Lol, this line off of Punk's promo tonight has probably been on many of the more "smart" fans minds including myself, another way of saying, "man I really feel like I could do this better than they do". This isn't about that per se but I feel like it was the one qoute that summed Punk's promo up best.
This is about the many changes that WWE has gone through over the past few years. To some it may seem like Vince is just doing the same old things but maybe he's just been working off of a ten year plan since 2004 or something. He's been breaking down the wrestling formula for a long time now, from the basics, seemingly so he can rebuild wrestling into w/e their going to call it in the future.
Now I've wanted to write about this for a long time, but honestly I could write a book, and this won't grab much attention anyway, but I'll give it a go anyway.
Match structure is completely based on HDTV nowadays which was to me, the first most obvious difference between old and new wrestling. Going to a live WWE show and watching it on TV is more likely more similar than it has ever been. With the advent of HDTV it seems like they choreograph a lot more of what their doing in the ring in order to get the best shots for the camera which in my opinion makes the new wrestling product look much more fake on television. Anyone thats been watching for a long time knows that Sin Cara Vs. Evan Bourne would've looked a lot different ten years ago(not to mention 15 years ago in WcW). I feel like that type of thing has hindered guys like Sin Cara from being as great as they can be because they have to go so slow to perform these ridiculous(but awesome) moves that they could never connect on in real life. A guy like Sin Cara's biggest advantage in the ring theoretically is his speed, which would allow him to make the types of moves he does in the ring. It might sound like I'm making excuses(and maybe I am, because they're good ones too) but I'm fairly sure thats why he was botching when he came in, he used to wrestling at a certain pace, when you slow him down that much its going to take time to adjust.
Now I feel like Vince is making a mistake in that example in particular, but what if its all part of the bigger picture. Obviously Vince let wrestling out of the closet a long time ago, but he wasn't done. I think he wants to remove any doubt about the fakeness of wrestling and make it into a complete tv show(or a cartoon). Hence Santino. Hence guest hosts. Hence The Miz(no offense Mizfits but I still think I can whup his ass!). Hence a Lap Top for a GM(ridiculous). Hence everything about Michael Cole for the past year.
Question is what lies in the future. CM Punks promo is the biggest thing thats happened in WWE in a long time(I would say wrestling but lets be honest, WWE is the only thing that matters). Definate game changer. He said things tonight and broke the "4th wall"in so many ways they surely couldn't just go back to things as they were last week and just not acknowledge anything he's done, unless of course it somehow was actually a work(I seriously DOUBT that, CM Punk said nothing that would actually be offensive to anyone outside the wrestling community. Whatever Punk would've said about the bullying thing could be used against Linda McMahon in the future, they knews he was going to talk some shit ahead of time).
Could ROH be working with the WWE as someone else suggested(they seem to have a working relationship as it is). Will this be the end of the seeming 240 pound standard? Where does the WWE go from here. I've heard of a show on Nickolodean(which could spell the end of my days as a fan, along with similar moves) could Vince's plan be to target children only? Where is WWE going as a whole, and what are Vince's billionaire ideas.
