Time to leave the Tower of Bab-il. Unfortunately we say goodbye to another party member during the process. Their replacement, who also happens to be your fourth permanent party member, soon joins though.
After defeating the doctor you get a Tower Key. Take this back to the long stairway and unlock the door. Unequip Yang before going inside, this is his last battle in your party. Inside are some monsters who are about to shoot the dwarves. The party attacks them before they can use their Super Cannon.
BATTLE: Dark Imp (3)
PARTY: Cecil, Yang, Kain, Rosa, Rydia
DIFFICULTY: Very Easy
This is the easiest boss in the game, if it can even be called a boss. Dark Imps have been random encounters during your entire time underground. If you somehow lose during this fight, something is very wrong. The ironic thing is Yang's first fight was against Imp Captains, so his last fight is against a very similar enemy. I like to have everyone else defend and let Yang fight his last fight with us earning the victory all by himself.
Yang kicks everyone else out of the room once you defeat the imps. He tries to destroy the cannon and the party thinks he is dead. Don't worry, he comes back in a non-playable role later. Unfortunately he will never be playable again unless you are playing the GBA version. The climb down to the first floor gets a little tougher without Yang. Hopefully you kept his claws. Yang's replacement can use them and they come in handy during a boss fight later on. On the first floor Golbez destroys the stairway and you fall out, but Cid flies in to save you on his airship. An enemy airship follows you, although Cid is able to lose them by jumping out and detonating a bomb to close the hole you used to reach the underground. He had told you to go to Baron, do so.
In Baron you'll need to speak to Cid's mechanics. To reach them go right in the main hall and follow the path outdoors, they are wearing blue. They attatch a hook to the airship. Now go fly to My Hobs to pick up the Hovercraft. Literally. You can use the hook to fly it to Eblan. That is your next destination although the game really never tells you. Eblan is south of Toroia. You can enter the castle which is optional, but I recommend you wait until you have your next party member. He will need the experience you get from going there anyway. Fly on the shallows to the Eblan Cave.
CAVE OF EBLAN
Party: Cecil, Kain, Rosa, Rydia
You get your fourth permanent party member here and the path to reach him is actually very straightforward. Ignore the chests and any exploration for now. He joins on a low level so he desperately needs the experience you gain from fully exploring this place. I'll skip up to where he joins and then we will do the full exploration. You'll find a ninja fighting Rubicant of fire, he loses.
BATTLE: Rubicant
PARTY: Edge
DIFFICULTY: N/a
Edge loses this no matter what you do, it is scripted. Look how low his HP count is. He joins on a really low level....
Meet your new party member, Edge. Rosa heals him and he hits on Rydia before joining. The two like each other. He will be in your party for the rest of the game.
PERMANENT PARTY MEMBER 4 of 5: Edge
CHARACTER CLASS: Ninja
WEAPON OF CHOICE: Katana, Boomerang, Shuriken (Thrown only)
COMMANDS: Fight, Dart, Sneak, Ninja, Item
Edge is an awesome character. He is the second best fighter type losing only to Kain in usefulness. Edge can throw items at the enemy. You lose a thrown item forever. I guess the game wants you to think it shatters once thrown, or something. Shurikens and Ninja Stars can be thrown and are only useable this way but do a ton of damage. He can also steal using the Sneak command but it is almost 100% useless, I never bother with it. Edge has some Ninja magic exclusive to him. It's weaker than Rydia's, but can be useful sometimes. He is a good attacker. Edge can attack from the rear row using Boomerangs or in the front line with Katanas. He has awful defense for a fighter but his offensive capabilities make up for that. Rosa will be busy healing him for the remainder of the game, but he's worth it. Edge also has the coolest graphic out of anyone in the game.
As I already stated a couple of times, Edge joins on a very low level if you have been following my advice on when to level up. He has a TON of catching up to do. Out of all of the leveling sprees I go on in this game, this is probably the one that takes the longest. It would benefit you to catch Edge up, otherwise he does not stand much of a chance at staying alive in the next event. I recommend exploring the Eblan Cave as well as Eblan's castle. There's a Namingway in the "town" area of the cave, or you can just fly to any previous town after casting Exit to get out of here. You'll want to do that so you can go back in and explore the cave from the start, unless you already did that without Edge.
Next time we will explore the rest of this cave as well as Eblan's castle.
