**MERGED** CM Punk heel turn? (Keep it in here!!!!)

Difference between this year and last - Punk wasn't being an underhanded, cowardly heel. He was being just that last night. Can't be a coward tweener, it doesn't work.

He wasn't booked cowardly though. That's why they held camera shots onto his face longer, to make sure to capture the conflict in his expressions. That's why he sat and contemplated before trying to revive the referee and go for the pin. A cowardly heel would have been smirking in the corner and ready to pounce once the Big Show laid out John Cena. But Punk -- at least not yet -- isn't that type of heel. He still wants to win matches the right way because when he says he's the best in the world, it's because he believes it, and he knows that the only way for everyone else to buy into it is to beat guys fairly.

Punk didn't do anything underhanded to John Cena between the bells. In fact, Punk was obviously reluctant to pin him and put him away. He eventually did it because, well, what else was he going to do? The championship was on the line and if you snooze, you lose. It was after the match, where he didn't help fight Big Show off of Cena, that he behaved "underhandedly" -- and even then, he wasn't. What good reason does Punk have to stop Cena from getting beat down post-match? He's not Cena's buddy. He has no dog in that fight and, as such, has no reason to get involved. Again, his facial expressions and mannerisms conveyed as much. He considered it, but there just wasn't any point, so he didn't.

The place you could argue that Punk was truly cowardly is in taking out The Rock, who he more or less ambushed. But I would argue that even there, nothing about his behavior was cowardly. He came at The Rock when he wasn't expecting it, but he didn't come at him with his back turned. That's a subtle, but key difference. He also hit the GTS very methodically. If he was truly a coward, he would have hit The Rock, snatched up the belt, and high tailed it. He also would have looked over his shoulder after he left the ring. Instead, he paced the ring slowly, hit his move, and walked out. He never looked back because he wasn't afraid of repercussions. Cowards, by nature (especially in wrestling), are squirmy. They get their licks and get the hell out of Dodge, watching out for their own ass along the way. But not Punk. Not last night.

Now, that said, he may go back to being the cowardly, conniving heel. He may lie, cheat, and steal. He may cower away from challenges rather than embrace them. But last night at least, that sure didn't seem like the case.

I agree with Workrate. He wasn't booked cowardly last night. I believe this to be the beginning of a new wrinkle to Punk's character. He still truly believes he's the best in the world, and will continue wrestling as such (i.e. not being the type of heel who needs to constantly cheat to win matches). The key difference will be the way he carries himself in the eyes of the fans. I foresee a return to pipebomb-era Punk, where he speaks what is on the mind and doesn't care who he offends. His in-ring prowess should not be affected by this heel turn. He has plenty to gripe about, and when he reached the boiling point (perhaps Rocky announcing he was given a title shot out of nowhere), and saw an opening to make a statement, he took advantage of the opportunity.

Punk is starting a revolution! He's sick and tired of the rock and cena and represents the voice of the voiceless who are sick of cena/rock being shoved down our throats. I dont see this as a heel turn but as a cena character where some people like him and some hate him. Punk will most likely loose younger fans but i see punk changing their perspectives as he rids the plague of the wwe which is the full time cena and part time rock. Punk deserves to be respected and i hope we dont get the same old shit and another rock/cena borefest. Dont make punk another person to feed to cena, make him much more! A leader for the voice of the voiceless whos voices dont get heard when they smell bullshit or are force fed piles of shit like cena/rock.

I think Workrate nailed it precisely. Punk probably won't be an immediate cowardly heel. His actions were simply out of self-preservation which may make him selfish and a definite heel. A coward, no. I was already embracing the idea that Punk would turn simply because a potential Rock feud was already being built. And when The Rock confirmed on Twitter that he was proceeding with WWE Title plans on RAW 1,000, I already suspected a heel turn. They did that in a nice way that didn't overshadow the event itself and also did a good job for future events. Exactly the way it should be. The WWE Champion in the main events. Not being bumped out of the last match.

The actions of CM Punk at the end of the 1000th raw WWE title match only points to the fact that CM Punk is turning heel. Kind of.

I for one think that WWE has finally realized that Punk was over as a hardcore babyface but not as much as he was during his memorable run last summer.

Hopefully they make him "interesting" again and turn him into the rude talking, controversial, ass kicking machine we saw before.

It is possible for him to be booked as a "heel" but also be treated by the fans as a face. This was the case last night with Chris Jericho. Lately, he has shown slight signs of a face turn but he is still a sarcastic jackass.

One can only hope WWE takes advantage of this and gives us some more great TV with CM punks newly rejuvenated character but the question is How do you book Punk for summerslam? How do you book him long term? Does he face the Rock anytime soon and if so when?

I think the whole turn was terrible just like I think booking the rock to go for the title at RR is terrible. I'd rather have Lesnar win the title at SS or RR, then The Rock wins at EC(an event he's never been in), then face lesnar at WM.

But what will the heel turn lead to Punk doing? I couldn't tell you other than seeing him and DB do something. Or if there's another turn in store as well :).

being a avid Punk fan idc if he's heel or face. He's entertaining and this change was perfect. They built it over a single show. Something they cant do that well. It usually takes weeks to build a successful heel/face turn. Lately when we been hinted at with alignment changes they didnt happen, or just werent likely to happen. They just said fuck it heres the turn, surprise bitches. I liked it.

Question i pose to you all: What would you have Punk do first next week on RAW?

- Attack Cena?
- Straight up explain his actions
- Pipebomb riddled promo about "The Rock'
- Debut a new WWE title belt already?
- Critisize himself for becoming what he hated.

I, personally, would Pipebomb "Dwayne", Rage on Cena for taking the main event spotlight for the past year and promise to follow through on last years promise and debut a new title belt next week.

I didn't expect Punk to turn heel that way. I liked it, he's a way better heel, he never should of turned face. attacking Rock was the best way and a good way to set up a future match between the two.

I think CM Punk is gonna do another shoot next week on The Rock and maybe on the whole WWE. If he becomes the rebelious tweener like he was last summer and cut great promos it should be one wild f'n summer. Punk posted that on twitter awhile back and I think it is too gonna be a wild summer/fall. I think we will be witnessing The Summer Of Punk II.

Punk a tweener or a heel i hope he gets to main event atleast once w/o Cena involvement and the only way that is possible now is to have him go against Rock.
I like Punk no matter of his character, his promos has that something that keeps me interested in him.
Punk is still No.2 he got to Rock (hope he gets him @ RR) only after John Cena. Cena however stole Johnny from Punk which should have been Punk. WWE saw that Punk made him so hot that they thought he should fight only with Top face Cena and not Punk.
Punk's reign however should continue i want feud with Orton. If Punk is heel i cant see him go against Big Show one on one unless Cena gets involved.
Overall Punk's turn was what i kinda expected as they wont turn Cena

If Punk is going to turn away from his babyface mode right now, he cannot, and I absolutely mean CANNOT go full-on heel like he was before New Nexus. He has to go back too the Summer 2011, tweener, IDGAF Punk. Booking him as a cowardly heel would be horrible not only for the product, but for the business. Punk was at his hottest in his tweener days, and if you turn him back to that, he can still rake in the No. 2 face revenue he was getting, since the crowd cheers for & supports whoever they want nowadays. Besides, the execution was so perfect that Punk can justifiably remain a face, and be the Cena role in his feud with the Rock.

At first, I was iffy about the supposed 'shock value' turn considering the heels are crowding the scene in WWE, but can you imagine the pipebombs, insults and verbal smackdowns Punk and the Rock would have? Pure GOLD, better than Rock/Cena even. Hell, they don't even have to have a freakin match: give them both a mic, send them to the ring without a script and let's hear them go off!

I will give WWE credit though: If Punk is champion at RR, I guarantee I will buy the 2013 Royal Rumble PPV.

Same here. I'm not sure if Punk is a full blown heel, but I think he needs to be tweener/semi heel since he was like that between MiTB and SSlam 2011. Fans loved it. If Royal Rumble 2012 is Punk vs Rock, I'm definitely buying it since its a match between the most beloved superstar of all time vs the wrestler that isn't afraid to speak his mind (kaybabe and legit).

Monday afternoon??

Last tweet from him was the "two men enter, one man walks out..."

I guess they are really selling the turn on the "WWE Universe"

Or you know, they're keeping him quiet until next weeks Raw. Because the less he says between now and then the more the anticipation builds and the more people will tune in to listen to him, considering chances are he'll either open the show with a promo or they'll promote him speaking later on in the night.

Or, you know, what you said.

The fact is, most people are simply looking at this as Punk attacking The Rock. One face attacking another doesn't make them a heel.Rather, Punk turned heel when he capitalized on Big Show's assault, he didn't assist Cena, and solidified it by stopping the Rock from saving Cena.

Exactly. And they made a point of having Rock help Cena, to further the Punk heel angle.

If Rock came down to the ring and assaulted Cena, then Punk attacked Rock, would anyone think Punk was heel?

Oh but of course he has decided to stop talking to the marks. I like it so much more. I will be the first person to be a CM Punk hater. But if he has the balls to slap the biggest mark The rock. I am all for CM punk. Rock can take his punk ass back to the movies and stop pretending like he gives two shits about the fans.

CM punk welcome back to the unoriginal mid card punk ass you always were meant to be. Well except now you have the title...but not for long.

This is the beginning of the end of CM Punk.

I tend to agree with Dragon Saga that he is keeping quiet to build for Monday's Raw. I am sure everyone is anxious to hear what he has to say, and WWE is going to make sure he doesn't say anything until he is on tv.

This coming from an ADR fan, who isn't ever going to make it as a main eventer. Yet the COMPANY has enough trust to back him in making him the longest WWE Champion since Cena's '06 reign. Not to also mention the next Superstar to grace the cover of their video game, WWE '13. But oh no, CM Punk is heading back down to mid-card. Doubtful.

He more than likely was told to stay out of the social media until next week, where I imagine he's going to let the WWE Universe know why he did what he did. I'm hoping we see Cena vs Rock at the Rumble, and Punk vs Rock at Mania. Just seems better then Cena vs Rock 2 years in a row for the Mania main event.

I don't think it's a heel turn... I think he just has a problem with the Rock - like he's admiited since he first dropped the "pipe bomb". Remember? He said that the rock in the main event at mania makes him sick. So I think they'll keep him neutral... and I think its awesome! Very "stone cold-ish"

Why is it that when The Rock comes out to the ring and gives someone a rock bottom, he is just sending them a message....and when Cena comes out and gives someone an AA, it's just sending them a message....or when Randy Orton comes out and RKO's someone, he is simply sending a message....say Jericho comes out and gives someone a codebreaker, he is only sending that guy a message and all of you marks stay behind the wrestler, however when Punk gives Rock a GTS and lets Cena get beat down you are so fast to turn on him and cry foul and say that he has turned heel.

I mean seriously, all Punk did was show Cena(as HHH and Vince have preached 1000 times) "No one person is bigger than the WWE", and the rock got a taste of what he dishes out to his future opponets. So many of you are Cena haters and speak out on here daily that you can't wait til Cena is put in his place, but when that happens, you turn on the person who allowed that to happen and all of a sudden Cena is your "God" and Punk is a traitor. Punk gave these 2 a taste of their own medicine, something they have done numerous times to others and that is all this is. And on a more personal note, I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo very happy that someone FINALLY!!!!!!! shut up The Rocks' monkey pie eating ass up!

Kudos to CM Punk for stepping up and making sure that for once he was noticed. CM Punk did not turn his back on the WWE Universe. he stood up and made a statement. The WWE universe is turning it's back on CM Punk.

Because Jerry Lawler told us he was lol That's the only reason he is a heel now because WWE had Jerry tell the world CM Punk has turned his back on the WWE Universe.

1) There is a thread for any CM Punk heel turn related discussion.

2) When Jerry Lawler states something such as "CM Punk has turned on WWE Universe here," when Vince McMahon is the guy feeding him lines they are detailing the story, adding color, and you take into account that Punk not only gave The Rock a GTS but didn't acknowledge the fans thereby giving them the proverbial cold shoulder, left silently, attacked a face who was defending another face from the attack of a heel; basically everything Punk did in the final ten minutes of Raw, you got a heel turn. You don't see it then you either haven't got a clue or you need to learn a thing or two about wrestling.

The question i want an answer to now is what is the Rock going to say about Punk's suprising attack on him. Maybe the Rock will appear again on the next Raw or maybe he will keep quiet till his return again somewhere near the Royal Rumble. WWE certainly did a good job here with keeping the fans guessing as to what Punk and The Rock will say, I'm also interested what Cena is going to do aswell.
