Final Fantasy 4 Walkthrough with Dagger

Party combination #63: Cecil, Rydia, Kain, Yang, Edward

Keep Rydia and Edward in the back row. You'll have a good line of defense from the three fighters, but this group will struggle in the end. This, like all of the other parties that do not have a party is inevitably going to suffer in the final battle from that issue.

Recommended Formation
Cecil, Yang, and Kain in the front row. Edward and Rydia in the back row.

Damage potential is higher than pretty much any other party. You have the three best attackers and the two offensive casters. Guess what though? No healer. You will have to rely on relentless offensive tactics to succeed. It can be done, but at very high levels and even then it will be tough.

Recommended Formation
Cecil, Yang, and Kain in the front row. Palom and Rydia in the back row.

An excellent party with every needed role filled. You have the three best attackers to protect your healer and offensive caster. There's a recipe for success. I recommend this one. It's not the very best combination, but it's an effective one that you might have fun with playing as.

Recommended Formation
Cecil, Yang, and Kain in the front row. Porom and Rydia in the back row.

Overall Thoughts
Very Good.

This is a strange party. The three best defenders are there to protect Edward and Rydia, but you won't have a healer in the party. Your main strategy will be to keep Rydia alive long enough to cast her most powerful spells to finish every enemy off quickly. This party will struggle but can possibly pull off a victory at high levels.

Recommended Formation
Cecil, Cid, and Kain in the front row. Edward and Rydia in the back row.

A party who most monsters should be terrified of. The two offensive casters are in it and offered the best line of defense possible. At high levels this group can get the job done, but toward the very end not having a healer ultimately hurts it. Keep your casters alive long enough to finish everything off with their deadly magic, that is your best bet. Try the group out if you want a challenge from not having a healer. This is one of the better groups for that.

Recommended Formation
Cecil, Cid, and Kain in the front row. Palom and Rydia in the back row.

A balanced party that has every role filled. The three best defenders are in it to take care of the fighting and protecting the casters. You have an offensive caster and a healer. This is a party certainly worth trying.

Recommended Formation
Cecil, Cid, and Kain in the front row. Porom and Rydia in the back row.

Overall Thoughts
Very Good.

Party combination #69: Cecil, Rydia, Kain, Edward, Palom

Not one that I would recommend. Cecil and Kain may be the two best defenders, but not even they can make up for this party not having a healer. Edward has to be in the back row to be useful and the two offensive casters need to be protected. The damage potential is up there at least, so there's that. Keep everyone alive as best you can, but you'll struggle.

Recommended Formation
Cecil and Kain in the front row. Palom, Edward, and Rydia in the back row.

Overall Thoughts
Bad.

Party combination #70: Cecil, Rydia, Kain, Edward, Porom

This is a unique party that, oddly enough, can get the job done. Edward offers a different element to the party by not filling the traditional fighter/caster/healer role by still being able to fight in the back row. Rydia is your offensive caster, Porom your healer, lastly of course the two best defenders Cecil and Kain provide a protective line of defense. I recommend trying this group at least once. It's not the best combination out there, but it's balanced enough to almost reach the quality of the groups under the "Very Good" ranking, it is just shy of missing that point.

Recommended Formation
Cecil and Kain in the front row. Edward, Porom, and Rydia in the back row.

Overall Thoughts
Good.

This is a dream lineup for those who prefer magical offensive to fighting. A healer, both offensive casters, and the two best defenders to provide protection. I personally prefer teams with more fighters, but this is not a bad lineup at all. I'd recommend it. If you want a team with offensive casting as its focal point, this is one for you.

Recommended Formation
Cecil and Kain in the front row. Palom, Porom, and Rydia in the back row.

Overall Thoughts
Good.

Party combination #72: Cecil, Rydia, Edge, Yang, Cid

paladinv.png

The number of fighters in this party along with Rydia makes them lethal in terms of damage potential, although the absence of a healer or even Kain means it will suffer more difficulty than other more balanced parties would. An extremely large amount of offense can only take you so far. The lower defense stats of Edge and Yang will hurt the group. Plus you'd need to be able to keep Rydia alive long to be able to keep casting her spells. A fun party, but far superior groups are available.

Recommended Formation
Cecil, Cid, and Yang in the front row. Edge and Rydia in the back row.

Party combination #73: Cecil, Rydia, Edge, Yang, Edward

Yeah, this party sucks. No healer and too many people with low defense stats. Yang can take damage, but not enough to be the only other front line fighter with Cecil in this group. Edge is better off in the back row, as is Edward, and Rydia will eventually need healing. This group is in big trouble if you take them into the final battle.

Recommended Formation
Cecil and Yang in the front row. Edge, Edward, and Rydia in the back row.

Overall Thoughts
Bad.

Party combination #74: Cecil, Rydia, Edge, Yang, Palom

Not that great of a group. They can potentially be a deadly party in terms of attacking and offensive casting but Rydia, Palom, Edge, and to a lesser extent Yang as well all have low enough defense stats for this group to run into problems. You'd be better off bringing a healer or even someone like Cid or Kain in Edge's place to provide a better line of defense. I'd pass on trying this group honestly.

Recommended Formation
Cecil and Yang in the front row. Edge, Palom, and Rydia in the back row.

Overall Thoughts
Bad.

Party combination #75: Cecil, Rydia, Edge, Yang, Porom

Now this is a more balanced group. It has fighters, a healer, and an offensive caster. Porom will be busy keeping everyone alive while all four of the others are more than capable of finishing the monsters off. This group is worth a try.

Recommended Formation
Cecil and Yang in the front row. Edge, Porom, and Rydia in the back row.

Overall Thoughts
Good.

Party combination #75: Cecil, Rydia, Edge, Cid, Edward

Not a big fan of this combination's usefulness even though I do find it to be an interesting lineup. Cecil and Cid should be able for the most part to protect the rest, but toward the very end it will get difficult. The lack of a healer being the big reason, although the inclusion of both Edward and Edge as back row fighters adds something different that is not seen in many of the other parties.

Recommended Formation
Cecil and Cid in the front row. Edward, Edge, and Rydia in the back row.

Overall Thoughts
Bad.

While it's often fun to have both of the offensive casters, you'd be better off with a healer in this group. It helps that you have Cid to assist Cecil with the front row fighting as Edge should remain in the back row with the casters. You'll run into some difficulty at the last few floors and in the final battle, even at very high levels. Ultimately I do not recommend it.

Recommended Formation
Cecil and Cid in the front row. Palom, Edge, and Rydia in the back row.

With the inclusion of both a healer and an offensive caster, the fighters in this group complete the list of needed roles. Edge can fight from the back row if you wish, but since you have a healer and two of the best defenders he will be quite safe in the back row. You might have fun with this one, still not quite at the "Very Good" rating, although I'd try it out.

Recommended Formation
Cecil and Cid in the front row. Porom, Edge, and Rydia in the back row.

Overall Thoughts
Good.

Four out of the five have awful defense stats and no healer. This group sees Edge get forced into the front row out of necessity. Edward and the casters need protection more than him and he can take more damage than them. Terrible party that is not worth wasting any time trying.

Recommended Formation
Cecil and Edge in the front row. Edward, Palom, and Rydia in the back row.

Overall Thoughts
Very Bad.

You have a healer, but still are stuck with a group that has four members who need back row protection and are only to provide it to three of them. Make Edge fight with Cecil in the front row. This will be quite a challenge. If you want to give it a shot for the challenge, go ahead. Much better groups are available though. Not awful, but not recommended at all.

Recommended Formation
Cecil and Edge in the front row. Edward, Porom, and Rydia in the back row.

You have a healer and two offensive casters, but have a fourth character that could have used the protection that a back row spot in the formation provides. Poor Edge. He gets stuck in the front in this party with Cecil. The casters and especially Porom take priority over him for who needs the back row formation spots. Porom will be VERY busy with keeping everyone else alive. This group can get it done, but not unless you're on high levels. Yang, Cecil, or Kain in Edge's place are recommended. If you feel up to the challenge then try this team out. It's balanced enough that it CAN get the job done. You'll struggle.

Recommended Formation
Cecil and Edge in the front row. Palom, Porom, and Rydia in the back row.

You've got an excellent line of defense from the three fighters and additional help from Edward if he fights from the back row. Rydia is your offensive caster. You do lack a healer, so keep everyone alive as best you can. Not having anyone to heal consistently will end up being this party's major flaw. It could be a fun group to use up until the lack of a healer begins to really hurt them at the last few floors. They probably won't survive beyond that point, though.

Recommended Formation
Cecil, Yang, and Cid in the front row. Edward and Rydia in the back row.

Plenty of offensive is provided with this group. Three great attack stats from the fighters and then you have both offensive casters. If this group is levelled up enough, they may be able to finish off nearly anything quickly enough before they risk losing too many of their Health Points. Obviously a healer would be more beneficial in Palom's spot, but if you're maxed out then this party MIGHT be able to get the job done. Emphasis on "might". The lack of a healer will create struggle, this one is not recommended in the end despite how fun it might sound due to who is in it.

Recommended Formation
Cecil, Yang, and Cid in the front row. Palom and Rydia in the back row.

A great party! It's an excellent alternative to the canonical lineup with everyone other than Rydia replaced. Kain is replaced by Cid, Edge by Yang, and Rosa by Porom. You have a strong line of defense for your offensive caster, and the very crucial role of the healer is filled by Porom. Highly recommended. You'll surely like this group.

Recommended Formation
Cecil, Yang, and Cid in the front row. Porom and Rydia in the back row.

A group not really worth wasting any time on. Too many people with low defense stats, and when you have no healer that's not going to do any favors for these guys considering the stats you are working with. Cecil and Yang need a healer in order to withstand all of the damage they will take, not to mention Rydia and Palom who need to be able to live long enough to cast anything. Forget about this one.

Recommended Formation
Cecil and Yang in the front row. Edward, Palom, and Rydia in the back row.

Well, thanks to Porom this group does stand a chance of survival. The rest is dependent on how you set the formation up. Cecil and Yang can take the front line fighting by themselves provided Porom keeps healing from the back row. Edward is always better off in the back row, he can fight there. Rydia should be casting from the back as usual. You might like this one, it's balanced and still offers a little bit more of a challenge than the groups that earned "Very Good" rankings did. Give them a try if you want a tougher time but from a group that still can get the job done.

Recommended Formation
Cecil and Yang in the front row. Edward, Porom, and Rydia in the back row.

Overall Thoughts
Good.

This group CAN get the job done, but it will see some struggle. You have a very badly needed healer. However, you only have two fighters and three casters. Porom will be very busy for this reason with healing everyone all the time. Palom and Rydia should be trying to use their spells to finish everything off quickly. Cecil and Yang are the line of defense. It's a party I recommend for those who want a little more challenge.

Recommended Formation
Cecil and Yang in the front row. Palom, Porom, and Rydia in the back row.

Overall Thoughts
Good.
