How can you be so sure though? Why would Vince allow Punk to cut such a great promo if he's leaving? The only reason would be so fans become interested and pay to watch the PPV, but all that just for more buyouts? I would like to think this is part of something much bigger. If it's not and he is actually leaving that was one hell of a wasted promo. JMO.

Everyone knows by now that Cena has been working injured. Keeping Cena as an active wrestler can do more harm then good, considering the main event of Mania 28. It could be refreshing have Cena leave for 6-7 months. Maybe people won't hate on him as much if he was to do so. It's not so surreal. Wrestlers used to do it all the time back in the day, why can't they now? It's an easy way to write Cena out of current storylines and make the Punk/McMahon angle the main focus of RAW, and you could milk the hell out of that!

If Punk leaves the WWE he will not be becoming a major star. Sorry but TNA is not big enough to make major stars yet. He could be big in Japan though.
Punk is already a big name. He was champ and has been feuding with some of the top guys. I do think he could be utilized better but it's not like they are totally burying the guy.

It does make since but from a roster standpoint if Cena takes time off who would take the top face spot while he's gone? Mysterio's is the only one that can come close but even then you still have a huge void to fill if Cena is gone.....
I've been watching wrestling for 35 years and CM Punk's promo was in the top 10 if not top 3 that I've seen. (Heyman's shoot before Survivor Series is still #1 and I remember a Bulldog Brower one from 1978 which was gold). Still, what constitutes a major star? Is it some kinf of Rock/Hogan transgression into mainstream media or just a major wrestling star? If it's the former, then no chance - he's too edgy to ever go mainstream. If it's the latter, well he's already won the belt 3 times and still struggles to get over with the general audience. Why? See above. The IWC love him (as do I) but I still think in five years time we'll be talking more about Del Rio, Morrison and Sheamus as the major stars of this generation. And for CM Punk it's a pity.

Ok now lets just say for a split second that this is correct, WWE could very well be ushering in a new "era" and that to me sounds very viable.
In my humble opinion WWE is making subtle changes every week that could ultimately result in what we've all been hoping for.
But saying that it sounds to me that the IWC expect this "new era" to come in overnight which would never work becasue if that happened then we would have the majority of the fans who want a change complaining that they didnt like what they did and how they did it.
So in conclusion there is a chance this could happen but it will take time, and if it does happen it will make WWE programming the one to watch.

Well as someone said before, Cena is working through injury atm, so maybe this could be a good way to give Cena some recoup time. And the man to jump into the face spot? I think Alex Riley should be given a shot. Sure, he's young and inexperienced, but look at the reactions he's been getting recently, and look at his work in the ring. Not too shabby if you ask me.
Now, onto the main point. I'm not so keen on Punk working with McMahon, but I would be very surprised if Punk hasn't signed a deal of some sort. My only reasoning is that I can't imagine WWE allowing that promo unless there was going to be a big payoff. Punk losing and leaving is not a big payoff. I won't say Punk isn't leaving, nor will I say he is, because I think WWE have played this so well so far that it's too hard to call. It could easily go either way. If we are to believe reports, then he hasn't signed, and WWE are still trying to convince him to. But as accurate as inside reports can be, they can also be wrong, and things can change at the last minute. If Punk and McMahon did start some kind of Austin/McMahon relationship, it would be kinda cool, but I wouldn't believe Punk joining up with the boss. then again, who believed Austin would?
Someone on here the other day suggested that WWE might even make an ROH/indie stable out of this. Now, mock all you may, but imagine if WWE decided to go into business with ROH, ala how WWF did with ECW years ago. Remember RVD on Raw? Maybe WWE has seen some talent they like, and they've extended the olive branch. In return, ROH gets money, and maybe they even get some WWE stars from time to time (midcard obviously, though Cena at ROH would be a hilarious paradox). Now, I know this is HIGHLY unlikely, but not impossible, and a stable consisting of Punk, Bourne, Bryan, hell, even Kings of Wrestling (if they do sign) and Seth Rollins/Tyler Black could work if done correctly.
This is all hypothetical, but as I said, possible.

Regardless of it's true or not, the one thing that needs to be said is that organizations have long since passed their boundaries when it comes to confronting so called "bigotry" when people are just using words as slang. I don't hate people who are gay, some are good friends, but even they say that this is bordering on hyper-sensitivity.

I suggested this last week after the promo (esp. when I saw in the spoilers that the stipulation about cena being fired was added).. in one of the 1000 Punk threads.
that mr mcmahon would get involved and cost Cena the match and title which would lead to Mcmahon/Punk shaking hand as Cena gets "fired" and time off. Then it could go a couple of ways
1. Punk hands Vince the title and shakes his hand and we have a new champ on monday night.
2. Punk gets signed before the PPV and while Vince and Punk are in the ring Celebrating after getting rid of Cena HHH music hits and he comes down and confronts Vince for taking the side of Punk after the way he talked about his daughter. This would lead to a Punk/HHH feud and main event at Summerslam.. Offer Punk a long title run and chance to headline the second biggest PPV might get his ego to sign.
If they are going to have Cena win I would like to see Nexus come out and cost Punk the belt and beat him down because "they put their faith in him and he's leaving"

It is really sad that the world has come to this kind of stuff. It is sad that the WWE has to plead for forgiveness to these non profit organizations for stupid mistakes wrestlers have been making. Granted I don't want anybody to think that I am approving the using the world on programming. I think it is a word that is offensive to a lot of people and should be eliminated from our vocabulary.
However with that saying, if you watch CM Punk say the word it was clearly a boneheaded mistake. Organizations like GLADD have to realize that this isn't a overnight fix. CM Punk's mistake is a reflection of a vast majority of Americans. A lot of people grew up saying the word Gay like it meant nothing and once you have it in your vocabulary its tough to erase it. Once in a while, a mistake will happen and it slips out.
Howeer, wrestlers and anybody in the public eye should be role models.CM Punk, if he stays with the company, should be required to do something to make up for his mistake. He already went out and apologized which was apparently done completely by himself and not WWE officials. Until I actually see Punk gone from WWE, I'm not really going to buy into this just yet. If he is actually leaving, I think that most people are hoping that it's just to take some time off. If that's not the case, however, then WWE has really screwed up here. Not only would they lose quite possibly the best overall guy on their roster but they've made him a guaranteed top tier star wherever he goes. As for the statement that was released regarding Punk being legitimately released, well I'm not sure. We live in a world of technicalities these days. It's true Punk's contract might not be renewed. Instead, he might possibly be signed to a contract with provisions, guarantees, more money and perks that weren't in his previous contract with WWE. So, from a technical standpoint, they'd be right in saying his contract wouldn't be renewed.
If Punk really isn't staying with WWE, then you know that TNA is going to be making a serious offer to him. He won't be pulling in nearly as much money in TNA as he would in WWE but I have no doubt that Punk would be shot right to the main event scene. Even with the whole 90 day no compete clause in action, Punk will still be the most talked about wrestler in the world and that would only increase if he did ultimately wind up going to TNA.

Maybe Punk is leaving, maybe he isn't. We will all have to wait and see how everything shakes out at MITB to know for sure. As far as GLAAD goes, I really hate the fact that the WWE has to walk on egg shells because someone might be offended by a promo that a Superstar cuts or a gester that they make. They should have the right to say whatever they want without worrying about some random organization's feelings being hurt.
I have no particular comment to make regarding CM Punk's "homophobic slur". It has been so blown out of proportion and analyzed and dissected to death that it warrants no further discussion. It was an off handed comment made in a manner that most of us make on a daily basis, with no intended homophobia. It's a slang term which is commonly used by many, and people are giving it way too much attention.
Regarding Punk leaving, I'm not buying it for a minute. I dont care what's being reported by what website, it's all storyline. Of course they would tell people elsewhere it's not a storyline, what would you expect them to do, announce a week or so before the PPV that it's all kayfabe?

I will take it one step further. I will believe it when I see that he has signed with another company. Notice the phrasing in the article. It says Punk will not "immediately" renew his contract. Doesn't the inclusion of the word immediately imply that he will return, just not right away? I read that as Punk is taking a breather, but has every intention of returning once he does whatever it is he wants to do. I suspect that this could all be a massive swerve, and Punk has already resigned, but allowing for the possibility that he hasn't, this is like a Jericho thing...take a break, then return.

While I don't think that Punk is in the right, as a person in the public eye in the era where basically anything you say and do can be captured on a phone and placed on the internet in five seconds, I do think that this is being blown out of proportion. "Homo" is an overused insult by a lot of people, particularly of the generation that Punk comes from. Growing up, saying something was "gay" or "queer" basically meant it was lame or undesirable, and has been a commonly accepted thing, without people stopping to comprehend the deeper meaning of what they are saying. Again, I'm not saying it's right, but that's the way I interpret it. If he had said "homo POS" or something like that, or directly called him a "queer" or "******", then I would consider it a major issue and PR nightmare. In a situation like that, I can see WWE actually wanting him gone and without regrets.
Punk gets into arguments with fans, in jest, at house shows all the time. It's supposed to be funny, and he pushes the limits to see how far a mark will go. He invites people to jump the rail and get in the ring, insults them and gets a great reaction (positive from people who know better, obviously). There are great clips on YouTube. Personally, I view it as a slip of the tongue. He immediately realized how it could have been construed and issued an apology of his own volition. I really don't think that this needs to be a snowballing melodrama that plays a major part in his contract negotiations. If that's the case and his future is jeopardized by this, I think it's really sad.
