WWE NoC 2010 - General Discussion and Aftermath Thread

Here's the thing, though. You sort've answered your own question when it comes to Bryan earlier with your commentary on Punk/Show, specifically "wrestle someone he can actually grapple with".

When making that comment about the Punk/Show match, i meant someone he can actually lift off the ground and wouldn't be reduced to just kicking the guy for 70% of the match. Show could hang with guys like Lesnar and Angle back in the day, so he's not fust a big fat guy who punches a lot.

While Miz put on, in my opinion, a great show of picking up a couple submissions just to have an attempt at getting Bryan to tap in this match, he's by no means a mat wrestler. He's a striker.

I too was very much impressed with how far Miz seems to have come with his in ring ability.

For an established mat wrestler like Bryan to excel in that role, you really need someone else who KNOWS holds and how to break them,

I don't necessarily agree. Again, Angle could have decent matches with heavyweight strikers like Kane and Taker, not guys you would ever put in the 'mat wrestler' category.

At first i simply put it down to Bryan selling his arm injury, but then thought 'wait, this is pretty much the same as his Summerslam match, where his arm wasn't hurt....'

otherwise...you're just breaking them yourself all the time, and then you look stupid.

Or they could just use the ropes......

This was a good pay per view, very well booked compared to some of the shitfests displayed this year. IMO Tag Team Division needs to be sorted out. Maybe give the Nexus a run?

I was there live so my opinion might be a little biased but I thought overall it was a very good PPV live and I hope it showed up that way on TV.

Kofi vs. Dolph
This was a good opener to the show. The crowd was really behind Kofi, but I could care less which guy won. I thought for a moment there that Kofi was going to get DQ'ed with the 5 count. Good match and hopefully the last between the two for awhile.

CM Punk vs. Big Show
I thought Punk's mic work was great even though he still got cheers after it. I didn't know what they were going to have him say since he loves Chicago but is a heel, but he did it perfectly. The match had a good spot on the outside but overall I think its hard for both CM Punk and the Big Show to have a really good match with the size difference so it was what it was.

Miz vs. Daniel Bryan
I had big expectations coming into this match and it didn't disappoint, but it didn't really steal the show like some said it would. It was a really solid US Title match and its good to see Bryan get the win.

Divas Match
I have no problem with this match, it was actually pretty good for a divas match, especially compared to the horrible divas matches that we've seen lately. The lumberjills made for nice eye candy which is never a bad thing either.

Undertaker vs. Kane
This match was about what I expected it to be, nothing great but not horrible. I was probably more excited about this match seeing it live than those watching on PPV since it was the first time I actually got to see the Undertaker wrestler under his deadman gimmick. (I've seen him wrestle a couple times under the American Badass gimmick and the Raw after Elimination Chamber where he accpted HBK's challenge.) The fighting on the outside wasn't bad, but I would have liked to see someone go through the announcer's table. I'm fine with the ending though cause it didn't make the Undertaker look really weak, but weak enough to lose and continue the feud till HIAC.

Tag Team Turmoil
This was the only match that I really didn't like. I thought the Hart Dynasty should have been in there longer but oh well I'm fine with the new champs. Btw I thought Tyson Kidd was great on Raw last night going back and fourth with Cole, they should let him get on the mic more often.

Six Pack Elimination Match
I thought this match was perfectly done. It was a little predictable but it did a great job of advancing the Barrett/Cena and Orton/Sheamus feuds. Some multiple man matches can turn into spotfests and just have a couple guys in the ring at once, but I thought there was good interaction between all the guys. I loved the ending since I'm a huge Orton fan.

Overall I thought the PPV was very good. It flowed really well and imo was the second best PPV of the year so far behind WrestleMania. I thought it was way better than SummerSlam too. I'd give it a 8.5/10 and can't wait to get it on DVD.

Additional live notes

Before the show my friends and I were walking around and the Bella Twins, Miz, and CM Punk walked right by with their security guard. On our way back to our seats we saw a ref talking on his cell phone.

Since our seats were right in line with the pillars we could see behind the stage which was cool because we could see Jericho, Santino, and Heath Slater watching a TV back stage for most of the show.

Here's a couple pics I took on my iPhone from our seats:

Dolph Ziggler VS Kofi Kingston-Intercontinental Championship

Pretty good match between these two, and this was a great way to kick off the show. The struggle between these two involving the sleeper hold towards the end was great. I'm glad Dolph won this match, because now I believe he will hold on to the belt for a little bit longer. We also saw Kaitlyn try to help Dolph on the outside here. Vickie of course got in the way, and she sent her NXT rookie to the back. It'll be interesting to see how this storyline will further develop.

Edge says he'll win the WWWE championship.

CM Punk VS Big Show

We're in Chicago, so of course CM Punk came out to a HUGE pop. Although, the Straight Edge superstar managed to turn his hometown crowd against him very quickly. He got tons of heat in an instant, as he cut a brilliant heel promo that involved trashing his beloved state.

As far as the match goes.........why the fuck was this on a pay per view? We all knew Punk was going to lose here, because Show has dominated the SES for months now, so there was no reason to believe Punk had a chance. Yeah, Show hit a cool spear, and the knockout punch finish looked devastating, but why must Punk always be fed to the Big Show? This whole thing has just been overkill if you ask me. Seriously, wasn't Show beating the SES at Summerslam in a three on one handicap match enough?

Chris Jericho mentions his list of accolades, and you just know he had to mention becoming the first ever Undisputed Champion for the 10,000th time. He says he'll win the WWE championship.

Daniel Byran VS The Miz- United States Championship

Byran VS Miz had to be the best match of the night. Byran did an awesome job of selling of the arm injury, and the crowd erupted when The Miz tapped out. I think Byran will hold on to the US title for a good while, because the WWE title is up next for The Miz.

An over the top video package is shown for Hell In A Cell.

John Cena cuts a promo. He gets one of his typical mixed reactions.

Michelle McCool VS Melina- Lumberjill Match

McCool becoming the first ever Unified Divas Champion really doesn't surprise me. LayCool is the hottest thing in WWE as far as the women's division goes, but did McCool really have to win with a big boot here? I mean she was about to become the first ever Unified Divas Champion, and I think the Faith Breaker would've helped put more of an exclamation point on this moment. Also, Layla helping McCool here surprised me. I thought LayCool was on the verge of being done after Michelle rigged the drawing on Smackdown. I thought this match was pretty solid, and LayCool will probably hold on to the belts for a good amount of time.

Wade Barrett says he's the future of the WWE.

Kane VS The Undertaker-World Heavyweight Championship

I wasn't too excited about Undertaker VS Kane 2010 at first, but their match here was fun to watch. Things started off with a bang as Taker attacked kane at the entrance ramp. Now things did kind of fall flat for a little while here, but watching Undertaker leap over the barricade was cool. This spot kind of reminded me of his over the top rope dive to the outside, which we usually only see at Wrestlemania. Kane retaining here wasn't a shock, because we all know that this feud will continue. I expect Taker to take the title at Hell In A Cell, and then maybe this whole thing will end at Bragging Rights or Survivor Series.

Orton stays quiet about the main event. He's wearing a new t-shirt. It looks horrible.

Tag Team Turmoil-Unified Tag Team Titles

So the Harts were the first to go, and I really scratched my head when this happened. They did have a lengthy reign as tag champs, and I thought they would make it to the end. Drew and Cody winning here doesn't surprise me, because you could kind of see this coming after their win over the Harts on Smackdown Friday. Drew and Cody really don't have the look of a true tag team, but hopefully they will have some sort of identity as time goes on. I'm not usually a fan of gauntlet style matches, but the tag team turmoil was okay.

More Alberto Del Rio hype. They mesh all of his vignettes together.

Edge VS Chris Jericho VS Sheamus VS Randy Orton VS John Cena VS Wade Barrett- Six Pack Challenge

This wasn't the gigantic clusterfuck that I thought it would be. The six pack challenge featured some fast paced action here and there. Randy Orton winning the title was kind of obvious. WWE made sure to build him up in a huge way before this pay per view, and he is over as over can be right now. I thought Barrett might win here because the Nexus is set to end soon, and Hell In A Cell is only two weeks away, so Barrett holding the strap for a short amount of time could've worked. I don't see Randy losing the title anytime soon. The Miz will cash in his briefcase, but I think we're going to have to wait a little bit longer to see it.

Night Of Champions wasn't a great show, but it delivered. This card featured some good and solid matches. I kind of wish The Harts would've faced Cody and Drew in a regular tag team match, and Punk VS Show should not have been on this pay per view.
