punk would be tight but i think orton vs. the rock would be really helpful because orton is one of the top stars but he still needs more and a battle with the rock could put him close or right there with punk and cena. it would also be 3rd generation star vs. 3rd generation star. be interesting to see what happens. if its cena, then that would be dumb because the verbal talk can only get so far before it starts repeating itself over and over like its already starting too a little.

So, is he like a part time wrestler now? I mean I'm not complaining, I love the Rock but what the fuck is going on here? Who will he feud with after Cena?

I'd like to see him go at it with Orton if he's gonna be wrestling more.

If Austin/Punk was to take place next year, Rock needs step away from Wrestlemania. If not, then it's whatever. A Rock/Punk feud leading up to Wrestlemania next year would be excellent. The mic time alone would be enough gas for this feud to go on. While Punk is solidly over as WWE Champion right now, facing The Rock at next year's Wrestlemania could potentially launch him near the top of the WWE - there's always room to grow. However, The Rock coming back this year to face Cena is a good enough send off where he doesn’t have to return for another match if he doesn’t want to. I wouldn't necessarily mind Rock facing Orton, it just doesn't do anything for me. If the WWE were to somehow rehash the Legend Killer gimmick then I'd be all for it. However, Cena and Punk are the only two names I would consider to face The Rock at next year's Wrestlemania.

If anybody, I would like to see him go against Chris Jericho. Rock would probably have that match as a send-off. Those two has such amazing chemistry (Both with mic battles and in-ring performance). Seriously, Jericho doesn't have much to do now that he's going to face Punk and he said that he's not going to stick around that much in WWE. So, how about a send-off match for the two of them. I do like the idea between Punk/Rock clashing, but really I just don't see it as big as Cena/Rock (cause Cena/Rock are like the ying and the yang, and it made for interesting storyline in TV).

I feel that Rock will wrestle in some tag match towards the middle of the card if he does decide to wrestle at WrestleMania 29. The reason why I am thinking this way is because I do not think that any singles match that Rock can possibly have can top Rock/ Cena this year. Rock/ Undertaker for the streak seems like the only match that can top Rock/ Cena but surprisingly for two guys who wrestled in the same era, they have little history. Therefore it seems a bit unlikely that Rock would go after Undertaker. A second or possibly a third Rock/ Cena match is another possibility but I doubt if it will have the same feel to it as compared to the match they are having this year and so once again, it appears unlikely.

The best bet would be Rock teaming up with Triple H and possibly Mick Foley to take on a bunch of rising stars like Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler and whoever else is a rising star at that point, and give them a rub just like Rock gave one to Evolution at WrestleMania 20. A match with Orton or Punk would just be a poor man's Rock/ Cena and is bound to suffer by comparison.

I wouldnt mind seeing him face Orton. Maybe the Rock talks some smack and Orton brings back the legend killer character just for him.

The Rock and Undertaker. He hasnt been a victim yet. They had great matches in the attitude era. why not?

Also noiable matches I wouldnt mind seeing would be Sheamus, CM Punk, and Jericho. I could see Rock all over Sheamus for his looks in his Promos, they would be epic. CM Punk I would like to see but something tells me I dont think the Rock would put him over well, but i could be wrong. Jericho and Rock had great matches already why not a wrestlemania moment.

On the assumption that Rock is going into the Hall of Fame next year and another big name who is active enough to do one more match, they could do something that has never been done before. Two Hall of Famers in a big Wrestlemania match. A Double send-off and prevents either man from plugging the spotlight from another.

Although chances are it will be Rock v Cena again, seems to be the annual if it worked last year lets do it again this year formula. Doing that though means a whole year of Cena mentioning he won/lost to Rock

I personally have a feeling it will be a mega-match against a big name and not a young star or even a main eventer like Punk.

I think they will want to "top" The Rock vs. John Cena and there is no way to do that with the current roster. With good writing and having The Rock say the wrong thing at the right time or something ... we could easily get ...

WrestleMania XXIX - The Rock vs. Shawn Michaels.

It would definitely be huge. My biggest problem with this would be ... as long as The Rock is headlining WrestleMania's then Stone Cold won't come around for them ... and we all want that Punk vs. Stone Cold match don't we?

My biggest problem with The Rock's "return" is that it doesn't seem to provide a long-term benefit to the WWE product. The product has been stale for 5-6 years, and there's no question that bringing back The Rock will help increase struggling ratings and buy rates in the short term. However, what happens if/when The Rock leaves? Given that more people will watch a wrestling show featuring The Rock, I'm a believer that the company needs to be using his appearances to promote their young talent to the people that haven't watched the product in years. Their end goal in all this should be to keep as much of the increased audience as possible once Rock leaves again.

Instead, the WWE has focused all its attention on Rock/Cena, and turned Jericho/Punk and Shaemus/Bryan into an after thought at WrestleMania. That, in my opinion, won't give the increased audience any reason to stick around once The Rock leaves again.

Nice contradiction. The product has been stale for 5-6 years so they bring back one of the biggest stars in the industry yet you still complain.

No long term benefit? Neither has Triple H, Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley, Big Show, Kane, Chris Jericho....lets banish them all from WWE and see Ziggler and Rhodes 'the future' carry the show huh? The young talent isnt there. It isnt good enough otherwise they wouldnt be relying on the veterans to carry Wrestlemania.

Yes, Punk and Jericho is an after thought because the masses want to see Rock vs Cena and rightly so because Punk and Jericho can only dream of reaching their level in terms of 'star quality'.

Also, stop using the term 'The Rock leaves'. He doesnt leave the company. He just doesn't appear. There is a difference. He has irons in the fire and will show up when he shows up.

Stop using words you don't understand. None of what I said actually fits into the definition of contradiction. Contradiction: Statements that are inconsistent or contrary to one another.

Please explain what about my statements were inconsistent or contrary to one another....

The product has been stale. Fans have stopped watching for the past 5-6 years. The Rock's return will bring back fans in the short-term. Unless the WWE uses this time to promote its younger stars to the increased audience, then the WWE will go back to their lackluster ratings once Rock leaves.

You can also stop putting words in my mouth. Where in my post did I say anything about letting Ziggler or Rhodes carry the show? What I actually said was that the WWE needs to expose their young talent to the increased audience. That way, once Rock leaves (or goes on hiatus, if you prefer), fans from the increased audience might have a reason to continue watching the show.

Your statement regarding the WWE bringing back veteran talent because the company lacks young talent is faulty logic. It assumes that ratings are the result of quality, which isn't the case. Tuning into a show every week is mostly habitual. That was proven in the wrestling world from the middle of 1997 through the middle of 1998 when Monday Night Raw was eons better than WCW yet still got its ass kicked by Nitro in the ratings. So how did the WWE finally overtake WCW? The Austin/McMahon feud was the spark that made Monday Night Raw MUST WATCH TV. While people were tuning in to see what would happen between those two, the WWE was busy promoting new stars like The Rock, Triple H, Ken Shamrock, Kane, The Hardy Boyz, Edge, Christian. If they hadn't done that, then a lot of people probably would have stopped watching the damn show in 2000 when Austin was out with a neck injury.

The WWE is in a similar state right now, in my opinion. Bringing back The Rock provides the necessary spark to get people watching again. But they still need to promote their young talent - such as Punk, Bryan, Barrett, Ziggler, Rhodes, Miz and Shaemus - or else the fans are going to turn off the TV again when The Rock leaves - excuse me - when the Rock goes on an extended hiatus.

The Rock needs to make up his damn mind. Dude either you are a wrestler or you are a full time movie guy. Can't do both. Can't hold a major angle, compete regularly in matches AND shoot full featured movies. Just doesn't work. What are you going to do? Get into a feud then be injured in a week to explain your mysterious disappearance from WWE TV? That doesn't help anyone and it just puts more $ in Rock & Vince's pockets. You can't work 2 full time schedules no matter who you are.
With Fast 6 AND Fast 7. Yes you heard that correct..

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/movies/2011/10/fast-and-furious-6-and-7-speeding-into-production-together.html

2 films being in production right now he CAN'T be a full time wrestler. All he can do is make these 1 off appearances and rarely wrestle/appear live. I, for one don't see this as being beneficial or anything for the WWE. It's for Rock/Vince to stroke themselves to. Why would Rock return and risk injury. Imagine if he gets hurt in the ring. No movie. He already f'd people over when he got hurt before his ridiculous football movie.
If Rock gives up making movies for a year and a half and returns to the WWE for a full time schedule and actually appears on Raw/SmackDown! and does something to help advance the industry then I will gladly eat my own words. Until that day this is just to stroke their own egos. Come on Rock. Put over Wade. Put over Kofi. Lose cleanly to Miz and/or Truth. Get those shoulder pinned to the mat 1-2-3. If it isn't obvious I'm sick of Rock being around already. They've got guys that are getting f'd because Rock wanted to add a few more millions to his bank account or was it because Vince was scared that this Mania would be an even bigger pile of s**t than the WWE board room after a creative meeting.

Regardless Rock has to make up his mind. Either come back and STAY for a while or go back to Hollywood. If you choose to STAY then be fully dedicated. Help put someone over. If it's Hollywood then GTFO and I hope I don't see you on the 405/101/5/118. Meeting you at Universal was already disappointing enough..

Austin/Punk will not happen

The Undertaker vs John Cena will WM29's main event

Rock may have a match depending on if he feels like he wants one

If Rock and Cena have a trifecta of matches, as some have suggested, then his WM 29 plans would be pretty well locked up. The problem with that is, we get another year of John Cena with no direction, no motivation, and no real sense of urgency.

IF, and it's a big if given Rock's movie career, he were to compete at WM 29, there are only two real scenarios I'd like to see happen.

One would be to see Rock (preferably in a heel role) go after Undertaker and The Streak, assuming he's still competing. A heel Rock could really add something to the yearly streak match, and continue the tradition of legends trying to leave their mark at 'Taker's expense.

A second possibility would be for Rock to help put someone over in a big way. If properly built, both from a feud and from a character standpoint, a Rock vs. Cody Rhodes or a Rock vs. Wade Barrett match could be really interesting. Given he will never be a full time talent, and that his feud with Cena can't last forever, if he is going to compete from time to time, it should be to put talent over. Guys like Rhodes, Barrett, Ziggler, and countless others would get an instant, and hard to kill rub from being in the ring with Rock.

id like to see the Rock/Cena trifecta end at maybe WM30. I want it spread out. I say 1 match at WM28, SS2012 and then have Rock enter another feud with Barrett(i think he is the best option) and face him at WM29. Then maybe at RR2014 have Cena blow his chance at a WWE Championship match and say he wants to face Rock in the tiebreaker.

As for Barrett and Rock, you can go plenty of routes maybe have Rock just rag on Barrett and him get pissed. Barrett and Rock can go back and forth on the mike and if Barrett returns with the same momentum he has built recently he's only going to get better. Barrett is the future main event heel and I think is going to be a top one in the coming years.

Wrestlemania XXX. The Big One. While it will no doubt be a huge show, it is still a long way away. Certain matches are being tossed around here and there, but nothing set in stone. Reports say Undertaker's boot will be hung up. Jericho will prolly be out with Fozzy. Who know's who the rumble winner will be. Who knows who will have a briefcase. Here is what's certain. We need a match to end all matches, on the grandest stage of them all.

Behold...

RAW, the day after WM 29. Wrapping up the show. Cena will probably come out as champion to talk a little bit. During his heart felt speech, thanking the fans for all their support. Reminiscing about his journey in the WWE. Tells them he will continue to bust his ass as long as their is air in his lungs. Almost with a tear in his eye....GLASS SHATTERS
:eek2:

Austin comes out and tells Cena to shut the hell up. Says he's sick of this mushy gushy bullshit (Yes he said it for shock value). Austin will go on to say things like he's sick of how soft wrestlers are today. How all they talk about is how happy they are to be champion, how they talk about how hard they had it to get where they are. Austin could reference the match between him and Bret Hart where blood poured down his face. The show could end with a Stare down between the champ of the attitude Era vs. today's champ.

As the weeks roll on this feud will continue to gain steam. Eventually the match will be set up between the two for WM XXX.

One night on RAW during one of Austin's promos Austin may continue to ramble on about how Cena is soft. He doesn't have what it takes to truly accomplish all Austin has. For that matter no one today has the determination and will to do what needed to be done back in his day... I hear voices in my head!

Out comes Orton to say Austin has it all wrong. Orton goes on to say he's been in the ring with Cena, and he can say for a fact that no one has pushed him to his limit like Cena has. He can say Cena and I arent friends, but I would put my money on his determination over anyone else's.

Now it's 2-1. Austin needs a partner. Who better than...Yupp. The Rock...

You see where this is going. But it doesnt stop there. We still need three more members per team.

To headline WM XXX:

Team Austin (Attitude Era):

Austin, Rock, HHH, HBK, Jericho

Team Cena (PG Era)

Cena, Orton, Punk, Edge, Mysterio

I realize many of you may have issues with HHH, HBK, and Edge being involved, what with new positions, retirement, and injuries playing a factor. But one match, especially of this caliber, will not hurt anyone. Another reason this could play out well is because Triple H could be a tweener between the two before finally joining Austins team, which brings back HBK. The reason I didn't include Undertaker is because no one would want this to be part of his WM record.

A side note to this match being so huge, is that it would really open the landscape to mid-card talent to step up and compete for the titles and such.

Clearly this is all a dream match. The participants can be added, eliminated, switched etc.

My question(s) to all of you:

1. What do you think of the idea for this match

2. How would you build it up. Either differently to my idea, or what would you add on.

3. How big would the team sizes be, and who would be on what teams.

4. Any other thoughts

Well, with the reports saying that Rock will have another match next year at WM29, I say why not have Austin come out and do the exact same thing you just said. I don't really like the idea of these big tag team matches at WM, so to keep part of your idea I say just do Cena/Austin at WM30. I would love the idea of it, but I really don't think Cena would get two dream matches. I think Austin will either face CM Punk or maybe Orton (which I disagree with, but whatever). Most likely though, Austin would want to work with Punk because he has said many times that he wanted to and Punk has said the same. So, if we are going to get any match with Austin in the next 2 years it will damn sure be with Punk over anyone else.

This is already being discussed in a similar thread here

in answer to your op. sweet merciful lord no! I loved the attitude era, I really did but it's over now and the new generation NEEDS to be front and centre by the time WMXXX comes around. If we are honestly still relying on attitude era stars to prop up the buy rate for a Wrestlemania two years in the future the WWE is going to go out of business, plain and simple.

I don't think this type of match is needed. Plus chances are if this was to happen this would be most of those guys last match. I doubt Austin, Rock, HBK, HHH or Jericho want their last match to be a tag match. These guys all should have there final match one on one with someone. Id just have a bunch of highly marketable matches and dream matches...

Steve Austin vs. Randy Orton

Shawn Michaels vs. Dolph Ziggler

The Rock vs. CM Punk

Triple H vs. Wade Barrett

Chris Jericho vs. Cody Rhodes

Kurt Angle vs. John Cena

Edge & Christian vs. Miz & Morrison (have them reunite)

Trish Stratus vs. Beth Phoenix

I think just having a bunch of attitude vs. pg singles matches maybe one tag match. Then maybe a battle royal or something mixing random mid card guys from attitude BG, Gunn, Venis, Rikishi, Regal, Storm, Godfather, Tajiri etc

Christ. HBK and Edge are retired. Austin SHOULD have his last match versus CM Punk and would hopefully not step foot in a ring after that because of his multiple injuries. Different individuals should replace the ones I mentioned above, or this match should just simply NOT happen.

This thread is complete bunk. Go away.

3 words. Never gonna happen. There is no way HBK will come out of retirement for a match like this even if all he has to do is tag in and hit sweet chin music for this. Edge is hurt real bad, and like he said one more match could destroy the rest of his life, if that weren't the case and it were a normal injury or just a longterm one he would still be in the WWE today. Austin will likely work a match with Punk or Orton if he wants to, but definetly not with Cena. HHH will likely be done by then in terms of a wrestling capacity or maybe he won't who knows. Jericho will probably be done with WWE by then and be touring with Fozzy or something. The Rock I bet will be done wrestling after WM29 so count him out. Sorry bud but there is no way this is happening.

The Attitude era was in the past and better stay there.Yeah it was a good journey but it's over.Understand this.WWE needs to evovle and create new stars and not to wait from the past to get money.I preffer to see Dolph Ziggler vs Sheamus from this match. Not because i wouldn't like it but because there is nothing to gain from it.

How can you say one match wont hurt anybody when doctors told Edge one more bump could paralyze him. Plus Edge was pretty much a part of the attitude era to begin with. Also if HBK comes back it completely illegitimizes the career vs streak match against the Undertaker. I like the idea of Attitude vs PG era but you got to think about it more logically rather than throwing something against the wall and hope it sticks

Because curse words make the product.

Are we in elementary school when saying curse words all the time was cool?

Roddy Piper didn't need to curse in promos to get over.

Enough with this "wahhh PG" crap.

Also the Attitude Era ended in 2001. So what about the guys from 2001-2008 when it was still TV-14?

Edge is completely incapable of having another match, people need to get that in their heads. His neck is destroyed and one wrong landing he could be paralyzed. It is a worse situation than Austin's neck, way worse, hopefully that puts in perspective.

I like the match. Elimination Style would be cool. I would have the match this way.

Team Austin (Austin, Rock, Kane, Jericho, Big Show)

vs.

Team Cena (Cena, Orton, Punk, Del Rio, Sheamus)

Most realistic combination of guys in my opinions considering where careers are seemingly heading.

Leaves a chance for Miz, Ziggler, Bryan, Henry, and any other guys they want pushed up the card to work the title matches.

Though for WM30, I would prefer the main event to be Undertaker vs John Cena for The Streak. If it doesn't end this year, Cena is the only guy left who can realistically make us think the Streak will end.

good lord. HBK is retired and won't be Flairing back to the ring. Edge risks paralysis if he's stupid enough to wrestle again.

In short, it ain't happenin'.
