WWE RAW LD 12/5/2012 - I'm a Little Bit Country

I'd like to know when everyone started turning on the Rock exactly and started deciding that John Cena was some sort of God on the microphone. His rap last night was silly and sophomoric and the only thing it can boast is solid delivery. Rock was bad, sure, but Cena wasn't far ahead. What I don't understand is why they're sticking Rock into these contrived situations. Just give him a microphone and let him go to town. This is his first bad promo since returning, and it's because the surrounding circumstances were just stupid. Not to mention they've already ran through all the material, because not only has this feud been building this year, but they already ran through all the good stuff last year. Seriously, we understand the relevant issues at hand already. We got it. You've done it - literally - a dozen times now.

Look, here's how you handle the next two weeks. Cena wrestles the Miz next week, Rocky does commentary, ends with Rocky jumping in the ring and staring down Cena to close the show. Next week, Rock wrestles Miz, Cena just sits ringside, no commentary. Afterwards they stare each other down and have the last promo to send everything off to Mania.

I'm sure instead they'll continue with inane promos that just keep saying the same goddamn thing endlessly with new and silly contrived premises.

I was a newbie to the whole Rock concert thing and I, personally, enjoyed it far more than Cena's rap. Maybe it gets boring the second or third time.

The words were put on the titantron so that the whole crowd could sing. That's what The Rock said. He wanted the last song to be sung by everyone. However, Rock himself didn't have a clue what the words were and it sucked. It wasn't supposed to suck. There wasn't a script in the back that said "do last song but make sure it sucks." It just plain sucked because it was a bad idea and it was performed even worse.

Shame people don't get how great an idea that was even though it probably turned out worse than they expected.

Kayfabe that is what the Rock said but let us do a reality check. Cena says the Rock has no substance and he just likes to get the crowd to chant his nonsense with him. Then next week the Rock comes out and tries to lead the crowd in a sing-a-long with the lyrics which they then shoot him reading from the titantron spelled out in karaoke style? That is hilarious but what makes it amazing is that no one even realizes it because they are so caught up in the conflict being real. I don't think WWE ever really thought the crowd would be able to follow along and the volume of the music would support that idea. They just wanted their shot and it was too good to pass up even if the pacing was going to be a stumbling block. The rest of the segment killed regardless.

Um what?

Dude, Rock's entire career on the mic has been "sing-a-long" as his catchphrases were known by everyone. Doing an actual sing-a-long wasn't much of a stretch and was an obvious nod to that. The idea was fine as it was a concert and at concerts people often sing with the artists (sometimes there are even screens with the words on them at actual concerts). That's all it was, but it was just performed poorly and the crowd themselves couldn't follow along either. It's live TV and sometimes things on live TV don't happen exactly the way you want them to. This is one of those times.

You haven't heard me criticize the rest of the segment much because it wasn't that bad. A little predictable, sure, but that's Rock's schtick and always has been. It's what made me a fan of his 13 years ago.

As I've said and I'll stick with this, neither man was awesome last night but this is the closest we've had as far as both men performing at a similar level. Unfortunately, it wasn't exactly the highest level either man should be able to get to.

The Rock concert just went too damn long, but that's lazy WWE creative right there. If that thing was about 10 minutes long, it would have been perfect. The Rock concert also would have worked better if the Rock was full on Hollywood Heel from 2003, but that's not happening.

This feud is losing steam though. Wrestlemania 28 started out pretty promising, but man alive something needs to happen to get this show somewhat interesting.

Jericho vs. Punk has been the only solidly built match on the card.

Cena vs. The Rock is just getting old and redundant at this point. At some point someone has to do something. I know they don't want those two interacting physically, but for fucks' sake, do something.

Undertaker vs. Triple H. The Hell in the Cell was all this thing needed, now we have reached over booking status. Should be a good match, but the HBK thing would have worked on it's own without the Cell.

DBD vs. Sheamus. Who gives a fuck at this point? There is no rivalry whatsoever with those two.

The WWE needs to step the intensity up. This isn't fucking Vengeance, this is damn Wrestlemania.

I don't know, from what it's worth, I enjoyed both Rock and Cena's bit. I thought it was good to see the Rock Concert again. Rocky seemed like he was enjoying himself,a bit more loose compared to the last few weeks. It was also a nice little throwback to see old school Cena. I don't know, what else can you really do when nobody is getting physical?

Just got around to watching Cena's rap. Probably Cena's worst showing since this feud began. Enjoyed the entrance but the content was a real head scratcher.

How do you figure? I mean, I agree it wasn't his best outing at all, but the content wasn't exactly confusing. It was no more or less innovative than Rock's songs. It was all more of the same from both those guys last night, except they sang instead of spoke, and channeled old characters that they played.

Rock most certainly didn't channel "Hollywood" Rock. He should have, though.

I didn't really see how Cena coming out full thug really fit the evolution of the story. The Rock is in his face last week and Cena is just goofing around and then he comes out this week by himself to rap and he was trying to be more hard than he has ever been. I think a more lighthearted approach is more consistent with his old character and would have provided better entertainment. The content just wasn't very good.
