WWE HIAC 2010 Aftermath & Discussion Thread

Before reading this, please take into account I agree with basically nothing written by "pardontheinterruption." I feel I need to add this because I am replying to something Doc was replying (tearing a new asshole) to.

Also, Sheamus was the one putting all the work into that second match. Orton was sandbagging it and phoning it in the whole way through. Just unprofessional.

I usually agree with most of what you say Doc, but this just isn't true. I know you're a huge Orton-hater (and yes, I'm a huge Orton mark), but come on. I think you are letting your hatred for him/his character/whatever get the better of you. I watched this match, and both guys busted their asses out there, for well over 20 minutes. Was it a great match? No. But this is usually what you get with two brawlers; a brawl. Orton has a slower pace, as does Sheamus. Not sure how you came to the conclusion Orton "phoned" it in.

I thought for the most part this was a pretty good PPV. Taker/Kane wasn't anything special, about what you'd expect out of both men. Percy turning on Taker was a bit unexpected.

For only having two weeks to put this together, it came off rathe well I would say. I would give it a B+.

Ok well IMO the show itself was great, 4/5. There wasn't an excess of matches and every one that was on the card was either solid or significant.

Triple Threat: This was the match I was looking forward to most and it delivered. Miz came off dominant for the first time that i'd seen but even so every competitor looked strong and worthy to hold the title. Strong match. 4/5

Raw Cell: I loved this match. Everything just worked. Orton and Sheamus work great togethor, they sold everything greatly and they're ring positioning was perfect, they were in the prime position for every part of the match. The irish curse whilst ontop of the steps was abit pointless unless he had of dropped randy on the steps themselves though. 4/5 (IMO for all you that don't like it)

Edge/Swagger: Whilst it was obviously a filler i found this to actually be quite a good match, better than most ive seen lately. There was alot of back and forth and a variety of moves were used. 3/5

Barrett/Cena: I was so pleased with this match, I wasn't sure how it would work out but wow, Barrett, even in his inexperience, delivered a great, great performance. He really showed why he is the leader of the Nexus and even though the ending wasn't great Barrett's showing sold it to me. 4/5. We'll probably see Nexus grow with the season 2 rookies leading to Smackdown and Raw vs. Nexus at Bragging Rights

Nattie/McCool: What can you say. Not great. Not as bad as most diva's matches. Natalya was dominant which I liked but she really didn't deserve a title shot, i've wanted to her to get a push as i like her as a diva but she hasn't wreslted much at all lately. 2.5/5

Kane and Taker: Dissapointing to say the least. It was significant for their fued but the match itself was so boring it wasn't funny. We didn't see any real moves just strikes and finishers. It's sad because ive always loved kane and these two can both perform amazingly but never seem to be able to togethor. Bearor's turn was incredibly unsespected which made it a little more interesting but still a boring cell match and a bad end to an amazing opening of the show. Hopefully these two legends put it all in for the final match. 3/5

I'll keep it brief.....

US Title Triple Threat Submission Anywhere

-Surprised this started the show, thought one of the Cells would tbh, but whatever.
-Apparently JoMo has fully embraced the Jeff Hardy method of getting over, where he'll simply jump off of something unneccessarily, in hopes that the 2 second pop he gets will lead to a ME run. Maybe after 10 years of stupid bumps John...... maybe.
- Once this match moved into the crowd, it reminded me of all the old HHH/Rock or Austin/HHH or Austin/Rock matches from the Attitude Era, where they'd fight in the crowd all the time.
-Favourite sequence for me had to be JoMo hitting his springboard kick off the stands, and then getting mowed down by Miz with the..... whatever it was, the equipment container or whatever.
- I'm liking that Miz doesn't tap straight away to Bryan. The fact that he actually lies there and suffers for a few seconds before finally giving up. I hate it when heels are in submissions for less than 2 seconds and they tap.
- A Ri being thrown into the camera man..... classic.

Overall, really enjoyable match, hopefully we'll see Bryan in a 1 - 1 match next PPV. I mean surely he should be having a match against Dolph Ziggler, his SD mid-card champion equivalent, maybe?

WWE Title HIAC

Don't bother getting your panties in a twist because no one bled or flew off the Cell. That'll never happen again. The Cell is higher than it's ever been, they will NOT allow bumps off the top of it.

HIAC matches are now glorified hardcore matches with a Cage around it. But this isn't something new people, it's been like this for at least 6 years now, so why bother whining about it?

That aside.....

-Decent back and forth match, but yes i must agree, typical Raw Orton/Sheamus match, just with a few weapon spots here and there.
- I'm really not getting this bizarre tweener role of Orton's. Why are people cheering him? He's purposely putting wrestlers on the injured list. Did Austin or Rock ever do that? Sure they hit people with their finishers for no reason, but they didn't intentionally put people on the shelf, just for the pure hell of it. This is another example of where they completely contradict their wonderful little PG bubble they've built up. No one bleeds and no one swears or mentions sex, but it's ok for gangs to beat up old men, and to punt people in the skull, risking permanent brain damage. Enjoy kids!
-Made no real sense for Sheamus to win here so logical win for the Viper, i just hope that's it and both of these guys can move on. Again, Orton v Kane next PPV perhaps? Would sure as hell be better than these two in their 4th or 5th PPV match this year don't you think?

Interpromotional Match

-No Edge, what's stupid is this pathetic method they're using to turn you into another tweener/face. I didn't find any of that segment entertaining at all, and quite frankly, i hoped Edge was going to lose last night. He didn't need the win, the loss would probably have helped this whole Edge v GM situation a bit better, and Swagger could have used a win over someone who isn't MVP for once.
- Was it just me, or did the audience really not seem to care about this match..... or any of it, between Orton celebrating and Barrett coming out, for that matter?
- What made me laugh was Striker banging on about Edge's achilles tendon, and then Swagger goes and does something that by all rights, should have ripped Edge's leg to shreds. Edge goes for an enziguri while Swagger executes a DragonScrew in the opposite direction, and you could tell even Swagger thought 'i just seriously fucked Edge's leg up.'
- Decent match that served only to get Edge on the card and help undermine Swagger that little bit more really, nothing more, nothing less.

Cena v Barrett

-I hate it when people have backstage segments where they claim they have some kind of master plan, and then you see absolutely no evidence of it in the actual match. What was the point of Nexus coming out there? Seriously? If they had done ANYTHING, Cena would have won. The locker room didn't need to do anything, because again, if Nexus had done anything, Cena would have won. Were they there to cause a distraction? Again, why would Cena even pay attention to them, if any interference BY them results in him instantly winning? There was no point to them coming out, just to get beaten up.
- Solid match. This was probably my most enjoyable Cena match in some time. Barrett performed very well, and Cena showed some more variety in his in-ring skills again, and apart from that one part with Nexus coming out for nothing, this was played out perfectly! Ok, i too am getting a little fed up of people jumping in from the crowd, or masked men running in, but it's about damn time someone was actually forced to join a stable. Should have happened with Rey and the SES earlier in the year, but i'll settle for Cena in Nexus instead. For the first time in a LOOOOOOONG time, i'm actually excited to see where a Cena angle is going.

Divas Match

-Again, decent match, much better than watching Melina anyway, but seriously? Throwing a shoe? Was that done JUST so Striker could get the Austin Powers reference in? I understand the need for DQ victories, but i hate it when it's something truly pathetic like, 'the ref tripped while he was admonishing someone, so they got DQ'd.'
Ok, throwing a shoe is nothing like that, it's more akin to a chair shot, except it's nowhere near as impressive and if you blinked you might very well have missed it altogether.

World Title HIAC

-The Paul Bearer heel turn was only unexpected if this is the first time you've seen a Taker/Kane fued. If Paul Bearer is under contract when these two fued, he will betray one of them. It happens EVERY FUCKING TIME.
- A blinding light from the urn distracts Taker but 30 seconds later, it doesn't hurt Kane's eyes? THAT, was stupid.
- Typical Taker/Kane match although i must say Kane is still putting on great matches compared to say, the matches he was putting on last year. This World Title run has motivated Glen to putting on the best matches he possibly can, and i for one, haven't seen a Kane match i didn't enjoy since he won the belt.
- I'm guessing at Bragging Rights, if they don't do Champ v Champ, it'll be Taker/Kane Buried Alive, where again, Taker will lose and return to face Kane at Mania for the 3rd time.

Decent PPV overall, enjoyable matches.

First match i really enjoyed, WWE Title match was a slight improvement over their previous matches but only due to the weapon spots really, Impromptu match fell flat i felt but Swagger put on another good showing, Cena/Barrett was probably my favourite match (God, never thought i'd type that), run of the mill Divas match, and a ME where then ending could be seen a mile away (by anyone with a long term memory).

Roll on Bragging Rights!

Hell in a Cell 2010
Date: October 3, 2010
Location: American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas
Commentators: Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, Matt Striker

This is being written the morning after the show aired so I do know the results before the review is written. The two week “build” for this show makes me think it’s going to suck. We also only have five scheduled matches for tonight so there wasn’t much to set up coming into last night. The Cell should be enough to make the show draw is what WWE is thinking I guess but the buyrates would beg to differ. Let’s get to it.

Guess what the video is about. Just take a guess.

The set looks cool as it has a bunch of stuff designed to look like a Cell wall. I like that.

US Title: Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz vs. John Morrison

Apparently this is a submissions only match even though the name is just submissions count anywhere so it’s a bit misleading. Pretty clear Bryan is going to retain here even though he comes out second. Miz has the jacket back again too along with a mic. He’s called the Kenny Powers of the show and since he’s one of my favorite posters that’s a good sign. Miz says without him no one would know who the other guys are. He might be onto something there actually.

Both faces chase Miz to start us off and we get the standoff. Bryan gets a leg lock on him after a nice little wrestling sequence and we go to the floor without it being broken. That’s a nice little touch. We hit the formula of two guys fighting while the other is down. Morrison hits the Tarantula but Bryan makes the save. He then locks in Cattle Mutilation for like 4 seconds which probably blew up the IWC even though it wasn’t anything that special. A leg bar gets a bigger pop if that tells you anything.

Miz grabs a similar hold in an attempt to counter and they kick each other in the face a lot. Morrison hits Starship Pain (not called that for some reason) onto both guys to break it up. Haas of Pain (LOVE that hold) by Morrison is broken up by Miz. Corkscrew plancha hits (and I use that term VERY loosely) Miz and we head into the crowd. Miz gets a wristlock and Morrison breaks it up by punching Miz in the face. That’s always awesome.

Bryan is gone and in the ring for a good while here as the former tag team fights up the stairs. Miz gets a sick looking Dragon Sleeper type hold around a barricade and Bryan makes the save. I know I say that a lot but that’s what we’re getting a lot of: a hold for a few seconds and a save. We fight up to the stage a bit with Miz in control. Morrison throws Miz behind the stage and uses the barrier for a springboard to kick Bryan.

Miz literally shoves an anvil case at Morrison to take him down. This is kind of hard to call as it’s not quite a mess but there’s no flow to it in sight. Bryan is more or less dead on the stage after Miz shoves him on the anvil case. We get it: Morrison does some French training. You don’t have to explain it to us every 9 seconds. Skull Crushing Finale to Morrison on the floor and he’s out cold.

Bryan and Miz get into a wrestling sequence on the stage and it’s a double clothesline. Morrison is up somehow and climbs up the lighting grid and climbs onto the Cell set. BIG ASS DIVE takes both of them out. How often do you get a THAT WAS AWESOME chant in WWE? See what happens when you have the young guys do their exciting stuff? Jomo gets a Texas Cloverleaf on Miz but here’s Riley for the save. A cameraman gets taken out giving us the eternally fun camera shot. Miz goes after Bryan while Riley has Morrison preoccupied and walks into the LeBell Lock for the tap out.

Rating: B-. Fun here but the quality was a bit weak. I absolutely don’t get the point of the submissions count everywhere aspect but it wasn’t horrible or anything. It was rather spotty at times but never boring which is the point of an opener. This was a pretty solid match and things seemed to work well enough. The big spots got the crowd going which is the best thing they could have done. Best possible choice for an opener.

Cole admits Bryan is for real. He toned down the Miz love in this match and it helped a lot. The repetition of stuff isn’t his fault for the most part though so I can’t blame him for that.

Ad for Legendary. I’m surprised this is the first one since we’re almost 25 minutes into the show.

We recap Orton vs. Sheamus, which really shows how stupid it is to have a Cell match for the sake of having a Cell match. Consider the first two matches. The idea of Michaels vs. Taker was that Shawn kept escaping Taker or having help from him. Shawn’s psychology in that match is some of the best ever as he was running the whole time and getting in shots where he could. It was like he was trapped in hell and this was Taker’s ultimate revenge.

The second was Mankind vs. Taker where the idea was they absolutely hated one another. The match happened so that they could absolutely annihilate each other and one man would not leave the Cell on his own. Those matches WORKED. This match is happening between two guys that aren’t fond of each other but are having this match because the schedule says we need to have it. Cena vs. Barrett could have a point to it as that feud has been going on for months. Taker vs. Kane belongs in there. This should be last man standing or a regular cage match or something, not Hell in a Cell.

Raw World Title: Randy Orton vs. Sheamus

This Cell is taller and a bit more narrow. This stat sums things up very well: last year’s HIAC show was on October 4 so in one year we’ve had 5 Hell in Cell match. In thirteen years prior to that we had 16. That sums up this era better than anything I can tell you. Also tell me how this sounds: Sheamus is in a Hell in a Cell match. I like Sheamus but he DOES NOT belong on this level yet.

Another interesting stat: Orton is the only person to ever win the title inside the Cell. That’s rather surprising actually. Yeah they cover themselves by saying Orton is the only person to win the WWE Title in there. Unify the damn belts already. Having two world champions is so freaking stupid sounding. Also there is a Hell in a Cell match second on the card. Does this just sound wrong to anyone else?

Loud RKO chant to start. I didn’t know there were so many old movie fans in today’s audience. Striker talks about speaking with HHH via e-mail. Holy subtle hint Batman! Yeah I’m stretching here since the first 15 minutes of this aren’t going to mean anything since this isn’t going to end quickly at all. We head to the floor for about a second and the stomping begins for two. NICE slingshot shoulder block by Sheamus to take out Orton.

Orton gets rammed into the cage on the floor and Sheamus breaks out the steps. Now Orton gets a shot with them and we head back into the ring. There’s no heat to this at all as it just doesn’t belong in there. It’s a glorified street fight with a cage thrown in for fun. Striker explains why the ribs are a good thing for Sheamus to go after since the RKO is a bit weaker if the ribs are hurt.

Turnbuckle is ripped off as Sheamus is in control. He gets a gutbuster onto the steps which have gotten far more focus in this match than the cage so far. And now, in a match based around terror and chaos and pain, we get an EVIL chinlock. Cole points out that Orton is the champion and Sheamus is the challenger. Well usually when one is champion the other is the challenger so at least he can follow basic concepts. He’s reached the level of an average 4 year old!

Orton makes his comeback and the fans get behind him again. The crowd is rather hot here which is a very good thing and is helping this match along. They want an RKO apparently. Backbreaker out of nowhere and Orton slaps the mat. Make sure there’s an orthopedic specialist in the building! There come the stairs again as Striker points out how stupid it is to use the steps when he’s surrounded by steel.

Orton counters again and hits a powerslam on the steps. IT’S NOT A DAMN SCOOP SLAM COLE! It’s good for two either way. The elevated DDT on the steps of course doesn’t hit but the one on the floor sort of does. RKO is blocked and Orton hits the post. This isn’t a bad match but it’s just boring for a Cell match. Make this a street fight and it’s far better. Irish Curse, the backbreaker, hits on the steps. It’s on Sheamus’ knee though so do the steps make that big of a difference?

Brogue Kick gets two and Sheamus’ face is AWESOME looking as his eyes bug completely out. A bunch of chair shots get two. A big chair shot misses and Orton gets the RKO to pop the crowd. The pale one rolls to the floor though so we don’t get a cover. Punt misses and there’s a second Brogue Kick on the floor. We’re just transitioning from move to move here with nothing in between it. RKO on the steps ends it. I’d buy that a lot more if Sheamus’ head actually hit the steps but you can’t have it all I guess.

Rating: D+. For a street fight this is about a B or a B+. For a Hell in a Cell match this is just ok at best. It was a street fight (and a good one) inside the Cell. That doesn’t mean it’s good for what it was supposed to be. This was supposed to be a huge war inside the Cell and by definition, hell. This wasn’t the case here and while the match wasn’t horrible at all, this should NOT have been a Cell match. Like I said, make this a street fight without the Cell and it’s VERY good.

Orton climbs the Cell afterwards and poses with the belt. Cole wants it renamed the Viper’s Playground. Striker in a near deadpan voice: “Not yet.” Striker is the voice of reasoning. That’s almost scary.

Ad for Bragging Rights ad. It’s in three weeks. OH JOY! It’s also the night after a Lesnar fight. Yeah that’s not going to bomb at all. Nexus is advertised for it too.

Josh has the NXT girls in the back and they’re asked if they’re nervous. Nexus interrupts them thank goodness.

Alberto’s ring announcer brings him out. Again, his announcer has an announcer. That’s saying a lot. I do wonder where they get these cars. Cole wants to have his babies I think. Lawler wants to know if he can push 1 for English. That was rather amusing for a change. Alberto talks about beating up Rey and Christian. Gee wouldn’t Rey vs. Alberto be nice tonight? Some basic hometown sports jokes don’t really work.

Cue Edge’s music as Cole complains. Striker says Edge has over a dozen championships. He has over two dozen but why play him up I guess? Yeah he’s a face now. Edge runs down the stupid things Alberto has done which are rather true. They get into a Spanglish argument of all things. A Canadian is arguing with a Mexican in an American ring. The first W is indeed correct. And here comes the All American-American. HE MADE THE SAME JOKE I DID!

Swagger points out that the mascot on Smackdown was in fact a human and not a real eagle. Could they please decide if he’s a serious or comedy character? Swagger jumps him and Alberto bails. We have an e-mail and this is a match now. The computer has been upgraded it seems. Edge has to make a public apology tomorrow on Raw but this is a match right now.

Jack Swagger vs. Edge

Good thing Edge was in his wrestling gear. Swagger dominates to start as he had an advantage before we started. Swagger goes for the ankle which makes sense twice because of Edge’s ankle injury and the ankle lock. He keeps Edge on the mat and is in complete control. We hit the apron and Swagger tries to hit a German to the floor. Add that to the international joke from earlier.

When that of course doesn’t work because it would nearly kill Edge he switches to an abdominal stretch using the ropes. Edge’s eye is swollen up. Ankle lock is attempted as we touch on the ankle injury again which Lawler almost sarcastically says you told us that already. Edge gets us to even but gets caught in the ankle lock on the floor. The running up the corner belly to belly is blocked as Edge hits a missile dropkick, which is a pure face move.

Kind of an odd match here. It’s certainly not bad but it’s not that great for some reason. Belly to belly by Swagger but his arm is hurt. Swagger might be bleeding from the mouth a bit. Vader Bomb misses and Edge gets the Edgecution. Spear misses and Swagger gets the powerbomb for TWO. I don’t remember anyone ever kicking out of that. I think they mistime something as Swagger goes for a Dragon Screw Leg Whip while Edge goes for an Enziguri, making it look AWFUL. Ankle lock goes on but Edge gets a quick counter and spear for the pin. That ended very fast after the knee thing so maybe they were just playing it safe.

Rating: C-. Nothing that great here but it was VERY refreshing to see a match between the two shows. This is a fresh match we haven’t seen before and it wasn’t that bad. It was far better than seeing the same guys fighting again as it actually wasn’t predictable. That’s something WWE is sorely lacking anymore and switching the rosters up dramatically could work wonders for them. Match was a high level TV match.

Otunga has a plan to help Barrett.

Recap the Nexus angle which I’m sure you’re all familiar with by now.

John Cena vs. Wade Barrett

If Barrett loses Nexus is disbanded. If Cena loses he has to join the Nexus. It’s kind of amazing that this is I believe his 5th singles match and his first PPV singles match. You can’t say they’re not pushing this guy to the moon. Long feeling out period to start us off here. Cena gets his dropkick for his first big offensive maneuver. Barrett drops an F Bomb but not an audible one.

We slug it out a bit and Cena sets for the FU but Slater comes out as a distraction. Barrett throws the Nexus out which is an interesting touch. Barrett controls and hits a second rope elbow drop for two. Their colors are now black and gold instead of black and yellow. Neckbreaker gets two as Barrett is finally getting to showcase his offense. This is already his longest match and it’s not even 8 minutes long.

Dueling chants begin and you can tell it’s mainly men shouting for Barrett and higher pitched voices chanting for Cena. Cena makes his comeback and he initiates his finishing sequence. Nexus surrounds the ring as the definition of interference is getting kind of shaky here. Big Show comes out and leads the charge of the locker room who come out to beat down Nexus. It says a lot when it takes about 15 people including Big Show to beat up four glorified jobbers. And it’s not jobbers coming out to beat them up. You have guys like Show, Kofi, Ziggler, Bryan, Hart Dynasty and MVP, as in former and current champions.

Wasteland is blocked and this is a pretty solid back and forth match. Also it’s good that they got rid of the Nexus about halfway through. FU is blocked and Barrett hits a butterfly suplex for two. Boss Man Slam gets two. Fameasser off the top is blocked the first time but Cena gets it for two. Barrett gets Wasteland out of nowhere for two. Cole is WAY into this. Lawler says something and I had forgotten he was there.

FU hits out of nowhere for two as we’re into the good part of this match now. STF goes on as Cena looks extra quick here. Cole is SCREAMING at Barrett to tap out. A planted fan runs into the ring, allowing the guy that appears to be Husky Harris to pop up and blast Cena in the head, allowing Barrett to get the pin and kill the souls of millions of children. This is likely Otunga’s plan, which he didn’t run past Barrett.

Rating: B. Solid match here with the ending working rather well. The Nexus wasn’t really involved all that much here and it helped a lot I thought. Barrett looked VERY impressive out there with a nice offensive moveset and solid ring presence. This was better than I expected and things worked very well here. Good match and it sets up some stuff for the show in the upcoming weeks. Also Harris and potentially another member joining is a good thing. Good match.

Nexus puts Barrett on their shoulders as the celebration is on. On a replay the fan that distracted things appears to be Michael McGillicutty but I can’t tell for sure. The fan that hit Cena was definitely Harris but he’s not named. Cena takes a long time to leave and various ages of fans are STUNNED.

Paper Jamz ad, the same from….two weeks ago.

Josh is in the back and runs into Paul Bearer. He cuts a short and cryptic promo about having his own master plan.

Make-A-Wish package from Smackdown.

Divas Title: Michelle McCool vs. Natalya

Michelle looks good in her gold shorts if nothing else. Striker tries to claim Michelle is the best in ring working woman ever. I’m not even going to make a joke about that because it’s not fair to make fun of people that stupid. Michelle dominates for a bit with leg based offence but Natalya takes over with power stuff. This is rather boring if you couldn’t tell. Michelle accidently drills Layla and Natalya gets a rollup for two. Sharpshooter goes on, is countered into a heel hook and is countered again. Then Layla throws in her shoe for the DQ.

Rating: D-. Yeah I don’t care either. Boring match and not very good.

Recap of Taker vs. Kane which I’m sure you know by now also.

Smackdown World Title: Kane vs. Undertaker

Taker coming out with Paul Bearer just feels….right. They brawl outside of the Cell to start and Kane controls. Apparently this is before the match starts. Ah there we go. There’s the bell. Kane gets a chair from under the ring and beats the hell out of Taker. We fight on the floor again and this is more of a brawl than a match WHICH IS THE FUCKING IDEA. Lots of leg work by Kane which makes sense here.

A big boot eats cage though and Kane is in trouble. Taker hits the leg drop on the apron but Kane gets his low dropkick. The boo/yay stuff starts up as this is kind of a boring match. Old School is attempted so Kane hits him in the leg. Top rope clothesline connects but Taker grabs Hell’s Gate. Kane clearly taps but no one calls it. It’s not completely on and Kane gets to the floor to escape.

We get a double sit up and Taker’s eyes are awesome. More boo/yay stuff as neither can get control. Running DDT by Taker gets two. Chokeslam hits for Taker as his knee is fine all of a sudden. Kane does the same for two. Kane goes for ten punches in the corner, you know the counter, and it gets two as well. WOW that was a horrible powerbomb. Kane reverses a Tombstone into one of his own and the crowd is into it.

And there’s an uppercut for the slow counting referee. The referees come down to get him out so Bearer can slip inside. Bearer goes after Kane and Taker sits up. He gets another chokeslam and does the throat slit sign. The lightning and thunder kick on and a light comes out of the urn. Bearer shines it in Taker’s eyes and we have a standoff. Bearer of course hands it to Kane and Taker, like the idiot that he is, stands there and gets his head bashed in by Kane who hits a chokeslam to retain. A closeup of his face on the ramp ends the show.

Rating: D. Just like the previous match this was a horrible Cell match but not a terrible match overall. The problem again is the lack of violence and the lack of use of the Cell. However this one was even weaker in those areas than the first one, somehow making Sheamus vs. Orton far better. As I said that one would have been a very good street fight but this would have been boring no matter what.

These two getting 20+ minutes is just not a good idea. Their best match ever was two weeks ago when it was just a big freaking brawl. Them trying to have psychology in their matches and the leg work is always bad and this was no exception. For once though the heel turn makes sense so points for that. Seriously though, how stupid is Taker for trusting Bearer AGAIN? Did he say, “Hey Paul, sorry about that whole burying you alive stuff. We’re solid right?” The heel turn was logical here so I’m fine with that at least. Rating would have been about the same Cell or no Cell.

Overall Rating: B-. This show wasn’t great but it certainly wasn’t boring. They had a show here where stuff kept happening the whole three hours and it worked pretty well I thought. The double Cell thing is still incredibly stupid and them talking non-stop about how epic it was just made it worse but that’s to be expected. This looked like a disaster on paper but we got a solid show out of it. I don’t think it’s as great as people have said it was, but this worked FAR better than I expected it to. Fairly good show.

What did Orton do in the match? All he did was hit his spots and sell Sheamus' offence. Sheamus was the one doing all the work, actually using psychology, enabling the spots and pulling dumb shit out of his bag of tricks that he shouldn't need to. Hence why Doc said Orton was phoning it in because he was, and Sheamus had to go all out to counteract that.

could only catch the Taker-Kane hiac match. Not great but fairly enjoyable in comparison to the match in the previous ppv...still lacking tho. Besides Paul Bearers heel to is so predictable. Was waiting for it to happen during the whole match, would have been surprised if it didn`t. I mean, the moment he returned on Smack Down, it was pretty obvious to me...it is pretty much the use of the character in the Taker-Kane feuds. It has been one too many for a while now. It felt seriously underwhelming.

Miz VS Daniel Bryan VS John Morrison- Triple Threat Submissions Count Anywhere Match For The US Championship

Miz cuts a promo. He bashes Bryan and Morrison.

This was a good way to kick off the show. This match had tons of energy, and all three men really gave an amazing effort here. I was so excited to see Cattle Mutilation. Morrison's cross body off of the entrance structure was sick! The interference from Alex Riley was expected here, but I didn't have a big problem with it. I was happy to see Bryan retain here, and I hope he can hold on to the US title for a little bit longer, because he's having a good reign so far.

Randy Orton VS Sheamus-WWE Championship

Holy shit! Orton and Sheamus actually had a good match! I couldn't believe this. Both men did a good job using the cell here, and some of spots in this match looked so painful. Sheamus hit a nice diving shoulder block, and the way Sheamus attacked Orton's ribs/mid section looked very brutal. After the match, Orton posed on top of the cell with the belt. I didn't think Orton would lose this. I know Orton can be boring, and there's been a lot of complaints about his championship run so far, but there's no way that WWE was going to take the belt off of him so quickly. These long celebrations are starting to make me believe Orton is on his way to a long title run.

Alberto Del Rio Makes His Pay Per View Debut

Del Rio cuts a promo where he runs down Rey Mysterio again. Del Rio throws out an open challenge. Edge comes out looking frustrated. He complains about the GM, and then Jack Swagger interrupts. Swagger is still pissed at Edge for what happened on Friday. A little scuffle erupts, and the mystery GM interrupts. At this point, I had no idea where all of this was going......Anyway, the GM tells Edge he must issue a public apology to him tomorrow night on Raw, and then he or she makes Edge VS Swagger, which is up next.

Jack Swagger VS Edge

Outstanding match. There was some good back and forth action between these two. Watching Edge constantly escape the ankle lock added some suspense to the match. Edge's push seems to be continuing, and I think he should be given a second chance as face, because he can be very entertaining on the mic.

John Cena VS Wade Barrett

I thought Nexus was going to get involved when I saw them at ringside, but the WWE locker room came down to make the save. Cena becoming a member of Nexus was one of the shockers of the night. I couldn't make out the guy who climbed in the ring, but we all know the one who clocked Cena was Husky Harris. I thought this Nexus thing was going to end last night, but it didn't. Nexus was becoming kind of stale, so maybe John Cena can give them a spark. As far as the match goes, I thought it was really good. Both men really went all out in this one, and this was a pretty physical match. The constant kick outs towards the end had me on the edge of my seat, and I really couldn't tell who was going to win at that point. WWE teased Cena VS Barrett for a long time, and I think this match lived up to the hype.

Michelle McCool VS Natalya-Divas Championship

Layla's antics kind of killed this match for me. You knew there was a good chance she would get involved, and she did. The whole shoe throwing thing just really made me scratch my head. But hey, at least Natalya will get another shot at the Divas title. I thought the match was solid. McCool and Natalya are at the top of the list as far as women who can really go in the ring in WWE, so I look forward to seeing more matches between these two. Also, I imagine the matches with Layla could be worth watching. As long as she doesn't go overboard with the comedy stuff. On a side note, I hope WWE doesn't have a meaningless rematch for the title tonight on Raw. They did this same thing after Night Of Champions, and it would be a shame if they did it again here.

The Undertaker VS Kane-World Heavyweight Championship

This match was better than the match these two had at Night Of Champions. Taker looked good here, and he seems to be getting back in good wrestling shape now. Kane did a nice job working on Taker's knee. I thought this was over once Taker locked on the Hell's Gate, but Kane managed to cleverly squirm out of the hold. Towards the end of the match, the theatrics did go a little over the top, but you have to expect that in a feud like this, because the supernatural elements are such a HUGE factor. Paul Bearer turned on Taker by using a a light from the urn to blind him. This allowed Kane whack his brother with the urn, and he hits a chokeslam for the win. Taker VS Kane is probably going to end at Survivor Series, but this feud hasn't been bad so far. You can't expect these two to have a great match, and both of their encounters so far have been solid enough. Although, I'm not looking forward to the rumored Buried Alive match at Survivor Series.

I enjoyed this show. Both cell matches really surprised me, because I wasn't expecting too much from them, especially Orton VS Sheamus. The triple threat submission match was a great way to kick off the show, and almost every other match didn't disappoint. This show was a lot better than last year's Hell In A Cell PPV, and I'm actually glad I took a chance on this one.

The show kicks off with a display of Hell in A Cell, and an ominous voice talks as if he is the cell itself.....Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, and Matt Striker welcome us from ringside.....

1.Daniel Bryan(c) vs The Miz vs John Morrison in a submissions count anywhere match for the US Title

Bryan retained the title in about 14 minutes by making Miz submit on the stage to the LaBell Lock. The match quickly spilled out of the ring into the crowd, and Morrison showed off a few unique submission holds with his legs that appeared to be inverted body scissors. Morrison also hit the insane spot of the night with a cross body off the scaffolding onto both Miz and Bryan. Cool, but somehwat choreographed in appearance as both men just waited for Morrison to dive onto them. On the ground, Morrison applied a Texas Cloverleaf on Miz but was interrupted by Alex Riley, who kicked Morrison out of the picture. Riley was immediately run into a cameraman by Bryan, who struggled, then eventually applied, the LaBell Lock to Miz on the stage, who fought for a few seconds before tapping out.

(Very good opener that saw all three men bust their asses to entertain the crowd. The outcome was really never in doubt, but Morrison applied some unique submissions that were dramatic and appeared like they could garner realistic tapouts. my only complaint is Miz tapping again to Bryan, making him look weaker in the process. I thought Morrison was put into the match to submit so miz wouldnt have to. Otherwise, a fun opener.
***.5/5)

2. Randy Orton(c) vs Sheamus in a Hell in a Cell match for the WWE Championship

Orton retained the title in around 23 minutes with an RKO on the steel ringsteps that had been brtought into the ring by Sheamus. Sheamus had the advantage early, and did a nice job of working over Orton and ramming him into the cage. Orton sold his ribs the rest of the match. Orton hit a cool scoop slam on Sheamus in the center of the ring on the steel steps. Orton went back to selling, so Sheamus regained control, hitting the Irish Curse Backbreaker over, but not on, the steel steps. Weird spot.

Sheamus hit the brogue kick for a dramatic near fall shortly after. Frustrated, he went for a steel chair under the ring. Sheamus hit Orton over the back with it several time to gain another near fall. Sheamus went for a head shot, but Orton countered into the RKO, which lead to another great near fall.

The action went outside the ring, where Orton set up for the punt kick, but Sheamus avoided it and hit yet another great Brogue kick. Sheamus threw Orton back in the ring, but Orton kicked out at the last second. another eventful near fall. Sheamus set Orton up over the ring steps, bounced off the ropes, and Orton RKO'd him onto the steel steps for the pin. Orton climbed the cage afterwards to celebrate in a great visual.

(This match far exceeded my expectations, and was the best match between the two of them by far. The structure didn't add much to the match, but the lack of it didnt hurt it either. This may have been Sheamus' best match since joining the main roster period, and certainly his longest. Another match with a fairly predictable outcome, but the dramatic nearfalls and the way they built the match to its finish was spot on. Sheamus' brogue kicks looked brutal, as did Orton's decisive RKO onto the steel steps.

Tony Chimel introduced Alberto Del Rio's personal ring announcer, who introduced Del Rio. Del Rio said he wanted his first PPV to be memorable, and showed pictures of him with his dog from Smackdown on Friday. Edge interrupted shortly after,. continuing his mission to rid the WWe of all things stupid. He said he wasn't there to defend Mysterio or Christian, both of whom Del rio was bragging of having injured. Rather, he was on a mission to get rid of stupidity, and Del ERio's dog bit was stupid. Jack Swagger interrupted Edge, still angry over Edge interrupting his homecoming, and injuring his personal mascot. Del Rio and Swagger double teamed Edge, who disposed of Del Rio quickly and focused on Swagger, just as the anonymous GM chimed in and told Edge he would apologize to him on raw Monday night, and face Swagger right now.

(Disapointing segment, and a waste of Del Rios PPV debut. He wound up taking a backseat to Edge and Swagger. I guess they snuck it in there to order the issued apology from Edge, but couldnt that have been done the following night? They could have simply recapped the events between Swagger and Edge from Smackdown, and said the GM had ordered the match to spite Edge.)

3.Edge vs Jack Swagger

Edge pinned Swagger clean in 12 minutes. They fought early to the outside, where Swagger attempted to apply the ankle lock, but Edge twisted and flipped Swagger into the ring steps. Back in the ring, Edge hit a sweet missile dropkick for a good two count. Edge went to the top rope again, but Swagger ran up ala Kurt Angle and suplexed him off. Swagger hit the gutwrench powerbomb, but Edge kicked out. Swagger went for it again, but Edge countered with the Impaler DDT.

Swagger tried several times aqain for the ankle lock, and finally got it applied, but Edge got to the ropes. Swagger tried to go back to it, but dropped Edge's leg in an awkward spot that looked like a serious injury. He re-applied the ankle lock, but Edge reached the ropes again. Edge got up gingerly, and swagger ducked Edges first spear attempt, but Edge countered a charging Swagger off the ropes with a spear for the 3 count.

(This was a clunky match, one that had several blown spots in it too, one that appeared to legitimately hurt Edge. The crowd was dead for most of the match until Edge speared SWagger, which took away from the match as well. Swagger needs to stop trying to be Kurt Angle 2.0, and get over with his own moveset, which is quite impressive whenb he uses it. The lack of an established feud between the two and the fact that Edge really hasnt turned face probably hurt this match as well. **.5/5)

4. Wade Barrett vs John Cena. If Cena wins, Nexus disbands, if Barrett wins, Cena joins Nexus.

Wade Barrett pinned John Cena when Husky Harris drilled Cena with a 2 by 4 while the ref was distracted by another man trying to enter the ring as Barrett was about to submit to the STFU.

Some good chain wrestling to start the match. Barrett seized the early advantage, but Cena took him down with a dropkick to the stomach, and a nice armwhip takedown. Cena went for the FU early, bought Barrett fought him off. Barrett gained the advantage when the rest of Nexus surrounded came tpo ringside and just stood, distracting Cena. Barrett hit a top rope elbow drop and continued to dominate Cena as Nexus looked on.

As Barrett continued to ground and pound Cena, both Smackdown and Raw Superstars came rushing out of the dressing room, and beat the absolute crap out of the Nexus. Huge crowd pop for this. Cena trapped Barrett in the STF, but Barrett powered out of that and hit a pump handle slam for a very convincing near fall. Cena recovered and hit a twisting gutwrench powerbomb and again went for the FU, but Barrett powered out of it again. Barrett went for a second top rope elbow drop, but Cena rolled out of the way.

Cerna climbed to the top and hit a rocker dropper to the back of Cena's neck for a 2 count. Cena went for the FU for a 3rd time, by Barrett elbowed his way out, and hit a dazed Cena with Wasteland, but Cena kicked out at 2 this time. Barrett went right back to Wasteland again, but Cena powered out of the attempt and hit the FU, which Barrett kicked out of in kind after a dramatic 2 count.

Cena locked in the STFU in the middle of the ring, and Barrett squirmed toward the bottm rope, but Cena pulled him back. Just as Barrett was about to tap, a "fan" attempted to enter the ring, which caused the ref and security to try and remove him. Cena let go of the hold at this point, and Husky Harris ran by undetected and KO'd Cena with a 2 by 4. Barrett turned around and covered Cena for the 3 count.

(A surprisingly damn good match. Just like with Sheamus earlier, this was Barretts best, and longest one on one match of his time in WWE. There were spots where Cena carried him, but he hardly looked overwhelmed. The finish was well executed, everything from the run ins to Cena's selling of disbelief and shock of the ramifications of losing the match. Barrett showed he belonged in there with Cena and Cena continues to improve in his selling and overall wrestling His facial expressions after a pivotal loss are second to none. A very brave move by WWE to put Cena in with a heel faction, and it will be interesting to see how it plays out tomorrow on Raw.***.75/5)

5. Michelle Mccool(c) w Layla vs Natayla for the Unified Divas Championship

Natayla defeated Michelle McCool by disqualification in 5 minutes, so McCool retained the Divas title. Good mat wrestling to start the contest, but the refree was too preoccupied with controlling Layla on the outside to pay attention. McCool scored a 2 count with a well executed belly to belly suplex.

McCool went for the Styles Clash, but Natayla rolled under and applied the sharpshooter on McCool. McCool did a nice job of reversing into a Brazilian heel hook, and Natayla almost tapped, but she broke free and re-applied the sharpshooter. McCool tried to get to the bottom ropes, but Natayla pulled her back to the center of the ring. Just as McCool was about to tap, Layla threw her shoe at Natayla, causing the ref to disqualify McCool.

(This was well on its way to being a good match, until the awful finish. These two can actually wrestle, so why not let them go out there and do it? Its hard to invest in an area of the company like the womens division when its apparent the company doesn't care either. There are plenty of creative ways McCool could have cheated to win to allow the feud to continue, but they went with one of the worst disqualifications ive ever seen. *.5/5.)

6.Kane(c) vs The Undertaker w Paul Bearer for the World Heavyweight Championship inside Hell in A Cell.

Kane retained the World Heavyweight Championship when Paul Bearer turned on The Undertaker and gave Kane the urn, who KO'd Taker with it.

Paul Bearer wanted to enter with the Undertaker, who refused, and let him know " he had it". Kane attacked the Undertaker before the bell sounded, but Taker quickly gained control and picked up an early nearfall off a huge swinging clostheline. Kane quickly recovered, however, and grabbed a steel chair, and began targetting Takers knee with it. They fought back into the ring, where Kane continued to target Takers knee in the center of the ring.

Taker eventually fought Kane off, and went for old school, but Kane once again targetted the knee of the Undertaker and knocked him off the top rope. They traded blows, and Kane landed a huge European uppercut. Kane then hit a top rope clostheline, but his attempt at a pinfall was countered into Hells Gate by Taker. Kane did a nice job of breaking the hold by rolling to the floor at ringside, all the while holding his neck. When Kane re-entered the ring, both men hit simultaneous big boots on the other.

Both men sat up at the same time, but it was Taker who got the advantage, and hit the Chokeslam for a close near fall. Undertaker went for the Last Ride, but Kane fought him off. He went to the top rope for another closthelione, but Undertaker reversed it into the Last Ride for yet another near fall. Undertkaer signaled for the Tombstone, and attempted it, but Kane countered it into a tombstone of his own for a dramatic 2 count.

Kane flipped out, ko'ing the ref with a huge uppercut afterwards. Medical personal, a new referee, and Paul Bearer all entered the Cell. Kane chased Paul Bearer around the ring, and into it, and Bearer was caught between Undertaker and Kane. Bearer then blinded Undertaker with the urn, held it up for him to see, and handed it to an astonished looking Kane. Kane ko'd Taker with the urn, and chokeslammed him for the pin. Kane and Paul Bearer left together while looking back over a fallen Undertaker still inside the cell.

(This simply wasn't a good match. Their no holds barred match two weeks ago at Night of Champions was far superior. While the lack of utilization of the cell didnt hurt the Orton/Sheamus match, it killed this one. There was such a personal aspect to this match, simply put, a "blood" feud, and the lack of blood spots or using the cell as a weapon hurt this match immensely. Once Kane KO'd the referee, it became blatantly obvious that Bearer was going to turn on Taker, and it was executed very poorly as well. It made sense, as Taker had buried Bearer alive 8 years ago, but it just wasn't done well. This certainly was not the match to main event the show with. **.75/5.)

I had very little expectations for this PPV, and only decided to order it at the very last minute. I thought the opening match for the US title was by far the best match of the night. In my opinion it proved not only that Bryan was a worthy champion, but WWE has a lot of faith in him.

The Orton Sheamus match wasn't bad I was surprised it went on second. The Del Rio segment with Edge that led to Edge vs Swagger wasn't anything special. It really lost the live crowd and me as well.

I thought the Cena Barrett match was pretty good at well. I have to say I was very impressed with Barrett. I definitely believe he will be a true main event star and world champion sooner than later. I thought the ending was done well. I can't believe the reaction of many adults in attendance the crying kids didn't surprise me. I don't see how the WWE would consider turning Cena heel after that. Especially after reading that many people left after he lost. How they handle the angle from here on out should be interesting.

The divas match was as expected nothing great. The main event wasn't a bad match. However the ending was horrible. I wasn't surprised at all with Bearer's heel turn, but it came across very cheesy.
The Undertaker also was definitely showing his age and the toll the injuries have taken on his body. I think it's about time he considers hanging it up. I'm sure before the feud ends he'll have a last title run,and hopefully call it a career at Wrestlemania.

Overall the show was better than I expected. I'd give it a 7 of 10.

So now we are going to blame Orton for selling? He sells every bit of his opponents offense, and that's a bad thing? What an absolute load of shit. Orton went above and beyond to make Sheamus look good-in-defeat. I've watched that match twice now, and I really enjoyed it. I thought both men busted their asses and put in a damn good amount of work.

The hate for Orton is getting almost Cena-ridiculous at this point.

How did Orton make Sheamus look good in defeat? He completely blew through Sheamus' signature spots, his facial expressions made it looks like he didn't give a damn and if he did sell, it was for like 3 seconds it looked like he was dead weight each time Sheamus picked him up.

If anything, Sheamus looked like an ass clown because literally did everything but literally knock Orton the hell out, but Orton just went "Pfft. Where's that is that cruise control button?" Especially the way he just climbed to the top of the cage like it was an episode of Raw and it was a go home show; not that he just had a 25 minute or something HIAC match with a guy who just ended Triple H's career.

Its probably already been mentioned a dozen times on this thread, but who really wants to read all of it to check. Anyone else agree that WWE has completely dropped the ball by not having Cena and Barrett in the cell? Seriously, you claim the point of the match is to see who is better and if Cena wins he joins, but if Nexus interferes Barrett loses. Uh, wasent the original intention of the cell to keep people out of it? And even worse, their at a themed ppv called HELL IN A CELL!!!!!

More awful booking....PPV was predictable and the normal crap WWE has been providing (Yes feel free to say the guy with the ROH sig thinks a WWE ppv sucks. Feel free to considering ive been watching WWE for 14 years)

I thought the PPV was surprisingly solid. I admit I ordered for Kane and Taker, but the show was good and exceeded my expectations.

One thing I did notice though was how dead the crowd was the entire night and how not dead they were for Cena and a rookie in Wade Barret.

The show starts with JoMo coming out to no reaction at all. Then Daniel Bryan comes out to the sound of crickets and even Miz didn't get his usual level of Miz heat during his promo and walk to the ring. As for the match itself, I will describe it as unique and entertaining. Submission is a lost art in WWE so it's nice to see it highlighted here. It was fun.

Orton and Sheamus delivered a decent match. No reason for it to be a Cell match and it was painfully obvious that PG has killed the cell. Instead, what we get is a glorified NO DQ match with a cell around the ring. Still, decent for what it was, but the Cell concept should be dropped. They barely touched it. The biggest prop was the ring steps and in a Cell match that's a problem.

Edge and Swagger was the "we need to kill time" match of the night, yet it was again, surprisingly solid. Nicely wrestled, good action. Edge with the win and what's with the fans. Granted, this match wasn't on the card, but they're absolutely dead.

Cena vs. Barret comes on and the fans are electrified. Goes to show you why WWE probably doesn't want to turn Cena full-fledged heel. Cena truly does ignite a crowd like no other in this era. Fans are hanging on every moment. Nexus storms out, the WWE locker room gets rid of them. Both superstars kicking out of finishers. Should it have been in a cell? No. The finish was a throwback to Cena/Orton at Summerslam two years ago, but nonetheless entertaining. The shocked look on the faces of fans of all ages after Cena lost showed the magnitude that Cena has on the business. Whether its fans rooting for or against him, he gets the fans going and this was everything a main event should be.

Divas action up next, not bad at all. Not much to say. Ending and DQ finish was a little cheap, but obviously the feud will continue.

Kane and Undertaker further reinforced why the Cell just isn't necessary. Vince has seemingly dropped the future Kane and Taker plans because of fans "disinterest" in the match, but I don't know what he saw, the fans were dead the entire night. Taker came out to one of the smallest pops I've ever seen for the Deadman and Taker has been getting great reactions almost everywhere else. Kane has been getting very good heat on Smackdown! and his Raw appearances and all his recent PPVs. Fans just were dead.

Match itself was entertaining. A lot of brawling and kicking out of finishers and it was entertaining for what it was. Hard to believe but they used the Cell even less than Orton and Sheamus did. And they barely touched a weapon. Again, PG is killing this match. I'm surprised to see that the WWE medics didn't storm the ring to clean up the cut on Kane's head. But, considering I knew this was another glorified "No DQ" match, it was fun. The Paul Bearer turn was half expected/half surprising.

Considering this angle was supposed to culminate at 'Mania (or so it was rumored), the Paul Bearer heel turn was not necessary. He's joining Kane, yet the payoff will probably be at Bragging Rights instead of Survivor Series. Vince will probably pull the plug on it and end it sooner than later. All I can think of is Taker wins in Buried Alive and then just "kills" Bearer again and we have a very anticlimatic finish to this thing.
