UWF: Mock Draft V

Guys, i am looking for some advice on how to present the show.

Remebering the last Mock Draft the results were presented in a very simple paragraph. It maybe detailed a highlight or two, the general story of the match and the ending (maybe in greater detail.)

This is what i want to do with my card, instead of writing blow - by - blow accounts of matches, (which for a battle royal that i want to go for over 40 minutes could be murder).

Is that OK? I intend on going into a lot of detail anyway but i dont know how you guys are planning on doing this.

So yeah, how have people written their shows? Summed every match up in a paragraph? Wrote it out move for move??

I didn't write it out move for move, I sort of had the high spots in the match written out and at the other points said something like, X controlled the beginning of the match, or X coninued to control the match. Move for move could get lengthy, but all the important spots are in there, just none of the boring stuff.

I think i have done it.

I have it pretty much as above. Pretty much detailed explaination of ending and a brief thing about what happened before.

The high spots are what people will be reading for, when you remember a match, do you remember from start to finish? Not usually. You remember the key points in the match.

This is pretty much how I've written mine out.

Anybody finished their shows yet? Any previews?

I have mine done, have for a while, have not written any previews yet though, maybe have one up by the end of the day.

I am having real trouble at the moment because I didn't draft my roster so most of them I don't know what long term fueds to start and build up. Any thoughts

All i can say is go with your gut feeling. Whatever you think will make the best longterm fueds, do them, just do it. I know it might be harder for you and Sam because you didn't draft your rosters, but I have faith that you guys can put together some good shows.

Everybody, again, please just make sure your shows are turned in on time. And a recommendation make sure that you create this show with an idea of what the next one will be like. The last one fell apart after the first show, so make sure dont use everything your first week!

Well one obvious one is Cena vs. Hogan, aren't you doing King of the Ring format, that shouldn't be that hard, your winner move on.

I take it this is your roster:
1. Hulk Hogan
2. John Cena
3. Vader
4. Goldberg
5. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper
6. Jake "The Snake" Roberts
7. Diamond Dallas Page
8. Booker T
9. Jeff Jarrett
10. Goldust
11. Billy Gunn
12. Road Dogg
13. Paul London
14. Brian Kendrick
15. Shelton Benjamin
16. Lex Luger
17. Ultimate Warrior
18. Charlie Hass
19. Dusty Rhodes
20. Jimmy Snuka

You have one of the best rosters in this thing. Good undercard workers, a mix of aerial and grounded workers. You have some of the biggest name workers in the history of the business and some of the best ever.

In my opinion, you should work towards either a Vader vs. Hogan finale, or Cena vs. Hogan finale. You can make very good use of Warrior, Luger, Roberts, and Piper in various feuds against one another. You have WGTT, NAO and Londrick which can provide some interesting tag matchups. I would start with Jarrett, Page, Snuka, Rhodes, and Booker with various feuds. And Goldberg can really fit in anywhere you want.

If I were using your roster, I'd built Vader as a total badass heel, Hogan as your top face, and build towards a Hogan vs. Vader main-event on your last card. I'd build towards a Hogan vs. Cena somewhere towards the middle of the shows.

I'd build towards a Roddy Piper vs. Cena match on the end, and Piper vs. Goldberg in the middle.

I'd build towards a final card match of Jake Roberts vs. Ultimate Warrior, and a middle of Warrior vs. Vader.

That's how I'd begin. You begin by figure out how you want to end, and then work backwards.

Alright, NBT, I'll help you out a little bit. I had a few things in mind, I"ll give you a couple of my original ideas:
1) The whole thing was meant to culminate with Hogan vs. Vader. By the last show, Vader and Hogan were going to be built up as unstoppable. Vader has the support of Jim Cornette, who has also arranged for several backups for Vader, including Big Bossman, who you dropped, and possibly Lex Luger. Luger and Bossman were originally going to start off fueding, and then work together once Cornette starts looking for "hired muscle".
Hogan and Cena were going to fued for the first couple of shows. I was thinking for the first show, have an ambiguous finish, so no-one knows who the winner is. This way, you could have a rematch in the card. Maybe one last match at the next show to hold you over. While all this is going on, Vader fueds with Goldberg, then probably Booker T, and maybe eventually Jake Roberts.

2)The whole point of Jeff Jarrett being the one that brought in the New Age Outlaws was so that he could avoid Booker T and Goldust, who were partners. First show would have seen Booker T and Goldust vs. The New Age Outlaws. Booker and Goldy get the win, Booker tries once more to get his hands on Jarrett, but finds that Jarrett has convinced Cornette that Booker vs. Vader would be a match everyine would want to see. Vader vs. Booker. Eventually, Jarrett can't hide any longer, and they face off, preferably for the midcard title. Now, Idk if you read my promos from before, but Booker made it clear to Goldust that thier reunion is a one time thing. They go thier own ways after Booker beats Jarrett. But Goldust is unstable. He still follows Booker T around, interferes in matches, etc. Booker finally gets in Goldusts face, which triggers a heel turn for Goldust, possibly switching to the Black Reign gimmick. Those two fued for the remainder.
3) Jeff Jarrett is all about getting the gold. He must have it around his waist. While Booker is busy with NAO, Jarrett tries to capture the midcard title. But someone stands in his way... Diamond Dallas Page. I'm thinking Jarrett cheats to win the title, DDP wants a rematch, but first we get a tag match, DDP and his former teacher Jake Roberts vs. Jeff Jarrett and the man who was originally going to fued with Roberts for an extended period of time, Roddy Piper.
4)The tag team division is pretty simple. Great teams, all wrestling for the tag team titles. Originally, my last two picks were going to be John Morrison and Joey Mercury, and have London and Kendrick vs. WGTT vs. MNM at the first show. Londrick get the straps. Once NAO is done with Booker and Goldust, they get into the tag title mix. You can mix the tag title matches any which way you want, but I thought I would have Londrick vs. NAO as the main tag fued, with MNM and WGTT(who would be a tweener team) fueding for No. 1 contendership. Maybe throw Luger and Bossman into the mix once they start teaming, although I see them more or less fueding with Goldberg for a while. The last show would see Londrick vs. NAO vs. MNM vs. WGTT in a TLC match for the titles.
HOWEVER, you messed up both the tag title scene AND the Booker T/Goldust/Jeff Jarrett fued by bringing in Dusty Rhodes and Jimmy Snuka. Dusty I can see sort of working out, if you have Goldust turn heel and have him face his father before Booker. It might be jumping the shark on the Booker/Jarrett payoff, but hey, what are ya gonna do?
Basically, My first card looked like this:

WFW World Heavyweight Championship Match
John Cena vs. Hulk Hogan

Jake "The Snake" Roberts vs. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper (most likely I would have made it a Strap or Texas Bullrope Death Match, or something along those lines)

WFW Intercontinental Championship
Jeff Jarrett vs. "Diamond" Dallas Page

Vader vs. Goldberg

Booker T and Goldust vs. The New Age Outlaws

Gauntlet Match to Determine the WFW Women's Championship (This was before we could draft both women AND managers)

"The Total Package" Lex Luger vs. The Big Bossman (but you can't do this because you dropped Bossman, so I assume you would make it Luger vs. Warrior... ugh.)

Three Way Elimination-style Match for the WFW Tag Team Championships
MNM vs. The World's Greatest Tag Team vs. Paul London & Brian Kendrick

Hopefully I've given you a few ideas... OR A WHOLE CARD.

Just a question, when you made your match card, where you thinking ahead. The KOTR format practically rights a couple matches for you, what you could do is either not have Vader or Hogan in it, one or the other and have the other one win it, then have the Vader vs. Hogan rivalry. Or if you want to have a Cena vs. Hogan, do the same with them, that is my idea.

When I was writing my card I assumed at least one other person would do a KOTR format and someone would do a Battle Royal, so I thought fuck it. I can write out five whole cards, it's not that difficult. Who wants to see battle royals and tournaments on PPV anyway? I think shows your creativity if you can come up with a good card on your own, from scratch. I managed to write out what , IMO, is a great card, 8 full matches, not a filler match in the bunch.

Sweet Jesus, this is gonna take some catching up on.

Just one comment from me: summaries rock! Will hopefully finish mine tomorrow.

I only did a battle royal to avoid a KOTR tourney like situation and i thought it would be a good way to introduce the both the brands champion and the Corporate Alliance storyline i have got going on. I like my first show but my second and third ones could actually rock!!

Thats why i am glad we are doing the votes on a league basis.

I wouldn't say KOTR and Battle Royals suck, you have to start a show somehow and that is a good way to do it. They prevent you from using all of your fueds right away, I am not doing one, but I understand why people would.

Deadline is approaching, I think I will post my show Saturday, I dont want to post it too early, but it is done. I will probably post a summary/preview later today, but it wont be anything special.

Preview will come tomorrow, maybe the card too, but this will do for now...
