The Dragon Ball Z Thread

I'm enjoying Super right now. It seems to blend Dragon ball and Z nicely together. It retains the goofiness of DB while still keeping the serious side of Z at times. I have a feeling that this is what Super will be all about.

A lot of people are giving Super flack because they want it to be a carbon copy of Z. Z being the reason that most of us are DB fans to begin with, so I get that. DBZ ended, what in 95 in Japan? So its been 20 years. I think its wise to give the fans everything they expect from the franchise while building upon its legacy in new ways. But since its been so long, after 20 years, can the series live up to such ridiculous hype from the fans? Sadly, I think Super will end up the route of GT. Some will hate it, while others will love it. I can already see a divide among fans. But we'll see how their opinions change once its all said and done. I expect great things though!

Can we talk about the animation for a second? Has anyone noticed the awful animation used for episode 5? Hilariously bad. I know its one episode and I'm not going to be the guy that says the entire series is ruined because of it. It just wasn't really up to standards that most of us expect coming from one of the most popular Anime's ever. It was just one episode so I will give them a pass, I just hope it doesn't become notorious throughout the series. After all, Z had its fair share of bad animation as well. Only time will tell.

DBZ Topic #16: TFS DBZ Abridged

What's going on DBZ fans? I'm sorry that I'm late. I've been very busy this week with work. In my line of work, we get incredibly busy around Labor Day. Anyways, I'm here to bring us another topic that we can discuss. Since YouTube became popular, so did the idea of everyone showing the world their creativity through short videos. Youtube is like a TV channel for the public. While most videos on YouTube are god awful, some have been amazing and took off to become very popular. Because of YouTube we've been blessed with Justin Bieber, Gangnam Style, Death Battle, and the focus of today's topic; Team Four Star's Dragon Ball Z Abridged. So with this topic, we're going to discuss DBZ Abridged and if you like it, what's good about it, what's your favorite episode, who's your favorite character from it, etc.

I remember the first time I watched an episode of DBZ Abridged. They had already finished the first season and were in the middle of the second season. It's interesting how I got to it too. I was on YouTube that day looking up WWE videos. I was trying to find some old funny moments that I had remembered seeing on WWE, but couldn't remember all that well. Somehow I went from searching WWE videos to searching for wrestler impersonations, to searching for impersonations of the Rock, and finally, somehow, I got to this video:

I remember laughing so hard at this video that I could barely breathe. I mean they parodied the Rock, the announcers, outside interference, stables, and they even parodied returns with that last scene. I mean being a huge wrestling fan and huge DBZ fan, this was the perfect episode to start off with on Abridged. I was already into it when Recoome started on his rant, but when Vegeta shot that blast at him saying, "Suck it jabroni," then Recoome got up and Vegeta said, "How can you get up after a move like that?" When Recoome said, "Silly Vegeta; the only thing Recoome sells is merchandise," I f'n lost it. That was one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life. That's also my favorite episode. Ever since seeing that episode, I've been a huge fan of TFS DBZ Abridged.

What I like about the show is several things actually. I like the social commentary that they sneak in there from time to time. I like how they poke fun at the original DBZ from time to time. What I like most about the show, however, is the running gags. Like Piccolo continually telling Gohan to dodge or calling Gohan a nerd. Frieza's jock strap incident is another one. How everybody thinks Zarbon is gay. They have so many. Also, the voices and voice actors are very good as well and the dialogue for the show continues to get better and better. TFS DBZ Abridged is definitely one of the better YouTube fan made series out there. So if you haven't seen it, I highly suggest you give it a watch. If you like DBZ and comedy, you'll love this series.

What do you guys think? Do you like the show and if so what do you like about it? If not, why don't you like it? What's your favorite episode and moment? Let me know your opinions.

DBZ Topic #17: When Did Goku Learn To Fly?

What's up DBZ fans? So I guess that my last topic was a wash. I guess you guys don't appreciate TFS DBZ Abridged like I do. Anyways, hopefully this topic will get some discussion going on in here. This is something that's never really quite explained in the DB universe and there are some conflicts with this topic between the manga and anime. When did Goku learn how to fly?

The easy answer that everyone loves to give is that he learned during his training with Kami, but Idk. If you go by the anime for DB, then you can say that he learned while training with Kami. In the anime, during his rematch with Tien in the 23rd World's Martial Arts Tournament, he was levitating in the clouds while Tien was showing off his speed. Also, during his rematch with Tien, after he used the Solar Flare on Tien, he appeared to be floating back to the ground with his arms crossed. That was in the anime, though. Those things didn't happen in the manga. The anime didn't remain consistent, however. Even though he appeared like he could fly in his battle with Tien, when he fought Piccolo Jr., he made it clear that he could not fly. He even goes so far as to use his feet to throw a Kamehameha wave to propel himself up to Jr. Confusing, I know.

Some say he learned at the very last second before Jr's final attack to avoid it. IMO, however, a very strong case could be made that he just jumped very high and fell into Jr. Because it did look more like falling then flying. Also, the anime shows its inconsistent nature again. After appearing to fly against Tien and maybe at the last second against Piccolo, in the anime adventure that he had with Chi Chi at the end of DB, when they came to a large gap in the ground, Goku told Chi Chi that they'd have to jump. If he could fly, why jump? This is something else that didn't happen in the manga, though. So take that as you will.

One thing is for sure. He is able to fly by the beginning of DBZ. After he and Piccolo caught up to Raditz and Raditz told Goku that Gohan was in his ship in the crater, Goku levitated to see the ship and Gohan. That's something that happens in both the manga and anime. Also, Goku fly's across Snake Way at the very beginning. That's also in both forms of media. So when did Goku learn to fly?

What do you guys think? Did he learn to fly with Kami, spontaneously against Piccolo Jr., or in between DB and DBZ? Let me know your opinions.

DBZ Topic #18: How Strong Is Namekian Fusion?

What's going on DBZ faithful? I Am Phenom here bringing you yet another DBZ topic for discussion. I know that it's been awhile since I've posted a new topic but can you blame me? The last two topics that I've posted nobody has responded to. I mean, are the topics that awful or are you guys just tired of the topics altogether. I really wish you guys would give me some feedback on both this thread and my Extreme Battles. If nobody wants to see them then I'll quit. I just want to have some honest to goodness ole fashioned discussion on things that I love. Anyways, now that my rant is over, onto the topic. When we think of fusion in the DBZ universe, we think of Gotenks, Vegito, dances, and earrings. What we usually tend to forget are the Namekians. Don't forget that the original king of fusion was Piccolo. With that said, lets discuss just how strong Namekian fusion is.

We first see Namekian fusion on Namek when Piccolo arrived on the planet and came across a beaten and injured Nail while on his way to join in with the others against Frieza. Nail explains to Piccolo that, although Piccolo is strong, he would not stand a chance against Frieza. Nail also explains to Piccolo that if he had came back as his original self (rejoined with Kami) then he likely could've beat Frieza. Since fusing with Kami wasn't an option and at this point in the story was something Piccolo didn't want to do anyway, Nail offered for Piccolo to fuse with him. Piccolo accepted the offer so he could be strong enough to beat Frieza. Well, not only did Piccolo aquire enough strength to beat the form of Frieza that Nail fought, he was able to beat Frieza in Frieza's second form and force Frieza to transform yet again.

This is where things start to make me wonder. We know that before Piccolo died and went to King Kai's planet to train, he wasn't even strong enough to compete with Nappa. He gets to King Kai's planet and immediately shows that he doesn't need to do the exercises to get used to the 10x gravity increase by catching Bubbles and catching him quickly. It's implied that after the others finished with Bubbles and Gregory, that Piccolo trained with them, however, its never shown except for their brief sparring match. When Piccolo gets wished back to Namek, he's obviously more powerful than he was against the Saiyans, however, we're not sure how much more powerful he is. Nail exclaimed that Piccolo was no match for Frieza and that was a Frieza in his 1st form. We know that Nail was at a power level of 42,000 per Frieza's scouter. IMO, I don't see Piccolo being stronger than Nail when he arrived on Namek. Piccolo was probably at a max of 2500-3500 when he died against Nappa. So it would make since that when he left King Kai's planet he was stronger than what Goku was when Goku left King Kai's planet. However, Piccolo was only on King Kai's planet for, at most, 6 days. Remember that they arrived on King Kai's planet right after Goku left for Namek and it only took Goku 6 days to get to Namek. When Piccolo was wished back, Goku had only been on Namek for a matter of hours at the most. So there is no way Piccolo had the time to train and become much stronger than what he was when he died. Then he fuses with Nail and all of a sudden he's strong enough to beat Frieza in his second form. Then, after being defeated by the Androids, Piccolo fuses with Kami (who's power level wasn't even in the thousands) and becomes astronomically stronger than what he was beforehand. Strong enough in fact to match Android 17 in battle.

Now I know the Kami fusion is explained as them once again becoming the ultimate Namekian warrior. Still, though, I don't see how he became as strong as he did from either fusion. So that would mean that Namekian fusion has to be stronger than even the fusion dance.

What do you guys think? Is there a way to explain Piccolo's power ups after his respective fusions or is it just something that was required to help move the plot along? Do any of you have any ideas on the topic? Let me know your opinions.

Here's the thing with Piccolo's fusions. With Nail, he assimilated a Namekian that was just as strong as he was and also had first hand experience of Freeza. His strength was doubled and he knew some of Freezas power going in. With Kami, it wasn't just strength l. It was knowledge. Kami was omniscient. He was incredibly wise. But was also old. As we've seen with King Piccolo and Lord Slug, wisdomband youth make quite the combo. Hence Piccolo at the Cell Saga. Smart as 350 year old god, spry as a young adult.

The final episode for the Battle of Gods saga will be airing this Sunday. Hopefully it would be good. so far it's been okay. Nothing special in my opinion.

So Me and a buddy were talking the other day. It just so happened to be about DBZ(yay!)We were talking and he brought up something very, peculiar and it really made my head scratch because I could not come up with any sort of answer and really I still don't have an explination of any kind.

So here's the scenario. Everybody knows that Captain Ginyu has his change body technique. Everybody remember this? Good. What if Captain Ginyu switched bodies with say, Gotenks. Now, once the time limit of the fusion has expired and the boys split back into two individuals, would Ginyu have control over both Goten and Trunks?? What would happen?? Because I really can't think of any logical answer.

That's a good question.

I think that he would have more of an influence over both bodies instead of full on control.. Because when the boys fuse, they become a entirely new being. IMO, when the fusion reached its time limit and the boys split, Captain Ginyu's consciousness would probably split as well and maybe instead of him totally controlling them, maybe his consciousness would influence them and they'd be probably a little evil like early Vegeta and posing a lot.

Yeah, I suppose that's a fair assumption to make. it just makes me scratch my head because its just one of those situations that can't really be explained. You can't dig into the lore, you can't go through any of the dialog or anything to find an answer. So its really one of those things that remain completely in the dark. I would almost call it a paradox in a sense.

Another thing I've always wondered is that if Ginyu posses such an ability, is his body we see him in his original? I don't think this was ever stated in the series but maybe I'm wrong.

It's never really definitively stated, however, its widely assumed by a lot of fans that the body we see him in first is not his original body. Something about what Jeice says in the manga when Ginyu says he's gonna use THAT technique.

He would probably be able to stay as Gotenks since he's kicked the Goten and Trunks out and into his previous body. How are they going to split when it's only Ginyu in the body? Probably makes for some great comedy with Goten and Trunks both having control over Ginyu's previous form and constantly fighting for control over who is "driving" as they say.

DBZ Topic #19: Top 5 Fights

What's up DBZ fans? I'm bringing you another topic for discussion and everyone should have an opinion on this one. DBZ has a great story, there's no doubt about that, however, what the series is known for is it's great action and battles. So with this topic, I'm going to list my top 5 fights.

NOTE: Anything from DB, DBZ, or DBGT is eligible. As well as features and specials.

5. Goku vs. Piccolo Jr:

This is a battle that I loved. This was the first truly powerful battle of the DB Series. Goku and Piccolo were so strong by this point in Dragon Ball that their fight left the tournament arena destroyed. Not to mention that this fight had non stop action from beginning to end. It also reminds me of just how evil Piccolo was before his face turn in DBZ. He was really trying to kill Goku in this fight and came very close more than once. If you've not seen DB, I suggest you do. It's just as good as DBZ.

4. Goku vs. Cell:

This fight was amazing. What made it especially memorable for me was the fact that I was expecting Goku to be dominated. I mean, he spent that entire 10 days before the Cell Games telling everyone that he was no match for Cell. Yet, for the most part of this fight, Goku was able to match Cell blow for blow. He even had the upper hand on Cell a few times. Ultimately we discovered that Cell was holding back, however, we didn't know that during the fight. Also, what makes this battle even more memorable is the fact Goku lost. Not only did he lose, HE GAVE UP!!!! That was a big deal for me as a kid. I mean I had seen Goku battle foes until his body was completely broken. I had watched him fight Frieza on a planet that was about to explode and here he was giving up? I couldn't believe it. Also, lets not forget about the Instant Kamehameha. Cell's reaction to it was priceless. This battle was great from beginning to end.

3. Piccolo vs. #17:

This fight definitely isn't remembered for its length or epicness. What it lacks in time, however, it makes up for in action. I think this fight lasted all of maybe 1 and half episodes but it was a great fight. Piccolo and #17 were pretty much even in strength and that always makes for great battles in DB. Does anyone remember them punching each other over and over again in the stomach? That was awesome. Then Cell had to show up and ruin the whole damn thing. I think #17 would've won, though. Piccolo was pretty worn out by the end and the Androids don't lose energy.

2. Goku vs. Frieza:

I know, Goku's all over this list, but DB is pretty much about Goku. I mean, he's the face of the series. This fight told a great story. Not to mention that the build up for this fight was amazing and it didn't disappoint either. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire fight. Everyday at school my friends and I would talk about what happened on the last episode and what we thought was going to happen on the next one. I mean, come on, who's going to forget Frieza's taunts, strength, and Goku going SSJ. That alone is enough for this fight to make the list.

1. SSJ2 Goku vs. Majin Vegeta:

Finally, it happened. We finally got to see two SSJs fight each other. Not only that, though, we got the mother of all rematches. Finally, Vegeta was able to battle Goku on a level playing field. This fight is one I can watch over and over. I like everything about it from the action itself to Vegeta's epic speech about why he let Babidi take control of him. It showed just how much Vegeta's pride meant to him and just how much he needed to best Goku. Vegeta finally got one over on Goku and he did it in epic fashion. This is my favorite DB fight of all the times.

What do you guys think? Do you agree with my list or not? Post your own list if you have one. Let me know your opinions.

P.S. if anyone has a topic or something you'd like to post about DBZ, feel free to do it. This isn't my thread. It's for all of us to discuss DBZ related topics.

I pretty much agree with this list. I might take Cell Vs Goku off and replace it with Super Vegeta vs semi perfect Cell. Tien vs Goku is another Good one, hell so is Jackie Chun Vs Goku. I would also Swap 1 and 2. Just because nothing could ever top the sheer epicness that was Goku Vs Frieza. Just like you hear so much in the wrestling world, this fight just felt like it was larger than life. I could include the entire fight between Frieza and the Z fighters. It was just huge and spanned like 40 some episodes. Everything about this fight just felt like something immensely significant. Frieza, the highly powerful ultimate villainous tyrant that seemed invincible. Goku, the Saiyan fighting prodigy forged with an iron will and an unyielding resiliency. The ultimate clash of good vs evil. It was literally the stuff of legends and it certainly felt that way among the school yard talks. Plus the added drama of Goku first turning into a Super Saiyan just took the fight to a whole other level of awesome. So many things about this fight and clash that makes it deserving on my number 1 spot.

Majin Vegeta vs S.S.J.2 Goku was imo much better than their first fight. It showed just how much they grew as warriors over the stride of the series. Not to mention the tension throughout the series between Vegeta and Goku was eventually going to lead to another battle at some point. The fight was good. It supported some great choreography with the combat and even had some great banter between Goku and Vegeta. Its a shame the fight didn't have a definitive end though. Maybe we'll get God Goku Vs God Vegeta at some point? Grant my wish Shenron!

#17 vs Piccolo is also very underrated. Its often forgotten in the wind but this fight was very hard hitting. We often never get to see some of the other Z fighters show off their stuff as often these days but this fight was one of those rare moments in which we did. Guys like Piccolo, Tenshinhan, Krillen and hell, even Gohan need to be given more shine. They are all under appreciated characters.

I'm just glad you had the balls to not include Gohan Vs Cell. That fight was overrated as hell. It provided plenty of badass moments, sure. The actual fight though had very little substance. It was far too one sided for my tastes. I like the fights where the two combatants are at least on some what of equal ground. Also, I know its early and the fight hasn't really ended but I think Super Saiyan God Goku vs God of Destruction Beerus from Dragon ball Super is climbing up to be a favorite of mine. I really enjoy Beerus and I think the overall fight is better than its Battle of Gods counterpart. Also really enjoyed SSGSS Goku Vs Golden Frieza. If the fight wasn't so short, I might even include it on my list. One Inch Punch FTW! Hopefully Super keeps that moment and expands on the fight as well. I don't expect it to be as epic as their first encounter but a good fight is all I ask for.

In short though.

1. Goku Vs Frieza
2. Majin Vegeta vs S.S.J.2 Goku
3. Piccolo Jr Vs Goku
4. #17 Vs Piccolo
5. Super Vegeta vs Semi Perfect Cell; but might end up being replaced by SSG Goku vs Beerus.

I think the next topic should be top 5 DBZ moments! ;);)

That's how high the respective power levels would be if Goku and Frieza were indeed in the hundreds of millions.

What do you guys think? Are these levels better than the last? Let me know your opinions.

The power levels look about right to me now to list my top 5 favorite fights.

5. Goten vs trunks
4. Piccolo vs android 17
3. Gohan vs buu
2. Goku vs frieza
1. Goku vs vegeta 1

EDIT: Again, I made a mistake on Vegito's power level. The DBGT perfect files state that SSJ Vegito was as powerful as Goku SSJ4. So if that's true (I don't see how that would be possible but OK), then going by the SSJ multipliers (basex50x2x4x10=SSJ4 or basex4,000=SSJ4); Vegito's power should read:

Vegito: 2,400,000,000
-(Super Saiyan): 120,000,000,000

So I was sitting here and debating on putting together a list of my top 5 favorite moments from DBZ. Then I realized that most of the moments I had done a run down in my head were just transformations. So instead of a top 5 DBZ moments, I decided to make a list of my top 5 Super Saiyan transformations. My list will include transformations from Z, the movies, GT and Super. So here we go. My list of the

DBZ Topic #20: Top Five Super Saiyan Transformations

#5 Gohan transforms into a Super Saiyan 2.

I can NEVER forgive you for what you have done!

If you read my posts above in regards to the top 5 DBZ fights then you should know that Gohan Vs Cell isn't a favorite of mine. Putting the fight aides, I can't deny that this was the moment that cemented Gohan as a legitimate badass and a fan favorite. Then it was all down hill from there, I'm I right..? Anyway. I enjoyed this transformation because it forced Gohan to essentially be a man. He showed a great internal struggle for his desire to not want to fight but also a desire to help his friends. After an inspiring speech from android #16, it was enough to push Gohan past the brink and unleash his long dormant hidden powers to the surface in an eruption of emotional anguish and red hot rage.

#4. Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan God/Dragonball Super

In my opinion, this transformation is superior to Battle of Gods in every way. It broke convention from your typical DBZ transformations; No screaming, no powering up, no shaking planets. It seemed very biblical and felt like something true of a God transformation. I thought the weather effects were also a nice touch and so was the music. It just all felt very grand, like something super important was taking place. It might have seemed to maybe drag on just a tad but I didn't mind. Overall, I thought DBS improved the transformation scene in a great way. Both in feel and in grandeur.

#3. Vegeta Shows off his Super Saiyan transformation for the first time

Let me ask you, does a machine like yourself ever experience fear!?

Seriously!? what the F**K is Namek?? This one is an interesting one for me for sure. Back in the day, I really hated Vegeta. Like...I hated him with pride. Couldn't stand his smug attitude and I honestly hated when he transformed. I wasn't expecting it and when it happened, I was kind of angry. Fast forward to today and Vegeta is actually one of my favorite characters. My hate was a bit irrational and over time I grew to understand Vegeta's character and his struggle. So going back and re-watching that clip, I feel very different about it now than I did back then. It was a very pivotal moment for Vegeta and his character. After talking about his royal blood and his birth rights and his pride as a prince from day one. It was satisfying to finally see the Prince of all Saiyans reach the pinnacle of Saiyan power after for so long claiming it to be his birth right. Plus bruce faulconer's score just makes everything feel more intense :)

#2. Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan for the first time

I won't...let you...get, away...with THIS!

Number 1 and 2 were difficult to decided between. Both are really interchangeable in my mind but I'll explain why 1 is where it is in a moment. This might place number 2 on my list but it is by far my favorite moment in the entire series. This is where the series took a massive shift. It was the defining moment in DBZ and it set the standard of epicness of transformations that all followed. I knew this was eventually coming because the opening for the show kind of spoiled it. That didn't matter because the build and hype towards it just became that much more real. Every evening, I kept wondering, is this the day? Will this finally be the episode that Goku finally transforms?? Then it happened. My mind couldn't handle the sheer amount of epic that my eyes were witnessing. I know it sounds cheesy but the whole moment shook me to my core and I still get shivers from watching it to this day. Oh and Bruce Faulconer FTW.

#1. Goku reveals his Super Saiyan 3 transformation

And THIS! IS TO GO EVEN, FURTHER, BEYOND!

Another transformation that still gives me goosebumps. Sean Schemmel absolutely hit it out of the park with this one. It was so intense that even my television started to shake when he first started to transform. It was so intense that I even hear he passed out in the booth screaming for this scene. Now that's a champ right there. My number 2 pick might be the most iconic of the bunch but this one takes that whole damn cake for sheer intensity. The whole planet damn near came apart while Goku transformed. I might not like the actually Super Saiyan 3 transformation a whole lot but I love this transformation scene. It took intensity to a whole other plateau and is iconic in its own way as well.

So there you have it. My list of my favorite Super Saiyan transformations. I have a few honorable mentions so I'll toss them out there. Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan 4 for the first time. Broly transforms into the legendary Super Saiyan. Trunks Transforms into a Super Saiyan in front of Frieza and King Cold. Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan in from the the Androids.

Soooo, anybody want to share their very own this? I'd like to see peoples thoughts on it for sure!

Awesome list and this is a great idea for a topic. You should've put DBZ Topic #20 at the very top, but oh well. Here we go with my list.

#5. Gohan Goes SSJ2 At the World's Martial Arts Tournament:

Last chance for requests; do you just want to see a SSJ or should I take it up to the next level?

I love this transformation. I like this one even more than when Gohan first transformed into a SSJ 2 against Cell. At this point in the story, adult Gohan had been a complete joke. He went from destroying Cell to going to high school and dancing around like a jackass as the Great Saiyaman. I was starting to lose all hope for Gohan and then this happened. What I like most about this transformation, though, is the attitude that Gohan showed. Kabito was only looking for a SSJ but Gohan was like you want a SSJ, I'll give you a SSJ alright. This transformation had an epic feel to it. From all the electricity to the tournament floor tiles floating up. This is definitely one of Adult Gohan's finer moments.

#4. Trunks Transforms In Front of Frieza and King Cold:

You're about to find out what it's like to fight a real SSJ, and I'm not talking about Goku.

This is the moment that cemented Future Trunks as a legit badass. I remember watching this as a kid. I had bought the VHS videos of it from Wal-Mart. You all remember those, right? They were $9.96 a pop, always came out in pairs, and they formed a picture on the side when put against each other. Those were the days. Anyways, I had no idea who Trunks was and what his agenda was. So when he showed up, cutting Frieza's henchmen into pieces, I was wondering who this guy with the sword was. When he transformed into a SSJ, though, two things ran through my mind. 1. How could he be a SSJ? There was only Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan left. 2. This guy is awesome as hell! Not only was his transformation epic; what he did next was just as epic. He cut Frieza into a bunch of pieces and then proceeded to disintegrate said pieces with an energy blast. It took Goku forever to beat Frieza and here this guy did it within a few moments. This is something that I can watch over and over again.

#3. Goku Goes SSJ 3 For the First Time:

I'm sorry that took so much longer than the others; this is what I call a Super Saiyan 3.

As lenguy said, this transformation scene was sheer epicness. Also like lenguy, I don't like the form of SSJ 3 at all, but this transformation was awesome. Everything about it worked. The voice acting was amazing, the score was awesome, and the planet shaking showed just how powerful this form was. SSJ 3, IMO, will always be the most useless of the SSJ forms, but this transformation at least was a good introduction.

#2. Vegeta Transforms For the First Time:

The sleeper has awakened. I am the prince of all Saiyans once again.

You don't get much better transformations than this one from Dragon Ball. Finally, what Vegeta had been working so hard to accomplish has happened. What makes this one stick out so much in my mind is Vegeta finally had his moment to shine and the score. The score for this moment was so epic that I went out and bought a keyboard with my allowance so I could learn how to play it. I marked out so hard for this.

#1. Goku Transforms at Last:

I am the hope of the universe, I am the answer to all living things that cry out for peace....

Come on. How could this not be number one? This scene ruled my childhood. Because of this moment, I went from liking DBZ to being obsessed with DBZ. We knew it was coming. The intro gave it away and Vegeta had been building it up for, what seemed like years. Actually, it was years. Before the Toonami block on Cartoon Network, every time they got to the episode where Goku took out Recoome and Vegeta called him a SSJ, they would restart back at the Saiyan Saga. It was frustrating. So when this finally happened I marked out so hard. Not only is this the greatest SSJ transformation but it is also the greatest moment in the history of Dragon Ball and one of the greatest moments in all of anime.

So there you have it, this is my list. What do you guys think? Do you agree with my choices or do you have others in mind? I'm eager to see which ones other people would pick and which ones will be on every list. Let me know your opinions.

Okay I watched Resurrection F as it was released in the UK last night. Wow, an OUTSTANDING film. I thought Battle of the Gods was the best DBZ film ever but RF is at least on par if not better. Had the most action of any of the movies by far, and some great animation and dialogue as well.

Just what the hell is going on with Dragon Ball Super? I was very excited to watch it, but it's just dragged out versions of the films with crappier animation? It would somewhat make sense if it were the other way around (adapting an arc into a movie with better animation, like how One Piece did with the Arlong arc) but this is just a cheap cash in and after watching the amazing films I have no interest in seeing a worsened version.

I'll admit though I only watched two episodes, its debut which was typical filler, I thoguht a horrible episode to open on. The pther was the one that had Beerus (one of my favourite characters in DB despite being relatively new) "fighting" Tien, Piccolo and 18, and then fight Gotenks. In the movie he legit kicks all their asses with chopsticks and spanks Gotenks. In DBS he stares which incapacitates the first three and hits Gotenks arm.

I just hate the idea of something inferior retconning a clearly superior product!

You need to continue watching DBS. Goku's SSG transformation is much better in Super as is the fight between Goku and Beerus. Watch episode 11 especially. That episodes had the feel of watching DBZ back in the 90s. That's how good it was.

I really enjoy super... Although as usual most of recent eps are goku and beerus saying full power now then next up ok now full power ok ok now full power... I know they won't do this but I could still dream after the beerus saga and whis invites goku and vegeta to go train on his planet I kind of want piccolo to go to gohan and say look gohan I know you want to be a scholar and I understand but you are going to be a father now and goku and vegeta aren't going to be around you should atleast train a little bit with me... Then we can get some classic gohan and piccolo training scenes with piccolo and gohan just like when gohan was a kid. I mean in the first episode when gohan and videl was leaving the library piccolo had that dissapointed look on his face is maybe and God please maybe my dream will happen... Thoughts?

Yeah. Super has been enjoyable. I like how they are stretching out the BoG arch. Sure the movie was great but there was always more untapped potential. I didn't like how as soon as Goku became a God, he was pretty much a master at it. In Super, he had to get use to the form before fully taking Beerus seriously. Sure the movie did some things better but Super also did other things better; the actual God transformation for one. I personally can't wait to see how they expand on the Resurrection F arch.

This whole bad animation thing needs to stop. Ever since episode 5, every episode has been apparently "garbage" in terms of animation. If you go cruising every episode and scrutinize every frame, then yes, of course you'll find bad animation. You could do the same in DB and in Z, both of which had its fair share of bad animation. The style of animation has changed sure, but that doesn't mean its bad just because its different. The one thing that has improved greatly are the animations of the Ki attacks. They look far above and beyond better than Z.

Bottom line is people are coming down on Super so hard because of their nostalgic boner they have for Z. Super gets attacked simply because its not Z. FYI, its not meant to be Z. Its meant to be something new and different. People need to cut Super some slack. The first arch isn't even over and people are calling it a failure. The series is only just getting started. Wait until the Universe 6 arch is at least halfway over before you start to pass judgment.

So I've never actually seen or read the original Dragon Ball until very recently. I went with the manga as I hate filler and general stalling (I'm usually in the minority when I say I prefer Kai to the original DBZ) It's great to see how it all started and see characters like Yamcha, Oolong and Roshi make their debuts and having their time to shine. I particularly enjoyed the first World Tournament and Jackie Chun vs Goku, what a battle!

I'm glad Super is not all bad as you guys say. No doubt I'll watch it all properly someday. I really love the two films ( a lot of fans seem split on them) and I think it would be good if they went into a bit more detail on (Resurrection F spoilers):

The ray gun Sorbet uses to shoot God Goku? It just didn't sit well with me. If they explained it away as being some kind of special superweapon I'd be a bit more content lol

Also any of you guys played DB Xenoverse? I'm tempted to get it, reading the manga and watching RF has rekindled my interest in the franchise lol

They did explain it away. They explained as Goku being so confident that he dropped his guard because he thought he had Frieza beaten. They DB characters are not like Superman. They're not indestructible unless they use their ki to up their defense and at that point Goku's defenses were down. Remember what Whis said to Goku during training and what Vegeta said to Goku when he took over in the fight?

My summary and Review of the Dragon Ball Super Battle of Gods arch

So the Battle of Gods arch in DBS officially concluded with todays episode and I'm going to give thoughts and review of this series thus far. This story followed the plot of the movie pretty close as far as basic over all plot. Essentially things just were stretched out more that was all. I like how the series introduced it self with Goku as a farmer in order to make some money to provide for his family. Obviously its not by Goku's choice as he would rather train. He does manage to get out of it once Mr. Satan offers him a large sum of money as a thank you for helping in the defeat of Majin Buu. From there its off to King Kai's planet for some training!

The second episode was great as well as it spent some time was Vegeta and his family. They were on vacation just trying to be normal people and Vegeta being Vegeta, struggled to really get into that human life. It really made for some comedic moments and it was funny seeing Vegeta in situations we wouldn't normally see him in. Great stuff overall. The Beerus introduction was alright but I thought the way the movie introduced him was far more dramatic and was a far better way to introduce the two new characters of God of Destruction Lord Beerus and Whis.

From there Beerus soon finds out about the Super Saiyan God prophecy and makes it is vendetta to find and challenge this new adversary. Eventually he makes his way to North Kai's planet to challenge Goku. Now, barring the animation; I thought this part if the story was better than Battle of Gods. I liked seeing Goku test his powers slowly against Beerus by fighting him in all of his Super Saiyan forms. Of course the end result was the same. Goku fell and Beerus made his way towards earth to continue his search for the Super Saiyan God.

I'm just going to throw it out there but, I wasn't feeling the whole cruise ship thing for Bulma's party. Not sure why a minor detail like that had to be changed but whatever, I'm just nitpicking. I also wasn't feeling the whole party scene either. I thought it was more entertaining in BoG. Even with the pilaf gang. I will say that Berrus in Super does come across as more villainous in Super than he did in BoG. He has quite an attitude and is far more short tempered, which is fine. Beerus has quickly become of one my favorite characters now. Essentially the party played out the same way has the movie. Beerus and Whis pig out while everybody has an enjoyable time. Vegeta again makes a fool of himself in an attempt to keep Beerus even tempered but just like to movie, falls apart due to a pudding cup conflict.

The fighting begins and everybody doesn't stand much of a chance against the God of Destruction and is quickly disposed of. Even the prince of all Saiyans doesn't have much hope in defeating Beerus. That is until Beerus slaps Bulma around and we get another "That's my Bulma!" Moment. I'm not entirely sure If I liked the movie version or the Super version of the Vegeta and Beerus fight. In Super he got a few more shots in and Beerus even mentioned he was forced to almost use 10% of his power. Overall I'll take either version.

Of course Goku arrives on the scene without a plan. Eventually they come up with the idea to summon Shenron and ask him. I really enjoyed seeing Shenron lose his cool when seeing Beerus and I'm glad that wasn't changed in Super. Something about seeing this all powerful dragon that has the power to grant almost any wish lose his cool in front of a God of Destruction was great and funny. It was always one one of my favorite moments in BoG. Another thing I think they glossed over was the significance of Videls reveal in being pregnant. It just seemed like a oh, whatever moment and was more touching in BoG. The one thing Super does have over the movie is definitely the God transformation. As I mentioned in a previous post; this transformation blows the one in BoG completely out of the water. It felt more biblical and was more in tune to watch I imagined a God transformation would look like. A much better improvement.

On to the actual fight. Yup. Beerus vs Goku as claimed a spot on my top five fights. This was truly a battle of Gods. To the fierce clash that almost brought the universe to the brink to the little comedic moments. This one makes the fight in the movie look tame. The actual Super Saiyan God transformation seemed really under powered in the movie. Goku just really seemed to struggle against Beerus and barely managed to keep up. In Super he was able to go blow for blow against Beerus. I like how Goku had to get use to the new God form before being able to fully contend with Beerus. You shouldn't be a master at the form at first chance. Being a God transformation made it completely different than any of the other Super Saiyan forms. It felt like Goku was in a completely different body and it worked. I really enjoyed the fight, it was comedic and serious at the same time and had some really great moments. Beerus grabbing Goku by the face and slamming him to the ground from orbit was probably my highlighted moment. Just awesome. Eventually, just like in the movie, the God transformation wears off and Goku is forced to fight Beerus in his Base Super Saiyan form. However, just like the movie, Goku absorbed the powers of the God form and is still able to put up a fight. Too bad for Goku he was eventually over powered and defeated. Which I thought was good. For a little while there it seemed like the God transformation had no limits as Goku kept on getting stronger by taping into the transformation. So I began to think that he might actually win, which I did not want. I'm glad that didn't happen.

Overall, I think the arch was much better than the movie as it expand on this the movie failed to address. There were a few things I thought the movie nailed but on the flip side, there were many more things Super did better. The final fight between Goku and Beerus probably one of the best fights in the entire franchise and delivered on the grand scale epic fights of old that people have been clamoring for. I van't wait for the dub to come out see how the western crew tackles it. Just not a fan of the Japaneses dub. Goku's voice and King Kai's voice just really bother me. Everyone else is fine though.

Final grade out of 10 will be a 7.
