Learning How To Let Go

Why would mods need to drive discussion after the hottest night of the year for WWE? New users are making the topics first.

Last Monday, there was a wave of insanity. Topics being made left right and center. No staff member needed to "drive discussion" because it was already being driven. It was up to KB, Ty, and I to beat back the spammers. And the guy who made 13 alts just so he could crack Benoit jokes.

TWO HOURS OF INFRACTIONS

IN THE SNOW!!

Why would mods need to drive discussion after the hottest night of the year for WWE? New users are making the topics first.

Again, I think the point is being missed.

It seems to me (especially after two staff members are now saying this) that a possible feeling within the Staff is.. "Why post? Plenty of others do it for us."

So, I re-ask the question. If anyone on Staff feels this way, then why should you be on Staff? What purpose do you serve, thats better than the average new-comer? They're actually doing more than you, if you use this very logic.

Clean-up duty, posting elsewhere. A mod's job is to drive discussion wherever possible. I don't mutually hang out in the Graphics section. I feedback, I merge, I clean up, I fill requests, but I also love to post wrestling and videogames and Bar Room (;)).

The thing is, it's not "Hey, someone else will make the topics first, why bother". It's "Someone else already made the topic. Darn.". The regular users are getting to it before the mods can.

Also, I don't like to make obvious topics. I like to make threads that make people think. Unfortunately that doesn't always equal lots of replies, but at least I'm proud of the threads I make. I rarely make them because it takes me a while to get a good idea. They usually just hit me out of nowhere, you see.

I guess for the power of infracting or warning posters or something like that.

What exactly considers one to be put on staff? Does post count or length of time matter because I've seen posters join a couple of months ago that I consider some of the best and really drive discussion.

Longevity means a good bit. We don't want someone put on that posts a ton for a few months and then just disappears.

Doc, being the Graphics mod I can understand you can't exactly drive discussion in that area. :lmao: To be honest, you weren't one of the individuals I was referring to.

If anything, wasn't it you that added a bunch of new "how to" guides on using photoshop and putting images together and stuff? (I can't remember who did it, but I think it was you.)

Anywho - if it was, then you of all people have went above and beyond and are doing just fine at posting.

I also get the clean-up, merge, and all that. Its likely what kept CM on Staff for as long as he was. (Same with Luther, for that matter)

The thing is, it's not "Hey, someone else will make the topics first, why bother". It's "Someone else already made the topic. Darn.". The regular users are getting to it before the mods can.

So.. because someone else started the thread, the next general feeling is "well, its already been started.. *sigh* now I'm depressed I didn't get to it first, so I simply won't post in this thread."

I'm sure thats a dramatic view of the situation, but once again its how it sounds.

I see endless threads people create, with very little if ANY mod involvement in posting at all. Once again, people on this forum value what Staff says. They look at you guys as a way to better their posting skills. But its hard to do that, when they see little to nothing of it.

Which is another reason why I made sure to disinvolve Klunder. His reviews are about the only thing I even find remotely worth reading of any of the Staff. (Along with Tdig & X's movie reviews, when they do them.)

Also, I don't like to make obvious topics. I like to make threads that make people think. Unfortunately that doesn't always equal lots of replies, but at least I'm proud of the threads I make. I understand the its hard to come by great ideas, and you don't wanna start random stupid threads. And again, you weren't one of the individuals I was referring to - because I often see you posting in threads, even if you didn't start them.

Its other members of Staff that I never see posting where it counts.

NorCal, out of all the Staff - you know I look at you as better than the rest, for personal reasons. Right? And on this note, wasn't it you, yourself, who just recently posted in the Fantasy WZ section that you didn't have the time to contribute to that because "you have an awesome/amazing life"?

If you, yourself, admitted to not having the proper time to give.. why are you still on Staff??

you forgot the backslash!!

awesome life / wrestling mod. I do still post wrestling, and I do still mod wrestling. As far as the fantasy league, um hello, I did step down, I gave the thing over to Lee, which is what that thread was about?

Hello?

So I'm just going to take a wild shot in the dark and guess that you still have a grudge against CM, and want to call random staff members out because of various incidents that happened a rather long time ago, all the while telling people to let things go.

No love for Dave?

Back during the time I was given a spot. It was more along the lines of..

(Me)- "Hey Jake, I got an infraction for this. Can you help me out with how I can avoid them?"
(Jake)- "Uh, don't do what you did. Add more and stuff."
(Me)- "Okay, good to know, how'd you become staff? Seems fun."
(Jake, 1 month later)- "A mod spot opened up, you talk a lot, wanna join?"
(Me)- "Sure."

Now I think it falls more into the likes of..

(Staff)- "Do we like this guy?"
(Staff)- "Yes"
(Staff)- "Then lets give him a spot."

Mainly because as it was once pointed out, you have to have unity.

Longevity means a good bit. We don't want someone put on that posts a ton for a few months and then just disappears.

Actually, that seems like the perfect formula for the current breed. :lmao: Only not months, more like days and weeks.

Remember that one poster that Shocky was in love with because they posted like 50 times in a day or something? Then kinda just.. stopped. lol

I made the first ones. :p Though you've been fairly excellent in that section since I took over and I owe you a lot for helping me out with feedback and tutorials.

Shout out to TPP, as well. Without them the place wouldn't be as active as it is right now.

Hello?

Buddy, the last time you posted something wrestling-related in a non-spam section was 5/30. In the WZ Tournament. The last time you posted something non-spam, wrestling-related, outside of that tournament.. even longer back.

Thats over a week and a half ago. And the thing is, you've been on almost every single day posting non-stop in spammy sections. (nothing wrong with that though, mind you, just pointing it out.)

If you want to believe so, sure. You'd be an idiot for doing so, but I'd be okay with that.

A WEEK AND A HALF??? Well FUCK, I may as well just quit the forum!! My goodness!!

Those two LDs I did this week and the two ill be doing at the end of the week must be a figment of my wild, wild imagination. I suppose those aren't wrestling shows.

LDs = spam section. You'd think for a mod, you'd have knew that. ;)

Yeah, that LD didn't drive enough discussion, Norcs.

I mean, it only got almost 400 posts for an NXT LD...
