Many of the first states to finish voting are those designated as safe for Romney, or those that are so close (Virginia) that the winner won't be immediately clear. That means Obama may be stuck at three points for the next hour or so, while Romney's tally climbs.

If Obama wins New York, which he will, it would swing to 32-24.

Exit polls. Also it's pretty easy to guess a lot of the states, so once they combine the exit polls with what they had coming in, it's pretty easy to come to a conclusion.

Yep. California + New York would get Obama 84 electoral votes, or over 30% of the needed total for the Presidency. That's how he catches up. That and places like Michigan and Wisconsin. The biggest thing Romney has so far is Indiana, which isn't a big place at all.

Things are looking pretty tough for Romney in Florida as well.

Romney winning Texas, which he likely will, gets him 38 votes which helps offsets New York's 29 but nothing touches California's 55.

Romney needs Massachusetts, but its going to be a tough fight even with it being his home state.
