World Heavyweight Championship Match
Edge (c) vs The Undertaker

A telltale hour for the World Heavyweight Championship at No Way Out foretold the SmackDown main event at WrestleMania XXIV: The Rated-R Superstar vs. The Phenom, title vs. streak.

Within sixty minutes of witnessing The Phenom’s triumph in a grisly Elimination Chamber Match, the Ultimate Opportunist capitalized on an injured Rey Mysterio to retain the gold with an ample WrestleMania-based knot in his Rated-R gut.

The Deadman has pursued the World Heavyweight Title since May 8, 2007 – an evening on which infamy was defined by Edge’s opportunistic championship seizure. That night, the Ultimate Opportunist moniker was born as Edge cashed in Money in the Bank (which he craftily seized from Mr. Kennedy) at the most inopportune moment for Undertaker.

Minutes after The Phenom’s Steel Cage encounter with Batista and a savage assault by Mark Henry, the Rated-R Superstar stole the gold from the war-torn Deadman. The Ultimate Opportunist continued to be a bane to Undertaker for months on SmackDown, keeping the grim Superstar from reclaiming the championship. Now, more than one year later, life proves to be ironically cyclical for Edge, as his date with the devil has been inked for WrestleMania.

Speaking of cycles, The Phenom is certainly reaching the peak of another for himself. This time last year, SmackDown’s resident demon pursued a quest toward a championship encounter with Batista at WrestleMania 23. In an epic clash of two indelible titans, The Phenom maintained his venerable win streak on The Grandest Stage of Them All, and more importantly, captured his fifth World Title.

This impressive 15-0 undefeated streak at WrestleMania casts an ominous, intimidating shadow over the Ultimate Opportunist’s reign. However, Edge himself bears his own notable record at WrestleMania (5-1), at which he has never been pinned or forced to submit. But, this imminent collision isn’t about streaks; it’s about the highly coveted World Heavyweight Championship.

Can even the most ideal opportunity keep the gold around the Rated-R Superstar’s waist at WrestleMania XXIV? Or will the Ultimate Opportunist find the angle he needs and make history by burying The Deadman once and for all as The Granddaddy of Them All emanates from the Florida Citrus Bowl?

To be honest I've lost all intrest in this match. I'm sure it'll be good. But they faced each other at Armageddon, and they've had nothing to do with each other since. While I enjoyed Edge coming back and kicking the shit out of Taker at Survivor Series I thought it was wrong. He took Taker out so he should have avoided him at all costs. Again the amtch will be great, but I can't get excited about it.

Well we've been wanting it since May, now we're going to get it. Honestly, can this match live up to the hype that we here in the IWC have built it up to be. Quite honestly, I'm expecting next to nothing from the Raw Main Event, so all of my hopes as far as title matches are pinned on these two.

Put it this way, if Undertaker got a good match out of Batista at WM 23, this match should dominate all. Edge is 1000% better in the ring then Batista, so this match shouldn't be a dud. It's just a matter of timing. If they place it on the midcard like last year, it will be an amazing dissapointment.

i agree
i thinks its gonna be a triple threat match orton, cena ,triple h but we all now fujkin cena will win and the only reason they had orton DQ himself is so tth everyone doesnt have 2 watch the same match at WM 22 and the same outcome
edge and taker all the way 16-0

I hope they give it their all in this match. This match could be one of the last huge Undertaker matches in his career, and it could be the match that turns Edge into one of the top stars in the entire company (i know he's big now, but he seriously could be up there with Cena and Triple H.)

It could also turn a good wrestlemania into the best one ever. I'm really looking forward to this match, but at the same time i'm worried that they'll dissapoint everyone and won't live up the hype.

Undertaker got a great match out of Batista last year, which is why I believe this match will be amazing. The bolded part is my biggest fear for Mania this year. Normally, I'm all about putting the Royal Rumble winner in the main event, and by main event I mean last match. Taker last year and Mysterio before both won the Rumble and had there title match before the WWE Championship and it drove me nuts. This year I feel way different because, this match is more important than Cena/HHH vs Orton, and Cena won the Rumble, but already got his shot.

I hope the WWE knows that this is the match most people want to see at Mania. Not only is the Taker's legendary streak on the line, but it will more than likely be his last Mania. Triple H, Orton, and Cena will all be there next year (god forbid any injuries) so have them step aside and have there match halfway through the show. Lets have the real Main Event on last.

I'm glad this match is taking place. My friend, who doesn't follow wrestling quite like me, is a big fan of the Undertaker. Of course he doesn't like Edge because of his actions against Taker at Survivor Series, which we watched on DVD...anyway, at the next PPV Armageddon when Edge won the title, I began telling my friend about how I thought Edge and the Undertaker were gonna lock up at Wrestlemania, and I'm glad I was right (not that it was hard to tell the direction they were going anyway, but still...)..

I just wish there could be more build to this match, instead of roughly a month. I know these two have history with each other dating back to the Series, but since Armageddon Taker has been duking it out with the big men, Big Daddy V and Mark Henry...which I guess was for something to do, IDK...anyway I think it would have been better to have Taker chasing the title this whole time, slowly but surely taking apart Edge's stable, if it has a name...

Then it could all culminate at Wrestlemania, with Taker dealing the final blow and taking the Title, or with Edge solidifying his spot in the main event, and in the annals of history...to be honest, I'm rooting for the Deadman, but this match could go either way...that's what scares and intrigues me about it, I just wish it coulda had more build...

Im really looking forward to this match. Undertaker is always in superb form at WrestleMania and Edge is gonna be at the top of his game in this match. I honestly believe this could be the match that ends Taker's streak. If anybody could do it, it's Edge

Im looking forward to the match myself, but im not going to get excited about the outcome, it'll be the undertaker still undefeated at wrestlemania, only to have him loose it a couple of months down the road. Just like last year.

I think the main event should be 1-on-1, good guy versus bad guy. Taker and Edge will be a great match, these two will deliver, and Taker will go home with the gold again. As a big Undertaker fan, I'm just damn excited that his match will again be a title match and not some mid-card slop against somebody like Big Daddy V or Snitsky. I think this match should be the main event, just like Taker and Batista should have main-evented last year. I honestly don't think a majority of the fans are excited about the Cena-Orton-Trips main event. An old-fashioned 1-on-1 match is the proper way to do WrestleMania. Sure, the triple threat at Mania XX with Trips-HBK-Benoit was great, but it would have been just as good or better with either Benoit-HBK (damn that wulda been great) or Benoit-Trips.

Edge and Taker will deliver a great match. But the outcome is not in doubt. Taker will win the title. They aren't going to end his streak at Wrestlemania XXIV. They will save that for Wrestlemania 25.

The Undertaker's streak will end at Wrestlemania 25 against John Cena.

Without question the undertaker will win this match...and that's not a knock
on edge at all cause i think he is a pretty good worker but come on now this
is wrestlemania and i just dont see wwe ending it..i dont care who u put in the ring with taker and that includes trips or cena taker would go over

Yeah... ok if Taker's streak gets broken by Cena im sure the world will riot LOL. But anyway back to topic this match should be GREAT. Hopefully the main event and not in the middle kidna thing because im sure it'll b better then the triple threat match that Raw's got. Could go either way too! cant wait!

unfortunately this match is surely destined for the mid card...much like last year....the reason for this? nothing to do with the quality of matches they will put on..or the people involved...or politicking from anyone...
but the fact Raw is undoubtedly the #1 brand and they want people to know this. the main title is the WWE Title. the Main Event is the Raw Main Event. and the finale of mania being a raw superstar will draw people to watch raw the next night! so as much as id love to see this match end the night i think it will be midcard because of the fact its a smackdown match!

Though they are saying it is gonna be title vs streak between edge and undertaker like wrestlemania 23 it surely is more intresting dude.

If you actually see facts edge never lost at wrestlemnaia too, besides that he didn't won mitb last year he never was in it for the whole time so he never lost.

Wwe pulled him out as they wanted him to not to lose at wrestlemania.
So this year it is title vs streak and streak vs strak and title vs pride.

This match should be a real classic-a slobber knocker only exception is that wwe could spoil the excitement intrest if they don't put it as the main event and put cena vs hhh vs orton.

Plz put undertaker vs edge as main event.

This match will surely be great and I think Edge will be able to put the streak of Taker' in the dirt, if they did my liking of edge would sky rocket even know he's already my favorite.

"EdgeHeads, Rated R Superfans, the support of Edge vs. well whatever you call those things who backup the taker."

I personnaly think that Undertaker will win. This is unfortunate because the deadman prolonging his streak will be at the expence of Edge's streak. Because Edge has a brighter future he should win and have a legendary streak, only to lose it to some other up and comer who will in turn have a great streak and lose to another younger superstar(like a grand cycle).

If they put this on even close to mid card, im going to be absolutely pissed. The way they should do it, is one championship match first, a womens match/promo thingy in between, and then the other title match. they should not EVER consider putting this match in the mid card, and it was an absolute travesty they put Taker Vs Tista so low last year.

As its been said, this should be absolutely amazing. Edge is by far and away head and shoulders the top heel in the biz, and the undertaker, is the undertaker. I honestly think Edge could be the guy to end the streak, and I wont stop wondering until the bell rings, and Taker stands over Edge with the belt, in victory. I mean seriously, Edge beat JOHN CENA one on one for the belt, he can take out the undertaker at WM. I hope he doesnt, and Taker wins the belt and has the last real long title righn of his carreer, but if anyone ends the streak, I would be happy with Edge doing it. Cant wait for this.

Should be a good match no doubt. But I do think it's going to let alot of people down just because of the way everyone is hyping it up to be. Last year when it was Taker/Tista, everyone predicted a shitfest of a match. Turns out it stole the show. This year, everyone is hyping this to be a match from the God's. It is. I can't wait but I do think people will still complain about it not being as good as hoped despite them delivering a solid performance.

As for the mid-card thing, if that is what it takes for this match to get a good time, then so be it. I'm pretty sure that's what will happen anyways since McMoron's match will likely be second to last but meh this will probably make the triple threat match look like shit and it will make Undertaker's legacy even more with another solid performance and 16-0.

I want this match to the main event Mania so damn badly, but I know that the WWE Championship triple threat match will main event mania which is bullshit but hey what can ya do if your Taker and Edge? Not much. Tough this match should be damn solid as Edge is one of the best going in the business today and Taker can always put on a show when the lights are on bright. So I expect a damn good showing by both men especially if they get screwed out of the main event.

I just have this feeling that Taker will win this match but not take the championship. As for some strange reason I just feel that WWE will pull all of us a swerve and have Edge retain the gold by DQ, but keep Taker's Mania winning streak intact. Really this could add more fuel for this feud and surprise the hell out of us all fans as we all think taker will win and win the gold. Having Edge retain the gold by DQ will help this feud go along and carry into the beginning of summer where it will end on a high note.

The Undertaker is obviously going to win.
The WWE is making his Wrestlemania streak historical. They will never make him lose at wrestlemania so he can hold the title of the wrestler that never lost at wrestlemania
so undertaker will be 16-0 come wrestlemania

this should be one of takers best matches, because he will probably retire soon and edge being the up and coming main heel in wwe will beat him. but i still like the idea that A.J said having it be a dq win by edge so he retains the title and taker keeps his streak.they could just keep the feud going till vengeance or whatever and hve taker win the title then.

Taker is more likey to win.Still its gonna be a great match.I think WWE is going to build this up perfectly! Both undeafted at WM and Edge screwed Taker out off his title a year ago.Edge never faced taker one on one since then.Perfect storyline.

Just don,t put it in the mid card.It would be the biggest mistake since giving Khali a world title run.

I have been waiting for this match since the beginnig of the feud. This match will be a very intresting match. Undertaker barely dissapoints a WrestleMania, and I love Edge. This could easily be the Match of the Year, possible the greatest match in 'Mania history. I have very high expectations for this match, and hopefully will not be dissapointed. I would love to see Edge win this this, but it's gonna be 'Taker.

The only problem I see with this match is that unfortunatley, it will not headline 'Mania. But the HHH/Cena/Orton match will. This is why WWE pisses me off. They have an amazing match, with huge potential that they've been hyping up since last May, but yet will throw it in the mid-card. Their logic fails me.

I have been looking forward to this match at Mania' since it was first reported that it was planned many months ago. I think it will be a great match, last years Batista/Taker match stole the show in my opinion, and this one should only be better considering the fact that it is possible that Edge could actually end Taker's streak, considering it was pretty obvious Taker would win last year. I hope that Edge walks out of Wrestlemania win the championship, I think Takers streak is great and never wanted it too end, but this is the perfect time to do so. If Taker' wins that could lead to a great rivalry between Jeff Hardy and Edge, considering i dont see Hardy winning the WWE championship with all of the stars on Raw.

Taker's streal will never end and Edge will lose the title. Taker was promised a long title run but it ended with his major injury. Edge even took the title from him when he cashed in his briefcase. The storyline is freakin awesome...built up so well. Streak vs streak but everyone knows Taker will win
