Show gets Monsters ball and ther eis no way Rude can win it

TNA Region: Two Match Types. Match Depends on Coin Flip. Ultimate X or Monster's Ball.
The Big Show vs. Ravishing Rick Rude
Triple H vs. Eddie Guerrero

Shockmaster, I personally am not a fan of the scaffold match. Remind me what the twin towers match is please. Go Tarheels!!!

In a Monster's Ball match, the wrestlers are confined in a dark room and locked up without food or water for 24 hours prior to the match. Then anything goes in the match. If Big Show gets this match, he will be so hungry he will actually eat Rick Rude during the match or at least try to get done quick so he can get to a birger joint ASAP. And even in an Ultimate X match I wouldn't count Big Show out, he can climb to the top and just grab the ropes and rip them off the supports, just something to think about, but that's just because I straight up love the Big Show, probably one of the best huge guys to set foot in the ring.

Actually by the rules established for Ultimate X the competitor must climb the ropes to get there and ladders would be illegal and by that same means your method of Show pulling down the ropes would be illegal

Actually, that is not an established rule. In my personal favorite Ultimate X match, the winner did not slimb across the suspended ropes and retrieve the belt as you said had to be done. In the match featuring AJ Styles, Petey Williams and Chris Sabin, AJ Styles won the match despite not climbing across the ropes to retrieve the belt and was awarded the belt and won the match. So I don't think that it is a MUST that you have to climb across the ropes.

Either way, I'm starting to like Big Show's chances more and more.

I think he has what it takes to take the whole tournament

Wikipedia said:
In professional wrestling, a Monster's Ball match is a no-disqualfication matchup that is contested between 3-4 wrestlers. This hardcore match staged by the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling promotion. The name is derived from the 2001 film Monster's Ball.

The key premise of the match is that all contenders are sequestered alone in a locked room without light, food or water for twenty-four hours before the match. This stipulation is intended to induce extreme feelings of aggression in the competitors. Once released, the wrestlers fight one another in a no disqualification match, with the usage of weapons encouraged. Victory can be achieved by pinfall or submission, with the match ending as soon as one wrestler is pinned or submits (there is no elimination format).

This is the Definition according to Wikipedia. And as to Jeff Hardy and Abyss, there was also Rhino and Sabu. It was Monsters Ball II that that match happened.

I like the heading on that quote. Originally posted by Wikipedia. Sorry, just made me laugh. Anyway, i'm back with my :twocents: once again. Prax has been proved wrong. Vince would totally screw Hogan, even if Hogan did manage to get a day pass out of the retirement home, and even if he did learn a fourth move, and even if his inflatable muscles were down enough for Hogan to get his arms above his head, because of the (on-screen) hatred these 2 guys have. Oh boy, this thing is heating up now. As Macho Man Randy Savage (or Jay Lethal) would say; OHHH YEEEEEAAAAAHHHH!!!

Now that's a rant.

EDIT: Oh and by the way, yeah 3 Stages instead of Scaffold works. And it's a shame either Big Show or Triple H is about to be screwed out of this tournament, as that would be a cracking Quarter-Final.
