#3 Triple H vs. #14 Andre the Giant

The following match takes place in Hartford, CT under normal WCW Rules. Debate and follow the rules, no spamming please.

1. Not a popularity contest.
2. Will rules of a region come into play (Remember, this is old school WCW, so the ring entrance and the ring are on the same level.)
3. Will crowd be a factor.
4. This is the last round for non gimmick matches

I'm going with Andre the Giant. Andre was 10x the athlete in Japan than he was at Wrestlemania III. Andre is one of the biggest draws of all time. He was one of the most popular faces of all time, and even drew many fans to a fued with a heel Hogan. Triple H has had more World Titles, but only two of those reigns were great. I'll give Triple H credit, but Andre is truly larger than life.

Andre in 14 minutes.

I am also going with Andre, he was incredible in Japan, and was a huge draw, the guy has everything,he is agile for a big man, he was powerful, and i think he would be able to handle HHH. Andre was big everywhere he went, from Japan to the E. Andre is popular, and so is HHH, but i think Andre would out power HHH any day of the week and twice on Sundays. I say Andre around the 15 minute mark.

I went with Andre, he is my pick to win this entire thing after all. But the guy is absolutely the best professional wrestler of all time, he transcended (sp?) the sport and his popularity from territory to territory was what really got Vince opening his eyes and seeing that he could use this guy as his way to create a national promotion. A lot of people don't look at it like this but I have always seen the Hogan/Andre match as a passing of the torch from Andre to Hogan to be the biggest draw in the world. Andre is truly the greatest wrestler of all time.

If there are only 5 people in this tournament who COULD topple Andre the Giant, HHH is one of them. Despite the hate, the man is a fantastic athlete, legit powerhouse, and puts on great matches in the ring.

Andre is a legend and people seem to be very well aware of that in this tournament. Rightfully so. HHH has a great deal of power to TRY to neutralize the big guy, but overall, Andre will be too much for him.

Andre in 15 minutes.

I think my biggest problem with this match is that HHH's main weapon is the pedigree, which is a devastation move. However, I don't think he could get it on Andre, let alone it have any effect. Andre at his best is the best big man of all time, even over the undertaker. HHH is one of the best of all time, but I can't see him taking this one. He'd come close, but Andre's size is just too much, and he wins in about 20 minutes.

I went with HHH. I think alot of people are forget the old "Cerebral Assassin" prior to the DX reunion. HHH would pull this one out. He would somehow get the ref to get taken down and then i dont care how tall or how much Andre weighs but the sledge hammer is the equalizer here and The Game will bust him open and knock him out for the victory.

First off, why the hell does everyone keep mentioning the fact that Andre was a big draw? How does that at all equate into the wrestling match? It doesn't. It's irrelevant who was the bigger draw here.

Andre was great. WAS. The 80s saw him produce some of the most godawful excuses of wrestling the world has ever seen, and you cannot deny that no matter how big of an Andre mark you are.

But Triple H still is great IMO. He's always been, and this guy has had more success in wrestling then anyone outside of Ric Flair. I'm going with Triple H here, and am shocked the results are as close as they are to be honest with you. Triple H may be one of the biggest dicks alive backstage, but he is one of the greatest wrestlers to ever step into a ring, and easily one of the greatest heels of all time along guys like Ted DiBiase and Vince McMahon.

Hmmm....Ok, first off I'm probably one of Trips biggest supporters but I just can't justify Trips beating Andre, not in a single one on one match, if this were in ECW and Trips had the benefit of Extreme rules then maybe, but Andre just isn't gonna go down to Trips...it'll be a tough match, but I can't see Trips beating Andre just do to the fact Andre is bigger, making it nearly impossible to move, and in his prime was completely unstoppable...he dominated every match he was in

Sadly I gotta say Trips run in this tournament comes to an end here

Andre in 18 mins.

By those standards, the final four in this thing would be HHH, Angle, Jeff Hardy, and John Cena. Does that sound right to you?

This tournement is for the all time best, and Andre far eclipses HHH in my opinion. They wrestled at two completely different time, so I can see why people would go HHH. Its hard to compare them. I really don't see why you think this should be a landslide.

People's love for Andre and hate for Triple H is blinding them, the victory should go to Triple H in this one and I am worried how the votes are going to go. This match takes place in Connecticut, Trip's home state, it may not be Greenwich, but it is close and it is in WCW, a company Andre never wrestled for, but HHH did. Also, it is not the 80's anymore when giant wrestlers always dominated, today they get battered and bloodied more often and loses their fair share of matches too. Triple H was able to Pedigree both the Big Show and Viscera so he should be able to perform the move on Andre as well(just barely lol), so those of you that said he couldn't Pedigree Andre obviously hasn't seen his matches with Big Show and Big Vis. Using the usual excuse "Andre is HUGE! He will flatten [Insert Wrestler's Name Here] in like 10 seconds!" is bogus because Triple H has proven himself to be somewhat of a giant killer in his career beating the likes of Kane, Umaga, Snitsky, Big Show, Viscera, and Kevin Nash, so he knows how to deal with the "Big Guns".

Andre should prove to be a very difficult task for HHH to overcome because The Giant is one of the biggest legends ever to step foot in the ring, but Triple H is so well rounded that he has what it takes to beat Andre in a long fought match. Triple H with the victory via Pedigree/Heel tactics in 22 minutes.

PLEASE tell me you aren't comparing Andre the Giant to Snitsky, Viscera, or even Kane. PLEASE tell me you don't think the only reason Andre is getting votes is because of his sheer size.

First off, if you tried to draw a comparison of the SHW's of the 80's to the SHW's of today, there is NO comparison for Andre. The man was a monster, and if you watch his matches in Japan and early WWE he was also a complete athlete. Guys like Snitsky and Viscera and Kane are the modern equivalents of One Man Gang and King King Bundy - big men who were there JUST because of their size. Andre was a lot more than size.

HHH does have a fair trac record against men who outweight or outmuscle him. But look at the history of Andre's losses. How many matches did he even lose? He was beaten by Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania 3, that's about it. Guys like One Man Gang and Bundy, much like Snitsky and Viscera, are routinely defeated by top and even mid-card faces.

I am not saying HHH doesn't make this a DAMN tough match, but I still take Andre for the win.

What IC25 says is the truth. There is a match on the Hulk Hogan anthology were ANdre the Giant straight up does a drop kick lol.

But, call it blind markism, but I went with my guy, Triple H. As much as Andre was an athlete, I belive Trips to be a greater athlete, one who could excel in other sports, easiliy in body building. I think Trips giant frame is enough to go muscle for muscle with the giant. I know Andre has only lost a hanfull of matches ever, But I personally put Triple H in that echelon. I think he has the speed, agility, and stamina advantages to take this thing, but it will be the battle of his life.

Although I don't care for the politics and games played by Mr. McMahon-Levesque, I give him credit for understanding and honoring the history of wrestling. I give him credit for hard work and guts. I admire his coming back from some serious injuries. But let's face it...his best move is a sledgehammer shot. The pedegree doesn't even look effective any more...I guess he has gotten sloppy while delivering it.

Andre was arguably one of the strongest men in the world, and I don't think could have been legitimately taken by any "normal" person. They talk about Khali being large, but Andre puts him to shame.

We're talking prime time here folks, and NOBODY could take down Andre without a weapon...and this ain't ECW. Andre throws Trips around like a rag doll and either pins him, or McMahon-Levesque gets his butt disqualified for using the sledge hammer, and THEN gets thrown around like a rag doll.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

I have seen Andrea wrestle in person on six different occassions. In one match he faced big John Studd and Ken Partera and suplex both of them at the same time. Andrea is overlooked because of one match against Hogan. It has been said on here before but that was Andrea respecting the history and future of wrestling and passing the ball.
Andrea should have easily been a top 3 seed. However I did vote for HHH. Here is my reasoning. I feel like HHH could eventually wear down Andrea. He is smart enough to stay away from Andrea and I see him winning this after about 25 minutes. This is truly a case where both should be in the overall quarterfinals. I have to go with HHH because on my list I have HHH fifth best of all time and Andrea sixth. Flair, Race, HBK, Hart are the only other ones I would vote for over Andrea.

See I think just the opposite and see people blindly voting for Triple H without an understanding of who or what Andre the Giant is. First of all, if you're basing your vote off of 1980's Andre, then you're not seeing half the picture. The Andre of the 70's when he was young and Agile would tear Triple H in half before the match started. He doesn't need an arsenal of moves, he needs his raw strength and the match would be over. Guys were terrified to face Andre the Giant, and for allt he right reasons. It's not like today when guys are afraid of Triple H simply because they don't want to be on the wrong side of the shovel.

Triple H was good, but his career has gone down the shitter. I still don't think he's had any quality matches that he wasn't carried through since before his first leg injury, that's my opinion and I'm sticking too it. People complain about Hulk Hogan doing the same thing over and over again in his matches, yet praise guys like Triple H and Ric Flair, when they largely have lived most of their careers off of doing the same exact thing night in and night out. Triple H has gotten lazy, plain and simple,a nd that's why his matches suck. At least Andre had a legit medical reason as to why his matches went down hill.

come on now guys, sorry h but you cant wrestle your power play matches against andre. 7'5 or somthing...(im not sure so dont try and bash on it ok), and 500 lbs. bro you better work on his legs.

outcome- hhh loses after a good 25 30 min after many attemps on the legs of the giant. hhh loses all stamina and energy and after enduring many big moves, hhh never gains upper hand again and is pinned.

Triple H can play all the politic games he wants. When he gets out to the ring, it isn't going to matter. Andre will damn well do what he wants, and there isn't a single person in this world who can change that. The guy literally turned over a car with people in. And people really think Triple H stands a chance against that?

Andre. No question.

Damn this blind Triple H love here, Andre is the clear winner in this one and it is a disgrace to see an absolute legend about to go down to a guy who has made a career out of making everyone else (with the exception of Batista) look bad in the process. Andre was a true legend that really was larger than life in every sense of the expression, Andre would beat every single person in this whole tournament when he was in his prime and it is a mockery to see him losing to the likes of Triple F'in H!!!

By those standards, the final four in this thing would be HHH, Angle, Jeff Hardy, and John Cena. Does that sound right to you?

That doesn't make even the slightest bit of sense. How does the fact that Andre WAS good before the 80s came around translate into John Cena, Angle, and Hardy being the final four? What part of your ass exactly did you pull that random idea from?

This tournement is for the all time best, and Andre far eclipses HHH in my opinion. They wrestled at two completely different time, so I can see why people would go HHH. Its hard to compare them. I really don't see why you think this should be a landslide.

How does Andre far eclipse Triple H? Andre is so overrated it's ridiculious. He was a decent wrestler, I repeat, DECENT. He was huge, which is what gets him over still to this day. Nobody had seen a wrestler that big, and everyone thought he was unstoppable.

Please, I beg you, name me a single good Andre match. Seriously. Find me an entertaining and well-wrestled match involving Andre the Giant. You can't. Because he didn't have them. Ever. He was agile in his early days which gave the appearance of him being a good wrestler, but his arsenal never comprised anything more then variations of kicks and punches, and a few different body slams and suplexes. Oh and at one time he was able to do a dropkick.

And what did Andre the Giant ever accomplish in his career? He won the WWF Title, and held it for all of 30 seconds before selling it off to Ted DiBiase, making both him and the belt look like total crap in the process (who thought this was a good idea?).

Triple H on the other hand, has accomplished more then just about anyone. He's got more experience in the main event, and he's taken down giants pleny of times. He was able to easily defeat the Big Show many times, and the Big Show is only a fraction smaller then Andre was. Triple H can win in any type of environment, and has shown he has. He'd easily take Andre IMO, and if Andre has still lived and wrestled to see Triple H's rise to the top, he would've been jobbing out to him as well.

Triple H is better in every way and has every advantage except for the power/size advantage. Triple H takes this one in about 12 minutes.

But look at the history of Andre's losses. How many matches did he even lose? He was beaten by Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania 3, that's about it.

Andre actually lost many times in his career. Summerslam 1988, Wrestlemania 3 (obviously) Wrestlemania 5, Wrestlemania 6, to Antonio Inoki in Japan, to El Canek in Mexico, Survivor Series 1988 he got eliminated, Summerslam 1989, should I continue? The WWE's kayfabe "undefeated" streak was bullshit.

Not to mention this is in Connecticut, in the WWF. Advantage: Triple H. No way would Andre get booked to go over in this match. No way.

This is truly a tough match, because Andre the Giant wasn't (in my opinion) anything that honestly great other than really big and massively impressive through his strength.

I think Triple H. could pull out the victory, simply because hes smart enough to seek out the weaknesses in Andre's body. Hes cerebral in doing what he does and I really feel this would be similar to a Triple H. v. Big Show type match.. at which case, Triple H. has almost always come out victorious.

I don't think Andre has anything that could stop Triple H., unless he got his hands on him, long enough.. and I don't think Trips would make that type of mistake.

I'm going to assume that you have only seen Andre the Giant wrestle at Wrestlemania III. Andre the Giant was one of the best wrestlers of all time, not just because he was big. The young Andre could gorilla press anyone, and then deliver a dropkick that would change your mind on him. Watch some more Andre, Triple H shouldn't have much of a chance in this one.

Andre actually lost many times in his career.

Oh man, here we go.

Summerslam 1988,

Tag team match, and it was DiBiase who was pinned, not Andre. You did see the match, didn't you?

Wrestlemania 3 (obviously)

Yes, obviously. Damn that loss in the Wrestlemania Main Event in the match that essentially solidified Hulkamania. The hack.

Wrestlemania 5)

Disqualified for attacking a crooked referee in Big John Studd. He "lost" but sure as hell didn't get beaten.

Wrestlemania 6)

No shit, he lost as part of the Collossal Connection and wasn't even the member of his team pinned! Are you on crack? Haku got pinned, not Andre, how in the HELL does that count against him in a single match!?

to Antonio Inoki in Japan

Are you referring to the TKO he scored over Andre in a MIXED MARTIAL ARTS MATCH that ended with Inoki's victory because Andre's head hit the ring post!? Here, watch the match where Andre decimated Inoki in under 4 minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lirrd-9T6fM

El Canek in Mexico

Canek won by DQ for a low blow by Andre. Incidentally, Canek holds "wins" over Hulk Hogan, Vader, Yokozuna, etc which are onoly recognized in Mexico because they are tainted crap wins to give the local guy some credibility.

Survivor Series 1988 he got eliminated

Yes, by DQ because he would't break a choke hold on Jake Roberts.

Summerslam 1989

This was a 6-man match where Andre teamed with the Twin Towers. The match ended with Akeem being pinned by Smash from Demolition. Once again, Andre wasn't beaten.

should I continue?

Not unless you want to further embarass yourself with such a flawed post.

Not to mention this is in Connecticut, in the WWF. Advantage: Triple H. No way would Andre get booked to go over in this match. No way.

Connecticut fans don't give a shit about Triple H. Are you kidding, XFear? I expect better from you. Most Conn. wrestling fans don't even realize HHH is from there! They just know WWE is from there and are happy to get an event! There isn't NEARLY the hometown face pop for HHH like Pittsburgh does for Angle, Carolina does for the Hardys, or Boston does for Cena. NOT EVEN CLOSE.

This is your explanation of Andre the Giant LOSING!? Are you joking!? You pick out a few matches from just a few years prior to his death where he just happened to be on the losing end of tag team and 6-man matches in which he didn't even factor into the decision!?

I've seen a pasta strainer with less holes than that.

Remember while voting, take this into consideration. These men are wrestling in their primes. No BS politics backstage, or anything like that. They are in their primes mentaly and phsyically. Take into account wrestlers styles. Will a technical wrestler handle the small confines of a hardcore ECW environment? Can a Power wrestler match up with a high flyer in a tight roped six sided ring? Also, environmental factors. Two mid carders facing off against each other may not worry about the crowd, but a man like Hogan that has unlimited charisma can feed off the crowds energy if he is in a friendly environment.

Above is quoted from CA's Tournament Rules. I am making ONE FINAL PUSH, ONE LAST APPEAL to anyone who has not yet voted on this match to please vote for Andre the Giant.

Andre in his prime was a fast, massive monster. Everything about him made opponents fear for their lives. He used to manhandle Antonio Inoki, and tossed Hulk Hogan around Shea Stadium like a rag doll. He took what Gorilla Monsoon tried to be and made it better. He became the damn prototype around which every superheavyweight would be judged up until THIS VERY DAY.

He could wrestle, he could fight, and he could box. He participated in boxing matches against the likes of Frank Wepner (the guy Rocky is based off of) and Muhammed Ali (surely you've heard of him) and even participated in MMA matches before the whole damn world knew what the hell MMA was! He wrestled on a more insane schedule than today's guys do.

Andre deserves another round in this tournament. I respect the HELL out of HHH and man this would be a dream match. But Andre goes over. People, please, the proof is out there. Vote Andre.

I am not discrediting Andre, but I think letting him advance in the tournament can be a bad thing. Let's just say Andre makes it to the semi-finals/finals against Shawn Michaels in a match that does not favour either man, by the way you are talking, Andre should definitely win this one since he beat Triple H and Shawn is only 220 pounds. Who will win though? Shawn Michaels obviously because he is practically loved by everyone and people will vote for him even if the gimmick match isn't a ladder or TLC, people will probably vote for him even if it is a tables match, this is the man that won last year's tournament so it is highly possible. If this happens, it makes some of Andre's past opponents in the tournament look weak, like Triple H because he has a way better chance at beating Andre than HBK, but yet Shawn Michaels was able to beat the Giant.

Basically, what I am saying is that if Andre does beat Triple H, he better damn well beat HBK, The Rock, and Steve Austin as well if he meets up with one of them(and if a gimmick match doesn't favour them) because I can easily use the same reasons why Andre should beat those guys that you used for Andre beating HHH. But, I know that most people will vote against Andre if he faces one of those 3 wrestlers because they are uber popular and there isn't enough convincing you can do to persuade people otherwise, deeming his victory over Triple H meaningless and making them both look stupid in the process.

I hope you understand the point I am trying to make IC25(and other Andre voters) so you know my view on this situation.
