WWE Royal Rumble 2011 - Aftermath and General Discussion

I wish they would have gave the Rumble match more attention. That's basically the entire point of the PPV and it has barely been discussed at all. I do think it would be really cool if Christian could win the Rumble but all of us that isn't happening.

The problem is, the Rumble has been focused on superstars returning (for the recent years at least). At the moment, there are quite a few big names on injury (Triple H, Jericho, Christian, Undertaker) so everyone is anticipating that someone comes back. If someone does return from injury then it will be a "I told you so. This is too predictable." but if no one returns then it'd be a "This is boring, Triple H isn't back".

You will also have the Nexus members in the RR, new Nexus vs old Nexus with both trying to make their leader win which would add make it interesting. It'd be really cool for Bourne to return too even though I know he won't win, he could make a mark in it & hopefully get a push before WM.

I'm a bit worried that WWE might try to push Del Rio to win the Royal Rumble which would be horrible since he hasn't been in WWE long enough to win the title.

With 2 RAWs until the Rumble, I'm really hoping WWE will emphasize it more these next couple weeks and actually draw some attention. The only reason I would buy the PPV is for the Rumble and if it isn't discussed much then I'm not going to waste my money.

Okay i absolutely love surprise returns in the rumble, not a fan of Cena, but when he returned i almost crapped my pants, that was awesome! So unexpected! Also I think that there are a few people who could return to the squared circle for the biggest battle of them all.

Jericho: Obvious choice but no rumors of it so far, but like the last person above me said, he was randomly mentioned on TV, i don't know if he will return in the rumble match but maybe to help Miz win.

HHH: Very obvious he loves to return at the rumble like he did in 02 and he will bask in all his glory that he is the king of kings!

Christian: I would like to see him return but not win the rumble because i want him in the chamber match to either help or hurt edge winning the match!

I dunno if Trips will be in the actual match, but i wouldn't be surprised if he jumps outta the crowd to eliminate Sheamus.

This is a better idea than him simply entering the rumble because he focuses his attack solely on sheamus and doesn't have the possibility to win it which I feel would detract. If I was picking a returner, well it may not be as high profile as previous years but I honestly think christian is going to get put in towards the end.

I'm really not sure about Chris Jericho's return tbh on account of this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n74HIdFVMuY

Skip to about 6:50 and hear it for yourself, I wouldn't be suprised if we never saw him again short of a hall of fame appearance. Remember the last time he got bored of wrestling? out for over two years. I don't bank on him being bank at all.

But I think Christian is a much safer bet. He gets a firmly good reaction from the crowd, he's been out for a while and his retun could set up many things including... an Edge/Ziggler or WWE champ feud going into mania should he happen to win (preferably Edge of course), a feud with Del Rio for the injury he suffered which would be pretty high profile and fun to watch. He could naturally just come in lose and be out for mania or be in a tag match/MITB match if it's on because he is a MITB veteran now.

Either way if I had to pick I believe that Sheamus will be fighting Morrison as the last two competitors of the actualy royal rumble match and trips will interfere in that somehow, leaving a a main event at mania for Morrison. And I'd guess at Christian returning during the match as well, making a big impact and possibly stirring things up between himself and del rio for that one to go into mania. That's my call.

I'll go out on a limb and say that there will be no surprise returns in the match. Why? Because Jericho and HHH are main event players and if they enter the Rumble as a surprise entrant, I think WWE will book them to win the Rumble. But frankly niether Trips nor Jericho needs to win the Rumble at this point as having either of them in the WrestleMania main event would not make a lot of sense.

Christian is probably a good choice to return as he is a midcarder who does not need to win the Rumble on his return but I've heard on some site that he will be returning around February.

But of the three of them I would surely like to see Christian return more than Jericho or HHH.

I'd love for JoMo to win the Rumble but I just don't see it happening, I think it's between three wrestlers.

John Cena - As much as I don't want to see Cena vs The Miz at Wrestlemania I think that is where we are heading, and Cena overcoming two Nexus' to win the Rumble is the kind of "beating the odds" thing WWE likes.

Alberto Del Rio - Personally I don't think he's ready but he's the only guy right now building his storyline about winning the Rumble and all this destiny talk reminds me of when Orton first won the title, plus there aren't many options on SD to face Edge.

CM Punk - With three face options on Raw it seems unlikely to me that a heel Punk would win the Rumble, but his character is so hot right now it wouldn't be out of the question for him to win the Rumble and cement himself back at the top of heeldom.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Triple H return at the Rumble but I don't expect them to do the "returning stars wins it" thing again.

I think that if the Undertaker is able to compete and if he "wants" to retire this year, his return to the rumble would be a good thing.
He could make his last road to wrestlemania on the top and have a solid buildup for his last match.
Because if he retires in a final match at mania with a return just 2 weeksbefore the event.... It would just suck.
Plus, Taker returning to this rumble would be a real surprise beside a return of Trips awaited by 90% of the crowd.
So it would be good but I don't think this gonna happen :(

Chris Jericho can return and pull of the win. But I would most likely want to see Triple H since he isn't injured anymore due to he was at Tribute to the troops. Also, I would like to see one of The Nexus members win, or former members Wade Barret.

Because only established people win I see it being the following. Triple H and Seamus eliminate each other to begin the build to WM. Christian not getting it because since he came back from TNA he has got no push, the WWECW title does not count (hell WWE does not count it anymore).
So we got on
Raw: Cena, Punk, and maybe a return Jericho (Orton is in a match so he won't be in rumble).
SD: Undertaker ( if he is cause of his injury, since brock is busy they have to do something with him)
2 veterans I could see: Kane, or Big Show
If they want to surprise us they could let a mid card win: Albert, or Morrison

I will defiantly say it is not clear cut as it has been in the last 10 years but it is not like their is 20 guys that can win it.

What just came to my mind is that Shelton Benjamin should totally return. To me i don't see it happening but just remember all of his epic battles (Ex.Goldrush Touney Shawn Michaels Vs. Shelton Benjamin), and where did he disappear to. A return as epic as this would be sweet to see. Clock ticks down then you hear "Aint No Stoppin Me Now!!!!", pure epicness

Shelton is currently signed to Ring of Honor.

My Nexus plan didn't pan out but I still think there will be a fight mid-rumble between the two groups. Maybe Barrett and Punk will eliminate each other or one of them will tell one of their members to take the other out.

I think a HHH return is seeming less likely at the moment. His focus seems to be geared towards working backstage and spending time with his family. But this could just be WWE trying to make us think he isn't coming back, making his return all the more surprising.

Since Randy will be facing Miz, that leaves Cena, Morrison, Punk, or Barrett as my top picks based on current story lines and how well it could work leading to WM.

WWE Needs to blow the roof of the georgia dome this april. How? They need to give us something we all want to see....an Edge vs. Christian Fued...it has been talked about many times yes, but only done a few times. Their match on Raw was incredible. And we came very close to seeing it last year (HAD ECW NOT SHUT DOWN). They just mentioned it on February 8, 2010. I clearly remember Christian being in the ring, and saying the words "I'm a little offended my brother Edge did not consider wrestling me at wrestlemania. But we all found out why last week on ECW." then he went on to explain ECW being shut down. Then he wrestled Sheamus and so on and so on. Watching back on that clip, the arena was completely silent when he said that he was offended Edge didn't want to wrestle him. But do you know what happened nearly four months later? Edge vs. Christian on Monday Night Raw. This match had it all! Counters, Finishers, Kickouts(or as JR would say "AND A KICKOUT! AND A KICKOUT! AND A KICKOUT!". This match TORE THE HOUSE DOWN! Why not have it at mania? You know there is defintly all these people that would want to buy it. And Vince Is Focused On Breaking 1,000,000 Global Buys For Mania 27, so put this match on the card as the main event for the world title. Do you really have anyone else that could work a program in the world title division? Just Big Show, Rey Mysterio and Kane and Alberto Del Rio...we've seen those matches too many times already. Kane vs. Edge wasn't even worthy to main event Survivor Series, let alone the show of shows. Big Show vs. Edge would suck. Rey vs. Edge doesn't seem like it would be good at all. Edge vs. Alberto Del Rio. Worthy to main event a different PPV, but defintely not WM (i am a huge Del Rio fan btw, but i recognize that him vs. Edge most likely will not happen). They need to have Christian win the Royal Rumble some how, then have him Chose Edge (who can be the heel). Christian says that he's always wanted to main event against his [storyline] brother, and that he's finally got his chance. Edge can say that he doesn't want to face Christian. Christian can say he's entitled to a title shot. It's like Miz vs. Morrison, this storyline practically writes itself! So Christian needs to win the royal rumble, and go on to work a program with Edge. I see at least a 60% chance in this happening. The Rumble is used nowadays for a returning superstar from injury. Christian is injured. Right now in my mind, i can mentally picture Christian running down to the ring [GO!!! IF YOU CLOSE YOUR EYES YOUR LIFE A NAKED TRUTH REVEALED] and entering the ring with all the competitors in the ring literally stunned at what they're seeing. Christian wasn't ever pushed hard enough to get to main event level....Vince didn't want him to go for some reason, but he is in need of a main event for mainia desperately...this is Vince's last shot to do something this big. Will he jump on the chance? I know for sure i'm tuning in January 30,2011 to see the Road To Wrestlemania begin...

I think the winner of this year's Rumble comes from Smackdown. I've not seen much, if any, hype for the Rumble match itself so far on RAW, but from what I've read about Smackdown, there's been some mentioning of it.

I think that the winner this year will be Alberto Del Rio or a returning Chris Jericho.

im sort of new to this guys so forgive me if u think im wrong here.
in my opinion, this years royal rumble realistically come down to 3 guys:
1) CM Punk : now everyone knows vince has been high on punk for a while now thus becoming the top heel after his return and taking down the top dawg (cena). i think this fued will end at mania with cena as champ and punk as the royal rumble winner.

2) Jomo: this guy has been making an impact. win over like of jericho and then beating sheamus clean numerous times. only thing i would understand was why would he have a no 1 condendership match at a pay per view and then the resulting championship match on RAW? :S i think they wer testing the waters with jomo and he passed with flying colors.

3) even though i dont agree with this one. i think jericho may make a surprise return and win the rumble in the fashionable trend wwe has been doing the last couple of years.also they usually like "made" guys winning the rumble and y2j fit the bill. but i think his return should be at rumble costing orton the title.

some may say theres a high chance ADR will win it but he hasnt been around for long enough to take it this year.

Every year we have atleast one don't we?

Who could forget the RVD markout of 09, or the miraculous return of Cena. Turn back the time and a limping Hart coming down the aisle in RR 94 had us MTFO!

So who do you think will it be this year?

My pick, is this man-

With his contract with TNA up in the air, this is probably the most likely of times that we can see this man finally grace a WWE ring. An HOF induction would be imminent as well, but the fact that he could start a feud with any of the big dogs (especially Taker) leading upto a match in Mania would be Marquee Gold. Sure there are obstacles to be overcome for this, but if done right, this could be a fanastic swan song for the Stinger.

For f*ck's sake, just play the YouTube video, and try not getting excited!

Your picks? Thoughts? TYPE!

We know there's a good chance the champions coming in to WM will be Orton or The Miz on RAW and Edge on Smackdown!

Question is who can you see win the Rumble that can have a program with and of these three?

So here are the possibilities ....
-> John Cena - It's been 10 years since some repeat a Rumble victory. I don't see creative having problems giving him a 2nd rumble victory. Plus this is a perfect classic Rumble Winner vs. Champion setup whether the Champion is either Orton or Miz.

-> Chris Jericho - A surprise winner perhaps? If Orton wins the WWE Title and Edge retains we could see Three Way unification match. Something I am also predicting with CM Punk. Problem is do we need another surprise entrant/winner? Isn't it overkill

-> CM Punk -> See Jericho

-> John Morrison -> Could win it, he's on a hot streak and we could see a Morrison vs. Orton showdown.

-> Alberto Del Rio -> Another possibility if you ask me. He's getting great heat and what a surprise it would be for Del Rio to win. Face Edge at WM and win it.

Amazing Kong enters at 17-25 and eliminates a big threat, like 2-3 superstars, but then gets elliminated

Christian enters at 20-27 and runs into the ring with only Del Rio inside. Del Rio has been on an magnifficent role and elliminated many superstars, but gets elliminated by Christian, who gets elliminated very late in the match, or maybe wins it.

I like the amazing kong thing but as someone has said already not many people would know her

And i like the christian idea because Del rio keeps talking about his destiny and he is on both shows promoting how is going to win the rumble so i think christian will return and win the royal rumble then go on to no way out against del rio in some sort of way and then faces edge at Wrestlemania
Then Who Knows Then?
:worship:Christian World Heavyweight Champion Maybe?

I can't see Del Rio not winning this. He has been on Raw promoting himself to win the Rumble the past two weeks and a match with the likes of Edge could be a good choice for Smackdown. Also with the youth movement in full effect this would be the right way to go. I would be surprised if he did not win. Other possibilities may be Cena (of course), CM Punk and John Morrison IMO. I will be very let down this time if a another returning wrestler wins the Rumble like Triple H (shudder).

I agree Del Rio probably won't win, but if they do MITB at 'Mania, he's winning it hands down. I think they just want to build a good mystery for who's going to win, and for the casual marks, I think that works. Even so, I'm still curious to see what he does at the Rumble, and how they handle him, as well as many others. This is what a Rumble buildup needs to be, building anticipation for what will happen to many of the superstars involved, in the past, they've just gotten lazy and built it around 1 or 2 guys.

Dolph will win the rumble, he will lose his match with edge and somehow blame vickie, vickie will make up for it by using her power as Smackdown consultant to get dolph the last entry in the rumble, we have already seen vickie use her power to get dolph the number 1 contendership and through her time with edge we have seen how involved she is in storylines, plus ziggler has the look, the ability, the gimmick, the crowd reaction, the charisma, and can carry a match, he has everything to be a Mania main eventer.

In regards to Christian:

A Rumble return is a definite possibility, but I think the chances of him winning are near zero. I do think that if he returns then they'll go Edge/Christian at WM, just that Edge will beat Dolph at RR and then lose the title at Elimination chamber (maybe to Christian and then a rematch at WM for the title, or to someone else with Christian playing an important part in him losing) setting up the match I've been waiting to see for a while now.

I'm hoping that Y2J or Triple H don't continue the trend of coming back and winning the rumble. It was kind of cool when Cena did it iirc, but that's only because they kept it from being leaked along with an expected return date months down the road, so it wasn't even remotely on people's mind.

Dolph IMO has a lot of those things yes, minus of course the last thing you said! I do not think Dolph has the ability whatsoever to SELL a Wrestlemania main event! Last year's show ended up drawing less than a million buys, the lowest in years. I dont think Ziggler is a solution...at least not yet, maybe next year. I'm aware the show will be stacked with main event matches, but they all need to attempt to sell. Not all the eggs would be in the basket of Ziggler and whoever else he faces, but they would certainly give nobody the extra insentive to dish out there hard earned money, and that's where the problem lies!

Well the WWE listed 21 names for the rumble

http://www.wrestlezone.com/news/article/wwe-confirms-21-names-for-the-royal-rumble-match-121313

I feel like the majority of the lower card guys are all going to be in around the same time (between entriles 7 and 18) and will all be eliminated by a big guy like Mark Henry, Mason Ryan, The Big Show or Big Zeke.

I am also worried a guy like Daniel Bryan will be among these, but I would like to see him have a nice run.

I would like to see Del Rio in the postion Punk was last year, an early entry to eliminates a bunch of guys and maybe even talks on the mic.

I am starting to believe that CM Punk is going to win the Royal Rumble.

The rise to 40 competitors and all the talk of it being the biggest challenge ever sounds like it is tailor made for John Cena to emerge victorious. Perhaps a little too obvious. Punk and Cena could easily be the last two, with Nexus then coming back to give Punk the victory.

If this was to happen, I still see Cena vs Punk at Wrestlemania with Cena taking Miz's title at Elimination Chamber, perhaps with help from Nexus.

Christian winning the Rumble would be a great way to launch him into the main event scene at last. He's been ready for so long and the fans would go nuts over this. On the mic or in the ring, he's just complete and entertaining and it's time for it to happen.

John Morrison though. It just seems the build up for him is screaming Royal Rumble win. If not Captain Charisma, this is my choice and it'll be a damn shame if a veteran like Cena, Punk or Triple H were to win it. Morrison has really stepped up his game and he's only going to get better now it seems on Raw.

If WWE is really behind the youth movement, for the love of God put Morrison in, or have Christian, who has little to no main event experience once you take out the ECW reigns, in there.

As ever, WWE will give us a suprise at the Rumble BUT this year they are under more pressure to deliver than any other. The new 40 man format will entice the casual fans to part with their hard earned cash more than ever. Expectations will be high...

Here are my suprise predictions:

Likeley returns: Triple H, Great Khali,

Possible returns: Chris Jericho, Bret Hart, Undertaker, Christian, Skip Sheffield, Evan Bourne, Booker T

Highly unlikely appearences: Sting, Kevin Nash, Goldberg

Never gunna happen returns: Batista, Shawn Michaels, Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley, Chris Benoit

Cliche Predictions:

Alberto Del Rio will enter first and last well over an hour. Might even make it to the end.

Mark Henry and Zeke Jackson will go toe to toe at some point

Speaking of Mark Henry, the crowd will go "Woooooooh" when his music hits (they always do even though he is utter crap). Will do the same for Kane, Zeke, Khali.

Kane will eliminate 4/5 people and his record will be mentioned.

The Nexus will be in the ring with Barretts new stable. Probably just them 8/9 men at the same time and nobody else. I then predict their fight with each other will be interupted by John Cenas music. Cena will attack everybody, get beat down - then Taker will come down and clean house taking out Barrett and his accomplices.
