Not for Long

SAN DIEGO – "Acting" SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero's scheme to crown her boyfriend Dolph Ziggler World Champion finally unraveled when real GM Theodore Long returned to SmackDown after his mysterious attack in January. After all was said and done, there was no question that Edge was the true World Heavyweight Champion on the historic 600th episode of SmackDown two nights before the SmackDown Elimination Chamber Match.

SmackDown milestone
SmackDown's 600th episode officially made the show the third longest running weekly episodic TV show in history.

Edge def. Dolph Ziggler to regain the World Title
With the World Heavyweight Championship technically vacant, Teddy Long righted things by arranging a championship match between Edge and Dolph Ziggler. The Ultimate Opportunist claimed his 11th World Title by dropping Ziggler with a crushing Spear. After the match, Teddy Long said good riddance to Ziggler by firing him. To cap off the historic night, The Rated-R Superstar added insult to injury by leading the WWE Universe in singing “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye,” as Vickie and her boyfriend exited the ring with their tails between their legs.

SmackDown GM Theodore Long interrupted the World Heavyweight Championship Coronation of Dolph Ziggler
With Teddy Long out of the picture after being attacked in January, Vickie and Dolph though they had the perfect plan to wrest the World Title from Edge. After Edge used the Spear last week against Ziggler, Vickie declared that he was no longer the true champion because she deemed the move illegal. But just as their grand plan was about to come to fruition, Teddy Long appeared on SmackDown, shocking Vickie, Ziggler, and the entire WWE Universe, alike. Cracking under the pressure, Vickie revealed it was Ziggler who attacked Teddy back in January. As the two lovers quarreled, Teddy rehired Edge and arranged for him to face Ziggler for the World Title.

WWE Tag Team Champions Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov def. Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel by Disqualification
Just when it looked like WWE Tag Team Champion Santino Marella was going to defeat Justin Gabriel after a lethal Cobra strike, Wade Barrett and Ezekiel Jackson pounced on him. But before they could inflict serious damage, Big Show came charging to the ring. The World’s Largest Athlete wasted no time clearing the ring of every member of The Corre. Glaring from outside the ring, Jackson appeared ready to go one-on-one with Big Show, but decided to back away and save their battle for another day.

WWE Champion The Miz def. Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston in a Non-Title Match
As The Miz and Kofi Kingston went to war, Alberto Del Rio decided to come to ringside to taunt his Elimination Chamber opponent with his scarf. The WWE Champion capitalized on the momentary distraction and dropped Kingston with a vicious Skull-Crushing Finale. Kingston will surely remember Del Rio’s actions come Sunday.

Maryse & Layla def. Divas Champion Eve & Beth Phoenix
As Divas Champion Eve was getting the better of Layla, Michelle McCool jumped up from the announce table to offer her thoughts on the action. Beth Phoenix quickly silenced McCool, but the distraction left the door open for Maryse and Layla to drop Eve with a devastating double-kick.

"Acting" SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero fired Edge
Citing Edge’s illegal use of the Spear last week, Vickie declared Dolph Ziggler, not Edge, the true World Heavyweight Champion. Then, after saying there would be a Championship Coronation for her boyfriend later in the night, she fired The Rated-R Superstar!

John Cena, Randy Orton, John Morrison, R-Truth, Rey Mysterio & Edge def. CM Punk, Sheamus, Kane, Wade Barrett, Dolph Ziggler & Drew McIntyre in a 12-Man Tag Team Match
As the third longest weekly episodic TV program in history, SmackDown kicked off its 600th episode with a massive 12-Man Tag Team Match. With members of both the Raw and SmackDown Elimination Chamber Matches in action, it was Edge and Drew McIntyre who tangled first. In the end, it was a 619 from Rey Mysterio to both Wade Barrett and Dolph Ziggler that set up Edge to seal the deal for his team by Spearing Ziggler.

Steel Survivor

At WWE Elimination Chamber, World Heavyweight Champion Edge outlasted Big Show, Rey Mysterio, Kane, Wade Barrett and Drew McIntyre to emerge victorious from the mind-altering abyss that is the Elimination Chamber Match for the second time in his career. It was the first time in more than five years that the sitting champion had retained his title in such a match. Afterward, when Alberto Del Rio laid siege on the 11-time World Champion, it was Christian who carried out a surprise rescue. Edge and Rey Mysterio began their barbaric match of mayhem, knowing that their four additional foes were waiting to be released into the insanity one-at-a-time from their respective pods, every five minutes in random order. The only way for any of the SmackDown elite to win the World Title was for all of his opponents to be eliminated by pinfall or submission. As The Rated-R Superstar battled The Ultimate Underdog amidst the twisted steel, Wade Barrett entered No. 3. All three Superstars survived long enough to see the monstrous Kane entered No. 4. As the treacherous carnage continued, Drew McIntyre emerged No. 5. Big Show was the last to enter, sending Superstars flying in every direction. The World’s Largest Athlete eliminated Barrett first, blasting him with the knockout punch. Big Show then went down second after Mysterio hit him with the 619, Edge hit the Spear and Kane finished him off with the chokeslam. McIntyre was defeated moments later with a second chokeslam by The Devil’s Favorite Demon. Then, as Mysterio was upside-down – hanging from Kane with amazing athleticism – Edge Speared both of them, leading to The Ultimate Opportunist pinning The Big Red Monster. After an extremely intense final showdown between the same two Superstars that started the match, Edge finally reigned supreme, hitting the Spear on Mysterio in mid-air. Moments after Edge defended his title in epic fashion, his WrestleMania opponent, Alberto Del Rio, attacked the war-torn champion. But, his onslaught fell short when an irate Christian – making his return from an injury he suffered at the hands of Del Rio last September – charged to the ring to save his former tag team partner, bringing the ecstatic WWE Universe to its feet. The groundwork of the sadistic showdown was set on the Feb. 4 edition of SmackDown. While Edge automatically was granted access as the reigning World Heavyweight Champion, Mysterio, McIntyre and Barrett all captured their place in a series of Elimination Chamber Qualifying Matches. Although then-“acting” SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero also inserted her boyfriend, Dolph Ziggler, into the fray, the true GM Theodore Long returned to fire the bleach-blond Superstar on Feb. 18. Teddy made the earth-shattering announcement that Big Show would replace him just moments before Sunday’s match began. Edge’s triumph in the Elimination Chamber solidified his main event match with No. 1 contender Del Rio on The Grandest Stage of Them All. After the assault by his No. 1 contender, The Master Manipulator will definitely be looking to Spear apart his aristocratic adversary’s moment of “destiny” in the weeks to come.

Destined for Greatness

The arrogant Alberto Del Rio believes that it is his destiny to win the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXVII. Tonight, the Mexican aristocrat took another step toward making this vision a reality by defeating Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston in the opening bout of WWE Elimination Chamber. Although Kingston’s title was not on the line in this contest, Del Rio’s victory is proof that the privileged Superstar has what it takes to defeat a skilled champion on a major stage. It was a huge win for the 2011 Royal Rumble winner, but his triumph was nothing if not tainted. From the opening bell, the underhanded competitor shamelessly avoided Kingston’s blistering offense, slipping out of the ring and running behind his personal ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez at every turn. Only when the official was distracted would Del Rio strike with his typical illegal maneuvers, including grabbing handfuls of hair and slamming Kofi into the ring post. But in the end, the confident competitor stopped the Intercontinental Champion with his dangerous cross armbreaker and showed the WWE Universe that he belongs in the main event at WrestleMania. Tonight’s loss was a disappointing one for Kingston. In the weeks leading up to this bout, the Intercontinental Champion had been antagonized by Del Rio time and again. The last straw came on Friday night when the Mexican aristocrat’s distraction caused Kingston to lose to The Miz. The explosive Superstar was primed to put Del Rio in his place tonight and came close on multiple occasions, but his opponent’s underhanded tactics were simply too much for him to overcome. This anything-to-win mentality that Del Rio has displayed since his WWE debut in August of 2010 has made him a very dangerous — and successful — contender. But will it be enough for him to capture the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXVII on Sunday, April 3? Win or lose, it will definitely be a match to remember — but you already knew that.

The Corre of Victory

Representing The Corre, Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater won the WWE Tag Team Championship for the second time at WWE Elimination Chamber by defeating Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov with an assist from fellow Corre member Ezekiel Jackson. Santino and Kozlov have been known to bring a bit of comic relief to the ring along with their championship abilities. However, with the massive Ezekiel Jackson escorting his fellow Corre-mates to the ring, the comedic-duo knew they had to put their game faces on and prove why they are champions. But they were also forced to keep their focus on the match as well as the other members of The Corre. Gabriel and Slater have been through quite a bit since losing the titles to Santino and Kozlov last year. In fact, Gabriel and Slater’s first title reign was scrutinized because of the fashion in which they won the championship. At the time, then-Nexus leader Wade Barrett forced David Otunga to lie down for Gabriel and Slater in order to strip then-Nexus member John Cena of the title, which hurt the credibility of the new champions. However, following Wade Barrett to SmackDown to form The Corre reinvigorated the duo and it did not take long for the tandem to zero-in on reclaiming what they believed belonged to them. Just two weeks after joining the blue brand, The Corre’s resident tag team declared their intentions by quickly defeating Santino and Kozlov in a non-title match highlighting the chemistry between the WWE NXT season one alums. The tag team rivals met again on the final SmackDown heading into WWE Elimination Chamber. However, interference from Wade Barrett resulted in an inadvertent disqualification for The Corre. This resulted in a rematch being scheduled for the pay-per-view, as announced via WWE.com. Inside Oracle Arena, both teams displayed excellent chemistry and proved why either could reign supreme at the top of WWE’s tag team division. The match displayed the competitiveness of each Superstar as individuals and as a team. However, the unity and collective attitude of The Corre is what ultimately led to Santino and Kozlov’s demise. Slater tagged himself into the match unbeknownst to Kozlov, while Jackson pulled Gabriel from the ring. Arguing with the official, Kozlov was hit from behind by Slater who set up The Moscow Mauler for a 450 splash from Gabriel, allowing The Corre to capture the coveted WWE Tag Team Championships. The victory solidified The Corre’s unity and also put the Superstars of both Raw and SmackDown on notice.

World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs. Alberto Del Rio

After winning the biggest Royal Rumble Match in history, Alberto Del Rio has proclaimed that he will challenge World Heavyweight Champion Edge for his coveted title at WrestleMania XXVII. Edge is a 11-time World Champion at the top of his game and a Master Manipulator known for attacking both the mind and body of any impending adversary. In the squared circle, he is extremely dangerous, wielding an incredible array of maneuvers – most prominent of which is the bone-shattering Spear. He has headlined the past three WrestleManias, standing toe-to-toe with the likes of The Undertaker, John Cena, Big Show and Chris Jericho. The future WWE Hall of Famer undeniably knows what it takes to shine in The Showcase of the Immortals. Alberto Del Rio is making his first appearance on The Grandest Stage of Them All. But, in the short time he has been in WWE, he has stepped head-and-shoulders above the rest. His infamous list of accomplishments includes a conquest over two-time World Champion Rey Mysterio on his first night as a SmackDown Superstar and ruthlessly putting both The Master of the 619 and Christian out of commission. That all paled in comparison, however, to the moment he overcame 39 other combatants to triumph in the 2011 Royal Rumble Match, catapulting himself into the main event at WrestleMania. One day later, after choosing to make himself the No. 1 contender to the World Heavyweight Title, the aristocratic Superstar put the exclamation point on his declaration by smashing The Rated-R Superstar with a guitar and locking him in his excruciating cross armbreaker. Although the match between Edge and Del Rio is sure to be a classic, it almost did not happen. Thanks to the actions of Dolph Ziggler and then-"acting" SmackDown GM Vickie Guerrero, The Master Manipulator was stripped of his World Title and fired for using an illegal Spear. But, once the true GM Theodore Long returned, Edge was immediately reinstated and won his title back. Can Del Rio use his incredible momentum to outclass The Ultimate Opportunist on The Grandest Stage of Them All?

Find out, Sunday Apr. 3 at 7/4 PT, only on pay-per-view!

Teddy Long is so boring. Can we please get Abraham Washington as the new Smackdown General Manager? Have Vince come out and say "Teddy, I appointed Vickie Guerrero as the Official Consultant to Smackdown for a reason. You can't fire her - that is a blatant abuse of power. YOU'RRRRRRE FAHIIIIIIIIIIREEDDDDD.

Abraham's character was just too ambiguous. Initially it was hard to tell if he was supposed to be annoying and lame or if it was just bad execution.

Anyways Teddy for life holla holla playa holla

Wow! Pretty sure I shall be taping my first episode of Smackdown tonight. Getting into wrestling a little late, but I am sure I will be able to pick up pretty well. How are you all on this fine evening? Hope to get to know you all and to see you around the boards later on, but I felt like I'd just formally introduce myself right here. ;) And yeah, general managers for the most part, aren't supposed to be exciting and getting pops every time their music hits or anything. They're GM's for goodness sake! They are supposed to do their job and that's it, they don't need to layer themselves with personality and character, one of the few people in wrestling who don't. Why? Because they are really shown anyways and even when they are, they are doing their job and the best general manager is going to be the one who doesn't get caught up in the whole entertainment side of things.

In response to whoever said Teddy Long was boring, I'd rather have Teddy Long be a little boring and know when to make his exit, than Abraham Washington be out there with that god awful voice of his... :banghead: his voice was irritating on ECW when he had that show and I sure as heck don't miss it any less. Thank goodness for some GM's being people of few words, and great dance moves, like Teddy Long.

Welcome, Janice. Nice to meet ya. Are you really new to watching wrestling? That'll definitely be a cool perspective to have around here.

Meanwhile, I'm really excited for tonight. Not sure why.

Teddy Long is an on-screen personality, just like any other wrestler or commentator or interviewer, he isn't an ACTUAL general manager. He doesn't manage anything behind the scenes. There are Smackdown writers that do that xD

Kane gets more and more boring every week.

I would dare you to say that word for word to to Kane in person. Let's see what he'd have to say about that, boy! I'm sure devil's fave demon probably would have you tombstoned before you even get to the second "more."

I'm sorry that this is late but I know that, I'm new but I'm not that new. But even looking at the "on screen" general managers, very few have really been eccentric and even though they aren't the real GM's, they still have to act somewhat like one and you have to think that if you were to be hired, you'd obviously either be sleeping with Vince McMahon or have somewhat of a "work first, party second" personality. I don't know, just my theory. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't be worrying about your general manager being boring because Smackdown or Raw or any wrestling company is focused on wrestling and that is that.

I would say it to him face to face......via webcam
