Elder Scrolls V Thread

I’m not sure what I did, but my 300 carry weight is now 305 (or 310), while it’s not a huge difference, it often allows me to carry that one extra item that I don’t want to leave behind. I can’t wait to purchase a house so I can have a place to put things that I want to keep, but don’t want to carry all of the time.
When you leveled up, you chose to increase your stamina. Increasing your base stamina also increases the amount you can carry. However, items which boost stamina do not. You'll need to learn the Fortify Carry enchantment for that.

As I've said to others, Breezehome in Whiterun is the cheapest house in the game, costing only 5000 gold. After you get done with the Thieves Guild and do some a few extra quests for them, you should be able to make that money up fairly quickly.

Before I started playing, I heard a podcast saying that if you set your autosave for every fifteen minutes, and turn autosave during travel off, it will help eliminate freezing and some glitches because it’s not constantly saving. This is what I have done, and while I’m still only scratching the service of the game, I haven’t experienced any issues with it yet.

Yeah, there are a lot of tips like that, but my save file is nearly 12 MB, so there's only so much that can be done. I have Autosave on Start menu at 30 minutes, and I've turned off all other Autosaves. It's not BAD anymore, but still get the occasional freeze.

Thanks Merk. I can't rep you, otherwise I would.

I'll give it a go later. Delvin needs a ring/amethyst/something expensive.

Find items that improve pickpocket success, like your Thieves Guild Armor does. Disenchant the item, and then you can enchant it on several items if you wish.

You can actually get the house and every upgrade in it for free.

I started getting lag and the only thing I did was to wait for 30 in-game days, doing that will reset every moved item and drop the save files size. It worked pretty well. I also had all of the auto save feature at the default settings.

I did not know about this Percentage thing. I shall look into it.

Also, if you have plenty of lock-picks, breaking them intentionally on a high level lock still makes the level go up. Wait that's lockpicking? Oh well. If you have Dark Brotherhood armour or are in the earlier stages of vampiricism there are beneficial effects to help aid you in pick-pocketing.

I got vampiricism early in the game when I tried entering a cave well over my capabilities. Didn't figure out what it was until it was too late and I was bloodthirsty. I had to sneak through Whiterun to have a blood based meal so I could fix it. Probably the hardest thing I've done in the game still, sneaking through Whiterun that is.

Does anyone else pick proper names when enchanting their gear in the game? I know i do.

My twin glass swords are named Hellfire and Lifegiver. Perhaps not the most creative names I've ever come up with, but they're short and descriptive.

Eventually, I'll upgrade my smithing perks to Daedric weapons, but I'm first working on making my Dragonscale Light Armor not weigh me down.

35 hours in and I have only visited one other major settlement aside from Whiterun and that was Falkreath and that was on a fleeting visit on the way to wiping out the Glenmoril witches. Speaking of wiping out, the Silver Hand felt the cold hand of revenge too.

Had the rather unhappy experience of fighitng a dragon and a Dragon Priest, Krosis, at the same time on Shearpoint. Luckily, though I had a two useful companions with me - an actual Companion - Vilkas - and Barbas the dog. Barbas distracted Krosis long enough whilst Vilkas and I doled out the damage to the dragon before Destruction spells, Fire Breathe and an Orcish Warhammer of Burning did for the Priest.

He might be a pain but Barbas is very useful in a fight.

So, I know I'm crazy but I only ever hired Skyrim, three times I might add which was still an awful lot cheaper than buying it. In that time I did all of the Dark Brotherhood stuff, completed the main story, got to level 39, got 100 smithing and alteration and made daedric armor to legendary level. I might hire it once or twice more to try to finish everything but I had a lot of my fill of it now. One of the best games I've ever played. And I can say that because I bought the uncharted's shortly after and completed them. Skyrim over them any day.

Yeah, that fight sucks. BADLY. Of course, unless you did that fight as part of a quest, you probably glitched your game. Not badly, it's just one of the bounties you receive is to remove that dragon at Bonestrewn Crest...which you've already done. Not a big deal, just stays in your quest log.

Point is, try to avoid taking bounties from Windhelm if you don't want a possible glitch.

Cheers, Sly. I shall keep that in mind.

Can't imagine how bad the fight would have been without Vilkas and Barbas. I suppose it was pretty stupid/unlucky to awaken Krosis at the same time. Doesn't help that I am only at Level 15 or something

Actually, the level doesn't really matter because enemies level up with you. And I did the same thing. One moment I'm trying to kill a dragon (hard enough) and the next I have a Dragon Priest zapping me. Luckily, I had the dragon hurt pretty badly, so I was able to finish him off before Krosis really was able to fully mount an offense against me. I don't travel with companions, either. Ruins sneaking too much.

I will admit that, despite being useful distractions/killers, Lydia, Vilkas and Barbas can attract unwanted attention at the wrong time. Don't think I have snuck into anywhere or up behind anyone. In fact, there are a lot of things that I have not done at all - conjuring, smithing, enchanting and plenty of other things. A lot of my skills are still at base Nord level.

Could do with another house too as Breezehome is becoming rather overstocked. My book collection in particular is colossal.

I think we've talked about this and the Windhelm house, have we not?

Yeah, we have but I do not think it really matters where I get another place and what size it is as my hording is a bit of a problem

If you have it on PS3, you'll probably want to stop hoarding items you can part with (old armor and weapons, for example). The more stuff you hoard, the larger the game save file becomes and that leads to lag and freezing issues.

I don't know if you have it on PS3, PC or Xbox, just noting a well-known PS3 issue.

Playing on the PC although I have been cutting back on my hording, especially now that I am starting to come across better versions of weapons - probably still carrying too many of those around with me...

I mean how many different bows do I really need?

Haha...I did the same thing. Sometimes it's just easier to go back to the house and drop things in a chest than it is to go sell them at a variety of different stores. That's one of the things I like about Whiterun. There are two places to sell weapons and armor, a place to sell potions and a general store, all pretty close together.

I have liked the Orcish Warhammer of Burning so far but I have just received Wuuthrad so it might allow me to get rid of a few more redundant axes in the shops of Whiterun before I leave. Think I am using a Dwarven Bow of Soul Catching or whatever it is called. Pretty nifty peice of kit so far.

That reminds me that I did not lift the bones and scales from the dragon I slew on Shearpoint. Nice like cache of cash for later.

Don't sell too many of those. They make great armor.

Dragon armor is amazing, and it looks pretty cool to. 100 smithing is rather easy to. I'm loving two handed and heavy armor on an Orc. Good lord I'm a tank.
