Rumors awhile back claimed that the guest host storyline would be nearing its conclusion following WrestleMania and that a new high profile name would be assuming GM duties. The first name that came to me was Bret Hart granted he made his come back for closure in a storyline leading into WrestleMania. Next to Hart was Stone Cold who could bring order and much needed heat to Monday Nights. When Shawn put his career on the line against The Undertaker, I thought he maybe would leave and return as the new GM, but now I really can't think about anyone better than Bret Hart for the job other than maybe Stephanie. With Shane transitioning into the world of MMA, I doubt he will come back anytime soon if at all. I believe he wasn't even present during the Hall of Fame ceremony and WrestleMania as it was apparently reported. This seems to me like a clear sign of his departure. Stephanie is a likely candidate simply because of her being a past GM and being closely tied to the Triple H and Vince. But maybe she, too, is done with wrestling. She may not have always been a fan in the first place and want to finally break free and do her own thing. Bret Hart on the other hand... well, he has everything going for him to become the new and permanent GM for the time being. Now that Stone Cold's acting career has finally began picking up pace and momentum, I don't think he'd be available for such a permanent job. Maybe a year or two before his next big gigs in Hollywood, but nothing more. Personally, either of the aforementioned personnel would do wonders for the show as permanent GM, but my number one choice would be The Rock who is much more marketable to a PG audience than Stone Cold could ever be, and is much more familiar to the current average audiences than Bret Hart could ever be. Worthy of the GM position, too, are the likes of The Million Dollar Man, Jim Ross, Teddy Long (leaving SmackDown in the hands of Vickie Guerrero or even Tiffany), Roddy Piper, and for kicks, Hornswoggle or Santino. In my opinion, a GM has to be someone around whom the WWE can construct legitimate storylines akin to what was done with Mick Foley and other GM from the past.
