Numbers would be best suited for ANY spot.

I suppose, anyone can have any section really, but I've always been really big on people "fitting" in their respective sections.

Put it this way: I'd be happy with any of the three finalists winning. I think they would all make great mods. But I'm pulling for my rookie because he'd be able to take that music section and fill it with steroids and glorious soundscapes.

Deion Sanders and Jackie Robinson definitely don't deserve to be brought up. Sanders isn't even the greatest football player of all-time, and there's an argument if he is the greatest defensive player. Robinson could be a contender for most important athlete, but he's not in there for greatest either.

Deion is arguably the best defensive back in NFL history and one of the few players who played professionally in two of the 4 major sports. Deion could have been a multiple time all star in baseball had he focused solely on that.

Jackie Robinson lettered in 4 sports at UCLA. He was the starting point guard and led the Pac 10 in scoring twice. He also was an all american running back and an NCAA champion long jumper. Wasn't too shabby of a baseball player either.

Both are certainly deserving of consideration. Nice try though.

How about Fritz Pollard in the 1920s?

I don't know who he is, but I know that Jackie Robinson provided the groundwork for future African-American stars. Before Jackie, the fans were deeply racist, and after they witnessed how truly great of a baseball player he was, they began to accept him, and African Americans as sports stars. That's the consensus anyway.

Dave Winfield deserves a mention as well. He was obviously a tremendous baseball player but he also was very good at basketball. He drafted by the Hawks in the NBA and was also drafted in the ABA. Even the Vikings picked him in the 17th round of the NFL draft and Winfield didn't play college football. He's one of three players to ever be drafted in 3 major sports.

Numbers has chosen Muhammad Ali.

Blue Cardinal has chosen Babe Ruth.

SSC is the only one remaining who needs to make a pick.

Since he's the last one to choose, I am going to go ahead and open up the thread. Good luck, everyone. By this time next week, the NWS's will have a new moderator.

It's all one sport guys being picked. It's easy to argue against guys like that with athletes who were arguably the best at their own sport plus could have/did succeed at others as well.

This was tough, with so many great athletes remaining, but I've reached my decision.

Michael Jordan for those who don't know.

These were the options I was considering.

Federer
M Schumacher
Lance Armstrong
Phelps

Plenty of options this time around.

So I am going to bed but I thought I would put a post up before I went. It's not my best and kinda irrelevant with amount of posts that have gone up since I started but I will be back with full force tomorrow to look at the posts that have come up since then.
