WWE RAW 1/2/2012 - itbegins...with Punk vs. Ziggler

My grandmother tripped and fell as the seventh quarter hour of Raw was starting. She called me for assistance but I neglected her because Chris Jericho was returning and I wanted to see what he'd do.

I may eventually come to terms with myself for making the choice I did. But I can never forgive him.

A lot of people talked about 9/11.

Must have been pretty fucking awesome.

Good and bad is a perspective. People talking about 9/11 is exactly what the people behind it wanted. It's hard to spread messages via terror if nobody gives a fuck. Therefore, 9/11 was effective. So was that segment. Love it or hate it, you have opinion and you feel strongly enough to argue about the segment. Job done by WWE.

Ill say this:

"It Began" tonight. This wasn't designated as the payoff, the emphasis was on it beginning tonight. it's simply the beginning of something bigger. To those disappointed: I'd venture a guess that the vast majority of you will be tuning in next week to see how Jericho's return develops. Personally, I found it to be well done. It gave us as fans a big return, yet gave away nothing about the character's intentions. If you're looking for instant gratification, you probably hated this. However, the only thing that matters is that WWE gave away another reason to continue watching, and then invest in whatever Jericho is doing.

So how was this not a success? Will you be watching next week, more specifically, will you be watching primarily for Jericho? If so, then mission accomplished.

- The Rock wrote to Chris Jericho on Twitter tonight after his return on RAW and hinted that the two may be working together soon. He wrote:

"@IAmJericho Helluva kick ass return. Welcome back my friend. Look forward to having some fun w you. #MongooseVsFuckFaceJones"

It didn't get Jericho booed and why is going from excited to bored a positive?

The point of wrestling is to get you emotionally invested. That segment got me very invested.

How anyone was confused by that segment I just don't get. It was obvious what was going on. The only reasons some people are confused are the reasons it want good. Those being it didn't succeed and it didn't fit the build. Thus, it doesn't interest you in next week, it just reminds me of what I dislike about the product.

Confusion as in "what the fuck is going on?" Now, you might have noticed several reactions like that in this thread. It worked because I was worked by it. End of story.

Don't know where this "mega heat" or "#1 heel" BS is coming from. At the end there was slight booing.

Shouldn't you be complaining that the shaky camera shots used before the lights went out was a total TNA ripoff or that there is no proof that Jericho has never used steroids?

And if he does the same thing next week or on Smackdown this week, the boos will get louder. When he decides to say something and trash the crowd, it will get louder.

I'm ignoring the second part since quite frankly, you've lost the credibility to determine good and bad with me long, long ago. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed watching him run around sarcastically and act like an idiot. I like the start, who knows what the payoff will be? But as opposed to just coming out and cutting a promo, like he and everyone else ALWAYS does, I think this was far more interesting.

As annoyed as I was, the Jericho return was great. But the whole "The End Begins" just still doesn't fit.

This is the point I was making earlier. Whether you liked the segment or not, or whether you were pleased that it was Jericho or you wanted it to be someone else, the point for me was, the return was out of synch with the videos. He was going to return to claim what was his, to punish the unjust (paraphrasing), it would be the end of the world which would be triggered when she said so. And we get a smiling Jericho high diving the crowd and celebrating. Granted, it may develop over the next few weeks and we may get more answers, but tonight's return for me simply did not jive with the tone of the videos.

Exactly, he wasn't even booed, the people in the arena weren't even mad.
I think he played the happy man a little too long and people got really confused.

Now to the corny as hell finish of the the main event. I kinda felt embarrassed my dad was around during the ending. The only other time I felt so embarrassed was when Hulk gave Abyss the HOF and Abyss got superpowers

Chris Jericho is an example of the glory-hogging old guard. He's no longer an up-and-comer looking to fight the establishment and leave his mark while cronies holds him down. He's one of the old boys club who comes back when it suits him to take a big cheque and the spotlight and leave the company high and dry afterwards.

Chris Jericho will be left behind.

Have you not been reading the comments all night, and how there is a good amount of people ABSOLUTELY pissed off about what he did? He did exactly what a heel was supposed to do, and he didn't say a single word. The whole point of the segment was to annoy people, get them pissed off, and get them confused, and by the end, that is exactly what happened. Granted, there was not a lot of booing at the end, mainly because people were standing around, wondering what the fuck was going on, however, he did get boos, and those will only grow as time goes on. He laid the groundwork for a heel turn tonight, and did it in a masterful way.

Habs has it with me. 12 minutes of "YAY LOOK I'M JERICHO!" all for "Fuck you, I'm going home". The whole promo was brilliant, but it does NOT fit with the videos. Next week's Jericho needs to be a lot darker.

I know but people were like " Jericho walks in with a mega pop walks out with mega heat" that's what i was responding to because he hardly got booed. The whole story shit is another thing i haven't even mentioned that.

I thought he would pick up the microphone and say hipocrites and leave

If I read one more idiot say that was masterful I might lose it. It would have been masterful if it worked. He didn't get it to work so it certainly wasn't masterful. Getting significantly more cheers than boos after 10 minutes of airtime is not how you lay the groundwork for a heel turn.

LMAO did you really just compare Jericho's non-promo to a fucking terrorist attack? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Predictable idiocy from you.

It's not about scale. It's about the fact that the number of people talking about an event is not proportional to how good it was, a point that is apparently lost on you.
