Sam's Thread of Chattin' w/ Jake & Other Robust Subjects

I have two questions:

1) Why must you always recommend films that have, at best, an approximate UK release date and, at worst, none? I still don't know if the one with the farting corpse came out or not.

2) Rogert Ebert still reviews films? How?

Swiss Army Man is out on the 27th of this month. I'll use one of my 360 leisure days to see that and, hopefully, The Greasy Strangler.

1) Saw Hell or High Water today. Amazing. Does that come out in the UK anytime soon?

2) I saw that the other day and was equally intrigued. Maybe there never was a Roger Ebert, it's just a character played by many different people.

Hell or High Water is actually out here and on the list for next week.

Bump it up to number 1. It's probably my favorite film of 2016 and I reckon you'd love it too, so long as you're willing to accept a little old fashioned "super detective" tropes from Jeff Bridges.

Three stars for you! And three stars for you! Both films are remarkable in their own ways, mind you.

Childhood of a Leader is quite a lot like I Can't Believe It's Not Polanski (now with less rape). It has, hands down, my favourite musical score of the year.

Kubo is either stop motion, which would be incredible, or CG made to look a bit like stop motion, which would be really novel, or a bit of both, which still means the film is beautiful.

I was gonna see it today but I can only set aside so much money for sitting in a dark room and Viggo Mortensen frightens me slightly, which is why this week is a mere taste of the Jakey lifestyle. Hell or High Water and Hunt for the Wilderpeople (Wildepeople?) double bill on Monday though.

☆☆☆☆☆ Top Gun
☆☆☆☆ Don't Breathe and Blair Witch
☆☆☆ Bad Moms, The Purge: Election Year and The Infiltratior
☆☆ Ben-Hur and Kubo and the Two Strings

Just biding my time, watching stuff I'm not interested in, until The Greasy Strangler and Swiss Army Man arrive.

You guys watched Ash vs. The Evil Dead? I give the one and a half episodes I've seen so far a big ol' thumbs up.

I guess I just didn't have the heart to tell you Hell or High Water felt like a worse version of No Country for Old Men.

Whereas Hunt for the Wilderpeople made me realise a) New Zealand humour is different to British humour and b) I don't get it. Of my namesakes - e.g. Allardyce, Raimi, Yosemite - Sam Neill is still an easy top ten.

I signed an honest to goodness NDA about the latest film I saw, so I guess we'll all have to wait until... November 23rd for me to award it the mandatory three stars.

So the only cinema in newcastle showing the Louis Theroux Scientology film is sold out of all five showings within 20 minutes. Fuck them.

Finally, something to break the three star monotony. Not as derivative as you might expect, or at least derivative of different things.

There was a parade of shops, supposedly in London, that I didn't recognise. London, obviously, is a very small place and I have seen and can recognise all of it. Do you guys have a Next?

Yeah, maybe.

I believe it was oureally old bust station that was primarily used. It had redone railing everywhere and stunk off piss. Though I'm not sure how much of that will come across on screen.
