The Mosh Pit: The Official Metal Thread

Two things

1. What are the Metallica albums post Black Album like?? I hear bad things and good. I can't quite tell if it's metal elitist bashing it or they're generally bad.

2. I was thinking of starting a thread about replacement vocalists. In one of the CM Punk threads relating to his theme music mentioned I'd like to hear Jesse Leach do a version of This Fire Burns and Nightmare established himself firmly as team Howard. I remember IDR saying a few years ago stating he was team Leach.

Question is if I was to start a thread about replacement vocalists in a band would you guys be into it. I may broaden it to include bassists, guitarists, drummers etc

I can answer 1: Hit and miss. Load is not terrible, but definitely a step down from their other stuff. Reload is better but still not quite up to par with their 80's content. St Anger is awful, and Death Magnetic is good, but also not as good as the 80's stuff.

I like St. Anger to be honest. Highly underrated in my eyes. Load is good Re Load is good and Death Magnetic is good as well. Lulu was awful.

I like The Unnamed Feeling the best.

Slipknot released a new song called Custer. I fuckin' dig it. I am really anticipating this new album!

Just read an article about All That Remains and front man Phil said their last release was their worst album. To me A War You Cannot Win was decent at best. Some songs were on point while the rest was lackluster. I am a fan of these guys an have witness them live. It was an exceptional show nonetheless. This was before For We Are Many an AWYCW.

I do dig Metalcore and All That Remains. They have stated the new album sound is going to be like For We Are Many, which in my opinion, is another decent album. I am glad the band realized the last album is a direction to avoid. Go back to being heavy which to me would be The Fall of Ideals, Overcome, and This Darkened Heart heavy.

So apparently Slash says stuff is happening within Velvet Revolver trying to find a new vocalist.

At this point in time I really don't care. They've sat on it so long that it they'd have to find a brilliant vocalist and put out a great album before I could really care

This is awesome! I posted about a possible Divine Hersey reunion but that is not happening. So instead here is The Westfield Massacre. It is not the best producing quality but still, shit is brutal. I'm also a huge fan of Vext's signing so tell me what you think fellas! :)

Chester from Linkin Park could have been a great fit. Reason why I say him is he is fronting Stone Temple Pilots. So it would have made sense.

I've been thinking of doing a weekly thing where we link an album in the thread and try to give everyone's albums a listen over the week in order to broaden our perspectives on the genre. It can be obscure or well-known, either way.

What do you guys think?

I'm down

Chimiaira is awesome but that album was not their best work. Best song is Nothing Remains. I loved seeing them live. It's sad they broke up.

So I'm going to be seeing Slipknot and Korn in January.

But damn do I hate booking fees

Korn are great. Very solid performance but you have to make your own fun. Not much for crowd interaction (in my experience).

SlipKnot are a must-see. No excuses. Excellent performers although it should be interesting to see how they do without Joey.

I'm ashamed this thread hasn't got some Five Finger Death Punch yet!

Also, In This Moment:

(new song)

Saw GWAR for the first time last Thursday. One of the best shows I've ever been to. All the hands in the air and all the fake blood. So fun.

Any Between the Buried and Me fans in here? They're most closely associated with prog/math metal. If you're a musician you have to check them out, disgustingly talented. This is an older album but my personal favorite, from the Queen style harmonies in the opening to the heavier track likes Ants In the Sky.

I have just been checking this out and I am now a fan

In This Moment are great live but I am not a fan of studio work.

Dope is releasing a new album sometime soon, any fans?

GWAR was fucking awesome. I say was because even though they plan on continuing on after the passing of David Brockie, Oderus and GWAR are pretty much synonymous with one another, it's hard to imagine one without the other.

One of the things I love about this band so much was that they stuck to their guns from day one. Never strayed from their objective (to rid the universe of human scum), never sacrificed their raw sound for radio play or record sales.

They have a HUGE international cult following and are one of the very few bands of the post-thrash era of the early 80s whose main focus was to entertain people and have fun making music (and disembowling world leaders on stage).

I saw them live twice in the past 10 or so years and it was a hell of a show both times. Where else can you go to see a giant alien fuck the President in the ass, rip off his head, and spray a mix of extraterrestrial semen and blood onto an eager audience?

Long live the Scumdogs of the Universe, the mighty GWAR.

Not a fan of GWAR but heard they're insane live. Best show I've watched was Rob Zombie a few years back.

Surprised I did not know that Ill Nino had another album out. Just grabbed it & will get to it.

I have listened to the new Slipknot once a day for a week now & damn does it just get better each time. Great album & I love the bit with that country ass fool who tries to convince people he has written\performed for all those bands. Fucking hilarious.

Also been rocking the new Sevendust lately & a bit off topic- Childish Gambino. Both have been in good rotation since I started working overnights. I have my tunes on for about half my shift so I have plenty of time to listen to some good shit while at work.

I've listened to the new Slipknot album a couple of times and it's really good. Whoever the new drummer is is certainly doing their best Joey Jordison impression.

I recently got into The Mars Volta and decided to check out At The Drive-In seeing as that was the band Cedric Bixler Zavala and Omar Rodriguez Lopez were in before The Mars Volta and it's bizarre the difference in musical style. They're both great don't get me wrong but musically they're world's apart from each other

Go see Motorhead or SLAYER. You won't be wowed with the "extras" in terms of on-stage antics or flashy megatron backdrops, but your ears may well melt from the side of your head.

I'd love to see Slayer that works be awesome. I'd really like to see Mushroomhead as well. I've heard they're fun to see live. I dig their new album as well.

Definitely well worth it, even though Hanneman was the heart and soul of so many of SLAYER's classics, Gary Holt is a good successor, albeit not replacement. They're my favorite band, I've seen them 4 times live, nothing but good things to say.

I think the only Mushroomhead album I've heard is Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children. I never really got into them, kind of like Slipknot, the gimmick seems to overshadow the music, for me at least.
