The Mosh Pit: The Official Metal Thread

Not "metal", but still rock to me...

New BOYSETSFIRE single "One Match", with accompanying video:

Also, for fans of BSF or their vocalist Nathan Gray, check out his much heavier project I AM HERESY that really dives into the more Satanic elements and themes of his real-life Satanism:

Title track off the new Maiden album is some of the best riffage they've produced in years. When it changes pace at 6 minutes that song goes into awesome mode.

New Bring Me The Horizon album is awesome. It's got a very Linkin Park feel to it.

Bring Me the Horizon are literally one of the worst bands on the face of the planet.

And saying something has a "Linkin Park" feel to it is also one of the least-metal things you could say to describe someone's music.

I hope they all get Lynyrd Skynyrd'd in a plane crash.

I wouldn't say they're that bad. They're certainly better than other bands.

Just curious but why do you reckon they're that bad?

I was just drunk and being crass, in all honesty I can think of many worse bands but I and many others will maintain our opinion that BMTH's music is third wave faux scenecore bullshit. Their music isn't only dated, it's bad.

I will freely admit that they jump on bandwagons more than any other band I've listened to. Their new album is very electronically inspired and I reckon that's because electronic music is in. Their last album had electronic elements but it still had a heavy feel which was a nice middle ground. I still think the new album is decent though.

They're not great but they're not my style. Alligator blood is the only song i like from them.

I'd make a point that was because the album that's from had Jona Weinhofen on it who is (in my opinion) the best guitarist the band had.

They're also extremely terrible live; both in band performance and audience attitude.

Oli Sykes is terrible live. Saw them at Leeds fest he didn't sing half the time. The rest of the band were good though.

Electronic elements have always been a part of scene music though, look at Underoath or Chiodos, both had keyboard players and utilized electronic themes. It was new and fresh then though which is why I like both of those bands meanwhile can't really stand BTHM. Also their acronym sounds too close to BTBAM, which is actually a really good band.

Do like Between The Buried And Me. Keep meaning to get the new album. I only have Colors and The Parallex II. I'll check out those bands you mentioned as well X

All hail, BTBAM!

And you really mentioned Underoath? Really? You disappoint me, X.

If you don't have Alaska or The Great Misdirect, you have nothing.

Although those are both great albums.

Saw BTBAM last month, great show. What you got against Underoath? Their first 2-3 albums are scene stuff, but after that their last few albums were all fucking incredible proggy metal shit, well worth checking out if you haven't.

And I'm guessing you lost a bet by your new name. Broomhead.

Definitely lost a bet lol

And I can't stand Underoath. I've tried. I've seen them live about 6-7 times, almost entirely at festivals, and even the rest of the crowd just kind of died. It was essentially a bathroom break.

So can somebody tell me where to start on Anthrax. I mean I know they're part of the big four but I don't really know any songs besides them collaborating on Bring The Noise with Public Enemy and the song I Am The Law. There seems to be debate on John Bush vs Joey Belladonna when it comes to singers but I have no idea where to start.

John Bush is an underrated vocalist, but Belladonna is the definitive Anthrax vocalist for me. Their best album by far is Among The Living (the same album that has I Am The Law on it); the rest of their albums don't even scratch the surface of the brilliance that one has.

I'm going to agree with him on all points here. To me, as a huge fan of the thrash from that era, they really live and die with that one album. The rest are good, but they're not what you're thinking of, when you think of Anthrax in the Big Four.

I'm going to assume you mean anything from They're Only Chasing Safety on. Because that album was fucking phenomenal. It was tied for my favorite album with Anberlin's Never Take Things Personal my senior year of high school.

Definitely lost a bet lol

That's odd because I went to a show they headlined in 2006 and they rocked the fucking venue hard.

If you can't tell I was a huge fan of Underoath. Though I'm not big into hardcore / post hardcore anymore (Unless it's Anthony Green led Saosin, which is just one 5 song EP), I still got a soft spot for them.

Some of the problem might have been that this was on the east coast, and they are very predictive over their hardcore. Underoath taking the stage, sandwiched between bands like WhiteChapel and Hatebreed and Killswitch Engage was disappointing.
