WWE RAW Super Special Awesome Show 10/10/2011 - No Commentators and Six Wrestlers

I don't think you could fill 2 hours with only four people, without making your audience grow bored. Overexposing your top guys is not a good idea.

By the way, I think the commentary is better without JR. Have thought so for years. Now if we could only get JBL to come back, then a team with Cole, King and JBL would be excellent.
King has been useless for years and is only there for his paycheck. Cole is very talented but his heel shtick is becoming played out and while I still find him entertaining at times, he's capable of taking away from matches with his tirades. JR was the only member of the team who consistently focused on the match instead of getting into dumb arguments all the time.

Now, a JBL return? Sign me up for that one.

I do think you have to consider what guy you want a lot of exposure to. Some of them are much more interesting and/or what they are doing are much more interesting than others. Punk proved this year that he isn't really the guy you want all over the show because he ran out of shit to say fast. Last year, Cena/Wade's angle was all over the show and it was great. :)

Punk ran out of shit to say because they had him cutting the same promos every week. Now people are complaining because he's not cutting generic internet-laced promos, and is instead actually wrestling and doing things that are relevant to the storyline's progression.

JR is a shell of his former self, and he brought nothing to the show. JBL would add a dynamic to Cole and King that would completely change the commentary. Cole could be heel, but JBL would have the edge because he's bigger than Cole and wouldn't put up with his crap. King and JBL would have difference of opinions, and I think JBL would force King to up his game.

JBL was a slight heel color commentator, but he was more of a "who do I respect" commentator. The dynamic he would create with the other two would be unpredictable and a great way to pass the time during Divas matches.

He isn't as good as he once was but I wouldn't say that he brought nothing to the show. He brought stability to it, and constantly refocused on what was going on in the ring while the other two morons were arguing about nothing. I do agree with you that JBL coming back would save it. I just don't want it to be only King and Cole again, because we've seen that that's a recipe for disaster and headaches.

This might sound crazy, but given the way the story is going, I think I have the perfect person to join the commentary team...........Kevin Nash.

Hear me out on this one. Nash is clearly an ally with Laurinitis as he's been shown with him numerous times and even left with him when he was "fired". Now, we're probably expecting him to come back now to do dirty work for the new GM, and that will probably happen, but I'd be more than happy to see him put on the headset. Back in TNA, Nash and Booker did commentary for a day when the Main Event Mafia took over Impact. When that happened, I felt that Booker sounded ridiculous while Nash sounded better than the normal Impact commentators. I think he has definite potential as an announcer but since Booker wanted to do that more, he's the one to make the transition first. Why not Nash though? Certainly he would bring a unique perspective and when not trying to compete with Punk can speak pretty well.

JBL is a longshot so I'm making a more realistic suggestion here. I think Nash would do quite well as a commentators, storyline or not. I'd rather see him there than gingerly hopping guard rails to be an "enforcer".

If Nash's recent mic work is anything to go by, I don't want him anywhere NEAR the commentary table.

If they're going to bring in an outside guy to fill the presumed third spot, Sly's suggestion of JBL is the best solution.

At the very least they could have Josh do both shows again or promote Regal to Raw.

So when you said:

"HHH could have premiered some new guys ("new tag team called "scabs" or "Dey Took Our Jobs!"). HHH could have brought in a bunch of cheap labor "Mexican" and "Asian" workers to fill in time"

You weren't talking about jobbers, no-names and inexperienced workers?

What's the benefit to that? Let's assume your top guys take up 40 minutes of your 2 hour and 5 minute show. Why are you going to waste the other 85 minutes on people you'll never make money on? Not only would the be less enjoyable, there would be no benefit either. Just so you can have an interesting angle the last 5 minutes of the show?

Yes, one which wastes 85 minutes of precious TV time on guys who will never make you money again. One in which 85 minutes is wasted on guys nobody knows or cares about. What's the benefit to that?

And let's not forget their obligation to the people who paid to attend the show. Do you think those fans paid to watch no-names and guys they don't care about? Do you think they wanted to watch scabs and cheap labor? Of course not. They bought their tickets to see the WWE, not ROH (sorry, cheap shot).

No, the WWE made the right decision to end the walk out when they did.

Yes, if you assume an 85-40 split of no names to top stars you are likely to have a terrible show that would not fulfill your promise to the paying audience. You can quote one piece of what I said but that is not close to what I am suggesting.

Did we really need to spend time furthering KK/Phoenix? Couldn't Orton/Rhodes and Show/Henry been furthered on SD? Did JR really need to be fired to establish Johnny Ace as a heel?

There were so many options for a different type of Raw:

- top draw (Cena)
- other top stars that were not part of the walkout (Orton, Show, Sheamus, Punk)
- have Kelly Kelly announce to see if she can remember a few basic lines or at least read
- a new star or two (one star could have Jomo's spot soon)
- some local jobbers
- some stars cross the line
- alumni that live in the area or are working backstage
- have a segment where Show mentions he has no one to wrestle, HHH says go to the ring I have an idea, after commercial break have HHH kidnap and drag one of the walkouts to the ring for a squash
- have your top guys in the audience signing autographs when they are not wrestling
- backstage skit where Truth & Miz comically join the walkouts and complain about safety

The benefit to dragging out the walkout for most of the show is that it keeps me wanting to watch the show to see what happens next. What they did last night made me change the channel to Bears-Lions.

I know wrestling is for kids. I am not their target audience and they need to further storylines and feuds for the next PPV. But they have a better chance of benefitting from a show that people actual continue watching as opposed to furthering a couple of storylines. Maybe we will know when the ratings breakdown comes out.
