Jericho VS Edge - World Heavyweight Championship

From an in-ring standpoint this match should be a cracker, it could even take match of the night honours if they're given enough time.

I'd love to see Jericho retain the belt as I think he deserves more than a month long reign, and Edge really doesn't need another World title on his CV at the moment.

Plus Jericho should get the win if only for his involvement in that debacle with Mickey Rourke at last year's Wrestlemania.

I don't know if people are actually still intrested in this. It's two months since Edge won the Royal Rumble and I'm almost certain it's two months since people were last intrested in Edge. There's been nothing in this feud so far that would make you want to see it other than it being Edge vs. Jericho for the first time...in ages. All I can recall about the feud is Edge shouting, in a cringe-worthy manner, ''Spear, Spear, Spear'', over and over again. As well as several very poor matches from Edge, I suspect he's still concerned about injuring himself again.

To me, the most exciting aspect of this match is Drew McIntyre, and he's one of the most boring guys on the roster, oh and he's not even involved in the match. I'll be watcing it in anticipation of him coming out and cashing in on Edge after he's won the title. The surprise cash in has been done to death, cashing in at Mania hasn't been done yet and it just isn't realistic waiting for a whole year, Edge being on the receiving of what he's done numerous times would be a great little story and it could be the one thing that could make McIntyre into a star. Because face it, he hasn't got the personality to make it without any short cuts.

I can only see Edge winning this match, his momentum from Royal Rumble to this weekend, it would be silly not to have him win. That being said:

I would LOVE Jericho to win this match, pretty much every title reign he has had has been as a transitional champion, and I would like to see him hold onto the belt longer than one month.

Either way we are in for a very good match that has pretty much had nine months worth of build up.

This should be a decent match. The promos and buildup leading up to it have been good, especially when Edge and Jericho were guests on each other's show segments. I don't see Jericho retaining. Edge winning would get him more over as a face and bring back some more prestige to the Rumble. The last Royal Rumble to win their Wrestlemania match was Taker in 2007, it's been long enough and Edge winning would make winning the Rumble seem more important again. Plus if he wins by hitting a SPEAR then it can help his SPEAR chants catch on even more, and the SPEAR thing might be what he needs in order to remain over without having to be a face version of "The Ultimate Opportunist". I think the match itself will be one of the better matches of the night because Edge and Jericho are both capable of putting on great matches, let alone facing each other in one.

DAGGER'S PREDICTION
Edge will win the World Heavyweight Championship.

I know it may be kind of dumb, but I really think the "spear" chants have given that move credibility it lacked. Edge's spear has been kicked out of more than wet paper bags and it has always looked weak. Now, simply by starting a chant, the spear feels more powerful than ever before.

I've really hated the build to this match besides those chants. Edge has dominated and Jericho, the champ, and been made to look fairly weak. It could not be more obvious that Edge will win here. The match will be good as both Jericho and Edge are very good, but the terrible build will hurt the aura of the match.

This match has suffered because the break down of the tag team never really got off the ground and they instead went with this spear idea. It's not very good to be honest, but these two have been good enough on the mic to deal with it, and Jericho is starting to show a cshred of personality again, which is good. The match itself will be good, so long as Edge is fit enough to take it to the 20 odd minutes that it deserves. I expect Edge to go over, taking his title reigns into double figures, and leading to a feud that goes on another PPV.

Brilliant match as expected, was a bit slow for too long but overall terrific, helped the show in terms of quality of wrestling

The way he won it was a bit upsetting, but I can't express how happy I am that Edge got beat. Jericho repp'n.

As the others are saying, the build-up was pretty awful. On paper the match looks brilliant but I can't help but feel it was not as hyped up as it could've been. 'Spear, spear, spear!' god that was annoying.. Another reason I would've loved to see Y2J win it. I understand that yeah, Edge came back from 7 months out and won the Royal Rumble (Cena'o8?) and he had to make a huge pop. To do that, they had him spear the hell out of Jericho week after week while the crowd chanted 'Spear, spear, spear). Now Jericho looked like a total pushover that could only stop Edge by hitting him with the title belt. Bad move WWE.

All I know is that I'm happy we still have that arrogant SOB as the champ.

I knew Jericho would win, this way he doesn't look pathetic and the feud continues, however I did not think he would win fairly, that was a surprise, but oh well now the fued continues until at least Extreme Rules in April. Good match, lots of intensity and the spear off the tables through the barricade was sick.

Jericho did hit Edge with the Belt. But yeah regardless Y2J winning and the way he did was the right move. First using the belt establishes his heel role while looking strong in this match. Notice that 75% of this match was Jericho dominating; and sets up a potential long term rivalry down the line.

I thought this was a good match. but i felt it started kind of slow. It was apparent with 10 matches in the card Jericho/Edge was not getting 20 mins (heck only HBK/Taker got that long). They needed to explode early on, so it was strange how slow it started. But good match and it concluded quite well.

Really good match between these two, just as I was expecting. I was a bit shocked that Jericho retained, but I suppose it does make sense in the long run for both Jericho and Edge's characters. I loved seeing Edge pull out the impaler DDT, haven't seen that in awhile and I still to this day think that should be his finisher, not the spear. Some great back and forth action and reversals towards the end, this was probably the match of the night at that point (until of course the main event happened).

This was a pretty good match, though not as good as I feel it could've been, given the superstars involved.

I don't know, for some reason I couldn't get into this match for the first chunk of it. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't very interesting, and I love both of these guys. However, towards the second half of the match, it really picked up with all the counters and near falls.

What made this match for me is that Jericho FINALLY got that big Wrestlemania win that's eluded him his whole career. Jericho wins due to shenanigans, which is good since the feud can continue and hopefully get better since the build up for this match was rather lackluster (if I hear the word "spear" one more time...) However, that...ugh...SPEAR through the barricade was pretty cool.

So yeah, a good match, but just felt like there was something missing.

It started out a little slow with the rest holds, but it ended great leaving the door open for the next chapter of the feud. It was great to see Jericho win a main event at Wrestle Mania. Edge did a great job considering he isn't 100% yet. It wasn't anything spectacular but it was good and better then any triple threat main event Mania garbage we have seen for years.

You know, my dad picked up on that when we were watching, the slowness at the beginning. I guess I need to look deeper more often.

You know, this match proves my theory, once again, that Edge is the winner of any match EVER. (Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania I? Edge. Angle vs. AJ? Edge. Squirrel Girl vs. Squirrel Girl? The universe implodes. And then Squirrel GirlEdge wins.) The scorecard may say that Jericho won, but if you look at the end result, I think Edge is the clear winner.

Expected Jericho to retain so his title reign made some sense and to possibly keep the feud going on. It was nice to see the Royal Rumble winner streak end. It's been like 6 or 7 years in a row now that the Rumble winner went on to win Wrestle Mania, so that was good to see that change. The match seemed like it started slow at first, but it seemed more like a chess match at first and then boom! Things started happening and the finish was nice. The Code Breaker as Edge was running for the Spear was good to see.

Looking forward to what happens now with this feud. It was a solid match and looks like it could go far over on SmackDown.

I was not expecting Jericho to retain at all but I gues they are keeping this one going for a while. I loved the ending after the match that was superb really excitibg stuff, the match was good too. I can see a rematch at Extreme Rules.

Really enjoyed this match. Great back and forth contest that told a good story. Jericho breaking out the Half Boston Crab was great and I genuinely thought Edge might tap. As others have already mentioned, the counter of the spear into the Codebreaker was excellent and meshed well with the build-up. It certainly made Jericho seem like he had been doing his "homework" on Edge's offense.

Happy to see Jericho get his big Mania victory and retain the WHC.

The slightly less than clean finish and the post-match shenanigans means that a rematch is almost certain, which is no bad thing.

Quite possibly the second best match of the night after HBK/Taker II, just simply breathtaking and excellent, it was great use of technical skill and showed why these two are considered some of the best today. The counters to the spear were excellent, I think not many expected to see Jericho retain, but this was a match that I knew would be excellent regardless of who won and I was right there. Think what came as the biggest suprise was Jericho's Codebreaker out of nowhere, that was the second quick surprise finish of the night after Triple H/Sheamus. Great match and looking forward to their rematch, given it's Extreme Rules, money has to be on a Ladder/TLC match.

It was nice to see the Royal Rumble winner streak end. It's been like 6 or 7 years in a row now that the Rumble winner went on to win Wrestle Mania, so that was good to see that change. /QUOTE]

:headscratch::headscratch:
Actually we have just the opposite streak going now. Orton did not win the title last year and Cena did not win at WM24. So this makes it three years in a row that the rumble winner did not win the title at mania.

Anyway, I thought this match was good, but could have been better. I have high expectations out of these two. This should have been a little more fast paced toward the end. Just a little extra would have helped. For example Edge should have hit the spear during the match. He could have gotten a two count and Jericho could barely get his foot on the rope. The ref could have even counted three before waving it off realizing Jericho had his foot on the rope. That would have really gotten the crowd up.

I don't want to be a complainer, but just a little more could have gone a long way. To be fair I watched this with a room full of people and didn't give this my full attention. I'll watch it again later by myself to give it a more fair chance.

World Heavyweight Championship

Huge fight. It was expected that these two give us a great fight and it was so. Despite the atmosphere of the public who did not favor was a very big fight. Began here the main events of the night and a great way for the title. I love the victory of Chris Jericho and the fans to be pleased a huge Spear from Edge on Jericho.
Duration of combat: 16 min
Rating: 9 / 10

Second best match of the night,I didnt believe it that Jericho won but I am glad because he needs to be more than the transitional champion and this win gave him credibility.I was expecting(like some guys on the forum ) that Swagger cash in after that spear but I guess we will probably wait at least another PPV for that to happen

Another very good match. Edge and Jericho definitely put on one hell of a show last night. For a guy who was on the shelf for a long time, Edge did pretty good in a Wrestlemania title match. I had high expectations for this match, and I wasn't disappointed. Although, I must say I was kind of shocked Edge didn't win this one. After all the build after his return with the Rumble win, and the face turn, I thought it would be a lock Edge came away with a victory here, so WWE could complete the touching comeback story. Still, I think Edge will win the title soon enough. This is also another feud I want to see continue because I definitely want to see more wrestling matches from Chris Jericho and Edge.

Edge will win the World Heavyweight Championship.

Yeah, so I got the results wrong on this one.... but what a match it was! Many of us knew the potential that Jericho and Edge could have in the ring and they certainly lived up to it. Jericho and Edge both did a fantastic job because this match exceeded all my expectations for it! I'd say it was the second best match of the night. Even though Edge lost, that awesome spear by Edge off the announcer tables made up for it! The crowd went insane for it, and so did the 7 of us watching at my friend's place!

I give this match a rating of 8 out of 9.

I was happy to see Jericho retain. WWE has been so predictable and almost everyone predicted Edge to win.

Hopefully the WWE can keep us on our toes and make their product more enjoyable by keeping us surprised.

This match was pretty decent, I could say that i was going for Edge on this one. Overall this match had a lot of ups and downs, but they gave as a decent match. I don't understand why this match wasn't given to Edge, But at last Edge got his revenge with a pretty damn good spear.

I'll give it a rating of 7/10
