NFL Draft 2010

Fun, fun draft. Would of enjoyed a better showing from the Pats, but it was still fun. See you all tomorrow for Round 2.

See you all tomorrow. Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel. Time to celebrate having one of the top corner corps in the NFL.

Trying to sell myself on McCourtry and this is sort of promising but not really.

Read & React: Reads receiver's body language to see if his man is the primary target. Quick to jump routes because he reads the quarterback well. Doesn't bite on stop-and-go routes. Supports the run quickly, even when the play is between the tackles or on the other side of the field.

Man Coverage: Can press or play off effectively. Has fluid hips, transitions smoothly and stays low and is quick in his backpedal. Sticks to receivers on their routes, showing excellent change of direction. Plays more physically than you would expect for his size, using his hands to jam on the line and maintain contact downfield. Larger receivers will use their size to shield him from slants and crossing patterns.

Zone Coverage: Should make a very good zone corner in the NFL. Good awareness, keeping one eye on the short receiver and another on any players trying to hit the hole behind him. Comes off his man to react to a ball in the air. Makes the easy interception, goes up to get the ball and has strong hands. Will freelance when no receiver lines up on his side, leaving his zone open.

Closing/Recovery: Baits quarterbacks into throwing in his direction, closing very well when the ball is in front of him. Good plant and drive with body control. Takes the proper angle to the receiver. Lacks elite speed, but can recover quickly enough when picked on crossing or drag routes to make the tackle.

Run Support: Very willing (and able) to support the run. Attacks running backs coming into his area, bringing them down with veracity. Holds up his man to force plays inside. Hustles across the field to plays on the opposite sideline. Tough player, but still lacks the size to consistently get off downfield blocks from larger receivers.

Tackling: Wiry strong and solid in his tackling technique. Brings his hips and wraps ballcarriers when straight-on in his sights. Doesn't give up many yards after catch. Attacks screens, even after push off from larger receivers. Avoids blocks in the open field, usually wrapping a leg instead of cutting. Rarely misses completely, even against elusive runners. Should be one of the better special teams players in his class.

Intangibles: Reliable veteran who loves to play the game. Took a leadership role in 2009 with Jason McCourty and safety Courtney Greene in the NFL. Very good student who made multiple Big East All-Academic teams.

NFL Comparison: Ronde Barber, Buccaneers

I like McCourty. He was a guy I was hoping the Vikes would target and possibly pick up. I think he will be a solid player. He contributes on special teams and he will get better in coverage as he develops.

Hey guys, sorry I left. Went to my buddy's place to see the Jets pick and loved it! Be glad I wasn't here for the Tebow bashing though, because I would have defended my fellow Gator with my life!

4 of our 5 starting offensive linemen will be first round picks. Im more than happy with that. The Jets, who have the best O-Line in the league, are the exact same way.

We will have a HUGE, nasty, talented O-Line if these guys pan out, which I belive they both will. Iupati is a fucking beast, and has an awesome attitude.

Davis is a immature fatty, but is extremely talented, young, and athletic. I think with Brother Mike Singletary motivating him, he will go to all new levels. I love what we did in the first round, although I was a bit excted for possibly Derrick Morgan or Dez bryant, since the FUCKER Bills snatched CJ Spiller, when they dont even fucking need him, fuck asses

Still shaking my head over last night, but time to move onwards and upwards.

The Kiper Mock doesn't really c/p well, but he's an idiot anyway. If you want to know who Kiper projects for you, let me know.

Also, by some miracle, if Jimmy Clausen is there when we pick, I REALLY hope Belichick takes him. Let him develop. Brady's going to retire by 35 or 36... I am convinced of this.

1. The 9ers draft was VERY reminiscent of the Jets 06 Draft, when we picked up D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold in Round 1. It paid dividends right away (thanks to Veteran Guard Pete Kendall), and now Mangold is one of (if not he) top center in the game, and Brick is a pro bowler. I would argue the 9ers had the best round 1 of any team in the draft.
2. The Bills are replacing Marshawn Lynch, who sucks ass. That is why they got Spiller. Even if they kept Lynch, they need a speed back, which Spiller is.

Freddie Jackson is a speed back, no?

and im aware Lynch is in the dog house, but still.

It may make sense in some twisted logic. I really wanted Spiller though :lmao:

OR Jahvid Best, and by some fucking miracle, HE went in the first round too!!! Hm....maybe Dexter Mccluster though

and yea, the Jets is who I was thinking of the whole time over those picks, I think we did damn well for round one. We, in all likelyhood, got two two starters out of the first round. Dont know many else who can say that. Also two guys who a lot of people had slated for the top ten.

Freddie Jackson is a speed back, no?
Not really. He may be somewhat fast, but he is a power back. Madden 10 has him at mid 80's speed.
and im aware Lynch is in the dog house, but still.
Lynch won't be on the team next year, they will likely cut him, or try and pawn him off for a late round pick. They have been trying to get rid of him for a while. I know a lot of Bills fans, and caught at least half of their games this season, and can tell you Lynch is afraid of contact, and is not good.

don't blame you. The 49ers need a good 2nd back.

The Jets 06 draft was the type of draft where fans are happy, but not doing cartwheels over it, but 4 years down the line, everyone says "remember how amazing that draft was?" My only warning would be to let the 2 rookies develop. Jet fans were really down on Brick, thinking he was a bust, and he finally turned it on this season, and now he is a pro bowler, and one of the better young LTs in the NFL. I wouldn't be surprised if Davis is similar.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gore is a pro bowl running back next season, and if Alex Smith has an awesome year (if he is the QB). People were disagreeing with me when I said you need an O-Line to win in the NFL, but it's true. Offensive line play is the most pivotal aspect of a good offense.

Absolutely. Me and my friend, who also knows a shit ton about football have been telling people that the D and O line is what you absolutely HAVE to have solid to go anywere.

Also, I think it was harder for Brick becuase he was thrust into the LT position, wereas Davis is going into the RT position, so hopefully it wont be as tough as a transition. I feel like Iupati is gonna be a fucking mauler on the inside, along with LAST years first round pick, Chilo Rachal. Or inside should be solid.

Gore should have an awesome season, especially if we can pick up a change of pace guy today. I think Smith will have a deceptively good year, since now we have FOUR awesome RAC guys (Vernon Davis, Tedd Ginn, Micheal Crabtree, Frank Gore)

Ooooohhhh I hope we take Sergio Kindle when we come up, if he is there.

or Taylor Mayes. Either way, we need an impact player on defense.

I would be down with Arrelious Benn as well, we would be the RAC masters of the league lulz

Also, by some miracle, if Jimmy Clausen is there when we pick, I REALLY hope Belichick takes him. Let him develop. Brady's going to retire by 35 or 36... I am convinced of this.

:suspic:.....I love Jimmy Clausen and never want to see him in a Patriots uniform. Nothing personal, I am a Colts fan after all.

I am very pleased with the Colts first pick. We need better linebackers and Hughes has a ton of potential. I think he will fit into the defense really well.

Yea, Indy, I really thought that was a very nice pick for you guys, that dude is extremely ahletic with a great high motor. He is like baby dwight freeney

Now we need to either pick up some young O-line guys or more importantly to our defense a tall, fast corner.

good point. I forgot he is gonna play RT. either way, as long as there is Veteran leadership on that line now, that O-Line will be beast. The Jet O-Line was only good in 06 because Mangold and Brick had Pete Kendall that first year. Our O-Line sucked the next year when he had a shitty O-Lineman between them after we traded Kendall.

Gore should have an awesome season, especially if we can pick up a change of pace guy today. I think Smith will have a deceptively good year, since now we have FOUR awesome RAC guys (Vernon Davis, Tedd Ginn, Micheal Crabtree, Frank Gore)

Gore has run out of excuses now, I think. He has to play all 16 (plus?) games this season. Every year he finds ways to get hurt, and now that he has protection, he HAS to stay healthy. This is Alex Smiths last shot, too. If he can't prove to be a good starter, the 9ers need to go QB in Round 1 in 2011. I think he will be good, because I think he will (for the first time) have the same offensive coordinator for 2 years in a row, as well as people keeping him off his ass.

Gene Smith is making it very hard to trust him. Alualu at 10? He looks good on tape, but there had to be better value out there.

I had Alualu as a 2nd round guy who could sneak up in round 1. Ten was a big team reach in my mind and I'm not so sure about him in a 4-3 defense. I think he would excel in a 3-4 however. Not sure if the Jags have plans on changing up the defense or not.

Norcs I was impressed with your Niners draft. They sured up the line for Big Al and it looks like they are going to be working Frank the Tank this season. Iupati aka The Mean Machine is a roadblock at guard and Anthony Davis (while I'm not sold on him) should be an upgrade over at RT. No if you could snatch a guy like Ben Tate or a Dexter McCluster here, you should be in good shape.

Simple comparison of two DTs taken in the first round:
Player A:
83 Tackles, 33 TFL, 14.5 Sacks, 4 Passes defensed, 2 Forced fumbles, 2 Fumble recoveries, 1 INT, 18 hurries,
Combine Numbers:
40-Yard Dash: 5.04, Bench Press: 23, Vertical Jump: 30.5, Broad Jump: 9'6, Three-Cone: 7.32
Player B
195 Tackles, 26 TFL, 16 Sacks, 7 Passes defensed, 4 Forced fumbles, 4 Fumble recoveries, 1 blocked kick, 1 INT, 11 hurries
Combine Numbers:
40-Yard Dash: 4.87, Bench Press: 21, Vertical Jump: 35.5, Broad Jump: 9'08, Three-Cone: 7.15
Who's who?
Player A: Gerald McCoy
Player B: Tyson Alualu

This makes me feel a lot better. Gene Smith tried to tradr out, but no one would trade. Gene Smith liked the dude, so he picked him. I like what I see on tape. Welcome to Jacksonville Alualu!

At least we didn't take Tebow.
