The Mosh Pit: The Official Metal Thread

Lombardo would be a good fit, that'd be cool.

I'm not a huge Slipknot fan but I saw them at Mayhem Fest a couple of years ago, Jordison is a badass drummer. The gimmick they did where the drumset elevated, did a 360 around and upside down for a few rotations, all the while he was playing a solo, was one of the more memorable things I've seen at a live show.

I totally agree, seeing that live was epic and definitely will stay in my memories forever. I am a huge Slipknot fan and to me Jay Weinburgh (sp?) did an amazing job drumming on the new album. He is young and technically sound with nothing but potential to be a top drumming name in metal.

Haven't heard much of the new album besides the single they released... the name escapes me. Seemed a bit more metalcore than what I've heard of their previous albums?

Death Metal kings, in no specific order:

Vader, Carcass, Autopsy, Immolation, Morbid Angel, Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse and Death, who are the band it all began with IMO.

I agree. That's why the nickname "Death's metal" fits so much better than the genre being inspired by a Venom song. Possessed is a death metal band, sure, but Seven Churches most certainly sounded more thrash in nature than anything the death metal pioneers were putting out 5 years later.

In terms of pure technical death metal, nothing comes close to the proficiency of Death. They're easily up there with the higher tier bands like Slayer and Megadeth in my view, and above the likes of Dio, Anthrax, Pantera etc.

As a side-note, Cannibal Corpse are awful. They've done nothing but harm to the metal genre.

It does have some bits of Metalcore elements in it. The album is called .5 The Grey Chapter - Listen to the song called Skeptic. Towards the end of the song where the band is jamming has such an Iowa feel to it. Heavy and gritter. This is one of my favorite albums from them.

Is anyone on here Hell Yeah fans? I never hear anyone mention them to much. What are your opinions on them if you are a fan?

Not a fan, but here's my opinion anyway: I loathe them, their sound, and the members of the band. The fact that they compare one of their songs to Motorhead on their website makes me nauseous.

Care to elaborate on that? I'm a fan of Corpse, they're the highest grossing American death metal band of all-time and have swayed very little from their original sound and lyrical content during their career (other than the change from Barnes to Corpsegrinder on vocals) and have seldom heard such a claim made, just interested to hear your reasoning.

You know the stereotype of "Metal is nothing but screaming and singing about disgusting things"? CC reinforce that. There's nothing refined about what they're doing.

That's not to say I don't like the death sub-genre. I love melodeath, and technical death, and even some of the hardest death stuff if done right can be enjoyable. I don't get that at all from CC.

He's a Seth Putnam fan. It's the only logical explanation.

Never listened to Anal Cunt but screaming and signing about disgusting things kinda seems like their MO.

But hey, to each his own. That's why I love metal, there are very few things that are universally agreed upon and that always leaves the door open for discussion.

I don't think anyone really "listened" to Anal Cunt. They were like the ultimate musical trolls.

Are there any Misery Index and Scar Symmetry fans in here? I've listened to both albums and holy shit!, fuckin' kick ass. Misery Index just crush (Lana lol) you with its power/thrash style of play. New Scar Symmetry is ridiculous. The two singer combo is working well and the music is so damn heavy and take you on an epic journey of awesomeness. I suggest checking them out.

So I've been listening to Whitechapel seeing as Phil Bozeman was on the Suicide Silence Memorial Show doing Unanswered.

Damn that guy has some lows

I can dig Whitechapel, wasn't a huge fan of the newest album but the self-titled and Somatic Defilement were pretty badass. Saw them live a couple years ago, Bozemans growl really is that low and harsh, there's no production gimmicks there.

I've saw them live and it was awful. They sounded like complete shit. I thought Phil was going to eat the microphone it was that terrible.

More then likely. They've probably learned to not deep throat the microphone. I'm not really into them though, same thing with Chelsea Grin.

Yeah I've heard some other various deathcore bands at Mayhem festivals, Job For a Cowboy, Emmure, etc. Thought they all sucked.

I totally agree. Emmure, Job For A Cowboy, anything like that is not for me.

Have you heard Marilyn Manson's new song?

So I've come to the conclusion that Bring Me The Horizon are doing a Faith No More. They've got themselves a keyboard player now to add a different set of depth to their music and they're experimenting a lot more.

Oli Sykes is no Mike Patton though
