I think the entire concept of the draft is a little messed up.

Think of it this way. If you win, your brand gets to get a pick, which means that you have more competition on your particular brand in order to get to the top. Where is the motivation there? I'd throw the match if I was there. Let me get rid of my competition. Makes it easier to get to the top of my particular brand.
