As asked for and approved by music fans on the boards, we are now accepting nominations for bands to enter the Rock and Roll Tournament, which will take place in this music section in the near future. The regions are as follows:

    1960's & 1970's

    1980's

    1990's

    2000's

Please base nominations on the bands overall body of work, and nominate them for the region where they became mainstream. For example, Van Halen is a band which formed in 1969, but their major breakthrough was in the 70's.

Each region will have 32 bands and be voted on similar to Shockey's example - the AWESOME Wrestlezone wresting tournaments. I will handle the seeding and the schedule along side Justin. PLEASE DO NOT NOMINATE UNDERGROUND OR DEATH METAL BANDS. They don't have a shot. Stick with mainstream ROCK or ALTERNATIVE - not too poppy. Incubus and Jet would be good nominations, Lamb of God would not.

See here for the current bands participating:

    http://www.923krock.com/Bracket-Brawl/1743117

Each of these bands will have a spot in the tournament unless overwhelmingly voted out.

    Any questions, let me know.

1960's & 1970's - Black Sabbath. The godfathers of Heavy Metal, they practically invented Metal as we know it. Everything from their debut up until Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is classic.

1980's - Metallica. Simply put, the biggest Metal band of all time. Their 80's body of work cannot be matched by any band in comparison. Ride the Lightning is as good as Metal gets. Arguably the most influential Metal/Rock band of all time.

1990's - The Offspring. Now I'm not a huge Offspring fan myself, but in all honesty, I don't really like any of the other bands listed for this category. But still, they are among the most influential Punk bands of all time, and achieved an amazing feat which no other band has ever done - sell 16 million records on an independant label with one album. Unheard of with any genre of music.

2000's - System of a Down. The only reasons I'm voting for this band is because of Toxicity and Steal This Album! Both are fantastic records in their own wacky rights, and they're undeniably one of the biggest bands of the new millennium. It's a shame their later output - Mezmerize and Hypnotize sucked.

Wait wait wait you are combining two of the most influential decades of music into one Bracket, Talk about knocking out good bands, The 60's and 70's dominate all other decades except the 80's for music. There has been no really memorable bands from this decade. Why not drop this decade.

I would love to see Collective Soul involved in the tournament for the 1990's. They have had 7 #1 singles and can mix up up between fast (Gel, Precious Declaration, Weight) to quality slower songs (December, The World I Know, and Run). They always seem to be a band that everybody forgets about.
Also I was dissapointed to not see Disturbed and Godsmack on the krock tournament and I would like them for this.

The Police: Just awesome songs. They could play any style. They were massive back in the day.

Guns and Roses: Fathers of rock and roll.Just pure great music.Sweet child o mine is just simply awesome and is one of my faves.

Chilli Peppers-Why not?The lead singer has a brillant and relaxing voice. When ever I hear one of there songs I just completey relax and kick back.

Linkin Park-My fave band.Who knew rock and rap mixed? They have proudced some of the greatest songs today and everybody knows there name-true rock gods.

Agreed. The way I originally was going to run it was:

    60's
    70's
    80's
    90's - 2000's.

So many of the bands from the late 90's got big in eary 2000 / 2001 (Buckcherry, Jet, etc.) but then today's emo rock will go up against early 90's grunge. I am cool with it if you all are.

Sam's going to nominate Muse. Not a big surprise but hey, screw you. At least I know the boundaries of my musical ignorance.

Anyway, this is an obvious 2000 band. Formed in 1994, released Showbiz in 1999. Not really their big breakthrough, obviously, the album was pretty average with a few high points... in my eyes, at least. Proceeded to make Origin Of Symmetry, Absolution and Black Holes and Revelations in the 21st century. Notorious for their live performances, releasing three live DVD/CDs in Hullabaloo (2002), Absolution (2005) and, released just this past week after selling out the brand new Wembley Stadium the previous year, HAARP.

    Aerosmith and Run DMC?

As far as bands, I could name several, but I got a great one for you.

Aerosmith. You can put them in all regions except the 60s.

As far as noteworthy bands of this decade? Staind, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, Audioslave, Three Doors Down, Pearl Jam, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Creed, Puddle of Mudd, Nickleback etc.

If anyone, I repeat, anyone votes for Creed, Puddle of Mudd, or Nickleback, I will be coming to put a bomb in your mailbox.

The website lists like 20 fuckin' bands, thats ridiculious. They missed only some of the most legendary, popular, and fantastic rock bands of all time. How you're going to have a "Best of Rock" tournament and not include The Beatles, the Doors, Elvis, or Bob Dylan, is beyond me. These people are idiots.

I'll throw out some bands that need to be included.

    60s -
    Bob Dylan
    The Beatles
    The Doors
    The Beach Boys
    Simon & Garfunkel

    The Grateful Dead
    Van Morrison
    Donovan
    Love

Christ thats just off the top of my head!

70's (How is their all of two punk bands in this tournament? And no Eagles?!)
    The Eagles
    Queen
    David Bowie
    Elton John
    Fleetwood Mac
    John Lennon
    Bob Marley
    Chicago
    Lynyrd Skynyrd
    Alice Cooper

    INXS
    Depeche Mode
    The Cars
    Sonic Youth
    The Pixies
    Black Flag
    Husker Du
    The Replacements
    Adam & the Ants
    Jesus & Mary Chain
    Joy Division
    New Order
    The Pretenders
    The Stone Roses
    Violent Femmes
    Slayer
    Megadeth
    My Bloody Valentine
    Bauhaus
    Minor Threat
    Bad Brains

    The Cranberries
    Blink 182

...And as for the 00's....meh. The decade ain't over yet.

Christ, look at all those bands; and I guarantee you I forgot a good 30 or so. This is going to be HUGE.

I will be more than happy to help you with that.

However, you cannot deny their popularity throughout the decade, despite what your or I think of them. Hell, Nickelback released just about every song as a single on the one album. That's impressive, regardless of what we feel quality is.

I'm going to do a list just so xfear loves me more. I'm then going to do an anti-list so he hates me all over again.

You can't go wrong with his list. It's got pretty much every important band covered.

I'm starting the campaign now for The Cranberries.

True. I tried to include mostly just bands that I personally enjoy (which isn't narrowing the field much because I'm very eclectic when it comes to music taste) which is why I didn't include many hair bands like Poison.

Sly, let's just enjoy the fact that we can come to an agreement on something---Nickelback really, really sucks. Hard.

Sweet! So it'll be all obscure bands from the 80s then?

Not sweet. So it'll be like that commercial for the greatest hair songs of the 80s?

Damnit! I knew I was forgetting people---The Cranberries should certainly be included off of the merits of their first two albums alone.

I really like the Foo Fighters of now, they are probably the best band of this decade if you ask me. The Now bracket is a total joke compared to some of the others regions.

I have Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters as my Final Four, the Peppers, well they are my pick. They are probably my favorite band of all time they have lasted and stayed fresh for 3 decades and can rock and also soothe at the same time.

Definitely should lump 90s and 2000s together, (I would love to see Nirvana vs. Foo Fighters) rather than 60s and 70s. This tournament looks really awesome.

And the 80s should definitely include Megadeath, they're just Metallica without being assholes about everything.

Here are my ten favourite bands for the 60's & 70's, 80's, and 00's. I'll only put a few for the 90's as that was my least favourite era.

    1960's & 1970's
    Led Zeppelin
    Black Sabbath
    The Doors
    The Beatles
    Queen
    The Eagles
    Deap Purple
The Rolling Stones (They can be put in any barcket, but IMO they were at their best during the 60's, and 70's)
    Motorhead
    ZZ Top

    1980's
    The Cars
    The Smiths
    Guns N Roses
    Ozzy Osbourne
    Aerosmith
    Bruce Springstein
    Metallica
    Bon Jovi
    U2
    Motley Crue

    1990's
    Oasis
    Nirvana
    Blink 182
    Red Hot Chili Peppers
    The Offspring

    2000's
    Rise Against
    System of a Down
    Breaking Benjamin
    The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
    The Foo Fighters
    Saosin
    Boys Like Girls
    Audioslave
    Linkin Park
    Three Doors Down

Edit: This is way harder than it looks. I forgot so many of my favourite bands that I now hate myself.

IC25 can you put up a list of the bands that are already in the brackets?, that way people won't keep mentioning them, plus some people may not know who they are (which bands I mean), could make things a little easier

That aside, I think Xfears list is probably the best one to go off right now, especially the earlier decades, I'll be making a list soon though seems many of the bands I would mention have already been mentioned

    Public Service Announcement:

XFear and Agrex have been added to the WZ Music Tournament Committee.

Both lists are AWESOME, and I know we can get some great discussion going. As Jake is on the campaign trail for the Cranberries, I will be the campaign manager for Queen.

I will, later today. I have some work to do right now (interviews all day) but when I get done I will start making the list. 32 per region maximum if sufficient, I think.

Clearly you haven't heard of Death, they were 10 times the band that Metallica ever were. The only thing that Metallica has over Death is popularity, Death were more influential and better songwriters.

    I nominate the following bands

    Death - 80's
    Morbid Angel - 90's
    Cannibal Corpse - 90's
    Obituary - 90's
    Carcass - 80's
    Vader - 90's
    Immortal - 80's
    Burzum - 80's
    Emperor - 80's
    Marduk - 90's
    Darkthrone - 90's
    Bathory - 80's

hmm, question here, what about the freaking Beatles? They like totally revolutionized like two decades, and like no one is nominating them outside of Xfear, and i believe it was Agrex.

According to some chart i stumbled upon, they have some of the most successful singles and albums in history, and they aren't getting any recognition..They're one of the most successful bands ever, and basically the Rolling Stones are the only thing close, or better.

Agreed with Brian here. Beatles have to be in this thing. 500 million album sells and dominating 2 decades gets them nothing? ROFL. It's just common sense that they have to be in.

So, because I prefer Metallica to Death, I haven't heard of them?

    Um, not really.

I don't remember Death influencing Pop, Blues, Classical, Folk, Electronic, Rap and R&B artists.
