The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past - A Walkthrough with Dagger

Enemy Spotlight: Beamos

10703797_10100253843752436_725949715824001962_n.jpg

They look like green trashcans with an eye that shoots lasers at you if it sees you. There's nothing you can do but avoid these guys, unfortunately. If they see you they will keep shooting lasers at you until you die. Try to avoid them and do not let them see you. If they do, get out of their line of sight. Beamos cannot be defeated at all in this game unlike in later titles of the series. They show up in almost every temple so get used to avoiding them. You do not have much of a choice.

Upon entering the temple some Green Leevers will emerge from the sand to attack you. If you do not defeat them fast enough they go down into the sans again but you can defeat them the next time they try to come up to attack you. North of them is a new enemy, a Beamos. These show up in pretty much every other temple for the rest of the game and you cannot kill them so try to avoid them. Go to the right of the Beamos and lift the jars. Go up. You'll find a Red Devalant who shoots fireballs from a hole in the sand. You can defeat him with little trouble using your sword attacks. North of that is a room where you will encounter more Green Leevers as well as Red Leevers who are faster and two Green Eyegores. Defeat the monsters if you want. Step on the switch under the jar north of the torches in the middle of the room to reveal the chest that has this temple's Map in it!

10659396_10100253850214486_8749298070054448129_n.jpg

That stupid Eyegore woke up right as I took the screenshot....

Take the left exit from the room you got the map in. Take a left, defeat the Red Devalant if you want to. Another Red Devalant as well as several Leevers both red and green await in the next room. There's two doors. Go north first. See the key on top of the large torch? Use the Pegasus Boots to run into it and knock it off the torch, be careful so that the Beamos does not see you. Go back and go through the door on the left. It leads to a Beamos surrounded by jars. He can still see you if you get within his line of sight! The jars are in a circular formation. Step on the switch on the jar just above the one furthest left. Inside the room to the north you will find this temple's Big Chest! You need the Big Key to open it, so you'll have to come back.

Make your way back to where you got the map but instead of going back in that room, take a right. There are some more Leevers and a Red Devalant to defeat here. Do not go in the room to the north. It just makes you defeat more Red Leevers and a Red Devalant to re-open the door. You get nothing for defeating them. Go south. You'll see more Leevers and a Blue Devalant.... and a locked door! Use your key to open the door. Inside is a Beamos and many Serpents. Open the chest to get this temple's Compass!

1794823_10100253862280306_113468209092600045_n.jpg

If you have both the Map and the Compass you should now be able to see.... This:

10460778_10100253862275316_2580915166086303974_n.jpg

The boss is on the 2nd Floor. You'll be there sooner than you think. This is actually than the Eastern Palace to me. Defeat the Serpents to open the door on the north wall. Go inside.

Defeat the Serpents to open the door on the north wall. Go inside. In here I recommend that you immediately use the Pegasus Boots to run up to the top of the room. Green things on the wall are shooting bowling balls from both the left and right walls, this way you should be able to avoid them. Open the chest at the top of the room to get this temple's Big Key!

1011074_10100253865009836_8645424358458766817_n.jpg

There is another room to the south of here if you'd like to go there. Go to the room south of the path that led you to the Big Key. A Beamos is in here and south of him is an exit taking you to the right entrance.... Which actually cannot be used as an official entrance to the temple. It takes you down into the desert if you jump. This doesn't serve much of a purpose, as you can just as easily leave using the the left entrance. More on the left entrance, you'll be using it to exit this floor of the temple in a moment. Now make your way back to the Big Chest and open it using the Big Key. You'll get the Power Glove!

Item Spotlight: Power Glove

1924859_10100253869825186_707124689926929792_n.jpg

This allows you to life the light colored rocks on the overworld map. Lift them using the A button. You still will not be able to lift the dark ones without the Titan's Mitt upgrade, though.

Go back the way you came and now go south. There is a door leading left on the bottom part of the hall. Defeat the Devalants and Leevers if you want on the way. In the next room is another Beamos. Move the block third from the left downward to open the door. Inside are fairies! Go south from the Beamos to exit the temple. This is actually the left entrance, out of three entrances to this floor of the temple. Be careful to not jump down into the desert or else you will have to go through that whole first area again. Go south along the cliff and you'll find a heart piece!

10518832_10100253874201416_1908236570683623026_n.jpg

Now go north. You will see some rocks that you'll be able to lift using the Power Glove. Behind them is the entrance to the upper floor of the temple. The boss is waiting upstairs, so let's go defeat him.

Enemy Spotlight: Tile

1903998_10100253877978846_2376629882912533966_n.jpg

Some temple rooms have monsters posing as floor tiles that chase you until a certain number have been defeated. Sometimes you are forced to defeat the Tiles in order to solve a puzzle. They are not tough to defeat but they are frustrating.

Another Beamos guards the room you first walk into. Go to the triangle formation of blocks on the right side and push the middle one downward to open the door. Go inside. You will see a locked door and jars. Eventually the floor tiles come to life and try to attack you. Avoid them for now, these are monsters called Tiles who show up in many temples. The jar in the bottom left corner has a key you can use to go upstairs.

Once upstairs follow the path defeating some Serpents along the way, avoid any Beamos as best you can. You'll see some torches but you do not need to light them. Find the key to unlock the door to the north under the jar third from the left by the locked door. Use the key to go inside the next room. There's Tiles in here so try to avoid them while lifting the jars in the corners of the room. One of them has the next key. Use it to open the door north of you. There's a Red Eyegore in here shoot him with your arrows when his eye opens. Light each of the four torches in the room using your Lantern. A spider door is revealed which leads to the boss of this temple, the Lanmolas! You can open the spider door because you already had the Big Key from the lower floors. Make sure you have fairies or red/blue potions in case your health gets low during this battle.

BOSS BATTLE: Lanmolas x3

There are three of them and they make rocks shoot out of the sand as they emerge to try to attack you. Use your sword attacks on them while they leap, but be careful to not get hit. I also like to stand by the spots you can see one about to emerge from and use the Whirlwind attack (hold down B then release when ready) to hit pne of them right as he jumps out. Arrows, Bombs, and the Ice Rod will work on them too but the sword is your best option here, especially if you use the Whirlwind attack when they jump out. Bombs have to be timed just right since a Lanmola could leap in a completelt different direction than where you placed the Bomb. Arrows you have to face the right direction and hope he is not leaping out of range. The Ice Rod might use up too much of your Magic Meter if you try to attack them using that. I'd stick with using your sword in this fight. No risk of running out of ammo or depleting your magic meter. Use a fairy or a red/blue potion to restore your hearts if you get down too low on health. When only one Lanmola remains he will shoot rocks in 8 directions instead of just 4. Be a little more careful here. Once he's defeated, you win a Heart Container and the Pendant of Power.

Item Spotlight: Pendant Of Power

This is the 2nd of the 3 Pendants you need in order to get The Master Sword.

Next will be some side quests to get optional items before the next temple, The Tower Of Hera!

Now we will get some more optional items. The first one we need is Zora's Flippers. I hope you have been saving up rupees, you are about to spend a ton of them. Go to the Magic Shop and lift the light colored rock to the right of the shop to get to a new screen. Dash using the Prgasus Boots to get past the clusters of rocks or.... whatever those things are.... Follow the path defeating Buzzblobs on the way if you want to and go north into the watery area. You'll be in the home of the Zoras. From the entrance to the Zora area, make your way north. Avoid or defeat the Zoras who attack you. Keep going north and you'll get to a fork in the road. Go south and you'll see three paths you can take toward the right, pick the furthest one down and head right in the shallow water on that path. You'll get to a waterfall and King Zora shows up. Tell him you want the flippers and he offers to sell them for 500 rupees. You have to agree to this, it's the only way to get them.

NPC Spotlight: King Zora

10698398_10100254906492696_2579991701306218550_n.jpg

He sells you the Zora Flippers for 500 rupees. That's pretty much all he does. He's also much bigger than any other Zora in the game.

Item Spotlight: Zora Flippers

10305183_10100254906886906_7787306626172011395_n.jpg

These allow you to swim! You can swim through deep water and dive into warp whirlpools. Use the A button to swim faster. They cost a ton of rupees, that's the only bad thing about them though....

Enemy Spotlight: Zora

10430369_10100254904955776_2090002215947584466_n.jpg

They are not as friendly as the Zoras from later titles in the series. They shoot fireballs at you from in the water and some of them show up in shallow water. The shallow water ones walk after you and make a very weird face when you attack them with your sword. They are stunned while they make the weird face, you can pick them up and throw them in the water at this point or defeat them. If you throw a shallow water Zora into a deep water Zora it can defeat the deep water Zora.

South of where King Zora was you will find a waterfall you can jump down. Do this, and then go onto the grassy path to your left. It leads to a heart piece. You should now have 8 hearts.

10703563_10100254907879916_1296100494768325871_n.jpg

Your next stop since you have the flippers is directly to the left of the Zora area. Go swim under the waterfall and enter it through the middle.

10614378_10100254910659346_8466010007632246690_n.jpg

When you are inside approach the pool of water. The game asks if you want to throw an item in. When you do, a fairy appears and asks you if the item she found is yours. Be honest with her and you might receive something better in return such as free green potion or an item upgrade....

10639631_10100254911168326_2370223112315681325_n.jpg

Throw the Fighter Shield or Boomerang in to get them upgraded. This only works once per item. Leave and go back inside after upgrading one to upgrade the other. You can also fill an empty bottle with free green potion if you want by throwing an empty bottle into the pool. The fairy fills it with green potion for free, but I still say you should go to the magic shop and buy blue potion instead.

Item Spotlight: Magic Boomerang

1781906_10100254911807046_5304222643610455150_n.jpg

This works just like the blue one only it is faster, has longer range, and has a shiny red graphic. You can no longer use the blue one once you get this upgrade, but it's better in every way.

Item Spotlight: Red Shield

10614155_10100254915484676_3098544780018973054_n.jpg

This upgrade to the Fighter Shield can withstand fireballs. You will not get access to another upgrade until The Mirror Shield late in the game.

One more optional item remains before we move forward. Go back the way you came in order to get to the waterfall and Zora area. Past the Magic Shop and south to the bridge near Link's house. Go right and follow the cliff above the water until you find a ladder you can clim down into the water with. Jump down into the water and swim back to the screen where the bridge was. Swim under the bridge. Some dude who apparently knows you is camping down there asleep by his tent. When you wake him up he gives you the third of four bottles in the game! He goes back to sleep after that.

10678739_10100254916597446_2461645766120116289_n.jpg

Next time we'll pick up with Death Mountain and the Tower of Hera!

NPC Spotlight: Hoarder

10454296_10100256190893746_8096511382508415740_n.jpg

These guys hide under foliage or rocks. When you lift the object they hid under, the hoarder starts throwing rupees. Do not attack the hoarder because it will kill him and he eventually dies anyway. You can get some free rupees this way so always try to lift a hoarder's hiding place if you see one. It's usually the green rupees, sometimes blue, and in very rare occassions I have gotten red rupees from Hoarders before.

To get to Death Mountain, start by going to the Sanctuary. You should know how to get there by now. On your way there stop by the Magic Shop to fill up your bottles with blue potion if any are empty. Starting from the Sanctuary, go left. On the following screen go north. Defeat the Buzzblobs, guards, and crows along the way. You might find a hoarder if you haven't already seen one by now. There is a cave on the right with a large rock by it. You can lift that rock now that you have the Power Glove! Do that and go inside even though the sign says to not go in without the king's permission.

In the cave, jump down and go right until you get to the fork, then north and right again. You will meet a lost old man. He asks to follow you. You cannot dash as fast with the Pegasus Boots with lost old man following you. Follow his directions and you will reach the outside. He tells you that he has a granddaughter your age. Once outside you will see some Deadrocks. Go to the right and you will be at the Mountain Cave where the lost old man stays for the rest of the game. He gives you the Magic Mirror!

Go inside and talk to the Lost Old Man. He restores your hearts. You will now be able to start off from The Mountain Cave if you want, the next time you re-load your game file.

NPC Spotlight: Lost Old Man

10622940_10100256202036416_1392790284233131097_n.jpg

The Lost Old Man needs your help to get out of the cave leading to Death Mountain. When you get to the Mountain Cave he gives you the Magic Mirror. When he is following you, you cannot run as fast using the Pegasus Boots which is a little annoying.

Item Spotlight: Magic Mirror

10610627_10100256204885706_1448878103438790295_n.jpg

This very useful item allows you to warp back to the Light World from the Dark World. The warp will not work if you end up on a spot Link cannot normally stand on in the Light World, such as a wall. If the warp worked, you are back on the Light World map until you step into the shiny point that appears on the map where you warped. It has a function in temples too. Use the Mirror in a temple to warp back to the entrance room of the temple! This can get you out safely if you feel overwhelmed.

Enemy Spotlight: Deadrock

10583934_10100256208952556_6055130368498704821_n.jpg

Normally these are invincible. If you attack them they turn to stone for a brief moment, then turn back to normal. The only way to defeat them is to use the Magic Powder on them to turn them into a slime, which can then be defeated normally.

You can either go through the rest of this cave, or go back out onto the Death Mountain map. Large green boulders fall down on the path and I'd rather avoid those so let's go through the cave. It's very straightforward and other than a couple of bats is rather harmless, unlike those boulders which can be hard to avoid. You end up on the Death Mountain map a bit further up than the entrance to the Mountain Cave. Go left to find a LONG set of stairs next to a cave. This cave takes you back down to the rest of the Overworld map, so don't go in there yet. Walk up the steps and go to the right. How about a heart piece, would you like to find another heart piece? Stand exactly where Link is standing in the screenshot below and jump down.

10686928_10100256234291776_6262619209699531915_n.jpg

Enter the cave you jumped down to. Go up the stairs, and in the upper room you will find a heart piece!

10431485_10100256236257836_1164670908491110885_n.jpg

Jump down the hole south of the heart piece. To your right are some fairies. Go left and you will see some Moldorms. Defeat them or ignore them and exit through the south door. Jump down from the cliff and walk back up the long stairway. Go to the right of the spot you jumped from to get to the heart piece's cave. You'll find a blue warp tile, step on it to enter the Dark World for the first time, and.... you get turned into a Rabbit!?
