WWE Championship Match: The Game Triple H vs. The Legend Killer Randy Orton

My Prediction

WWE Champion Triple H (c) v Randy Orton - I think that Randy will gain the win. It, in theory, should be a classic, as it has been given a lot of build-up, most of which has been pretty effective IMO. I can see Mr. Vince McMahon coming out during the match, telling Legacy (who interrupt the match) to go. Then I see him screwing his son-in-law, Triple H, over, by maybe hitting him with a steel chair/sledgehammer/the title. Then he will shake hands with Orton after Randy wins.

I will mark out if Randy Orton wins. He is among my favourite superstars in the WWE, and me and my mates watching the event will all go pretty mental (seeing as we'll all be pissed by 4 o'clock in the morning) if he does win.

I think it will not only be similar to Wrestlemania 17's main event between The Rock and Stone Cold in that McMahon shocks everyone by helping an 'enemy', but we may also be informed that it will be a No DQ match before it begins, ala Mania 17, especially as Orton mentioned on RAW that Vickie Guerrero said if HHH uses sledgehammer he's disqualified etc. this could show the power that Vince has, and then him to come out and help Orton win would be epic. Looking forward to this match greatly.

I'm going to look at this match from either of the competitor's perspective and see why they should win:

Triple H
Over the past few months, Randy Orton has gotten the upper hand over HHH numerous time so it's logical to think that HHH will have the more chance to win at Wrestlemania. Since Wrestlemania 16, he has only been a face coming into the pay-per view twice: Wrestlemanias 18 and 24. He hasn't won one since WM 19 so you would normally think that he's due for a win. Triple H has been a face many times before with the new reincarnation of DX as an example, but this is the first time I recall that he emanates sympathy with the fans. Some can say you have seen a different side of him, one that cares about his wife and would do anything to protect her. I believe it would be fitting to go into the biggest pay-per view of the year and avenge what Orton did to his family and win.

Randy Orton
He has been riding a wave of momentum over the past few months including winning the Royal Rumble. He has improved leaps and bounds in terms of his promos and overall performance of his character. Yet, he has more to prove than almost everybody on the roster. Since Survivor Series in 2007 when in my opinion he changed to this psycho heel persona, he hasn't beaten many main-event superstars cleanly.

Survivor Series 2007: Beat HBK but that was when HBK couldn't use SCM
Armageddon 2007: Won by DQ when JBL attacked Jericho
Royal Rumble 2008: Beat Jeff Hardy (Clean win)
No Way Out 2008: Lost by DQ to Cena when he slapped the referee
WM 24: Beat John Cena and HHH in a Triple Threat Match
Backlash, Judgment Day, One Night Stand 2008: Lost to Triple H)
No Mercy 2008: Lost to Batista

As you can see, the only main event superstar he's beaten cleanly one-on-one was Jeff Hardy and that was almost a year and a half ago. Here's another nugget of information: Randy Orton has had three world championship reigns and all those reigns were ended by none another than Triple H. Orton has to prove that he can beat HHH decisively and have an established win over a main-event superstar because his "Legend Killer" gimmick is long and gone. So I believe it is more important for Orton to come out the victor rather than HHH.

What Should Happen
Randy Orton should win over HHH decisively. No interference from Legacy or the McMahons. Orton needs to prove that he can beat HHH and to gain more respect. He's improved but he he still has room and this could be the start. HHH doesn't have a problem putting guys over at Wrestlemania and loses more than he wins.

What Will Happen
I believe the match would go back and forth with lots of close pinfalls. When it looks HHH has the advantage, Rhodes and DiBiase will try to interfere but McMahon and Son will come out to thwart their efforts. While the referee isn't looking, HHH will get the sledgehammer and blast Orton and cover him for the 1-2-3 so HHH, Stephanie, Vince, and Shane can celebrate in the ring.

Triple H retains thew WWE Championship - This last match one is a tough one to pick. I seriously doubt that Hunter will lose at WM25. The guy hasn't won at Wrestlemania since the 19th. All those losses have to hurt Hunter's ego. There is no way Wrestlemania 25 doesn't end with Hunter and McMahons standing victorious in the ring. On the other hand, there could be a McMahon swerve at Wrestlemania. Vince could turn on Hunter and help Orton win. I'm going with the former simply because it's Wrestlemania, and they want to send everyone home happy.

I told everyone this shouldn't be the ME! I think its safe to say I was right! This match was SO boring. Everyone at my place was SO bored with this. This wasnt a good PPV to try to get your friends to like wrestling (besides HBK Taker and Hardys) This has got to be the worse WM ME (besides Taylor/Bam wm 11). This match was a 2/5 and thats being nice. HHH had no reason to go over. The only part that shocked me was no one came to ringside (no legacy, no mcmahons). The crowd reaction at the end pretty much summed this match, they were bored too!

PRIME EXAMPLE why you don't have a match that has been done SO DAMN MUCH Main event a PPV, let alone Wrestlemania. This match wasnt even their best, hell probably one of their more boring bouts. Their opening No Mercy 07 match was better then this!

The problem is that Cena vs Edge has been done just as many times as Triple H vs Orton. They feuded for 9 months out of the 2006 year. It was ridiculous. I think they may have actually feuded more than Triple H and Orton. And adding Big Show to that match wasn't going to help.

The problem was with the matches themselves, that were booked. And the blame needs to go all on Vince. Vince is the one that actually decides the matches. As far as I'm concerned, all of this is his fault.

This was the first Wrestlemania in a long time I had no interest in whatsoever. And from reading the results, you know there is going to be some bullshit thing where HHH loses the title tomorrow night on Raw because of the sledgehammer shot when the ref took a bump. *Snores*

Funny thing about this! Vince added Big Show to Cena and Edge because we have seen Edge Cena to much. True, but we have seen HHH Orton as much and a lot more recently. This shitty ME is all on Vince. You know the guy that knows what we want to see. Maybe I should watch TNA now.

I have been trying so hard to give Vince and WWE credit. And the buildup to the main event was tremendous. The actual main event however, shouldn't even headline Sunday Night Heat, and I say this, well aware of the fact that the show doesn't even exist anymore. It was boring as fuck, made no sense, and made Orton look horrible. How can people even think that HHH doesn't abuse his power after that bullshit?

Contragulations, WWE! One of the best guys you have has been buried once more by the son-in-law...Backstage politics ftw.

this match sorely needed a run-in, a swerve, a suprise or something. You have Priceless not even used and the pointless clip of HHH and the Mcmahons staring at each other. The match was badly overshadowed to be carried on its own after HHH-Taker and needed some more action. The match would have been 1000 times better as no DQ but no dont give us anything extra Vince please

Alright, now maybe im the only one who doesnt get it, but after the Orton/HHH match last night, I was left asking, what was the point of that.

Let me explain.
The WWE built up Orton as a mega heel for the last 2-3 months.
They had him destroy every member of the McMahon family.
They had him humiliate HHH by kissing his wife.
They made Orton look unstoppable.
And then at the biggest show of the year..... they stop him?

We all know that this fued is far from over. We will probably see Orton vs HHH at Backlash and Judgement Day with special stips thrown in.
And the whole thing will probably end at Extreme Rules in some big blow off match.
Throw in the fact that we will probabaly see Legacy vs The 800th reunion of DX.

Now at some point in this fued Orton WILL win the belt.

I think it would have worked out better for all if Orton won at WM25[not cleanly] and then had HHH chase him for the next 3-4 months.

After HHH is screwed time after time , After he comes so close just to have Legacy cost him the title, he finally gets his revenge in a HITC match.

A fued like this could elevate Orton[and to a lesser extent Legacy] higher than ever and by the time HHH takes the belt back the Fans would be chomping at the bit for it.

Did anyone else think the ending to the match was really bad? I hope Im not alone in this, but I could have sworn the ref said to HHH just before the pedigree, something along the lines of 'finish it in a minute' like Orton had an injury?

I also think it was a terrible match, and as soon as the bell rang people got up and left. After the HBK Taker match, the final two were a massive anti climax. The taker match ended Wrestlemania, last year or the year before I forget, I think he might have won the title which would be why, but they stuck it last because no one wanted Cena to win his match, he did, which would have sent the fans home pissed off. Surely they should have done the same thing here? No one wanted Cena to win, and the HHH match was crap. As long as Undertaker has his streak, he should end wrestlemania.

This could have been so much better. I wanted this as the main event, and expected something that would go down in history as one of the greats. What we got, was a RAW main event, with a spanish announce table.

It opened just how it should've. Triple H stomping on Orton was great, especially with the ref threatening HHH with the DQ. Hitting the finishers that early, was pathetic. It wasn't needed. The match only went downhill from there.

I liked the spot where Triple H got back body dropped on the table, because I saw it coming, and it didn't break. It got a chuckle out of me. I liked Triple H using the punt to end Orton. I loathed that Orton got up like it was nothing, after he's used it to take out so many people.

NSL Grade: D+

This is by far one of the worst main events at wrestlemania ever! It was basically a sqaush match where Orton got offense in here and there but never looked like a real threat.

Thanks WWE. Way to ruin the one good thing you did for Wrestlemania. You could've started the Legacy domination. But no HHH has to win. Now Orton will always look weak compared to the Game, as he never beats him. The worst possible way for Orton to lose happened and it was just a terrible match. Now The Legacy needs to start over again to gain momentum.

I Agree with you totally WM25 was a complete bullshit in this fued Orton should have won the strap not cleanly but won it anyway Triple Hollywood couldn't go out there and do what's right for business on the biggest stage of them all because he has to be the top guy even though Orton winning the belt would have been better for business to have Triple Hollywood chasing Orton for the title til they could work it to a fever pitch and have the send off in HITC or a Ladder match or whatever and have Tripler Hollywood win the F**kin' belt back .

You guys are right the feud is now crap it was a waste of a match and an ending and the feud realistically should have no legs at all because Trips won and that's that. Orton lost the match. He can claim what that Trips used a sledgehammer that he brought into the match so that means he gets a rematch? He has no other claim to get one.
What is the point of Legacy if they don't even help their leader get the title at the biggest stage of them all. I was thinking what should've happened is the 2 of them come down to the ring stare Trips down then turn around and slap Orton
thereby getting Triple H disqualified and awarding the title to Orton. At least they get involved and it allow Triple H to chase Orton for his belt back for the next few months. That of course would have meant that they needed to switch the Triple Threat to the main event cuz that wouldn't be a great way to end Mania but that match last night sucked and it was an AWFUL ending to a mostly blah ppv.

Orton has been far from unstoppable. Shane McMahon was beating the crap out of him repeatedly and needed DiBiase and Rhodes to step in and save him again and again.

We all know that this fued is far from over. We will probably see Orton vs HHH at Backlash and Judgement Day with special stips thrown in.

They're taping Raw and Smackdown in London at the end of April.

On an episode of Smackdown a week or so back, they promoted Triple H vs Randy Orton in a steel cage match for the WWE Championship as the main event of Smackdown (being taped on April 21st if memory serves).

So it's definitely not over.

However if they're giving that away on Smackdown (especially when Backlash will be a few days away), there might be some kind of alternative for the Backlash main event, like maybe a tag match or something.

In kayfabe terms, Randy Orton should now be fired. He punts the Chairman, the Chairman's son, kisses the Chairman's daughter after knocking her out twice in a month. His job was saved cos he won the Rumble and he threatened to sue the company. He then lost the Main Event, meaning he doesn't have a belt to bribe the company with. He admitted he had no IED. He should now be fired.

Obviously that will not happen so it is another case of the creative screwing up. I have not seen Mania so I will not comment on the overall show, but speaking from the storyline view, Orton losing doesn't fit.

I have to disagree with you. Triple H said that for him, it had gone way above the WWE championship. I have to believe that Orton was never gonna win that match, the face was always gonna win and Triple H sre as hell didn't care about the title last night.

I do agree with you however that this is by no means over and I very much would like to see HHH/Orton in a hell in the cell match.

I think their first match should have had some sort of DQ instead of a pin. HHH winning takes steam off of Orton now. Basically, he is going to have to torment HHH some more to get a rematch.

Oh, and speaking of ridiculous, is there really a need for security to be brought with Superstars like Orton did on Monday Night Raw? You are going to tell me a 60 year old man can take out one security guard by himself? They could have done better with that ending last week.

I'm so happy I didn't pay for wrestlemania this year. The whole show was just a weird let down.

MITB started it out, awesome match ( a lot of missed moves, but still awesome), yet they gave it to CM Punk? Really CM Punk, wtf is so special about CM Punk I'm getting sick of it, he did nothing the whole match but kick kane...neat. If anyone deserved it, based on the match alone, then it was hands down Shelton. CM Punk is already gettin old.

The Tag Match wasn't even on WM, thats right....a title unification match was a dark match.

SAD BUT TRUE, the divas match was a high point. I liked how everyone pretended there wasn't a cross dresser in it till the last 3 minutes. Santina is Ms. Wrestlemania.

Legends Match was not that bad. Steamboat put on an awesome show, he must have a put a hell of a lot of work in before mania. I would have been happy with Jericho beating the hell out of everyone. But, as a fan, I'm sick of celebrities coming in and thinking they are the shit. Especially wearing a gay hat, with gay facial hair and not to mention super gay hair. Can't they just bring in a another famous athlete. Football player, shit I'll even take Canseco.

Hardy Match wasn't bad, but no real resolution. If Jeff had gotten carried out on a stretcher then maybe that would have brought some credibility to everything that happened. But, Matt's Chair TOF was nice.

Overrated Rey wins the title......great. I'm being sarcastic, that was just an aweful match. Why was that not ealier in the show...or maybe a dark match? JBL was going that route whether he won or lost.

Shaw and Taker. Best match of the show and I even missed some of it. These guys will give you such a good show that the winner isn't necessarily so important. Thats the kind of match you can expect out of HBK and Undertaker at a WM. Should have been the main event, even without a title.

Cena/Big Show/Edge. Wow, what a shock, the exact same crap I have seen every week since the Rumble. Nothin special. Neat, Cena won...no not neat, just typical. Please put him in a good storyline, maybe bring batista back and make one of them a decent heel.

Austin's bit was worthwhile, Nothing special but It made me smile like a special kid.

HHH and Orton. I know this is what I was looking to talk about in the first place but I don't really have a lot to say. This was what I was looking forward to and everything I said came true. WWE will ruin this awesome match and make it cheasy. They did it, corny and unimpressive. What a bad way to end a wrestlemania.

WWE, YOU BETTER DO SOMETHING GOOD TONIGHT FOR THE DRAFT CAUSE YOU FOUND A WAY TO RUIN WRESTLEMANIA!

Personally, i'm happy with this ending because it actually made sense. I never understood why so many peoples love Randy Orton in the first place anyway. If there ever been a wrestler that was overated it'S Randy Orton.

But let'S get back to the matter at hand. The storyline of this match was made so that HHH would win at wrestlemania because Orton took out Vince and Shane, he RKO'd HHH's wife then 2 weeks later he ddt's her will HHH is handcuff to the top rope after all that, HHH needed to get his revenge on Orton and he did at wrestlemania.

By the way, for anybody that thought that Orton should have won last night, don'T worry, he probably going to win the belt at BAcklash anyways so you only gonna have to wait 3 weeks to see your hero beat HHH for the title.

It was a rubbish ending.

They could have let Orton get the win, and further himself as a real main eventer. However, they just showed Orton to be nothing close to it. It devalued him completly, and you'll see this. If Orton won, people would take him even more seriously. Beating an enraged HHH at WrestleMania 25 for the WWE Title? A huge bump for Randy. However, it was a pointless ending. It's done nothing for Orton at all.
