My thoughts on the new title, in no particular order:
- The WWE Logo will most likely remain a large graphic element in the design. Get used to it.
- Personally I will be glad to see the spinner belt disappear because it is simply too attached to Cena's defunct Chain Gang Soldier gimmick. Modern "Rise Above Hate" Cena even looks foolish wearing it. Society's fling with urban gangsta culture ended years ago.
- We haven't seen the finished belt yet. All of these prototype designs leaking are not guaranteed to ever go around any wrestler's waist.
- Cena should not introduce the new championship. He will forever be associated with the spinner title, that's just fine. The new championship should represent a shift in the business. Anyone but Cena, but if it were up to me I'd present the new title to CM Punk after defeating Cena at Night of Champions.
Good points.
I don't think that Cena will be the one to introduce the new title whenever it's unveiled. According to reports I've read, CM Punk's first DVD complilation is due to be released on October 9th, at least that was the date as of about a month ago, and I don't look for Punk to drop the title at least before then. Having him do so would take momentum away from Punk and possibly cause lower sales of the DVD. Because of that, I have a feeling that Punk will go over Cena at Night of Champions.
I've also read that Vince McMahon is really wanting to go with Cena vs. Rock II for WrestleMania 29. If that's how it goes down, then I expect CM Punk to hold the title until the Royal Rumble. He'll drop the title to The Rock, unfortunately, Rock will probably defend the title at the EC ppv and then go onto face Cena at WM with the WWE Championship on the line.
I think that's what Vince is ultimately wanting but again, allegedly, The Rock's schedule might not allow him to actually wrestle at WM 29. The new G.I. Joe movie, which Rock has a prominent role in, is set to debut in theaters one week before WrestleMania. That means The Rock will be really be heavily promoting the movie on television, radio and various other media outlets both in & out of the country. The Rock's movie will take priority over him competing at WrestleMania.
If Punk retains at NOC against Cena, which I think he will, then I expect Punk to debut a new belt shortly thereafter. Last week on Raw, it looks like they initiated an angle in which Cena is kind of "goading" Punk in some ways. Cena's comments that he has to think of himself as the best in order to go out and win, which goes against Punk's schtick of him being "the best wrestler in the world". So, they'll probably go for a "who's the best" type of deal with Cena & Punk. If Punk wins, he'll once again declare himself "the best" and it'll be a good opportunity to leave behind the spinner belt design as it's a design that Cena himself came up with and the title itself has been synonomous with Cena ever since. Punk debuting a new title would be seen as kind of a "dawning of a new day" sort of thing.
