Should not be in:

Michael Jackson(See Above)
Faith No More (Big time one hit wonder with Epic)
Warrant(See Above with Cherry Pie)
INXS(I guess they deserve it, but I can't stand them)
Wham!(No, just please, no.)

The reston the list I really don't care if they are in it or not.

No they won't they are not on the Cusp. Iron Maiden came out in 1980. You don't count the Soundhouse tapes because it was pretty much an EP. so 1980 is the start of the 80's I am trying to figure how they are on the cusp of the two decades. They are easily 1980's. And If you are putting Def Leppard in there in the 80's you should put Iron Maiden in since they were both signed at around the same time with Def Leppard being signed slightly before Iron Maiden. Def Leppard formed in the 70's. Run DMC in for crossover work, so fucking what. They collaborated with Aerosmith on a remake of an Aerosmith song and ruining the song.

1. Iron Maiden will move from 70's to 80's. As a result, Queensryche will go from 80's to 90's.

2. Run DMC will not be included.

3. Faith no More is ABSOLUTELY in. Epic was their hit, but We Care A Lot was an awesome rock song and I have a few others. They won't last long, but they'll play. The Meatpuppets will not.

Beastie Boys

You can't criticise Run DMC being in and saying Beastie Boys get in. Again they are Rap not Rock meaning that they should not be in.

Should not be in:
Michael Jackson(See Above)
Faith No More (Big time one hit wonder with Epic)

I agree with Michael Jackson to an extent but he is sort of Rock. But is more Pop.

Have you even listened to Album of the Year? it is a perfect example of why Faith No More deserves to be in Just in the 90's when they had Mike "Godamned" Patton as Front Man.

I want the Beastie Boys in because they werent always what you hear today. When they first started out they were a Hardcore Punk band with the sounds of Minor Threat, Black Flag, 7 Seconds etc. So I consider them at one point rock, so I would like to see them in although they wouldnt last long due to people no being aware of what they once were.

Blink 182 is a game time decision. Disturbed will definately be there.

In two sentances I've lost a lot of faith in the tournament.

Blink 182 were very musically talented (just check out their last album, forget the poopoopeepee early stuff), had 11 US Top 10 singles, and had an impact on the industry, although quite negatively, by paving the way for most of the other pop-punk shit.

Disturbed have had three top 10 singles, sounded like everything else in their genre that came before or after them, and made no impact on music overall save for giving the McMahons shitty theme songs for PPV's. These guys rank right up there with Drowning Pool, Saliva, POD, and those guys that sing Headstrong.

And also, if the Beastie Boys, Run DMC, and Michael Jackson shouldn't be considered then why aren't there any complaints about Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and James Brown (Ray Charles can be counted either way, although technically he isn't rock)? I say they should at least be considered for their close ties to Rock and for their contributions to the evolution of music as a whole.

One last thing, is the 80's going to be 64 or 32?

Ok, the 80's are gonna be insane. Here is a splatter list of bands people nominated and ones I found. Let me know a) if there are great bands not on this list who need to be in, and b) if there are bands on this list that have NO PLACE in the tournament. Be brutal - it's the only way we'll get this right.

Talking Heads

Okay, first things first, you listed Talking Heads twice.

For the bands with question marks around them, Queensryche is definately an 80s band, and Janes Addiction were definately a 90s band.

Oh and is Johnny Cash in this thing or what? Godfather of Rockabilly baby!

Now, here are some bands I feel you missed on, and who definately deserve to be in this thing now that the region has opened up more for the 80s.

The Cars
Minor Threat
Prince
English Beat
The Specials

Those 5 should be in there for sure.

The Cars had numerous hits, and are a very definitively 80s band because of the song "Stereo in Motion" used in the famous Phoebe Cates catching Judge Reinhold jerkin' it scene in Fast Times at Ridgemont high.

Minor Threat were probably the largest influence on hardcore music of both the metal and punk genres from the 80s on. Very influential stuff, especially when introduced to certain metal bands that would then crossover with the two genres (Slayer for example covering Minor Threat songs). The band that created the straight-edge genre and life style. This band should be in here; I think we could easily get rid of some random one-hit wonder band (Like Dexy's Midnight Runners) for a real band here.

I'm assuming you just forgot about Prince IC25, because this wouldn't be a fair tournament without the man. Some love him, some hate him, but none can deny his popularity and his dominance of the music charts in the 80s. Has to be here.

The English Beat & the Specials were two very influential British ska bands that laid the foundation for all ska to follow. Members from these two bands went on to form different "supergroups" of the 80s like Fine Young Cannibals and General Public (both of whom had huge 80s hits). These two should definately be in here.

For those 5 artists, I say swap out the following:

Talking Heads (they are on their twice so obviously one can be removed)
Soft Cell
Aldo Nova
Jackyl
Dexy's Midnight Runners

Sound good?

Oh, and Blink 182 HAS to be in this tournament. They easily replace a Seether or Eve 6 in this thing. They were HUGE, freaking HUGE in the 90s. They HAVE to be there, or we'd be discounting one of the best selling rock bands of the last 20 years.

YES. Agreed 100% on Minor Threat. So now that is me and xfear wanting them in, so what do you say IC25?

Also, I agree so much on the Blink-182 part. I remember much ofIntermidiate school and Middle School they were the biggest thing. Everybody loved them and if you listen to their latest and last stuff like "I Miss You", "Not Now", "Always", and "Feeling This" you can see how great they truley were.

Beastie Boy are in this thing, so don't bother. They don't move. They helped create rap rock. Without them, do we have Linkin Park?

Queensryche is a decade cusp band. Operation: Mindcrime was 80's and Silent Lucidity was 90's.

I know nothing about Minor Threat, but since there is such support, I'd be fine with it.

This is exactly why I didn't want the tournament too expanded - now EVERYONe wants one bubble band to get in, and if they don't, we get comments like:

In two sentances I've lost a lot of faith in the tournament.

Loss of faith? Good god chill out. That is why we have a nominations thread. Blink 182 will likely make it as a 90's band, but how big were they, really?

Anyway, keep nominating bands and making suggestions for additions. If we have to expand the 80' above 64 and add outbracket matches, we will. This is also why I have Agrex and XFear sending me suggestions - this tourney will occur because of everyone's help, but remember, it is a work in progress.

Why just those 2? Half the bands Xfear lists nobody has even heard of.

One more band I would like to nominate is NOFX. They should be in the 90's region, they are truley great. They use a lot ofcomedy in their songs, but still totally rock. If you don't know about them youshould llok up some of their songs like "Dinosaurs will die", "Leaving Jesusland", "Yer Wrong", "The Longest Line, "Franco Un-American",and "Whoops I Od'd"

As I was making this reply I thought of another band not mentioned yet, Rancid. They are great. I believe they would be in the 90'sregion, but maybe the 80's. Two good songs of theirs that come to mind are "Don't call me white" and "Bob"

Ugh i was too late. Can't believe two of my favorite 70's bands were not mentioned.Wings and E.L.O. But that is alright.Maybe they are not as good as i thought, my love for the Beatles and anything that is related(or sounding) Is a lil weird sometimes. But someone really should have nominated the Traveling Wilburys.Man what a band!!!! Oh well, VOTE BEATLES!!!

Why just those 2? Half the bands Xfear lists nobody has even heard of.

How do you figure? 99% of every one of my suggestions has been nominated, so clearly someone knew them. No need to be a dick.

Please, show me the bands that "nobody has even heard of" Wes. Please try. Because every single band I've listed has either been enormously popular, or enormously influential and critically acclaimed. Echelon would be the one nominating bands no one has ever heard of (they're all crappy death metal bands).

Really but all the bands he lists are "the most influential bands in music history"

Justin, anything you have to say about music is worthless. Your taste in music is on par with Colamania it's so bad. You're the guy who thinks Bob Dylan and the Beatles suck and apparently have had no influence in the world of rock.

I'm sorry they can't all be such amazing and influential bands as Disturbed and Korn Justin. I truly am.

But please, Wes and Justin, feel free to continue your mindless sniping at me for daring to want to help make this tournament fun for everyone; if you don't like the bands in it, heres a novel idea: GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE THREAD. Not too dificult is it? Look, I'm about to do it right now! If you don't like it, give it a try; but don't be dicks and ruin it for the rest of us.

Why just those 2? Half the bands Xfear lists nobody has even heard of.

Because they were among the first to step up, offer help, and nominate scores of bands rather than just snipe and complain. This is the first tourney of its kind on these boards for music, and it's not an easy undertaking. Wes, if you'd like to be on board, I'd love to have you help out, but in the words of Joe Pesci from Goodfellas, "Just don't go breaking my balls."

I did forget that Justin is involved in this as well, as my co-mod for the music section.

Warm_Gun: E.L.O. was on my detailed list of 70's bands, they may not have made the 64, but it isn't final yet. There may be some omissions, so they still have an outside shot.

When the fuck did I ever say the Beatles, ad Bob Dylan wern't important to the music industry?, never, I said that the Beatles bore me, and Dylan sounds like shit, I personally just don't like those bands, just cause music critics blow their load everytime those bands do anything doesn't mean I have to like them

I'm sorry they can't all be such amazing and influential bands as Disturbed and Korn Justin. I truly am.

Korn actuelly had a lot of influence on many of todays metal bands, were they "the most influential" probably not, but they did influence them

But please, Wes and Justin, feel free to continue your mindless sniping at me for daring to want to help make this tournament fun for everyone

Yup, sure gonna be fun when nobody knows half the bands they are voting for:rolleyes:

if you don't like the bands in it, heres a novel idea: GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE THREAD. Not too dificult is it? Look, I'm about to do it right now! If you don't like it, give it a try; but don't be dicks and ruin it for the rest of us.

Hmmm....I remember I while back I get an infraction for doing something like that to Brian, oh and calling us dicks, getting a little flamey are we?

Everybody chill. No infractions, just point check know where you all are. For some reason, music has ALWAYS gotten people fired up, and I for one want to see the flaming rule a little lax in this tournament. But at the same, time, this is a warning to EVERYBODY to not take it too far.

We will have at least 64 great, deserving bands in the field, but all of you will STILL have opinions on a) bands who made it who you feel should not have, and b) bands who didn't make it who you feel should have. Well, be ready for it. If we cannot banter in a civil manner, I will close the nominations thread and just post brackets regardless of how anyone feels about the participants.

Man, it is getting this heated now, I can't wait until the tourney itself begins!

I'd like to see Jimmy Eat Worl in this process in the 00s era. If Nickelback and freaking Kid Rock can make this list, then hopefully a band that actually has good music will not get the shaft. I would refer you mostly to their album "Futures," as it is their best work, IMO. They became most "mainstream" with the album "Bleed American" which contained the hit "The Middle," which reached #5 on teh Billboard singles charts.

I guess I must have equated "They suck" as you saying that, well, they suck. And obviously a band that "sucks" wouldn't be very influential or important to the music industry now would it? Sorry if I misinterpreted your post.

Korn actuelly had a lot of influence on many of todays metal bands, were they "the most influential" probably not, but they did influence them

Who has Korn has influence on? Who? Name me a band. Who did they influence? A new generation of absolutely godawful radio-friendly generic and cliche nu-metal crap? Woopee! Thank you Korn!

Yup, sure gonna be fun when nobody knows half the bands they are voting for:rolleyes:

Err, yeah Justin, that's half of the fun. Discovering new music. Thats another big reason this tournament is being made; to introduce people to all differently styles of rock and it's classic bands.

And where is this imaginary mass of people that apparently haven't heard of half the bands on these lists? Find me them. Because every band listed are very popular and have CDs that can be found at any local record shop in America.

Hmmm....I remember I while back I get an infraction for doing something like that to Brian, oh and calling us dicks, getting a little flamey are we?

Yet again, you are confusing what flaming is. I didn't call you guys dicks; I said there was no NEED for you to be dicks. Two completely different things.

If you don't like how this tournamnet is being run, feel free to offer suggestions instead of just complaining.

Can we get an idea of how the 90's/00's bracket is shaping up so we could make suggestions from there?

60's, The Kinks, gotta be, God save the village green!!
70's, The Jam, influential to nearly every modern indie band
80's, The Smiths, apart they are useless but together they are awe inspiring!!
90's, bit bias, but Pulp/ Oasis
00's, The Libertines....no way has amodern day band influenced so many people

How many THOUSANDS did I leave out? Well, you tell me. This is a pretty long list, but by no means final. I compiled this from all of your nominations, as well as a number of websites, so I may have also listed some twice. Just let me know a) any duplicates, b) any other bands you want to make a case for, and c) any bands or artists you feel have no place here.

Good 90s/2000s list, I don't see any duplicates or omissions that stick out. Some bands I could do without (Slipknot, Korn, etc) but I have to deal with the fact that they are terrible and still somehow manage to have fans, so just for that they should be in.

Great job IC25, you are running this very well taking everyone's thoughts and merging them into an organzied bracketed list, not an easy job.
