[Official] 2nd Bi-Annual Rock Tournament Spam Thread

I honestly think that more people are in love with Neal Peart here because of how games like Rock Band rate the difficulty of his songs. I'd put him 3rd or 4th on my list, overall.

And sadly, Portnoy is Avenged Sevenfold now, he left Dream Theatre. He was always my favorite member of that group - I wouldn't nominate anyone else.

Yeah, it'll probably come down to Peart vs Bonham...unless they get stuck in the same half of the bracket.

Ginger Baker deserves a shout in.
Him and Bonzo would try and one-up the other like every other gig during the Graham Bond days.

You... YOU... BASTARD!!! How DARE you say such things about Neil Peart!! Rock Band my fucking ass!!

Just listen to his drums on this song:

Just absolute drumming insanity from start to finish, especially at the very end in his closing of the song. Like, holy crapola.

Stick THAT in your pipe and smoke it.

No one ever gives Rush enough credit because they weren't the "cool" band to listen to. The musicianship of its members was so off the charts that the music they wrote became synonymous with being too "intelligent". They were pigeonholed and labeled as the Dungeons and Dragons of music because its fanbase consisted of mostly males of the... ahem... unpopular nature. I call bullshit. Smart people know smart music.

Here is a random guy playing Subdivisions quite well, actually... check out how tough it is:

People post videos of themselves playing Rush songs on drums because it's so fucking incredibly difficult.

There better be some fucking Metallica in this one. Also, IC could you include Chester Bennington in the vocals department? Pretty please?

You can't have a drummer category without the fastest guy in the world at it, Joey Jordison. Not saying whether he'll win or not, just saying he has to be in it.

Ugh... then toss Travis Barker in there. But remember, "fast" doesn't mean "good".

Wait... WHAT??!!? Why, because he was in The Who? Good for him. But that doesn't make him anywhere NEAR the drummer that Portnoy, Peart, or Bonham are.

No it is because of his talent. The who was not even able to get a record deal untill they added Moon, and now they are a legendary band. There is a reason he is known as one of, if not the greatest drummers of all time. The people you mentioned deserve to be there as well, but they are not the only ones.

Could someone also give John Mclaughlin a chance in guitar brackets

The man was shredding when it was only meant to be paper-related

Out of those who havent been mentioned so far I feel Slash, Joe Perry and Kirk Hammett should all be in the guitar category and Lars Ulrich in the drum area.

I know he probably won't get in, but I want to nominate John Cooper of Skillet for vocals. He has a great voice that fits perfectly with his genre of rock. I'll post a couple of videos. Also, I want to nominate Brian Mazzaferri of I Fight Dragons as well. He has a really good voice that I just love.

(Danzig can eat a dick; great writer, but his vocals are really overrated by his fanboys)

lolololol

But Hendrix isn't overrated by stoners and people who don't even play an instrument...okay buddy.

I'll be pushing hard for him but he isn't my number one pick for vocals. That would probably be the man you mentioned, Freddy Mercury. I haven't decided yet.

THE WHOLE FUCKING TRUTH.

I've always said D-Man that the only people who really appreciate Rush are musicians. Not to sound all high and mighty, but honestly 90% of people just don't get it or don't understand music theory enough to get it.

I've actually never played any of those shitty Rock Band games in my life.

I picked Neil Peart simply because he's the greatest drummer of all time. ;)

I'm not a stoner, yet I believe Hendrix is indisputably a top 5 guitarist of all time.

I don't play any instruments, yet I recognize Rush's greatness, as does others I know who (to my knowledge) don't play any kind of instrument.

God, your theories are full of fail, Armbar. Some of your picks are dead on, but don't try to use these arguments in the actual tournament, my man. :icon_razz:

Do you fit into the other category I mentioned then?

Hendrix was revolutionary in how he used his guitar, not what he played with it. If people use that kind of argument for him, I can support it. The difference between guys like him and Clapton is Clapton can still hold his own with the best guitarists of today, Hendrix would make annoying sounds with his guitar for 20 fucking minutes.

Can someone who actually plays guitar come in here and understand what I'm saying please?

...hence why I said people that DON'T get Rush...not the people that do. When people don't like Rush, and I have this conversation many times, they often literally say "I just don't get it". They are definitely good enough to appeal to the masses but they have always had a strong following of actual musicians who appreciate the small nuances in their music like time signature changes and key changes etc etc.

Tell me who they're full of fail please. I guarantee I can make a very strong argument for any artist I pick. Honestly, I'd want to get Gaga in her just to piss people off. But in the end I think I would just end up pissing myself of ha. I get very protective :)
