Posters That Put You Over

This thread hasn't been done in a while, so it's only fitting we do it now.

If you consider yourself an established member of this board, which posters put you over?

I'm gonna give credit to four people. Even though we had a falling out later on, no one encouraged me more as a noob poster than Will. He hasn't been on in a while and he lost a lot of popularity once he stepped down as a mod, but he was a damn good poster when he modded. Here's hoping that him and his wife are doing well.

The second poster is Jake. I don't think I have ever been so in awe of a forum poster in my life. Thankfully, we actually got along and he helped me a lot as a noob.

The last two are IC and NorCal. Now, although I respect the hell out of these guys now, to say that we didn't get along at first is an understatement. Part of this was misunderstanding, part of this was real dick moves on my part, especially in the case of IC. However, no publicity is bad publicity, and I know the shit shows that I had with these two guys made me more well-known. Many, many belated thanks to both of you gentleman.

He pretty much gave me the confidence to post around these parts and assured me that I was a good enough poster to hang around. Plus he just eased me into to conversing with the regulars around here.

Definitely IC and Echelon. That's not to say I'm all that "over" in the first place, but I guess I am an established poster as I've been on here a while. When I first began posting here, I felt pretty anonymous. Some of my posts were pretty good, I'm sure plenty weren't, and the majority were likely somewhere in the middle. But these were the first two guys who I recall having extended discussions with who made me feel like I was able to hold my own with some of the "big dogs" of the forums, guys who seemed to notice my posts and gave me positive feedback about them.

Honorable mention to Tenta (too bad he's not here anymore) and Slyfox. Tenta encouraged me to take part in the Debater's League years ago when other guys were dropping out, telling me he felt I could hold my own with the best of them. While that was likely an overstatement, at least it encouraged me and I was able to translate that into success in the Debater's League last year. And Slyfox is a guy who I've debated with a number of times and I feel that as maddening an adventure as that can be, I at least have been able to keep up my end of the discussion for the most part with him.

Definitely Habs, Dagger, and Monkey. Especially back in the day. Falkon too, and more recently given our past work in WZCW. JGlass, Doc, and Harth have all put me over in the past, and recently behind the scenes with Mitch and LSN.

Norcal - Threaten me physical harm if I didn't stick around during a WWECW LD.

Lee - Got me interested in WZCW then brought me on board Creative.

X - Helped my Hip Hop thread out tremendously. I was sort of established at the time but having X participate in it made it that much better.

KB with OCW, NorCal took a liking to me pretty early on, and Phoenix added me to the WZCW Creative team. Those would be my 3.

Define "put you over". Right now I see a lot of people listing people they respect, but not necessarily people who "went to bat" for them, which is how I interpret being put over.

I can actually tell how each person put me over.

NorCal was the first person to notice my posts. I wrote a few Raw reviews and he told me that my reviews were better than his, and that really meant a lot. I think he started to mention my name around the forums at that point and if nothing else, he gave me a lot of confidence in my posting.

IC25 reached out to me via PM after seeing me post around and offered me a spot in the I.C.E program. Just being associated with IC is enough to put anyone over, but he also helped me with my posting and definitely went to bat for me (along with NorCal and possibly D-Man) in getting me modded.

Coco got me over in The Cage/Bar Room, no question. The Glass Ass thread is the second most posted in thread on this entire site, and Coco was the one who started it and has been a consistent contributor throughout its existence. He also talked me into joining WZCW, and now I'm on the creative team.

Doc got me over in WZCW as well as with certain members of the forum I wasn't as friendly with until Doc and I started working together on the BZT. Of all the legendary team-ups in forum history (Sly and KB, IC and D-Man), Doc and JGlass might be the most underrated.

I've met and become good friends with 3 of those 4 people. Still waiting on Coco.

Don't know if anybody has put me over per say, but if so I'd have to give some credit to JAM here. He randomly PM'ed me one day about starting up a Book This thread and he helped me improve my horrible grammar there. Theo and GCB probably get some credit here as well.

I know I wouldn't say I'm "over" like anyone else who has posted in here but if I ever do eventually get over and rid myself of my negative reputation I think I'd owe a lot of it to LSN.

We occasionally PM and leave rep comments to each other talking about forum stuff and how to work on my posts and how I can improve. We've never really called it a mentorship but I definitely consider him my mentor and somebody who has really tried to help my posts a lot.

Edit: Also would be unfair not to mention how KB convinced Sly to put me back on the boards from the Prison. From what I've been told I would have been banned had it not been KB sticking his neck out for me.
