MMA July - Slaying The Burger King

Ariel Helwani - - - Bellator LHW champ A. Vegh tells us he's shoulder is fine but BFC made him sit out and matched Lawal vs Newton for the belt

So keeping with my whole anti-Bellator thing I have going on, if the Eddie Alvarez situation didn't teach you about the level of scumbaggery rampant in Bellator, this sure as shit will.

If you aren't familiar with the situation, Bellator was grooming King Mo to be their champion. Then, King Mo was knocked out by a horribly embarrassing spinning backfist in I believe, the semi-final of the Bellator LHW tournament by Newton. Newton won the tournament and was scheduled to fight Vegh, but Vegh pulled out. Normally, a respectable company would reschedule the fight especially considering the injury wasn't serious as he is fine now. Not Bellator though. Bellator decides to go and STRIP their champion of his belt and have the winner of Lawal and Newton become the new champion.

Yushin Okami has been cut from the UFC. I'm a fan of Okami so this is sad news and it's a shame to see him released even though he was still ranked in the top ten. The guy was winning fights and a real threat in that division.

Not happy with this announcement.

I'm pro Okami so the news is indeed not good. I can see why he was cut, he likely had a hefty veteran salary and he wasn't a draw, but I don't like it.

Did we all see that Wanderlei Silva/Chael Sonnen confrontation at Olympia Expo in Las Vegas? The video is very poor quality which is confusing since it's not 2006 anymore. This thing just made Wanderlei look silly as he got all mad at Chael. He has since released another nWo style promo with the translation so we can understand what he is saying.

Wanderlei should either accept the fight with Chael or just leave it alone. I'm bored of Chael calling him out and then getting nothing for Wanderlei until something else is booked. I understand a fight between the two was not going to happen when Chael wanted but if Wanderlei refuses to fight Chael after he beats Evans then the fight should be killed off.

I'm so over it.

Didn't see it mentioned here but Michael Bisping is out of the Munoz bout next month in England, replaced by Lyoto Machida. Sucks for the crowd that they won't get to see the hometown boy, but this is definitely an even bigger opportunity for Munoz. If he wins this it'll catapult him up the rankings (though I don't see him getting past Machida)

Excellent footage of the Wanderlei/Sonnen incident was shown on UFC Tonight. Noticed how it was 4 vs. 1 with Wanderlei having his group there to ambush Chael. Chael said that Pettis turned up ready to help in the fight.

Hopefully Pettis knocks out Josh Thomson and then entertains the Aldo fight. So much respect for Pettis after backing up Chael Sonnen.
