  • Aldo vs. The Korean Zombie is going to be an awesome fight.

  • Hendo might be done. Despite winning, Rashad might be too.

  • GSP vs. Hendricks will headline the 20th Anniversary Show. It will be UFC 100-ish in how major it is.
  • Only two UFC cards this month, but 4 next month!

You forgot to add in that this month I will be stopping your tyrannical reign over our prediction contest.

Chael got married recently. I find it a bit odd he chose to get married in the middle of a training camp for a fight, but he still opened as the betting favorite over Shogun. Man the mighty sure have fallen.

Very excited for the upcoming UFC 162 card. Even though I'll be cheering for Weidman it's still something really special to see Anderson Silva fight. I'll be expecting some crazy new move come fight night from Anderson.

You should know that camps are for children and Chael Sonnen is no child.

Josh Rosenthal got 37 months in Federal Prison for growing pot.

I liked Rosenthal but I feel like this is karmic justice for his allowing Chris Weidman to give Mark Munoz brain damage by letting him eat about 17 unprotected shots.

Also, tonight's episode of UFC Tonight is must watch television. Per Ariel, Chael will be interviewing Anderson Silva.

Speaking of drug charges, didn't Paul Kelly get 12 years in the UK for heroin trafficking?

I thought Rosenthal was the best ref in the biz. If him going to prison is karmic justice, what the hell is Mazzagatti gonna get?

I thought Rosenthal was second best behind Herb. And yeah, Paul Kelly, who to me is best known for looking like a Soccer Hooligan did get some serious time.

Best justice for Mazzagatti would be to get somehow booted in the nuts by a fighter.

Also -- If you want a cool way to kill time, catch out http://www.cagerank.com ... I might be adding it to the OP going forward because it's awesome. Ever want to know who would win between Jon Jones and Anderson Silva? Anderson Silva and GSP? Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva? Lesnar and Fedor? Demetrious Johnson and Bob Sapp?!?!

You can find out on CageRank.

Thiago Alves OUT of UFC on Fox Sports 1, Mike Pyle in vs. Matt Brown.

As someone who spent money on tickets to this card, let me be the first to say:

FUCK.

And I don't think it's a coincidence that this week, 3 foreign born fighters have all gotten "injured". This has to do with the awful State of Massachusetts requiring all fighters, foreign-born or not, to have Social Security Numbers, regardless of the fact that they're the only state in the union that requires this.

No wonder why it took the UFC three years to put on a card here.

At this rate, I'd be willing to bet that Shogun and Overeem also drop out mysteriously with injuries and the replacement fights would look like:

Evans vs. Sonnen
Cormier vs. Browne

I'm still in disbelief that last night happened.

So long superfights, but it was totally worth it to see Silva's reign end like that.

You need to change your prophecy from "becomes" to "became". That shit was wild as hell. I actually have to admit that it hasn't hit me yet that Anderson is no longer the champion and I will likely miss him as the champion, but it was time for a new man on top of the mountain and Chris Weidman is as good as anyone. He could very well dominate the division like Anderson has for a long time.

Brian Stann announced his retirement. I can't say I'm sad to see him go as I always felt he was a solid fighter who was hyped to a much bigger level than he really was, but he was rarely in a boring fight. That last fight with Wanderlei was something else.

Hopefully they keep him around in an analyst role. He doesn't do a bad job in my opinion.

Utmost respect to Brian Stann.

I never fall for the "This guy was in the military so we must respect him" BS, but Brian Stann carried himself with class and dignity and never forced his beliefs and military accomplishments (which were superb) down people's throats.

But what I respect him most for is the way he fought. The guy fought to put on a show. He could have taken Wandy down and laid on him for 15 minutes, but no... he stood in the pocket and banged with that motherfucker and gave us a Fight of the Year Candidate. He was like that for every fight.

I will always respect fighters like that who actually also have skill to back up their balls-to-the-wall brawling style. And Brian Stann was definitely that fighter. It's a shame to see a fighter like him go, but it's also a nice change of pace to see a fighter of his stature go out on such a high note without being forced to.

I did always like the way he was very reserved about his military time. Unlike 90% of the guys in MMA that have a military background, Stann is a legit hero. He had the right to brag about his accomplishments, yet he chose not too. Classy.

I did read that he plans to continue doing broadcast work.

Stann not have been the best but he was one of my favorite fighters. He brought it every time he went in there. He seems like such a great guy on top of it, with all the work he does with Hire Heroes USA. This may sound a bit fruity but I consider Stann to be a hero and I'm glad he has a few things to fall back on. He has a serious future in politics if he decides to go that route.

Out of all the champions - who do you guys think has the biggest chance of losing their title next?

I really don't see any of the current #1 contenders (Dos Santos, Gustafsson, Silva, Hendricks, Grant, Zombie, Wineland, Moraga, Tate (or Zingano for that matter)) unseating the current champions. I really think it might be at least a year before we see a title change.

I agree with you. I was never huge on him because sometimes you get tired of the whole "military down your throat" shit. But he actualy cooled it down the past few years and was a class act.

That Wand fight was unreal. Being a huge Wandy fan, I pretty much have a giant pit in my stomach everytime he fights now(since he's pretty much a solid blow away from being a veggie). I did not expect that outcome. What a shocker. Very enjoyable fight.

Cain won't lose to JDS. I don't see anyone beating him until Jones moves up. Jones will go undefeated at LHW. I don't see Gustaffson having anything for him. Weidman will lose to Silva in a rematch, absolutly no doubt in my mind. Hendricks will get severely outclassed by GSP. I really don't think he will even hit him. If you guys haven't heard, Grant is out of his fight with Bendo and Pettis is in. I see a new champion being crowned in that fight. Aldo won't lose at 145. Cruz will lose to Barao, don't really care about Mighty Mouse. Rousey won't lose for a while. So I guess the next champion to lose will be Bendo if I'm correct

Sorry for the formatting. On my phone. Tough to space shit out

July is really kind of a blah month (The UFC on Fox card to me is a one fight card, especially with Siyar out of his fight against Lawler) but holy shit, August.

Five great cards. Which one are you guys most looking forward to?

8/3 - UFC 163 - Losing Maia/Koscheck hurt this card, but Aldo/TKZ is going to be a great fight (even though I'd have to think Aldo takes it pretty easily), and Machida/Davis will probably look a lot like Machida/Bader, which was a funny fight. Keep an eye on John Lineker. Explosive fighter, extremely fun to watch, and with a win is likely the next Flyweight contender. Ian McCall needs to win his fight on the FX prelims in order to keep his job. Future Light Heavyweight Contender Robert Drysdale debuts on the Facebook prelims. Not really much at the top (Thales Leites vs. Tom Watson replaces Maia vs. Koscheck) but still a good card with a lot of interesting storylines.

8/10 - WSOF 4 - There's a lot to like about this card. Tyrone Spong headlines vs. Some Guy. Marlon Moraes will fight in the co-main. If he was in the UFC, he'd be a Bantamweight Contender. He also has a voice that is basically a mix of GSP and BJ Penn. Nick Newell (one armed fighter) is on the main card. Tyson Griffin fights GZ Cavalcante and Jorge Santiago vs. Gerald Harris is on the prelims.

8/17 - UFC on Fox Sports 1: Shogun vs. Sonnen - This is probably going to be "Card of the Year". Huge main event in Shogun vs. Sonnen. Co-Main features Alistair Overeem vs. Travis Browne. Urijah Faber fights Yuri Alcantara. Those alone are three major fights. Then as you keep going, Matt Brown continues his improbable run vs. Mike Pyle. We get a fight that could have been the TUF 17 Finals in Uriah Hall vs. Josh Samman. Joe Lauzon is going to wreck Michael Johnson. The prelims are going to be absolute fireworks. Brad Pickett vs. Michael McDonald could steal the show and be FOTN. If that fight doesn't do it, then Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway certainly could. Mike Brown comes out of retirement and fights Steven Siler who is quietly putting together a great run in the Featherweight Division and Diego Brandao is also fighting on the card. Cole Miller fights Manny Gamburyan on the Facebook prelims (to continue to show how deep this card is). I'll be going to the card. I'll post pictures and a trip report.

8/28 - UFC on Fox Sports 2 - Condit vs. Kampmann II - The first fight between these two was a classic and the second time around should be a great fight as well. Carlos Condit is one of my favorite fighters with how exciting he is, and Martin Kampmann has only had one bad fight in his UFC career. The co-main brings us Donald Cerrone vs. Rafael Dos Anjos in what should be a great fight and Dos Anjos could be on the verge of a title shot with a win. TUF 17 winner Kelvin Gastellum drops to Welterweight to challenge Paulo Thiago and Sarah Kaufman fights Sara McMann in a major women's bout. Hatsu Hioki fights Darren Elkins, and you have to figure that Hioki could be facing a cut with a loss.

8/31 - UFC 164 - Henderson vs. Pettis II - I feel absolutely bad for TJ Grant, but Holy shit. Their first fight was a Fight of the Year Candidate and would have likely been FOTY if it wasn't for Silva/Sonnen I. Both guys have improved remarkably since then. The first fight was even all the way through until Pettis threw the Showtime Kick, which, remember, did not knock out Henderson. I expect another war between the two, and with how both guys have gotten better since the first fight... I cannot wait to see how it unfolds. Oh, and the rest of the main card is pretty sweet with Josh Barnett making his UFC return in a dream fight vs. Frank Mir. Chad Mendes fights another can, Clay Guida. Erik Koch vs. Dustin Poirier could steal the show. The card kicks off with what should be an extremely funny fight, a heavyweight showdown between Ben Rothwell and Brandon Vera.

Anyone else hear the rumors that Chael's contract is up and he has a pretty lengthy list of demands before resigning? I'm not sure if I believe them or not because I've heard conflicting reports as to when the contract is up. Some have said it is currently up, others say the Shogun fight is the last on the contract.

Michael Bisping is rumored to be taking on Mark Munoz in the main event the next time the UFC heads to England. I hope Munoz beats him pretty badly. I can't stand Bisping. There are guys I dislike, but Bisping is the only guy I honestly can't stand. Plus, if he wasn't English he would never sniff the high profile fights he gets.

Lady Cyborg beat Marloes Coenen for the Invicta featherweight title last night. Why are neither of those two in the UFC? I blame Tito almost entirely for Cyborg not being in. Also, Tito apparently wants to make a comeback.

Chael said in the leadup to the Jones fight that he actually doesn't have a contract with the UFC. I'm sure this is just Chael being Chael. The list of demands were also him just being who he is. He was doing a Q&A and just said 5-6 things for the sake of being funny. Either way, he'll be a fixture in the UFC in the years to come and even post retirement.

Cant see Bisping losing to Munoz. He has extremely good takedown defense and I feel like he's a better fighter overall. If Munoz can't get the fight to the ground, he's in for a long night. Bisping gets big fights because he's a personality as well, and he's serviceable. He'll never be a champ and he's hysterically overpaid, but the fact that he's a personality allows him to get the major fights because he's a dick and basically an American Koscheck personality wise. He stands out.

Coenen is in the Golden Glory camp, and Zuffa doesn't like how they want to get their hands on the checks first before disbursing to the fighters. She can fight at 135 so that's why I assume she won't be in the UFC any time soon. We all know why Cyborg isn't in and might not ever be in.

LOL @ Tito wanting to make a comeback. He'll probably find up in Bellator.

Also: Not sure if we'll keep doing monthly threads, maybe quarterly threads going forward. The interest for these hasn't been as big as it used to be for whatever reason.

I have been a massive Coenen fan for years. She is a fantastic fighter, a beauty, and a class act. It is a damn shame that she may never get to fight and be exposed to the UFC audience, because she could make some waves if given the chance. I wish she would break away from Golden Glory, but like the NWO says "Once you're Golden Glory, brother, you're Golden Glory 4 Life!"

Cyborg also deserves at least one fight in the UFC. A steroid freak or not, she has been one of the faces of WMMA for years. A super fight with Rousey would bring in some big money and exposure for the UFC. She should be subjected to more testing, but give her a preliminary fight and take it one day at a time.

Yeah, the UFC should bring Coenen in and try to work out their differences with Golden Glory. They're going to run out of contenders for Rousey after she gets through Tate and Zingano. Coenen is a name with credentials and she's called out Rousey before. I also believe she's better suited for 135 anyway.

Also, I thought this was funny.

I think War Machine/Jon Koppenhaver is scum but this went way too far.

zLA7ONE.png

Agreed. War Machine isn't a saint but no one should fuck with a guy and tell him he killed his father on the anniversary of said death, or any other day. /b/ i filled with juvenile idiots who only aim at instigating issues and it is a shame they managed to come across an individual who is so easily influenced and drawn into a fight. Hopefully War Machines problems stick to just the internet and no physical harm comes to anyone.

Few things of note.

1.) Nick Diaz was supposed to shoot an hour long interview with Michael Schiavello today. He no-showed, to the surprise of nobody, except Michael Schiavello. Kind of bummed out. Schiavello is pretty horrid as a commentator but "The Voice vs." is a really interesting series of interviews (find the last one he did with Stone Cold), and an hour of Schiavello interviewing Diaz would have been fascinating. Plus, Schiavello doesn't deserve that. Yes, he's grating on commentary but he seems like he's a cool guy overall.

2.) Roy Nelson has apparently re-signed with the UFC and fights Daniel Cormier in the co-main of UFC 166. Good for Big Country, he got destroyed by Stipe Miocic and didn't really take too much of a hit in terms of his stock because nobody saw that fight.

3.) No, literally, nobody saw that fight. Per Kevin Iole, Silva/Weidman did 675,000 buys. Which is really good considering the fact that going into this fight, Weidman was a virtual unknown to casual fans. Evans/Hendo was "not close to 200,000 buys".
