The Mosh Pit: The Official Metal Thread

Anybody here listen to Jamey Jasta's podcast (The Jasta Show)? It's possibly the best music podcast I have ever heard, always has great guests that are really interesting, & usually plays a couple songs from unsigned metal bands on the show too.

No I haven't, any good?

Sorry for the long winded reply. But the new Manson song is not to bad. Has a lot of old style in influence in it but I've been disappointed by him for so long that I lose interest in him fast. Same thing for Rob Zombie as well. Older stuff is good new stuff is alright at best.

Anyone heard of a band called The Ghost Inside? I've heard their new CD and I was impressed for sure.

No, but I can imagine that it is really good. I looked him as the host of Headbanger's Ball when it was on TV. I'm a big fan of his music so I will check it out for sure.

I've got friends who like them. Never checked them out myself. Any recommendations??

I've been really getting into I Killed The Prom Queen lately. I was on a Bring Me The Horizon kick and found out the I Killed The Prom Queen lead guitarist Jona Weinhofen was rhythm guitarist in BMTH for a bit and was on the If There Is A Hell album.

The music is really good. The riffs are awesome and just some good musicianship. While the screamo vocals are ok the backing vocals are awesome and are so much better (also done by Jona Weinhofen)

Alex, the song that got me into them was Engine 45. After that I really enjoy Dark Horse, White Light and Deceiver. Heavy and good. Off the new album I'm getting into Wide Eyes, Phoniex Flame and dear youth. Some solid tracks from them. Their new album Dear Youth, is a step in the right direction although the cover gets hated on as it looks close to The Dillinger Escape Plans new album cover.

They sound like a much heavier FFDP and at first I thought it was Ivan Mooby. Check them out if you can find them on YouTube.

Bring Me The Horizon, yeah, only good song to me is Alligator Blood. Other than that, they are just like Asking Alexandria. A band people like but I cannot find the reasoning why.

I've been listening to a lot of heavy metal lately. Some of these guys you probably never heard of like Grim Reaper and Armored Saint. Roomate is really into old school heavy metal.

I will check it out.
And holy shit on the album cover similarity though

Sempiternal (their latest album) is by far their best. They're getting more melodic.

However have a soft spot for these two from There Is A Hell

Saw Slipknot on Tuesday. Was bloody awesome. I got about three rows from the front, could feel the flames when they were used, got in a couple of mosh pits with guys twice my size and the cream of the cake was I managed to get a guitar pick as well.

Was a good night

Slipknot is fun live. What songs did they play? I want to hear Kill Pop live and Skeptic from the new album.

It was easier for me to look for the setlist than try and remember. I spent half the time trying to not get killed by big sweaty guys.

Sarcastrophe
The Heretic Anthem
My Plague
The Devil in I
Psychosocial
The Negative One
Three Nil
Eyeless
Vermilion
Before I Forget
Duality
Wait and Bleed
Spit It Out

Nice! They're coming down to Florida in July with Lamb Of God and Bullet For My Valentine. I'm going and cannot wait. This year will be my first WWE live event and my first time seeing Bullet live.

Shit, it's crazy and I how they play them songs when they show up in July! I love their new album, hell I love all their albums. And LOG live is fuckin' crazy awesome. I cannot wait!!

Got turned onto an Australian act a bit back called Arcane — if Opeth and Tool had a love-child, it'd be these guys.

Fantastic stuff. Jim Grey, their vocalist, has a wonderful cadence, and a ton of range. Worth the listen. Above track is the single, though not the best track on the record IMO. That, at least for me, is one called "Unturning".

Is it me or has Manson completely lost whatever edge he had left? I cant get into his latest & there is really only one or two songs that I would even call just decent. The rest is quite tame and not what I was hoping for. I actually decided to take it off the playlist after one listen through.

I was hoping this one would have some sort of punch to it, but alas- disappointment.

Manson has sadly lost his edge years ago.

I've finally purchased my tickets to go see Slipknot, Lamb of God and Bullet For My Valentine!!! Fuck yes.

If your 555 then I'm 666 because people = shit!!!!

I'd argue Manson just got old. Like Alice Cooper before him it was shocking when he was younger but as the years go by more shocking people turn up. Heck one could argue he lost his shock factor when Slipknot turned up. Then there was My Chemical Romance and you've got guys like Motionless In White now. Without him these guys probably wouldn't exist and he's an integral part to the history of music, but he hasn't really done anything interesting recently

Motionless In White are a heavier version of Breaking Benjamin. I listened to them last night and thought they where pretty interesting. I really want to hear them live now.

Manson did not get old more so the genre did. Gothic metal just isn't cool any more. My Chemical Romance to me is more emo than anything. I think the style of music in general has fell off for both genres. But give it a few years an it will be back in style.

When I say My Chemical Romance, Slipknot and Motionless In White I meant more for the shock factor than the actual music. Although you are right about goth rock not being as popular as it once was.

Are we still talking about metal here? Because Slipknot and My Chemical Romance aren't very metal. I feel that I must remedy the thread.

True, Slipknot was a type of shock style of music for its time frame. I don't know to much of MCR though.

The same can be said for Rob Zombie. His music has steadily gone down hill. Which is sad because his stage show is take crazy to see.

How is Slipknot not metal? I'm baffled by this statement.

I was being facetious. I'd classify them as Nu metal. But that's an inside joke from elitist fans who hate everything if it's not taken to the extreme. Even Avenged Sevenfold and Killswitch Engage get their fair share of hate from what I have seen. Mastodon doesn't. Which is surprising as they are part of the same genre.

LOL, surviving a Slipknot pit is like trying surviving a battle royal. I don't think I've ever been so exhausted leaving a show then I was after leaving Slipknot when I saw them a few months back.

I know what you're saying. People take metal genres way to seriously. Music is music and like what you like. Mastodon, ugh. Saw them live and hated it. I cannot take them seriously an just do not like their sound.

I have heard new Kataklsym and Misery Index and holy hell! Simply heavy and Misery Index just hits all the heavy notes in all the right way. Brutal, fast an catchy. That's how I'd describe both albums. Check them out to see if you guys like them.

New Scar Symmetry is off the chains as well.
