In regards to the smackdown mccool/layla/mickie video:
Last night when I saw that I cried and I wanted to rip Michelle and Layla's heads off
That is pretty much why that video was shown. This is entertainment. The point of it all was to give mccool and layla heat by making everyone feel bad for mickie, and I believe it worked. Mccool and layla are the stereotypical "bitch" characters, and with a petition like this it seems that being called fat has a great impact on women. This is why the video was shown, to give them heat and make you want to see mickie kick their asses, which will surely happen. Good will triumph over evil in the end. (side note: with the WWE gearing programming toward kids why is cm punk as a heel doing promos against drugs and alcohol? I was watching that promo on smackdown and it almost seemed like r truth was telling kids to light up and get wasted, but im just rambling now)
I have seen women call each other worse things than "piggy" and those are usually the women who act like mccool and layla. Wrestling is a mirror of current society, and just as there are mean people (mccool/layla) there are also nice people like mickie. Thats why they are in conflict, heels vs babyfaces. The video was shocking to a lot of people, and it was meant to be to get people behind mickie and against layla and mccool.
If it was vince's intention to presumably call mickie fat just to throw it in her face then that would be wrong (and btw i dont think she is fat at all) but does anyone really know that? has anyone on here talked to vince and had him say "im going to embarrass mickie cause she has gained a pound or two"? If so, then he was wrong to do it, but if not then we dont REALLY know. An arguement could be to look at his track record which was listed in the first post, but there were others who didnt "fit the mold" and turned out fine. Chyna. she didnt fit the "mold" so to say, but she was a dominating force in the WWE. She held numerous titles including the IC title. She didnt fit the supermodel mold but I think she did great. Same with currently beth phoenix (well shes only been doing squash matches recently but still). She was dominating the womens division and she was not a joke either.
I think the biggest issue would be vince HIRING people that dont fit his mold. I have a quote from a reputable source saying "when vince looks for a new diva he opens a swimsuit catalog and says 'get me this one'". If vince really didnt want mickie around he would make up a bs excuse to get rid of her. He recently fired big daddy v for being too fat (I know the comparison is a stretch with big daddy being around 500 lbs and mickie around low 100's, but if vince wanted to he could make something up like the whole kennedy thing).
There are issues with guys too with body image, its not just girls, and the guys issues are more easily visible. If a guy isnt over 6 feet his chance to wrestle for wwe is limited. if he isnt super muscular, his chance is limited. Just look at jamie noble, his work is great but he just isnt big enough, so he has to job to many people including seamus who powerbombed him on the floor. jamie's expressions were great, he knows how to sell, he just isnt big enough. and the list goes on. and speaking of the weight issue, thats there too. Yokozuna, his finishing move was to sit on his opponent. Rikishi used it too, not to mention the stink face. it was presumed because he was fat that he had a smelly rear end. Is this wrong? I dont think so. They knew what they were getting into, especially being in show business, and enjoyed doing it. whats more, the fans loved them for it. and with this fat threat going on why has nobody stood up for the big show? he has been insulted many times, especially currently by hhh about his weight. personally I have no problem with it, it just mirrors society. on the playground when you were growing up, did the fat kid get picked on? most of you I would assume would answer yes. Is it wrong for him to be picked on because of his weight? OF COURSE ITS WRONG, but that is what's happening. the problem isnt vince, the problem is the media and society. WWE mirrors society but it IS NOT society, it is TV, WWE IS NOT REAL LIFE.
I know this has been way too long and someone will probably find something I said that contradicts itself but to sum it up: I think the video was fine and the main problem is with all media and society itself, not just vince.
